Over Mars the cameras watched carefully. It had been almost a decade, finally the opening was found. A small patch of land, it was all that was needed.

It was a small red spot but to the commanders of the Fifth Colonization Fleet it was a gold mine. They had been in orbit around various planets for too long and they would finally have a home.

The fleet admiral gave the order and the ten ships headed at the planets surface. Soon the small red marble turned into an enormous red landscape.

The settlers, mainly military and science personel, left the ships and began a settlement. Thanks to Largent's great construction skills they had a small town set up within a week.

They had scouts out looking for other cities using satelite printouts from the platform. As soon as they had everything set up they planned to discuss their presence on the planet if it were to be proved necissary. It most likely would.

Two Weeks Later

It was official, New Winchia had been established and was a fully functional city. This city would probably be the only one in the new colony but there would certainly be towns outside it once civilians were given the okay to make the move to Mars. It was a small acheivement but it was an important one.

On the other side of the Red Planet, the Toothpickian people of Traxch Meaz watch carefully as their new neighbors set foot on the planet they had long called home. Startled by the militant appearance of the first visitors, the defenses of the growing empire were immediately activated. As the cloaking systems and shield systems came on line, technology that had not been needed for decades was beginning to break. Realizing the stress that these defenses would put on the system, all off-planet personal were issued an immediate recall to the home colony.

Hesitantly, the decision was made to attempt peace with our new neighbors. At that decision, a broadcast of universal Morse code was immediately issued across all frequencies, stating in all known languages:

"Welcome to Mars, please explain your presence."

Cyrnal Yste Command Dome, Commonality Colonial Mars Space

"It's definitely new," the Elf was saying softly. He was laidback, very quiet, relaxed. This was called the Command Dome, but it was really just a comfortable room with a view. There was no commanding done here. It was a restricted area, though.

Aglar chewed his lip for a moment, thoughtfully; he was more relaxed these days, now that the Colony was well-established and, for the most part, self-sufficient. The last couple of months had been exceedingly hectic; now the population - a mere five thousand persons - had all but moved in comfortably. "Who are they?"

"No clue as yet. I've sent a request back to Earth; hopefully we'll get a reply as fast as lag allows. Depends on the workload."

Aglar sighed. The lagtime was most irritating; but unavoidable. Annoyingly so.

"Okay."

Sorry, been busy. Ma-Tek, did your message to Earth come to me? Traxch Meaz, we handled that oocly

New Winchia

The city was growing exponentially and was also beggining to obtain countless underground facilities. It was hoped that within a few months, possibly an Earth year, the colony would be fully independent from the main government.

Defenses were close to being fully operational, however, the Crimmond conflict had put a dent in the amount of forces Largent could commit to Mars. Still, it wasn't a major concern at the moment.

It was nearly six months since the first landing and they already had diplomatic matters to deal with. A neighboring nation was located upon an intercepted transmission. It appeared to originate in Ma-tek and the government was preparing a diplomatic invitation:

To: Martian Ma-tek Government

Greetings from the Largentian colony on Mars. It has come to our attention that you are aware of our recent presence on Mars. Having few or no allies on the red planet we would very much appreciate a diplomatic meeting of some sort to form some friendly relations between our two nations.
