The Amarr

ooc: Right, just a bit of backstory on the Amarr, a self introduction, as it were. If the Amarr spark your interest, please do post in this thread so that I may establish some kind of IC relations between us. OOC comments are also welcome, this is a very open thread.
IC (narrative): The Amarr Empire was at one time a formidable force, a great colossus spanning scores of star systems, holding sway over a hundred billion lives. For thousands of years, the Empire flourished, kept on a cumbersome yet stable course of expansion by the two ruling classes, the ancient royal families, and the the Theological Council. However, like all great Empires, it slowly slipped into an irreversable decline caused by political rigidness, decadence, and factionalism. The fall came with the assassination of a recently elected Emperor instrumented by a chief rival family. Never in its history had Amarr seen such a blatant disregard for the most holy of Imperial offices. That act of regicide tore at the very fabric of that carefully woven tapestry of tradition and imperial duty which had kept the Empire strong and stable for so long. Amarr was plunged into a bloody civil war, one which her neighbors took full advantage of. A great coalition of nations decended upon the weakened body of the Empire, and tore into it relentlessly. The royal families settled their issues and made a united stand against the invaders, but it was unfortunatly far too late. Years of civil war had left the Empire all but defenseless.
Twenty years later, the great invasion has come to a final and pitful conclusion for the Amarr. The coalition forces, after conquering nearly the whole of the great imperial territory, have contemptiously agreed to spare the Amarr total annihilation, leaving them with one system on the very fringes of their former Empire to lord over. Today, the "Empire" has hardly 5 million people, one barely inhabitable planet, and hardly a navy to speak of. The royal families and Theological Council, in the absence of a feesable candidate for Emperor, have opted to form from their number an Imperial Directorate representing each faction equally to govern what remains. Though the coffers are empty, the people rebelious, and the homeland lost, they insist on keeping the title "Holy Empire" for their pathetic little excuse of a state. Like the Byzantines of old, trapped inside the walls of Constantinople, the Amarr still dream of one day rising from the ashes to retake what was once theirs. And like the Byzantines, they haven't a chance in hell. Still, as long as there is one man with the name of the Light on his lips, there will remain a glimmer of hope for the fallen Amarr...
