Liberal Alphin Natasha Burkavik was killed this morning by a KGB sniper on orders from agency director Fiquil Alano, who formally assumed control of Mirfak just minutes after the incident. Alano cited his predecessor's blatant infringement on the rights of business and economy-harming worker protection reforms. "Burkavik's reign of taxation and socialist ideals is over," he announced triumphantly at the convention. The socially conservative Alano is expected to repeal many of Burkavik's reforms, including freedom of speech doctrines and social programs. The power transfer has not gone off smoothly however, as rebellions in several districts broke out after news of the assassination reached them. Many worker-dominated regions revolted and overwhelmed KGB forces in the afternoon, and the day ended with uneasy standoffs between the government and rebels, as well as a declaration of martial law by the Alphin.

T.U.B.A (Turkimen United Broadcasters Association) reports this on their international section of the news:

Reporter: In other news tonight, word has come from Mirfak... A slavic nation run by a liberal majority... recently went through hard times including an assassination of their major government head. The current substitute for head of state now, also the head of Parliament and the uncle of our majesty Frederian, has put a small detachment of military commandos on stand-by and has alerted a foreign diplomat to go and speak with the new leader of Mirfak on if we could help out the international community. Also, small pro-republican rallies have popped up all over Turkimen, advocating a return to the old democratic system, and an abolishment of both the Parliament and the King. These apparently were started by the news of Mirfaks governmental shifts, and thus the royal guard is doubling its duties for a while. More on this as it happens, here on T.U.B.A.

Alphin Fiquil Alano ordered the military to begin bombing of rebel strongholds early this morning, ending the standoff that continued through last night. In response, several of the rebel factions began moving out and tried to overpower KGB agents at government and communications facilities, but were repelled. The bombing has raised a public outcry from all three classes, alarmed at the first use of explosives against civilian targets on Mirfakan soil since the unification. Though military units are on the streets, the KGB has thus far retained control of the anti-rebel operations and general policing of Mirfak. Excessive force disrupting both business and personal lives across Mirfak however has begun to prompt open protests from workers and business owners alike. Fiquil Alano has ordered the Labule to initiate a blockade of the planet until order can be restored, but with opposition from all sides the KGB is his primary support at this point. So far there have been no additional rebel uprisings, but bombing and street conflicts continue across the nation.
