Four Nations Football Invitational II - Info/Scores/RP/Rosters

OOC Background: This is an invitational tournament. It was started circa World Cup 9 by The Belmore Family, comprising of TBF, LE, KP and one nation which I cannot remember... might have been HAS. I'm inviting the rivals of my nation on the pitch (and off). So, ladies and gentlemen, the Four Nations Football Invitational II.

Invited Teams:
Lethislavania [accepted]
Bedistan [accepted]
Starblaydia [acceted]

It is bound to clash with the World Cup qualifiers. However, speaking fluid-time-wise, there is normally a break of two to five weeks between each qualifier. That is when this cup will run, RP-wise. I've decided that it will be home-and-away, twice = 12 matches total per team.

Starblaydia send team to 'Some Tinpot Tourney'
'SDB' and 'Laser' take Command of Starblaydi 'C' Team

There's no denying that, with the majority of Starblaydi talent lining up of the World Cup 21 Qualifiers or preparing for the Seventh AOCAF, Starblaydia are not sending a brilliant team to this competition. The Starblaydia Football Association actually wanted to send the Under-21 team to Liverpool England's latest Tournament but actually found that many of their players had been comandeered by the Senior and AOCAF teams.

So, the SFA called upon two men, Kiiarana City Manager Simeone Di Bradini and SFA Official Nikola Lazerevski, to select an available squad and compete in the second Four Nations Invitational. The squad is as-follows, made up from any play who's old enough and not selected for either of the other teams.

"I'd say our chances are... about the same as the other four teams," Di Bradini said earlier, "we have hardly faced the three of them at any level, so this will be an education for us all. Personally I'm glad that Starblaydia has enough International-Class footballers to make a 'C' team feasible."

With the younger players fresh from yet another Third-Place finsh at the Under-21 World Cup, and the older players still hungry for any kind of International Silverware, Starblaydia will be competing for this Cup as aggressively as any other. Jean-Pierre Durand takes up his usual Captain's armband, while SDB's younger brother Robb returns to International action for the first time since World Cup 20. It must also be noted that between the three goalkeepers, Montieth, Prokopis and Corominas, they own precisely zero caps. Not just Senior Caps, but no Under-12 Caps either. That's right, none of them have ever made an appearance for Starblaydia other than on the bench.

Goings on between the Starblaydi sticks will sure be an interesting place to watch throughout this competition.

Terminators face off against rivals in friendly tournament
Bedistan, Starblaydia and Lethislavania lined up

The Terminators, as Liverpool England are known, will face off against three of the country's rivals (on and off the pitch) in the second Four Nations Invitational tournament.

Liverpool England, the only country among the four to have taken part in the first tournament where they finished second behind The Belmore Family, will be looking for a good result on MD 1 where they will play Starblaydia at home.

Simeone Di Bradini slipped into the back of the courtroom, taking a seat in the back of the public section, trying to be as inconspicuous as possible. Looking for seats, he found none at the front, so decided to remain unseen and chose a seat right at the back, near the aisle. He squezzed past a guard's knees and too a seat next to the uniformed man, who flashed him a cursory glance, more interested in what was taking place up front. The Guard did a double-take.

"You're Simeone Di Bradini! Wow," he whispered, "great to meet you."

"Hi," Simeone nodded.

"I've always wanted to meet you," he continued, "never thought it'd be in a court, though."

"Yeah," the superstar replied, "I'm here to see what's going to happen to Paolo." He gestured up to the front of the court where a tall, grim-faced, shaven-headed and expensively-suited man sat next to his lawyer, seemingly without concern.

"You a good friend of mister Bachchan, then?" the Guard wondered at the connection.

"Oh yes," Simeone replied, "I'm his manager."

"You're taking over Jhanna City?" the Guard said, a little too loudly, causing the people in front to turn round in their seats and hush him to be quiet.

"No," Simeone said, after a short pause, "of course not. I'm his international manager, we've been playing in the Four Nations Invitational."

"The What?"

"You've not heard of it?" Simeone frowned. "It's a Liverpool England scheme to generate interest for another World Cup bid."

"Oh," the Guard said, newly informed, "how are we doing?"

"Not too good."

"Oh." The guard was left for something to say. "Shh, it's starting."

At the head of the courtroom there was a commotion as the Judge arrived. Stepping in from a side-door, he strode into the room with his robes of office billowing behind him. He sat in his seat, which commanded a presence, raised high above the courtroom floor. He sat down and stared out around the courtroom with a menacing glare.

"Court is now in session!" came the cry from one of the officials. "Protectorate versus Paolo Bachchan."

"Be seated," the Judge said, "so, Mister Bachchan - a footballer, no less, how wonderful for you - how do you plead to 'Random Assualt'?"

"Not guilty, my Lord, to the specified charge," Paolo's Lawyer said, remaining standing, "this was a case of 'Assault with Provocation'."

"I asked whether he was guilty or not of the charge," the Judge said, waving his hand dismissively, "I did not ask you to what else he may be admitting guilt. Hold on a moment," the judged stared at the rear of his court, "is that Simeone Di Bradini I see before me in my courtroom?"

Simeone looked rather sheepish as every pair of eyes in the room turned around to look at him. He rasied his hand in a half-wave.

"Yes, my Lord," he said quietly.

"What are you doing here?" The Judge asked another question, in a blatant disregard for protocol, but it was his courtroom, after all. "Come up here, I can barely hear you from back there."

Wondering what he was doing, Simeone got up out of his chair and walked up to the Judge's bench.

"I'm, uh, watching what happens to my player."

"Your player?" The Judge exclaimed, "is he moving to Kiiarana?"

"No, my Lord," Simeone replied, "I'm his International Manager."

"International, eh?" The Jugde stroked his chin. "I haven't read that you're taking over from Guy in the papers."

"No, my Lord," Simeone explained again, "I manage him in the Four Nations Invitational."

"The what?"

"Four Nations Invitational," Simeone repeated, not for the first time since he'd been made 'Manager' of the Starblaydi screw-ups, "A Liverpool England tournament."

"Ha!" The Judge snorted at the mention of Liverpool England. "Which idiot signed you up for that one?" Simeone could only shrug. "So, what do you make of this case before us?"

"Um," Simeone looked around, "we'd just lost two-one at home to the Terminators, that's Liverp-"

"Liverpool England," the Judge interrupted, "yes I know. Carry on."

"Well, the crowd got on his, Paolo's, that is, back about conceeding the penalty that made us lose. After the game a couple of them were still on his back as we got on the team bus, they came over and confronted him, and he ended up decking both of them."

"So you say he assualted them?" The Judge eyed Paolo sternly from high atop his perch.

"Yes, my Lord."

"Was it random, provoked, pre-meditated or accidental?" For anyone who attended this Judge's courtroom with any regularity, the events unfolding presently were nothing new.

"Provoked, I reckon, if you're asking my opinion" Simeone shrugged again.

"Well then," The Judge rubbed his hands together, "Mister Bachchan, I find you guilty of Provoked Assault and order you to serve..." he glanced at Simeone, "six months. Court is over. Next!" He smashed his gavel onto the table and glanced down at Simeone. "Sorry for taking your player away," he said, "but it's his own fault. Next!"

You Win Some, You Lose Some...Badly
Four Nations team not enjoying much success so far
by Remington White

STARBLAYDIA -- Bedistan's team for the Four Nations Invitational Football Tournament is now gearing up for Matchday Six away against the Starblaydi Under-21 team.

What? Yes, I did say Matchday Six. How did it come so soon, you ask? Well, time runs differently in every country. In fact, time in this world is so incredibly strange nobody even tries to think about how it works. Nobody in Bedistan, at least. Thus, I will not attempt to explain it. Just try to wrap your head around the idea.

Now, of course, if we're going into Matchday Six, that must mean that five matches have already been played. Such an astute observation, that. Obviously, your next question will be, "So how did we do?"

Do I really have to answer that?

Seriously, do I?

Slani.

That expresses both my reaction to the question and the answer to the question. Gotta love foreign curse words.

All right, let's start from the top.

Matchday 1: Bedistan 2-1 Lethislavania
Well, at least we started out decently. Bedistan's slightly unusual (by Bedistani standards, that is) 4-1-2-1-2 formation resulted in a lot of pressure on the Lethislavanian central defense, and they capitulated early on to a Kyle Dean goal. By the way, in case you didn't know, our Four Nations team is comprised mainly of World Cup 21 substitutes and a few players that didn't quite make it to the national team proper. Pretty much it's the closest thing to a B-team we've got. Really, Kyle Dean wouldn't have been here at all if it weren't for Alejandro Vantrease creating such a big stink in the Vilitan Stellar Division and stealing his starting slot. Overrated, I tell you.

Where was I?

Oh yes, the Lethislavania match. The problem with the new formation is that it almost wholly abandoned the wings, and the Fighting Green frequently took advantage of that. If it weren't for goalkeeper Rhonda Lewis, we'd have lost that game. Darren Morlock Jr. managed the final goal in the 62nd minute. It is a shame he couldn't be more like his father though. One of the best strikers in the world, and his son barely even makes it onto the bench for the national team. Final score was 2-1 in favor of Bedistan.

Matchday 2: Bedistan 0-1 Liverpool England
This one definitely had people pulling their hair out. After that match in the first round of WC20, the curse was supposed to be over. But noooooo. Once again we manage to rescue defeat from the jaws of victory. I really just can't even comment on this one; it's too painful. Go read some other newspaper if you want to hear about it.

Matchday 3: Bedistan 1-2 Starblaydia U21s
Well, after losing incredible amounts of morale after the LE match, it's no wonder Starblaydia beat us. I mean, come on, we were pretty much reduced to eleven sniveling little pre-teen children, while Starblaydia had...um...teenage children? Well, crap, that argument just fell like a house of cards. If a bunch of Starblaydi high-schoolers can beat the (almost) best Bedistan has to offer in the way of adults, we really are in trouble.

Matchday 4: Lethislavania 1-1 Bedistan
Getting a fresh perspective may have done the team some good. At least we didn't lose this time. But still, it's Lethislavania! Granted, they're not as bad as, say, Commerce Heights, and they are hosting the World Cup, but they're not Audioslavia either! The Bedistani team gets a C+ for this effort.

Matchday 5: Liverpool England 1-1 Bedistan
At least we didn't lose again. Actually, an away draw to our fiercest rivals on the planet really isn't too shabby. We should've beaten 'em seven-nil.

So after five matchdays, we're 1-2-2. Ouch. That looks like a Bedistani team from sixty years ago, not one of today. We're definitely gonna have to step it up if we want to salvage any of our pride. Thankfully, there are still seven matches left, and if we win all of them we might have a chance to finish third out of four.

So tune in to BSTV2 tomorrow at 11am for Starblaydia U21s v Bedistan. Or don't. Depends on your personal torture preferences. Me, I'll be watching some BFL Fourth Division action. Grant City Lions v Williamston FC. Now that's some good football right there.

"We're top of it."

"No shit... really?"

"Yep, top of it."

"Haven't they been screaming 'FIX!'?"

"Not that I know of...."

Liverpool England unbeaten over 5 games
No ****, we're 3-2-0!?

You've read us right, we're 3-2-0 in the Four Nations Invitational (FNI). The series, a twelve-game friendly tournament played-home-and-away, moves into its sixth match tomorrow. Let's take a look back at the Terminators' performance so far, shall we?

Matchday One
Liverpool England 0-0 Starblaydia 'C'
Well, what can we really say? It was a boring game, with hardly any chances, with a boring result. Team morale was quite low after the game; it should have easily been won over a third-string Starblaydi team. Team Rating out of 10: 4

Matchday Two
Bedistan 0 Liverpool England 1
Ah, sweet revenge! The Terminators continued their fantastic winning ways against the Green-Blues, bar a minor defeat in World Cup 20, away from home in Starblaydia.

Liverpool England's Kevin Hargrove, based in Melmond with the Goad Golds, scored the only goal of the match with a well-executed free-kick ten minutes from the end, plunging the stadium into silence but for the cheers of the away fans. Team Rating: 7

Matchday Three
Lethislavania 1 Liverpool England 2
Just what we needed! A second away win on the trot! Team morale rose drastically; some say it was the highest since World Cup 8 (yeah, like real). No matter what the morale in the team camp was, one thing's for sure - the team played well, scored two fabulous goals from volleys, and came away with a great result. Team Rating: 8

Matchday Four
Starblaydia 1 Liverpool England 2
Guess what!?
Did you guess right?
I sure hope you did, 'cos the team secured their third away win consecutively against the C-team of Starblaydia, making up for their earlier performance. Pity tey didnt score more, with that performance they should have. Team Rating: 7

Matchday Five
Liverpool England 1 Bedistan 1
Bah, there goes the chance of 4 wins on the trot. And to draw at home, to Bedistan of all the teams... the team played well but for the defence, the Terminators should have won it. Team Rating: 6

Matchday Six Preview
Home to Lethislavania
The Terminators are without Hargrove; he picked up his fifth booking in as many games against Bedistan and is therefore suspended for the game, which will be a blow to the team. We'll hope for a win, but our mind tells us it's a draw. 0-0.

He sat with his head in his hands, whispering a silent prayer to any deity that might be listening. Around him was the hustle and bustle of his team; jumping around, banging on the walls, yelling or even praying, like himself. He rubbed his face, allowing his skin to come alive with feeling. He looked down at his white clothes, trimmed with purple. A large, unpside-down number Fifteen, etched in purple material, stared back up at him. Next to it was the Starblaydi crest, the golden Eagle's wings proudly displayed.

He drummed his feet on the floor, the moulded-plastic 'blades' rattling against the floor, a much duller sound that those using traditional metal-tipped studs. He looked left and right, seeing his team-mates rising from their bench. He ran his hand over his close-cropped hair and stood, feeling his thighs flex with the minor effort.

A large hand clasped firmly on his shoulder.

"Are you ready," it asked him, "your first starting cap, Dimitri?"

"Yes," he replied, gently, with a soft smile, "I'm ready, Guv."

"Do yourself proud." Dimitri nodded at that

Instinctively, the group of white-shirted men left the dressing room and stepped into the tunnel, lining up beside the eleven men from the nation of Bedistan. They had beaten this foreign team before, of course, just a few short weeks ago. Very little had changed since then for the teams, but for Dimitri, eveything was different.

In those previous weeks, Dimitri had been a green nineteen year-old, just brought on with fifteen minutes to go when Paolo Bachchan's breath was giving out. Now he, Dimitri Steliopolous, would be running out onto the pitch for the beginning of an international match. He knew the Bedistanis were hurt at having been beaten by the Starblaydi 'kids'. Truth be told, this team was the old men and the not-quite-good-enough-yet kids. Were this the full Starblaydi Under-21 team, Dimitri was sure that Starblaydia would be riding high in this tournament. Were Ogunniya, Sodek, Tumunzahar and others here, Starblaydia would be running riot in this Four Nations Invitational. He heard the muffled sound of the Stadium announcer.

"...and, making his first starting appearance for Starblaydia, number fifteen, Dimitrios Steliopolous!"

The crowd cheered at the sound of his name, though that was not uncommon, the fans would cheer each and every one of the names in the Starblaydi line-up today.

Wunderkind Brought into Starblaydi Squad
'We needed another left-footer' said SDB

Fifteen year-old Surachai Buathiang was probably the last name on anyone's lips yesterday except, perhaps, Simeone Di Bradini. With just Dimitrios Steliopolous as the only natural left-footer in the Starblaydi squad thanks to the prison sentence handed down to Paulo Bachchan and an injury to Jack Maxios, something needed to be done.

Everyone was out of ideas, even in the media. There was no available left-midfielder in all of Starblaydia it seemed. Di Bradini didn't have any authority to take players from the World Cup Squad, or even the still in-training AOCAF squad. There was, however, a single ray of hope that he saw, but no-one else could. Surachai Buathiang, a promising youth player with Vilitan side Lonngeylin City, possesses a neat left foot. So, on the advice of one of his many contacts in the Vilitan league (perhaps Carmine Mbidzo, who knows?), he extended an offer to Buathiang to come and join up with his squad and see what he could do.

As a result, Buathiang has been handed the Number 21 shirt in an addition to the twenty-man Starblaydia squad already there. Listed as a Left-sided or Centre Midfielder, Buathiang may even make his debut in the next match against Lethislavania. The Lethislavanians have beaten Starblaydia three times already in this competition, so any points won against the Lethislavanians will be cruicial in overtaking hosts Liverpool England and making it into the Final.

SDB Works the Magic Touch in FNI
Three Wins on the Trot Steers Starblaydia To Final

With two games to go it had been a straight fight between Starblaydia and Liverpool England, sitting just a single point above them in the table. Starblaydia had just beaten the Terminators, and now it was a simple matter of gaining two points more that the Liverpool Englanders to make sure Starblaydia barged their way into their first international final since the Fourth Atlantian Oceania Cup of Association Football.

It began with a Five-One Demolition of Lethislavania, halting the three-game domination of the World Cup 21 hosts over Starblaydia's 'C' team. Five-One, ladies and gents. Roberto Di Bradini, Jakkinho with a pair, substitute Terrenson and Captain Durand. Eat my goal!!

Then, it all came down to the last match. Could Liverpool England beat Lethislavania while Starblaydia lost to Bedistan? Not bloody likely! Surachai Buathiang and Tyree Vang were rampant in the middle of the Bedistani pitch and managed to bag themselves a goal each, which cemented Starblaydia into the lofty Second-Place position and propelled them eloquently into the Second Four Nations Invitational Final against Lethislavania.

Having played four, lost three and won just a solitary match agaisnt the Lethislavanians, it doesn't look especially good for Starblaydia at the minute. 'But!' I hear you cry, isn't this the team that Starblaydia just beat by five goals to one?! Isn't this the team commanded by the legendary Simeone Di Bradini, with the other Di Bradini too? And the two-time World Cup captain Jean-Pierre Durand? It's gonna be a good one...

Campeone! Campeone! Ole Ole Ole!
Starblaydia take only their Second International Title

While everyone else was looking at the World Cup Qualifiers, the 7th Atlantian Oceania Cup of Association Football, or even looking forward to the next round of Under-21 Championships, Simeone Di Bradini and his squad were concentrating on the Four Nations Invitational (number 2).

Hosted by Liverpool England in an attempt to drum up support for their upcoming World Cup 22 hosting bid, Starblaydia were not one of the original nations invited to this competition, but they sure are glad of they R.S.V.P'd now, I'll tell ya. We hand you over to Starblaydia's foremost Commentator, Sven Motsonsson, for the match highlights...

0 Minutes:
"And kick-off here in Liverpool England for the Final of the Four Nations Invitational. Starblaydia World Cup 20 hosts, wearing white, against the red kit of WEorld Cup 21 hosts Lethislavania. The Lethislavanians have won the toss, and are kicking from left to right as we see it. There's not quite a full-house crowd today, with many Liverpool Englanders staying away after their team dropped out of the Final reckoning with just two games to go."

15 Minutes:
"Oh, that's certainly a free kick, Tyree Vang was brought down by the defender with a cynical challenge. That's the kind of challenge I don't like to see, Trefor: Vang was just crossing the half-way line with the ball on a good counter-attack and across came the Lethislavanian and just took him off the ball with a foul.

"Roberto Di Bradini with a long, high kick, into the penalty area. 'Keeper's out, with a punch, oh, and that's come to a Starblaydi player, open goal! With the shot... Its in! Starblaydia take the lead in this Four Nations Final! Dimitrios Steliopolous with the goal! The Lethislavanian goalie attempted the punch through a crowd of players but it fell straight to the Starblaydi left-back who thumped the ball in with a volley. Superb reactions from the number-fifteen and Starblaydia lead One-Nil!"

39 Minutes:
"Here's Buathiang, rampaging, as always, down the left-hand flank. It's incredible to think he's not yet sixteen yeard old, and here he is, proving himself amongst the best in the world. And look! He's past the right-back, into the penalty area, cuts it back, they're queuing up in the middle! Provatiiiiidis! Off the post! And it's in! Jakkinhoooooo! First to the rebound: Two-Nil"

45 Minutes:
"Half-Time here in Liverpool England as Starblaydia have a commanding Two-nil lead with goals from Steliopolous and Jakkinho. Can they hold it in the second half?"

84 Minutes:
"The Starblaydia fans are crying 'ole' with every one of their crisp passes, totally dominant here. And the ironic boos for losing the ball, but wait, here come Lethislavania... It's not over yet! Two-One, they've pulled one back! A great counter-attack left Starblaydia flat-footed and this makes the last minutes ever-more crucial!"

90+2 Minutes:
"There it is! The final whistle! Starblaydia have won! Everybody's on the pitch now, the entire squad and staff. There's Simeone Di Bradini, and just look at his face, he's ecstatic! His first go at International Management and he's given Starblaydia only their second title ever! Superb!

"There it is, Jean-Pierre Durand lifts the Four Nations Invitational Trophy to the delight of everyone in purple and white! And now its in the hands of Jakkinho, officially the most successful Starblaydi player ever with two international winners' medals! Twelve years ago he lifted the AOCAF trophy as a twenty-two year-old, and now he lifts this one, great stuff.

"But, of course, most of the cheers are for this man, the manager, the legend, Simeone Di Bradini. Ho-ho, and listen to the chant: There's only two Di Bradini's', very humourous, Trefor.

"So, from Liverpool England, we wish you a good night, and a good luck in explaining why you're not in work tomorrow. I'm Sven Motsonsson, with Trefor Jones, for SCB:Sports."
