Omni-Psychotia Announces Self Belatedly

Omni-Psychotia

OCC: Hello there, friends. Sorry I didn't do this sooner, but I'm fairly new to the game. Therefore, I present to you Omni-Psychotia:

IC: Omni-Psychotia was a small, scoially progressive island nation for many hundreds of years. Social welfare among it's isolated population in the deep South Pacific had an early birth in Omni-Psychotian society, and as such the populous of Omni-Psychotia is fiercly patriotic and believe themselves to be superior to all creation.

After developing a near utopian society, Omni-Psychotia turned it's eyes outward. After a long and bloody war with nearby Morieth, Omni-Psychotia declaired itself an empire and has since been itching to bring more land under its rule.

The leader of Omni-Psychotia is Lord Psy Peterson, who is revered by the public as a truely benevolent ruler. However, Lord Peterson's compassion comes in hand with a severly bigoted outlook of the outside world.

Omni-Psychotians are reputedly xenophobic and view themselves as an almost master race, and these traditional ideas were passed on to everyone, including Lord Peterson. However, Omni-Psychotian are usually peace loving and more pity other nations rather then hate them.

Of course these things lead to problems with international relations, so Omni-Psychotia prefers to take an isolationist attitude.

Omni-Psychotia's millitary is comprised of a mercenary coporation called OPM that is funded by the government. The mercenaries are extreamly well trained and are some of the best in the world, but due to a small population and weak economy had outdated equipment and small numbers.

OCC: Well that's all for now, later folks.

"Uh... I don't know about this Omni-Psychotia state." Satago Mrushi of the Serpent Country Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, dropping an intelligence profile on the aforementioned country to the desk. "Did you read the translation of their national anthem?"

"Oh come on, they can't be that bad. The UN classified them as a Left-Leaning College State, that's a category adjacent to us." Circling Jade assured her subordinate, while shuffling a deck of cards. Across the table from her, three other members of the Ministry of Foreign affairs were waiting for their hand to be dealt. They looked like stereotypical Serpentians; brown skin, blonde haired, and with creepy green eyes. In theory they were probably supposed to be working.

"You can't always go by the UN Categories!" Mrushi objected.

"Oh, just give them a chance!" Circling Jade advised, rapidly spinning out cards. "What will it hurt to send them the customary fruit basket?"

Mrushi sighed. Her boss did have a point, even if she was a lazy, do-nothing who spent half of her working hours playing poker. His job was to open diplomatic relations with other countries, or at least to fill out the required paperwork. But the Empire of Omni-Psychotia seemed like an awfully strange place to send a diplomatic airship, particularly on account of the distance.

Nonetheless, he unfolded the 99 Mhz UNIX laptop on his desk and preceeded to type up a typically friendly diplomatic greeting, which would be translated by someone with more linguistic talent than him.

"The Protectorate of Serpent Country extends peaceful greetings to the Empire of Omni-Psychotia. May we both prosper well in peace and harmony, and benefit in mutual exchange.

Enclosed is an attached pineapple basket in a cozy pink towel, as a gift to your government. Also attached is a plush-toy plumed serpent, the national animal of Serpent Country. This plush-toy represents the good will and peaceful intentions of Serpent Country."

And the fact that we have teeth. Mrushi thought to himself. But he didn't write that down. The toy only had plush-teeth anyway.

"With the permission of your leadership, we request that a small expedition from the Serpent Country Geographic Society be allowed to visit your country, so that we may learn more about you. Should you have a similar desire, we would be more than happy to provide transport for an equivalent team back to our Home Islands."

Mrushi paused for a second. That would probably do. While his co-workers were losing their hard-earned yakas behind him, he sent the message onward, then furrowed his brow to read the next diplomatic report.

"Hmmm" The Official Historian murmurred, mostly to himself as he noted that yet another new nation was stepping into the wider world. Perhaps he should mention something to the Lady of Cats Keep. Cats Keep was, currently at least, located on the island of Texas.

"I bet IADA would want to keep an eye on them, they seem to be the expanionist sort" He smiled as he mentioned Cats Keep secretive, highly efficient intelligence agency aloud...even if he was the only one about to over hear him. He knew more about the inner workings of Cats Keep than his boss thought he did. He wasn't about to disabuse her of her notions. He liked his job and his boss.

The flap cat sleeping obliviously on the sun drenched window ledge, never twitched a whisker...but let his boss know what had been said...

Lord Peterson looked at the diplomatic message on his monitor with thinly veiled disgust.

"Allow foriegners into our country for a 'geographic survey'? Hmmm...Patty, what do you think?"

Patty O'Furniture, president of OPM, furrowed his brow and thought hard, "Well they seem to be peaceful, and they have a pretty socially responsable government for primatives. I think we should be fine...as long as they have escorts and 24 hour surveilance."

"Silky?" Lord Peterson turned to his foriegn affairs advisor, Silky MacFistycuff.

Silky didn't ever have much work to do, considering foriegn policy in Omni-Psychotia cosisted mainly of "Don't talk to us, we're better than you."

"I think it might be a good idea. We're still weak from overtaking Morieth and we would certainly benifit from friendly relations with at least one other country..."

"Fine," Lord Peterson sighed; he hated foriegners, "Send message that we will allow them access to our fine land, with these conditions: they will not be allowed near ANY OPM or Omni-Corp building, they will have a 24 hour escort from the time they arrive and the time they leave, AND we will take them up on their offer to allow our agents to do a similar survey of them."

"Very good, sir." With that Silky MacFistycuff went to send a message...

The Serpent Country diplomatic airship Blunderbuss cruised above the choppy waters, the rising sun giving an orange tint to the blue and yellow flag slathered on its hull.

Only a soft drone from the vehicle's twin turboprop engines penetrated into the small passenger compartment, which was crammed full of food boxes, camera equipment, and six passengers cleaning up the remains of breakfast. Reaching a far-off nation like Omni-Psychotia required a rather substantially sized fuel-cell, as a result the quality of accomodations aboard the Blunderbuss were somewhat reduced compared with the rest of Serpent Country's diplomatic fleet.

Repentant Badger, representative of the Serpent Country Ministry of Foreign Affairs carefully applied her face paint. Using a tiny mirror for precisionshe added a black spiral with golden wings to her forehead, and streaks of yellow and blue to her auburn cheeks. The other Serpentians would likely dress up in various fashions for the initial arrival, even the cameracrews. The translators Ikka and Hayame had already donned formal multicolored robes and small rounded hats. Sitting peacefully near the entrance to the cockpit, they were quietly but vigorously checking the lines for the initial Greetings and Presentation of the Fruit Basket Ceremony.

"So... madaam ambassador..." Cameraman Miguel Andropov asked, with mocking reverance.
"Yes... Miguel?" she answered half intently.
"How many hot chicks do you think there are in Omni-Psychotia?"
"Hmmm... that's a good question." Repentant Badger replied sarcastically. Finished with her face paint, she was balancing the feathered headdress over her long, light hair. "You *could* ask Lord Peterson that."
"Ahh... I'm not sure if they'd receive that too well. After all, I'm only Miguel, the lowly cameraman. Why don't you ask them yourself, ambassador? You're a lady of finer distinction."
"Oh... but it's your question..." she replied musically.

The intercom system bursted a mechanical clap, as a message from the pilot interrupted the banter. "Attention, this is Twisted Whirl." the pilot began. "We are entering Omni-Psychotian airspace but are still out of sight of the major landmass. I am contacting their aviation authorities now."

"Uh-oh... better find a window." Miguel announced, pulling out a digital camcorder.
"Being evasive, are you?" Repentant Badger teased. "Besides... what is there to look at? We're not in sight of the landmass yet."
"I'm hoping to catch sight of a boat; or better yet, an OPM patrol."
"Why an OPM patrol?"

"Simple, ambassador." Miguel explained. "You said yourself we didn't have a good estimate of their level of technology. If we get a sight of one of their fighter patrols, we'd have a better estimate of just what kind of junk they've got to offer."

Miguel was right on that point, at least. As of present, Serpent Country didn't have any decent appraisal of Omni-Psychotia's level of technology. In fact, they didn't know much of anything about Omni-Psychotia, except that it had a corporate army and was rather isolationist. And, it had seemingly over-taken a much larger nation. The later fact had given some in the Serpent Country bureaucracy shivers.

Repentant Badger paused. "You can look for their patrols, but remember what we talked about - no photographing OPM or Omni-Corp buildings.

"I'll be good, your excellency." Miguel whined.
"Good - you better." Repentant Badger cautioned. "This is an important diplomatic mission. And even if you are accustomed to doing independent work with more leeway... you will not screw up *this* mission."
"I gotcha, Madaam Badger. I'll be good." Miguel answered.

******* ***** ****

The cockpit of the Blunderbuss was illuminated mostly by faded green pilot lights and the orange tint of the morning sun. After making a brief announcement, the pilot held a microphone to the third translator on the expedition. Speaking a language the pilot didn't understand, in a soft voice she annouced, "Hello. This is the Serpent Country Diplomatic Transport Blunderbuss, a semi-rigid helium airship. We have entered your airspace and are requesting permission to dock at whatever mooring mast or airpark you deem suitable for our landing. We are bearing diplomatic guests and a geographical survey team. Requesting permission to land, over."

The pilot snatched the microphone back from his translator. Returning to the spiriant Serpent Tongue, she asked him, "Are you sure they'll even have a mooring mast. I don't think many countries use fleets of blimps these days."

"We are on a semi-rigid dirigible transport. This is not a 'blimp'" the pilot correctly coldly. Like any good pilot, he took pride in his vessel, and in his proper use of aeronautical terminology. "And even if they don't have a mooring mast, we are equipped wtih landing grapples swell enough to park this boat on a mountain."

"I see." the translator answered. Both of them turned to the massive cockpit window, waiting for the shores of Omni-Psychotia to creep up on the horizon.

ooc: what language(s) are spoken in Omni-Psychotia?
Omni-Psychotia
03-03-2005, 19:20
OCC: The main laguage of Omni-Psychotia is Omnitic, a laguage similar in grammerical complexity to english, but sounding more like gaelic.

Tillicum Nwod had been a diplomat for Omni-Psychotia for many years now, and he was never more excited in his life. Finally he would be dealing with people from somewhere other than Moreith or the Republic of Ornery Bastards (from which Omni-Psychotia obtained 75% of it's millitary technology through Omni-Corp.). It was high time Lord Peterson started relations with other nations via diplomatic process, rather than just sending mercenaries to whoever could afford it.

"Sir, we have recieved trasmission that the Serpentian airship has entered our space and is on rout to Pinnicle." A lowly grunt, with obvious distain for the lack of SAM fire, reported to the diplomat, "Shall we scrammble fighters?"

Nwod raised an eyebrow, "As an escort you mean?"

"Yes," More distain from the grunt, "As an escort."

"Then yes, scrammble two or three Raptors* and escort them to the landing area." Nwod scratched his goatee in puzzlement, "Who the hell uses zepplins anymore?"

The grunt growled softly, "Outsiders, of course."

Indeed, thought Nwod with a slightly sarcastic smile, Outsiders.

Tillicum Nwod mentally prepared himself for the approaching encounter with this new race. He remembered the dossier concerning their odd appearence and clothing style. He wondered if he would be able to keep a straight face. Nwod himself was wearing a clean cut black business suit and yellow tie. On the back of the suit, as was customary in Omni-Psychotian culture, was his personal symbol and motto: A dove with an olive branch and the words "Peace is the Answer".

He was not very popular for his views; most Omni-Psychotians embraced their inborn arrogence and their symbols reflected that. For example, the grunt that stood nearby had a bloody fist and the words "Lead by Example, Crush Them All." on the back of his dark blue leather and kevlar tunic.

Nwod watched the skies as the three Raptor* jet fighters shot overhead. Today was going to be an interesting day.

*The Raptor fighter jet is super-sonic, has twin .50 calibre machineguns with payload of 3000 rounds and is equiped with six sidewinder missiles. The Raptor also has the capability to lock onto a target and have every other Raptor within 2 kilometers lock on as well, effectively creating a pin-point missile barrage on a single designated target. These versions of Raptors are, unfortunately, notorious for their weakness against other fighters, and therefore are usually backed up by the Quasicotl Anti-Fighter fighter or (if within Omni-Psychotic airspace) by multitudes of SAM sites.

Kuradian President Garrick Armisael read the CLASSIFIED report about the state of Omni-Psychotia
"Mmhhhh, they don't seem to have any expansionistic aims for now, but Kuradia is dangerously close to them, just a few hundred of kilometers from Kuradian Coast, their army is bigger than our, well, if they invade us, there will be a baptism of fire......"
The President was referring to the experimental humanoid battle units currently in development within Kuradian labs, the combined the agility of a man with the speed and firepower of a tank....

then the man opened the window of his office, looking down, seeying the city, and at the horizon, the Sea
"My beloved Kuradia, i will never let your freedom be taked away from a stranger"

then a violent jet engine noise

3 Thunderfire Fighter Bombers, the indigenous version of the Raptor, that foregoes the tail wings for better manuverability and speed, passed above the parliament

"This is Twisted Whirl." the Blunderbuss' pilot announced through the intercom. "We have confirmed RADAR contact of three high-speed aeroplanes approaching our position, from Omni-Psychotia. Probably an escort for us. They should be visible shortly, at bearing three-hundred twenty two degrees mark fifteen degrees positive."

"That sounds like your OPM patrol, Miguel." Repentant Badger answered. Strangely enough, she had began to slowly pace about the passenger compartment; likely the thought of performing her first real diplomatic mission was making her nervous. As it was, her pacing made her headress bob.

Not sparing any time, Miguel raced to a portside window and began to crane his camera for a better look. In doing so, he almost tripped over the translators who had finished their last minute check. Rendered curious as well, the two translators craned a view as well, along with the resident anthropologist, the second geographical cameraman, and even the ambassador herself.

Scanning the air, Miguel's camcorder caught sight of the three Raptors zooming in. "And there we go, ladies and gentleman, our first OPM patrol."

"Well... that clears something up... it looks like their technology is roughly the same as ours, perhaps a hair better." Repentant Badger remarked.

"What were you expecting, madaam ambassador? Flying saucers or wicker-work biplanes?"

Another mechanical clap was followed by a second announcement from the pilot. "We have another three radar contacts detected, likely more high-speed aeroplanes heading inbound to Omni-Psychotia. No visual contact or identification as of yet. Furthermore, we should be coming within sight of Pinnacle fairly soon; I will angle our course for a better look."

"Sir, we have radar contact with three unidentified aircraft headed into our airspace." Lord Peterson's assistant frowned at the report, "They are requesting permission to, and I quote, 'blow the mother's out of existence'. Shall I give them the go-ahead?"

Lord Peterson raised an eyebrow and chuckled a little, "Of course! But only if they enter our space without asking for permission, and if they do ask for permission, tell them to bugger off. Don't waste the Quasicotls on them, power up the coastal SAMs instead." Lord Peterson leaned back in his chair. Today was an exciting day indeed.

---------

Nwod broke into a grin as wide as his head. The airship was in sight and he was soon to make contact, PEACEFUL contact, with a new race for the first time in his career. He stood to his full height, staggering even for an Omni-Psychotian, at seven foot ten and made sure his emaculate black hair was in place. He put on his most regal air and waited for them to land...

ooc: sorry about the delay; I've just been a little busy. My next post is a fairly long one.
ic:

Slowly the Serpentian airship Blunderbuss moored itself to the landing area reserved for it, hooking itself to the ground using hissing, thin-lined grapples to literally reel itself to the ground. The docking procedure would have been easier had a mooring mast been present, but few nations practiced lighter-than air flight with the voracity of the Blunderbuss's homeland.

The delegation from Serpent Country waited near the door of the Airship during this landing procedure, the pilot busily adjusting the landing mechanism.

"Wow... they're all huge." The translator Ikka exclaimed aloud. Even from the window of the airship they could see that the suited figures standing on the platform were easily taller than all of them, maybe being two meters in height. Few Serpentians were very tall; and Ikka and Hayame were short even by the standard of other Serpentians. They would go about to chest height on most of these people.

"What are you waiting for?" Repentant Badger asked aloud. "The music is about to start." By music, she meant the initial diplomatic march that was reserved for events such as these.

***** ***** ***** *****

The door to the airship popped open with a mechanical hiss, hitting the ground and revealing a staircase built into its rear. Behind the door stood two short figures clad in long green robes, both with beige rounded hats and painted lines of orange on their face. The figure on the left was a dark-skinned woman with blue hair; the figure on the right had only tan skin, with dark eyes and curly hair. Neither of them wasted time rushing down the staircase. From an external speaker deep and upbeat pentatonic music began to play, consisting largely of drums, flutes, and string instruments.

The two translators rushed down from the airship, and curtsied at the assembled Omni-Psychotians before them. In mostly grammatically correct but accented Omnitic, they announced,

"We extend bring greetings from Commonwealth of Serpent Country to Empire of Omni-Psychotia. We are translators Ikka and Hayame." At the name Ikka the blue-haired girl curtsied, and at the name Hayame the light-skinned man did the same.

"We humbly apologize for any poor command we may have of Omnitic, for we have worked hard but have not had great opportunity to practice Omnitic language in home isles. Please be kind to us."

The music built to a low crescendo with choral notes in a language not understood, then stopped abruptly with the beating of a gong. From outside the ship, a slightly taller woman, but still much shorter than the Omni-Pyschotians stepped slowly out of the ship, with as much regal mien as she could muster. She wore a crown of teal and red feathers, and had cool jade eyes. As she reached the ground, a Serpentian and one obviously foreign-born person sallied behind her, darting out with digital camecorders in hand. They proceeded to survey the scene, recording both their countrymen and the Omni-Psychotians in front of them.

The woman in the headdress walked to figure whom the dossier had told her was named Tillicum Nwod. Tall for a Serpentian, she was like a dog before a giant in front of the tall man. The tip of her headress was barely in line with his chin. Face still cool, she hissed something untranslated to the blue-haired woman on her right, who promptly tried to rerender it in Omnitic.

"She says, 'I am called Iwuka Nasho-Muthrani, which is Ambassador Raccoon-Sorry in Omnitic.'" Ikka seemed oblivious to the fact that this was the wrong translation of the ambassador's name; likely everyone in Serpent Country was. "She says, 'On behalf of the People of the Commonwealth of Serpent Country, we extend peaceful greetings, and hope for good relations in the future.'"

The man on the right chimed in, with vowels that were more weirdly inflected.

"She also say, 'We have brought tasty fruit basket and cute plush-toy Plumed Serpent for leader of Omni-Psychotia. Goodwill gift. Much tasty-cuteness."

OCC: sorry I'm late. I've been pretty busy too.

Nwod shot a glance at his grunt assistant as the merc chuckled, "Lookit'em, they look like a marching rainbow."

"Shut up, or I'll have you on riot duty in Morieth for the rest of your natural life." Nwod grumbled coldly. There were no more outbursts from the grunt.

Nwod sat patiently through the butchering of his laguage without offence, his utmost of respect for the delegates clearly eveident.

"Thank you all for coming to our humble island nation. I am Tillicum Nwod, and am very pleased to make your aquaintence Ambassador Nasho-Muthrani," The words were also heavly accented, but Nwod's qrasp of the Serpentian language was flawless. "I will be your escort for the day."

Nwod raised his hand and gestured toward an open train car. It was a bullet train, much like the rest of Omni-Psychotia's mass transport system, but it was on it's own private track.

"I'm sorry we don't have limo's, but automobiles are banned in Omni-Psychotia." He gave the ambassador a friendly smile, "But this thing is as close to a Cadillac as you can get."

OOC: It's okay; stuff comes up. I'm just glad the thread hasn't died.

"Thank you all for coming to our humble island nation. I am Tillicum Nwod, and am very pleased to make your aquaintence Ambassador Nasho-Muthrani,"

The eyes of translators Ikka and Hayame flew wide open at Nwod's reply, and even Ambassador Repentant Badger, who was much better at concealing her responses, shot a curious glance with her green eyes.

How did he learn to speak our language so well? they all wondered to themselves; he must have spent an impressive amount of time practicing. Ikka was also silently wondering if Tilicum Nwod was in fact a telepathic alien, but she was a little too embarassed to make such suspicions aloud. Hayame was more occupied with wondering whether the Omnitic phrase "Marching Rainbow" was a compliment or an insult.

The two translators proceeded to stand rather dumbfounded, whereas the foreign born cameraman Miguel concealed a wince. You're making us look stupid. he thought to himself, glancing at Hayame and Ikka. Repentant Badger simply smiled warmly, slightly amsued, at Tilicum.

"Your command of the Serpent Tongue is impressive, Honored Diplomat Tilicum Nwod." the ambassador replied. "You have me at an advantage; you speak as well as many of our countrymen."

She paused momentarily, before continuing.

"The pleasure of this visit is all mine, and there is no need to apologize for the lack of limousines; I would much prefer a bullet train anyway." Nice, she thought to herself, a country with a decent public transit system. At Nwod's gesture, she nodded to him, then marched toward the open train car, a convoy of followers behind her.

Following the ambassador's arrival, an additional duo exited the airship. Their evident "leader" was a taller man in brightly patterned clothing with a large floppy hat, the second was a shorter man wearing a T-shirt and bestraddled with a giant backpack of camera equipment. They looked something like lost passengers waiting for a bus, and glanced left and right as if unsure of who to talk to.

The translator Hayame broke off to join them, to whom they hissed and murmured something to. In response, he rendered aloud, in mangled Omnitic.

"These persons are minimal geographic survey-looking team. They extend greetings, and want follow to capital for survey. They say similar party from Omni-Psychotia welcome; may use airship for transport to Serpent Country Home Islands."

() So, what is this portion of the map? Big-Gripper hovers his finger over a splotch picked up by satellite reconnaissance and the expanding social web of the vesh's relations.

() The Empire of Omni-Psychotia, Warrior, replies the Technician that controls the map. Our intelligence on that nation is limited, but they are not particularly peaceful, not particularly warlike. Their attitude is one of self-superiority.

Big-Gripper snickers to himself. () That is a common error. Perhaps we should investigate this further, as a possibility?

() I truely wouldn not know, Warrior. Mater is becoming impatient, and desires the vesh to grow, in one way or another.

() Fair enough. I will recommend to Mater that this may be worth looking into.

Nwod was brimming with pride. The shocked expressions on the Serpentian's faces as he spoke their language sent delighted chills up his spine.

This is what it's all about, he thought, thank Omni-Psychotia I still have a gift for languages.

"Of course your survey team may come with us, everyone is welcome." He led the way into the train car.

The interior was something out of a dream...for someone with a strange sense of humour. The walls were navy blue and the carpet was dark green, clashing together and somewhat hard on the eyes. The furnishings were plush and comfortable, and somewhere Slayer was belting out Raining Blood.
Nwod sat closest to the door connecting to the control car.

"I know the colour scheme is all wrong, but most Omni-Psychotians are colour blind. Oh, and please forgive the music. We know that not all nations cherish heavy metal like our people do." Nwod gestured toward a servant, "If you desire a drink or any sort of recreational drug, just ask Pedwell."

Pedwell glared at the visitors with thinly veiled hatred (xenophobia at it's best) but appeared to be in control of himself, "Would the ambassador like a drink? Perhapse a joint, or line?" On the back of the servant's red vest was the symbol for radioactivity and the words 'Just Nuke The Bastards'.

True to his word, within the space of a day a Cessna Citation XLS (http://www.charterauction.com/newsletter/XLS_inflight1.jpg) with a modified powerplant for better endurance starts nearing the edge of Psychotian airspace. The plane, painted in the standard navy blue and royal purple color livery standard to the vesh, transmits its identification and requests clearance to enter, approach, and land. Assuming all goes well, the pilot politely follows all directives to the letter and sets down the donated business jet onto the tarmac of whatever airport is designated.

The plane's sole passenger is one Masjon Hieronymus Styger, a tall man of fit build standing 190 centimeters tall and sporting a meticulously clean-shaven chin and orderly cap of thick, straight brown hair. With his alert but not piercing brown eyes, he has the sort of leading yet not overbearing image that would do well for a representative, be he a politician or simply a sales agent. As Styger is the first to point out, the word masjon is somewhere between the two but neither; it is more equivalent to a Foreign Minister except that it lacks the authority usually given to one with such a title. He is polite, curteous, and uncannily serene; if he weren't wearing a good-quality business suit and had some witty and knowledgable things to say about international affairs, he could easily be mistaken for an escapee from some introspective religious order.

Just like the pilot, he politely goes as asked so as to facilitate a meeting between him and the diplomats mentioned previously.

Repentant Badger winced internally at the heavy metal music, but fortunately she was skilled enough at controlling her expressions to stop this from registering. I've had lots of practice. she thought to herself. While she personally didn't care for metal, many other Serpentians did, and for some bizarre reason every time she stepped into an elevator in the home isles an onslaught of Death Metal would blare obnoxiously at her.

The Serpentian ambassador nodded at Nwod, then turned to face the glaring Pedwell. Hmmm... I don't think this boy likes me very much. At this point, she was more bemused by this than anything. "Do you have hot tea by any chance?" she asked him politely, her message rendered by her translator Ikka. As an ambassador, per protocol she was ordered not to smoke pot during regular proceedings. She'd have enough trouble getting everything right as it was.

Repentant Badger turned again to face Tilicum Nwod. "There is no need to apologize for your tastes in music - or in upholstery, ambassador. Many Serpentians have similar inclinations in this regard." Damned elevators, the words surfaced in her head. She pushed them back down.

For a moment she studied Nwod closely with green eyes. He seems quite amiable, a good quality for a diplomat. Thankfully, he didn't seem as conniving as a politician, which rated him well in her mind. Curiosity crept into her mind.

"So ambassador... your skill with languages seems most impressive." she began, "Do you speak many others beside Omnitic and Serpentian? And can you also see colors?"

"Yes, we have tea. I'll get you some right away." Pedwell turned a little too quickly and bumped into Nwod. It almost seemed as if it was on purpose, "So sorry, sir."

I think people might resent me for this endevour, but we must start to reform our foreign policy, Tillicum thought as he watched the servant retrieve the orders for everyone, including a tea for the ambassador and a strong black russian for Nwod, his usual.

"Indeed, I am colour blind like most of our people. In fact, four out of five Omni-Psychotian's share this defect. The cause is still not known," Pedwell returned with the drinks in what seemed to be record time. Nwod sipped deeply and continued, "As for my gift of tongues, I do indeed speak many other languages. I speak English fairly well, as well as French, German, Arabic, Spanish, and Dutch. I speak excellent Mandorine and Cantonese, and my Japanese is passable. I also speak Ornerish, the language of the Ornery Bastards, and Moriethic-" at this, both Pedwell and the Grunt spit on the floor. Nwod gave them both a look of pure ice. "-which is the official language of the Conqured Land. And to top it all off, I speak four different dialects of Omnitic, and your beautiful language, of course."

Outside the train car, the destination of the party was coming into view. On the platform a lone figure waited to greet them; the Vesh diplomat.

Nwod brought his hand to his ear and looked to be in deep thought for a moment. He raised his head and smiled, "Ah, we have more visitors to our great country. I hope you do not mind. We ARE fairly new to diplomacy (well, MOST of us are, myself excluded) and my superiors would like to 'put all of our eggs in one basket', so to speak."

Repentant Badger thanked Pedwell for the drinks through a brief nod. The two cameramen of the survey team were busily scanning the train and the landscape as unobtrusively as possible, but the two translators and the additional member of the Survey team both felt a cool chill at the reaction of the Omni-Psychotians to the mention of the "Conquered Land." If the ambassador herself had any similar thought she did not show it; she was as tranquil as a willow in a spring breeze.

As the train ground to a halt outside the platform, the eyes of the Serpentians darted to the diplomat standing on the platform. Repentant Badger cracked a smile.

"A wise policy your leaders have adapted, Diplomat Tilicum Nwod. It seems that you are full of more than one surprise today. At any rate, I have not heard of any other representative here, but shall have no ill thoughts against making their acquaintance."

Edit: realized that the word "Vesh" had not been mentioned aloud, so I altered the ambassador's last line

"Then let us begin our adventure together." Nwod beamed as he opened the door to a truly stunning sight.

In every direction, save the one the diplomatic party came from, Pinnacle stretched further than the naked eye could see. Among the many trees three and four storey buildings could be seen littering the landscape. There were no buildings above this height, Nwod explained, so that the oak and pine filled landscape was unmarred. If buildings needed to be expanded, they expanded underground. Graffiti covered every wall and street, but it was not the sort attributed to criminal behaviour. Beautiful (and more often than not colorfully mismatched) murals adored every available surface. Below them, an angel and demon struggled eternally, locked in layers of paint. The citizens of Pinnacle milled to and fro on bicycles, rollerblades and skateboards. Others swarmed onto the many trains that shot about the city at break-neck speeds. The citizens were regarding the foreigners with cold curiosity, but for the most part did not seem hostile. However, nearly everyone looked at Nwod with contempt. The diplomat payed them little attention.

"Welcome to Pinnacle, capitol city of Omni-Psychotia," he gestured to the Vesh diplomat to join them, "Where would you like to go first?"

The survey team perked up from their previous bout of idleness, busily scanning the area and circling about, recording the mismatched murals and wandering citizens with a strange mixture of professionalism and excitement. The two translators became quite enamoured with the picture of the demon and angel; plainly awed by the colors and squatting down to get a better look at the details.

"There are many places I would like to see, ambassador. But perhaps I should leave the first destination up to you; this is - in fact, your country. Unless, our new companion has better counsel." she turned to face the Vesh diplomat, latest addition to the group.

Styger smiles diplomatically, looking over Pinnacle and its chaotic (to him) landscape, nodding slightly. Nothing like back in Cvechiokal, not even since before the Rayverr arrived. "Only being a guest, I have little in the way of knowledge of what you have to show us," he replies evenly, smiling to his companions, "but I could at least offer an opinion, or a suggestion... do you have any areas dedicated to your history--monuments, memorials and such--which may help in illustrating the story of your nation and how it came to be where it is today?"

He offers a slight shrug, as if quietly asking for pardon. "Also, please forgive my delay... I'm a curious person, as is the vesh pij verr I represent, so I've been asking questions and thus slowing my travel ever since I arrived. Still, it's a beautiful city," Styger continues, changing track again as he looks back out over the metropolis, "I especially appreciate how you incorporated the trees into your cityscape."

Sorry for the delay--concert.

Nwod tilted his head and smiled, "Well, if it's history you'd like, then history we'll have! The Omni-Psychotic Museum of History is a short walk away. We can also visit the monument of Peterson, which stands at the city centre. We have four and a half hours before your suites in your hotel are ready, and another two hours after that before the official meeting with our government officials. The choice is yours, but I must personally suggest the museum, for it is brimming with knowledge of our past."

Time: 12:57 pm

----Elsewhere----

Rumley didn't like this plan, it seemed dirty.

The members of M.U.F.F. (Morieth Union Freedom Force) were gathered around a large, round table, discussing a matter of great importance.

Byron Dock reviewed the plan so far, "Alright, Joseff Cyrun will be our opperative. He will enter the hotel at 2:00 pm, exactly two hours from now, and set up his equipment. Any questions so far?"

Rumley looked grave, "Does he realize that this is a suicide mission?"

"Dammit Rumley, for the last time; YES! He would not have voulenteered if he didn't know." Byron was exasperated, he didn't have time to go over this again.

Rumley was unfazed, "I didn't ask if he knew, I asked if he realized. He has a wife you know, and three kids. Do they know about this?"

Byron was also unfazed, "The life of one man and the grief of his family is worth far less than the freedom of our people. Do you want to live the rest of your life as a second class citizen?"

"What about the lives, Moriethian AND Omni-Psychotian, that will be lost if this succeeds? I'd gladly sacrifice my personal freedom to avoid that loss.

Uther Tenn, the mediator and highest ranking M.U.F.F. member present boomed, "ENOUGH! The plan is going forward, Rumley, so quit stalling. And Byron, shut up. Your instigation in this matter is not helping."

Byron gave Rumley a cold look but continued, "Anyway, Cyrun will be fitted with Omni-Psychotian style clothing, including symbol and motto, and will be given two MP55 sub-machine guns. His targets include Styger, the Vesh representative, and ambassador Nasho-Muthrani. He will scream a Psychotian motto, such as 'The world WILL be ours!' or 'Death before foreign invasion!' so as to implicate himself as a rabid local. We have documents that prove him as a true Omni-Psychotian that are untraceable. We all know that when their ambassadors are killed, these countries will ask for either immediate apology or immediate compensation. We also all know that Peterson will not comply, due to his massive superiority complex. The plan is not flawless, but if it succeeds, we will have our 'betters' locked in a duel-fronted war that they cannot possibly win." Byron waited for questions, but got none, "We will then seize our homeland back. There is no possible way they can defend against M.U.F.F. if their defence is crippled."

This was grim business indeed, and Rumley still didn't like the idea.

"I'll admit, your glowing encomium of the museum makes me think it is the best choice," Styger replies cordially, looking almost far too much the diplomat, "but on such a trifiling manner I'd feel no loss of face if my fellow representative here"--he nods to Nasho-Muthrani--"feels any different... of course, that reminds me!" He chuckles, shaking his head slowly as he extends his hand. "I've been remiss in introducing myself. Masjon Hieronymus Styger, speaker for the vesh pij verr. Please forgive my lapse of politeness--I've never been too good with long plane flights."

OOC: Indeed, plot twists are most excellent.

"Iwuka Nashro-Muthrani, Representative of Hathawa Minyeshika, the Commonwealth of Serpent Country." Repentant Badger replied, bowing to Styger, feathered headdress bobbing slightly. Her translator left both her name and her country's name untranslated, echoing the style of Styger. "I am pleased to meet your acquaintance, Masjon Hieronymus Styger. I must confess shameful ignorance, word of your nation has yet to reach our remote shores."

She took a second to study Styger. Calm, talkative, and very pleasant she thought, and a servant of a mysterious power. Eventually, she'd figure him out.

"I find your suggestion very amenable, Masjon. I would also like to see the museum, history is a passion of mine. And I am sure the explorers with me as well would appreciate such a display." the man in the floppy hat nodded.

The decision was made, and the museum was the destination. Nwod gladly led the way down the road, talking about the city as he went.

"Pinnacle was founded on the very day that the first Peterson declared the rights of the people would come first above all. It was he who penned our constitution, which lays out the many rights and duties of our people. It was his dream to lead the way to a gleaming paradise, where no man, woman or child was unhappy. This city was built as a cornerstone of our society. It is here where it all began." Nwod showed obvious pride in the city, and spoke with a sort of reverance. He started pointing out buildings of note, "That is our Crisis Centre, where any person at any time can walk in and get free physical or mental therapy. Up ahead is the Omni-Psychotia Centre for Environmental Research, where we are attempting to develope state of the art waste management systems. And there..." Nwod pointed at a small building, almost run-down looking in it's quaintness, "Is the home of the best damn coffee in Pinnacle."

The name of the cafe was Jonny Mo's, and it did indeed look like one of those dinners that miraculously happened to house excellent coffee.

Nwod smiled again (he tended to smile quite often), "And here, my friends, is the Omni-Psychotia Museum of History. Step inside and into the past..."

Styger quietly follows Nwod, walking alongside Iwuka as he looks at the cityscape of Pinnacle, watches the people, carefully observes. This place has much to offer the vesh, he muses, there is untold expertise in our new peoples and our new lands that we could tap for the betterment of Cvechiokal. An adversarial culture is no more than an attitude we will have to align to the will of Mater, over time. Cvechiokal, a rural backwater region even in the best days of the former Empire, now lacks the knowledge base and teaching infrastructure needed for good doctors and ecologists. The rayverr, acting in 'stewardship' over the territory, truely wants to help the human population... they are vesh after all, they are family... but there is only so much that the Gift can do, for the Gift does not know physiology, anatomy, toxicology, pathology until the vesh as a whole does via the rayverr. While the musty books of libraries is an aid, they are not the equivalent of a true education on the matter.

Then, there is the web of relation. He subtly watches Nashro-Muthrani in one of his observation sweeps. The more we get out and meet, the even more we meet. Links in a chain, the branching of nature... the spread of our Gift. He smiles to himself. I am a light to the world. The light of Mater's glorious magnanimity.

He nods politely as his Omni-Psychotian guide points out the landmarks, still bearing the secretive smile--priest of a mystery faith. Without hesitation, he steps into the past.

Miguel the cameraman bobbed his course left and right, professionally holding his camecorder level as he scanned the buildings and paintings which Nwod was directing them toward. Ahead of Miguel, Styger and Repentant Badger followed their host, nodding politely and doing whatever ambassadorial things their positions required. Badger seemed more interested in polite questions; Styger in more of a fog of calm. Watching everyone. Miguel thought, passing over Styger with a sweep of his camecorder. That's what he's doing. Just like Badger... they're both sucking everything in. He smiled to himself, and wondered if Repentant Badger had caught on as well.

A good cup of coffee would be nice right now... the cameraman thought to himself, circling his view about the buildings Tilicum Nwod pointed. The Serpentian Anthropologist in the floppy hat seemed more excited, on the verge of jumping up and down. Miguel wasn't quite sure why.

So far the government of this place seemed a little like Serpent Country's, Miguel thought to himself. Only better organized. But, at the same time, he was sure there would be plenty of surprises here.
Omni-Psychotia
30-03-2005, 21:49
It was plain to see what Omni-Psychotia thought of the rest of the world, and, according to the giant scale model in the centre of the museum lobby, that wasn't very much.

The model was an exact replica of Omni-Psychotia, all 750 square killometres of it, compacted into about 75 square metres of finely crafted metal. The land was beautiful; a large island with a colder than normal temperate climate surrounded by pristine beaches, and a large volcanic (yet long dormant) mountain in the dead centre. The mountain stretched nearly to the hight of the cathedral-style ceiling. Going around the model at about 25 feet above the floor was a circular walkway with stairs leading up. The walkway allowed for a nice bird's-eye-view of the lush Omni-Psychotian landscape.

Littered about the model where small models of each individual village, town and city. It was apparent Omni-Psychotia was dominated by artists; every town was crafted with such detail that almost every individual building could be seen. Sticking out of the centre of each city was a flag declaring it's name.

The alarming thing about the model, and what established the Omni-Psychotic mindset concerning foreigners, was not a part of the island itself; it was out to sea, about two metres from the fabricated shore. Surrounding the entire island was a wall, built in the water and shooting (judging by scale) about forty metres in the air.

"That won't be complete until 2007," Nwod said with mild disgust, "It's meant to keep all but air traffic out of Omni-Psychotia. It will also house anti-air rocket turrets and be the home of four submarine penns." Xenophobia is a scary thing, was what Nwod was about to say, but he bit his tongue.

"If you have any other questions, I'll be happy to answer them. If not, we can continue on to one of the wings: Political History, Science and Nature, Culture Shock, Media and Entertainment, or-" Nwod pointed a forbodeing finger at one dimly lit hallway, "-War."
Serpent Country
31-03-2005, 06:23
Hmmm... pretty but paranoid. Miguel thought to himself, surveying the scale model map. A picture of it would likely make a good side article in the Geographic Society's magazine. A fortified island, complete with SAM batteries and submarine pens, and a painted city inside. A wonder of the world; likely costing a Deity's ransom.

Repentant Badger also pondered the map. She vaguely wondered what kind of discourse had convinced the Omni-Psychotians to decide such a wall was necessary, which gave her a slight chill. I see we'll have to cure them of this xenophobia. It didn't sound like an easy task. But she was patient. Serpent Country was patient.

At the same time, she found herself wondering about the corridors. Her interest was in history; at first she thought that the corridors labelled "War" and "Political History" in letters alien to her might explain Omni-Psychotia best. But now she was suspecting the hall labelled "Culture Shock" would give a better summary of Tilicum's world. She wondered what degree of shock could impel a nation to such isolationism.

"A beautiful model indeed, Tilicum Nwod. As resplendant with foilage as is your nation. But I cannot help but wonder what transpirations have convinced your countrymen to erect such an impressive fortification." And an expensive one. she thought to herself. "Did you and your diplomatic corps have any input on this endeavour? And just why will this great wall be made?"

OOC: How much are you two role-playing the populations of your countries at for this thread? I was going to play at my NS level of 630-something million, but I may readjust it for this thread to be closer the level of Omni-Psychotia (which cannot fit near as many people).

Styger is the voice of the vesh. As such, he finds himself more curious as to the amounts of resources and engineering knowledge that would go into building such a wall instead of the cultural impetus that demanded it be built, although that certainly impinges upon his quiet calm as well. "Yes, an outstanding example of large-scale engineering, if it comes to pass." When addressing a proud people, address them on those things that make them proud to put them at ease. "Of course, it stands to reason that such a structure will take massive amounts of steel, iron, concrete, and such to build... if your island has such resources available to it, I must congratulate you and the engineering minds that could make this work. Would you happen to know, or know who would know, how your nation plans to make this plan a reality?"

Not why so much as how. How is more important at the moment, and the why may become more apparent later, or in how the question is answered.

OOC:

I have a spreadsheet I work off of, and I update it irregularly. Right now the current population of the vesh is about 2.1 billion, 1.7 billion of that being the various phenotypes of the Rayverr and 430 million Cvechiokali humans. We have the same problem as China or North Korea--we may have millions and millions of soldiers, but we cannot move them too easily. Supply chains are difficult to maintain and that must be kept in mind in all campaigns... which is why the vesh is quietly looking to expand its influence diplomatically.
Omni-Psychotia

"The resources are actually quite plentiful here," Nwod was explaining to Styger, "We have been very conservative in the use of our non-renewable resources over the course of our civilization, and the design of the wall itself will use as little material as possible while still being solid. However, the construction will still be very taxing on our stockpiles of iron, and we will be taking on a huge deficit in order to complete this venture."

The diplomat faced Repentant Badger, "As for our reasons why this wall is being erected, the simple answer is this; paranoia. According to recent polls, about 85% of Omni-Psychotians support the wall. We have an ingrained superiority complex as a people, and thus tend to view the outside world with severe suspision, and, in some extreme cases, out-and-out hatred. The people of Omni-Psychotia see the wall as protection from the 'barbarian hordes' that dwell beyond the oceans. The fact that nearly all of them have never left the country before does not faze them."
Serpent Country

Muthrani nodded to Tilicum Nwod's reply, vaguely wondering how much hostility she might encounter on her journey here. The translator Ikka found herself pondering how difficult it would be for a hostile navy to scale a forty meter wall. Repentant Badger replied in a measured, friendly voice - intoned like that of a professional hostess, though she was in fact a guest.

"But I wonder ambassador - the isolationism of Omni-Psychotia is not a new phenomenom, but despite that, for all these many years Omni-Psychotia has not yet attempted to construct such a wall. Why now and now before? Are there newer technological resources available to your country? Or is it simply that more news of the outside world has stirred the fears of your people?"
Rayverr
02-04-2005, 07:43
Styger does not know much about the military or industrial properties of the wall and decides to leave those questions to analysts who would know how to evaluate any information he returns with. "Taking on a deficit... via international trade?" The masjon half-smiles humorously. "That would appear to be a paradox--creating a trade deficit with external powers, so they gain an economic foothold in your nation... in order to build a wall to keep them out? Perhaps I understand wrongly; I've never had a head for finance."
Omni-Psychotia
04-04-2005, 19:06
Nwod was starting to get uncomfortable. He was positive that his nation's isolationist attitude would become the forfront of the conversation, and he felt wrong about defending what were obviously the country's faults. Still, he had to put the most positive spin on the situation.

"We have an understanding with the Republic of Ornery Bastards. We have one of the most elite mercenary training programs in the world, but very little money for our millitary funding. In exchange for the funds we need to build our wall, we have agreed to subject the Republic of Ornery Bastards' millitary recruits to the same rigorus training." Nwod explained, "So you see, we are not totally isolationist. However, recent...conflicts involving our OPM officers abroad have stirred the flames of paranoia here at home. The demand for the wall is not only strong on a government level, but at the public level as well."

OCC: Sorry, should have said this earlier. I'm playing Omni-Psychotia in this thread as if it still had a pop of about 150 mil.
Serpent Country
04-04-2005, 20:44
The Republic of Ornery Bastards... Nashro-Muthrani thought to herself. Yet another nation we had not heard of. We Serpentians have spent far too much time mucking about in our own region; most of this world is yet beyond our knowledge. She lowered her head soberly. So... the Omni-Psychotians are exporting military expertise - another interesting surprise this island held. As for where the Omni-Psychotians had received their expertise... her mind remarked coldly likely in the "conquered land".

It would not make a good impression for the ambassador of a peaceful nation to ask the diplomat of a paranoid one about their military history upon an initial reception, and so Repentant Badger thought of a good way to change the subject. But before she could summon a topic, the Serpentian in the large floppy hat began waving his hands and chittering softly in a language she herself did not understand.

"I believe my college has a question." she announced. The Serpentian survey head stopped waving his hands and bowed slightly. He switched to the Serpent Tongue, Ikka translating into Omnitic for the benefit of those present with out a gift for the language.

"Yes. Yes." He began in a chattering voice. "My name is Upali Haemyr, with the Serpent Country Geographic Society. I was wondering, your excellency," he noted to Nwod. "Your country is said to have a high population, but yet a very small land area. Is the majority of your population housed underground... or does your population total include the nearby land of Morieth as well, or Omni-Psychotians abroad in Morieth?"

Repentant Badger winced internally, and perhaps externally. She hadn't wanted to bring up the issue of Morieth yet, despite her curiosity. I suppose it had to come up sometime.. Miguel and the geographic team watched on, curiously.

OOC: Don't worry about not posting the population; there really wasn't much of reason to before.

Since we have a multi-billion population super-psionic nation and an isolationist island nation of 150 million, I'll play Serpent Country at 400 million, which is somewhat around where it was when this thread started. Like the vesh the Serpentians have trouble moving troops around, and aren't particularly aggressive anyway. If the population of Psychotia counts their subjects in Morieth, I'll probably bring it down to maybe 100 million+.

"I see. I'm torn between wishing you luck on your wall or quietly lamenting the unlikelihood of further mutual trade and contact between your people and the vesh," Styger replies with a humorous smile. "Is there an original cause of your nation's mistrust of outsiders, or has that been lost from memory and taken on the nature of an unquestioned cultural trait?" he asks politely, simply fulfilling a quiet curiosity.

OOC:

No worries--the 'super-psionics' is limited to telepathy among members of the vesh only. While it generally is a poor idea to stay too close to a citizen of the vesh for extended periods of time, it is no worse than dealing with someone with a severe cold and of course up to OOC agreement.
Omni-Psychotia
06-04-2005, 15:14
Nwod also winced internally. He had hoped the subject of Morieth would not have come up so soon. There were problems with Morieth...BIG problems. The majority of the government secretly believed that their millitary hold on the normally peaceful nation was slipping fast. He couldn't mention this to his guests, and certainly wasn't going to bring up the subject of M.U.F.F....yet.

"The vast majority of our population lives on this island, and mostly underground. It is the reason for our unnaturally pale complections. All businesses and government buildings are aboveground. I'm sure the survey team would like to see the residential area, and we will visit it after our official meeting at the hotel. On the subject of Morieth; there are very few Omni-Psychotians living there. The few that are there mostly consist of OPM officers and grunts. It is a dangerous place for normal citizens."

Nwod breathed in sharply; why did he say that? This was not the time to discuss such matters. He quickly carried on, hoping noone was noticing his distress.

"As for our issues with xenophobia, we are slowly but surely conquring our distaste for the outside world. This diplomatic endevour may not seem like much to you or your people, but it is a milestone for us. And it is also a miracle that you were allowed to visit here at all in these times. I may not be the only one who wants to foster healthy relationships with other nations-" Nwod sighed, "-but sometimes it feels that way."
Rayverr
07-04-2005, 04:00
"Outstanding--I wish you luck then," Styger says with a pastor's smile. "The vesh desires only 'healthy relationships' with all nations. Perhaps an unrealistic goal, but one we nevertheless hope to accomplish. Certainly, if your effort is sustained, the Omni-Psychotians will be respected just as any strong society is."

If he notices Nwom's discomfort, he is polite enough not to show that he does. That is, however, something our universal sorority could address.
Serpent Country
07-04-2005, 05:22
While Repentant Badger kept an open and calm expression, the other Serpentians beside her perhaps stared a little harder at Nwod. Exceptions were Upali, who seemed enthused enough with the prospects of exploring an underground complex to ignore Morieth entirely, and Miguel - who simply raised an eyebrow behind a camera.

He doesn't like talking about this. Repentant Badger noticed, and I'm not sure if I blame him. She doubted that Nwod's knew that Serpent Country had once born the title of "conquered land," but even then she noticed more than a trace of hastiness in his voice. As for the vesh, Styger still seemed beyond her knowledge. But she felt something a little ominous about him; she wasn't quite sure what. Perhaps it was just unease. I would like to ask him a few questions as well sometime.

One part of Repentant Badger's mind debated pressing Nwod further on the issue of Morieth, if only to measure his response. But she decided not to; this did not seem like the proper time or place, and she would likely receive only the government's official story. Besides, so far he was being a gracious host and seemed a decent enough individual; and she did not wish to place him ill at ease. She would watch first, and then choose the right questions to ask later. The Feathered Serpent is tirelessly patient. she remembered. Patience was the mantra of Serpent Country's diplomatic corps.

"Indeed. This step you and your nation has taken is indeed monumental, Tilicum Nwod - to break such a lengthy spell of isolation is indeed an achievement worthy of memory. With patience, history will reward your efforts." I hope all your work does not go to waste, Tilicum Nwod. Even if they do want to build a wall around your country...

"Perhaps we should continue the tour; like most of my people, I too am cursed with the insatiable virus of curiosity. I would like to see all four wings, as would my companions. Which wing would you like to show us first?"
Omni-Psychotia
07-04-2005, 19:39
Nwod breathed a sigh of relief, and silently thanked his country (in a manner that one normally thanks a god) that the subject had been changed. He beamed his best smile and motioned toward his favorite wing.

"I thank you for your appreciation, and I appreciate in turn. Now if you will all step this way; into the hall of Political Science!"

Stepping into the Political Science wing, the party was subject to an assult on the senses. The walls were covered ceiling to floor with giant televison screens, each showing a different documentry of political importance. Beside the screens attached to thin strips of real wall were banks of earphones. Each screen accomodated three people. Over a loud speaker, babbling in coversational Omnitic, was a soft and pleasent female voice. She spoke of the exhibits which lined back to back in a long row running down the middle of the hall...

"...Exhibit number 34: "Peterson's Quil". This was the quill used by Yorob Peterson, the first of the Peterson line, to pen our constitution in the first year of civilization. It is exactly 3289 years, 5 months, and three days old and predates the first year of the Omni-Psychotian calander by at least 52 years..."

Nwod smiled cooly, trying to wow his crowd in the most modest way possible, "Ladies and gentlement, please help yourselves to browse any of the 35 exhibits or six documentaries that are currently on display. If you have any questions about the exhibits, please feel free to ask."

OOC: I love the exhibit titles. :)

At Tilicum Nwod's leave, the cameracrew immediately darted off and proceeded to scan everything in sight. Repentant Badger remained still, trying to look regal but distracted somewhat by all of the pretty exhibits and the animated Ocelot that occassionally looked back at her.

"I thank you for your hospitality ambassador. With you leave, I shall observe these things. Should I have any questions; I shall be sure to bring them too you."

She nodded slightly, almost a half-bow, then took a moment to ponder her options. Perhaps I should first see how this nation is run.

Taking a glance toward Nwod, she glided over toward exhibits 11 and 12. After pausing for a second to stare at the wax figures, her translator Ikka jumped to follow her. The other translator Hayame followed the head of the survey team, who was busily darting along toward the "Burning Business" and "Society: Challenge and Change" exhibits.

"Ikka?" she asked her, pointing her head toward the text. "Can you read this?"

"N." She voiced an affirmative, and started a translation.

Styger nods politely, carefully scanning each exhibit in turn. Here is where his former life as a marketing director truely, but subtly, shines through; here is a matter of image. The vesh is not interested in wax dummies or the story of the failure of capitalism; indeed, being nonmonetary itself, the vesh was needing to know how to make corporations work, at least on a small scale. No, the primary interest of the vesh is the psychology of Omni-Psychotia, best described in its form of government via the Constitution, its history as it responds to internal and external stimuli, and an analysis of their self-superiority.

But no--stalking immediately to those exhibits indicates an interest, barely hints at the overriding goals of the vesh. This is a proud nation with a proud people, and it is a sign of respect--as well as useful obfuscation--to project the image of interest, noting each exhibit in turn while actually taking care to remember those with vital intelligence to meet the vesh's desires.

So, like an officer inspecting the rank and file of his formation on parade, Masjon Styger examines each exhibit, carefully piecing together what he can. It is all fascinating, after all, and Mater has honored him by allowing him to achieve the goals of the vesh in diplomatic and image matters as he sees fit... one must take time, after all, to appreciate the world and one's surroundings on occasion.

As Ikka stepped toward the display for "Society: Challange and Change" words began to scroll across a small display screen possitioned just below the exhibit. The exhibit itself was an ever-changing picture that dippicted the words below:

"Since the time of the constitution, Omni-Psychotian society has been wrapped in the cocoon of socialism. It states in the consitution, 'Every Omni-Psychotian has the right to be undenied in every want and need', and our government and populous take that right very seriously. What started out as communism quickly gave way to a democratically elected senate led by the only non-elected member: the current head of the Peterson family. More can be learned about this transition at the 'The Omni-Government' exhibit, 11. As time flew forward, more and more social programs sprung into existence. A few examples include: 154 C.E, The Hershwag Initiative; a welfare program for those who are deemed 'unemployable', this initiative was designed to hone the skills and abilities the unemployable had and create a niche for them. From this initiative came a massive arts movement, as a staggering 95% of the unemployable at the time showed varying degrees of talent from writing to painting to music. 675 C.E, The Bandage-Front Movement; after many years of protesting and rallying, the citizens of Omni-Psychotia finally got their wish-government subsidised health-care. Today, every opperation, from a heart transplant to a nose job, is payed for by the government. 1386 C.E, The Goldstien Objective; after a long period of recession in the private industry and loss of millions of Gils of govenment money to freeloaders of the welfare program, Alduis Goldstien (then minister of finance) put forth the idea that all business should be government run. The senate voted unanimously for the objective. Now, all citizens work for the govenment, and are paid relative to their job performance and job importance..."

Nwod watched patiently as his quests flittered about exitedly. He noted that the Serpentian ambassadore showed little sign of any emotion but pleased indifference, which made him greatful. He was pleased to be working with a professional.

But something was wrong...Nwod couldn't put his finger on it, but he had a nagging sensation that a disaster was imminent. He glanced at his watch; four hours and forty-five minutes to go before the meeting.

Time: 1:45 PM

----Elsewhere----

Joseff Cyrun found his breath an elusive thing to catch. He had all but broke the sound barrier running up to the third and top floor of the hotel. OPM grunts and Peace Officers were swarming the building, and if any of them just happened to search him (being Moriethian was reason enough) then the whole plan would be blown sky-high.

"Whew, relax man," he told himself as he slipped quickly and quietly into room 313, "Noone saw you. Noone is gonna get you. The plan is going to work and Morieth will be free."

He sat heavly on the bed, laid back and closed his eyes.

I'll never see Jennifer again, the mere thought made him feel as if his intestines were in the grip of a cold iron hand, I'll never see Janus grow up. I'll never see Shandra graduate high-school...will it even be worth it? The pain this'll cause them?

He sat up and flicked on the television to drown out his misery. On the screen, a pretty but plain looking Omni-Psychotian woman was delivering the top story of the day on OPNN (Omni-Psychotia News Network).

"-Sandy Yordonus and I'm in Morieth tonight outside OPM headquarters. As you can see, the building is nothing more than a smoldering shell as hundreds of Moriethian terrorists stormed the building at 12:30 AM today. 14 OPM troops are confirmed dead in the blaze and another 23 lost their lives in the armed exchange that ensued. However, our men fought bravely and beat back the onslaught. 97 terrorists are confrimed terminated and another 43 have been detained-"

Joseff watched in silent horror as a surly OPM grunt dragged the lifeless, bullet riddled corpse of a young woman and deposited it on a pile of Moriethian dead. She couldn't be any older than 16.

Civilians. It wasn't terrorists, but civilians. Peace-loving civilians that were drivin to the edge by a cold and meglomaniacle oppressor: Omni-Psychotia.

"It's worth it." He growled at the empty room.

OOC: Sorry for the lateness. The end of the semester is coming and I'm swamped.

Repentant Badger listened carefully as Ikka whispered a translation of the screen to her.

The right to be undenied in every want and need... she thought to herself. A loftly goal the Omni-Psychotians have set for themselves. She did not think it was possible. An entire population could be satisfied reasonably perhaps, but to supply every material want...

Repentant Badger thought of the Serpentian goddess Rathshasa; the incarnation of commerce and greed. When emulated in moderation she brought fortune and prosperity. But she also had an endless stomach. The more food that was given to satiate her hunger... the more hungry she became. In one myth after a particularly splendid banquet she became so hungry that she had eaten the moon, causing an eclipse.

Such bizarre worries aside, she was not wholly displeased with the disposition of this nation. So far at least, it's people seemed secure and content, its cities were beautifully painted, and it seemed to have a long democratic tradition. The Serpentian Socialist Workers Party would love this place. she thought, I imagine when full relations are opened there will probably be another round of battles in Parliament with their side trying to emulate Omni-Psychotia and the Libertarian party trying to discredit it. She smiled inwardly at the thought; in a wry way, it amused her.

I suppose the only real downsides to this place are its crippling isolation, and that it seems to have some other nation under its hegemony. Many Serpentians would not look kindly on that, especially since Serpent Country had once borne the title of "Conquered Land" itself. Eventually, we're going to have to investigate this Morieth place. Then again, it was quite likely that Omni-Psychotia had an seemy underside of its own; Serpent Country certainly had plenty of them, despite the best of intentions.

Repentant Badger and her colleagues spent the next few minutes browsing throught the many exhibits, taking special note of the constitution, and playing through the documentaries. The ambassador herself took care to watch the Benefits of Isolation, and read through the initial speech by Kregore Peterson.

OOC: I'm not sure how fast the two of you want the plot to progress; I have no qualms with spending more time on exhibits or with simply jumping to the next room.

and yes, semesters get horribly evil near the end. Almost always at least.

Styger finds in all this a sort of quiet kinship with the vesh, the same kinship found between supplicants and preachers, people with particular appetites and needs and others with the capability to fulfill them. The Omni-Psychotians desire every want, every need fulfilled... Quixotic, perhaps, and possibly best suited by an almost Buddhist philosophy of stifling desire. What is the goal of fulfilling desire? Happiness. What can the vesh supply...

He continues thinking on this matter, using it to distract him as he passes diplomatically past a few more wax sculptures. In his mind, religion, standard quotes of Marxism, philosophy, and the overarching goals of the vesh pij verr mix slowly; some of the resulting ideas he decides to keep in the back of his mind to send to Mater later. She could be most interested.

"This may seem something of a non sequitur," he broaches quietly, "but would the Omni-Psychotian history of religion be under 'Media and Entertainment' or 'Culture Shock?' Faiths are another thing I have always been personally curious about."

OOC:

No complaints here. I am somewhat unwell, but hopefully the antibiotics will clear it up. :(

The constitution was a unique exhibit in the way that there was no screen with scrolling text; there was simply a plexiglass casing with the near-perfectly preserved parchment inside.

It read: "The following are the six rules of government. All leaders and government officials will abide by these rules, even if the cost of doing so is one's life: 1. Every Omni-Psychotian has the right to be undenied in every want and need.
2. Society before business; money is secondary to happiness and safety.
3. Outsiders are never to be trusted, treat them accordingly.
4. Warriors we are, and warriors we shall always be. Train hard in the ways of battle.
5. The environmental beauty of our nation shall remain ever unsullied.
6. No Omni-Psychotian is superior to another; every man, woman and child is equal.

The penmanship was very dignified, but the lack of detail in the wording betrayed the document's age. It was obvious that this constitution was not followed to the letter; the massive wall being built around the island and the presence of outsiders within Omni-Psychotia's borders were proof of that.

Nwod glanced at Styger with a raised eyebrow, "Ah, religion. Not a popular subject in Omni-Psychotia," He raised his hands before anyone could misunderstand, "It's not that we are an anti-religious country, it is simply that the majority of our population cares little about spirituality. For us, being Omni-Psychotian is more important than being Christian or Muslim or Buddist. There are one or two religious exhibits in the 'Culture Shock' wing, but that is all."

Nearby, the OPM grunt silently raised a hand to his ear. He stayed in this position for a few seconds before speaking a silent conformation. He then siddled up beside Nwod and spoke softly in his ear.

Nwod tensed slightly and looked grave for perhapse a half-second before his ultimate composure was regained.

"It seems the meeting has been moved up, we must leave soon." He gathered the attention of his guests, "We have time to browse this wing a short while longer and visit one other, but then we must attend to business."

Styger smiles diplomatically. "Well understood. The vesh is not exactly what one could call 'religious' either; we tend to doubt that some incorporeal being can make us happy." He smiles serenely. "Still, one must admit that when the sectionalizing tendencies of religion are avoided, it does have certain moral philosophies which are beneficial to society. I suppose my question concerns religion less and the philosophy behind them more... just a passing curiosity."

OOC: Sorry about the wait. I too have reached the point of critical crunchage.

IC:

"It seems that we are on similar ground here; my country is not renown for its piety." Repentant Badger reflected. A UN report had ranked Serpent Country the "Least Devout" in their local region. That initial report had somewhat confused her; Serpent Country certainly had plenty of gods.

Now that she thought of it, it was probably because their government hadn't hired a spiritual advisor. That, and the fact that some of their citizens habitually threw unripe tomatos at missionaries.

I wonder why the meeting was moved up. Repentant Badger thought. However, she didn't ask that question immediately. Instead she wheeled her head toward Styger.

"And what such moral philosophies do the people of your nation ascribe to, Masjon Styger?" Repentant Badger asked, as pleasantly as possible. A good an excuse as any to find out who else I am dealing with...

"Mostly the belief in extending the benefits of family to others," Styger says with a slight smile. "We are all indeed siblings--or at least cousins--on this world and so it is only fitting that a universal familial love be felt to match that. It is our hope to make that bond more apparent than it generally is."

He bows respectfully to their Omni-Psychotian guide. "This is probably where we disagree most--albeit respectfully--with your own national policies."

It is our hope to make that bond more apparent than it generally is."

Sounds pleasant, at least. Repentant Badger wondered. Then again, that didn't necessarily mean it was pleasant. She was still curious.

"Our nations may disagree on some things, my colleagues; but is that not the point of diplomacy? Disagreement is not in itself the worst thing imaginable."

"The point of diplomacy is to smooth out disagreements through convincing argument, equitable compromise, or a mixture of the two," Styger replies smoothly, "the disagreement itself is the source of diplomacy, but hardly its point. It's bad diplomatic policy to try and engender disagreement, no?"

He smiles in his curious serene way. "I do agree, disagreement itself is not the worst thing imaginable. That does not mean that it is necessarily good... although it, like most things, would probably depend on the context."
