Fmjphoenix gets defeated by reigning champs in first football match

Running back Marcel Smith ran for 148 yards and a touchdown, but two interceptions by Peyton Mcknown cost the Chargers because both led to touchdowns by Funny Looking Island, as Fmjphoenix lost its first game in the NS Bowl, 27-10.

Mcknown threw for 278 yards, but two picks led to two touchdowns by the Islands defense. He also had a 78 yard TD pass to Anquan Fitzgerald negated due to a holding penelty. It was not a good showing in their first game, but there is always next time. More info to come later, as in full team rosters n such.

Title Defence goes as planed

The Colony of Funny Looking Islands began there tilte defence as expected, with a victory over rookie nation Fmyphoneix. Surprisingly though, the rookie nation proved to be quite a handful as the Islanders offence struglled to take complete control as most of Alan Breen's(QB) passes were swated down by a strong Fmyphoneix defence. Breen threw for one touchdown, finding Randels(WR) open in the endzone just before half-time to to put the Islanders ahead.Half-Time:FLI 7-3.
The Island defence came out in force in the second half forcing the QB to throw for two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown by John Feighan(CB) and the other lead for a superb rushing touchdown from Igo Tigo(FB). A late field goal from Richards(K) secured the victory as the Colony of Funny Looking Islands set off to there title defence as expected, with a victory.Full-Time:FLI 27-10 Fmyphoneix.
Head Coach,David Gilmore, was happy with the teams performance, especailly the defences as it showed that the new young team has the same class as the team that won the last NS Bowl. Breen and Randels are two of the only stars still in the team from last time. It looks as if the Islanders might set the pace for the rest of the sides looking to dethrone the favourates.

In a group with two veteran nation the chances of FLP didn't look too good.

A loss to 6th seed Bryn Shander confirmed the fears of the team, that in their first attempt they would drop like a lead balloon. However, they will not give up hope, and when eventually they meet hosts Oliverry, they will go out heads held high.

The highlight of the match was the surprise of every FLP fan in the stadium when FLP hit a touchdown, and then gained the extra point little over a minute into the match, almost solely through the efforts of Damien Benton.

However, after this the team, as the scoreline suggests, kind of went quiet. With Benton being carried from the field shortly after the second half commenced, FLP's hopes are that little bit slimmer.

Two defeats by two veteran nations sealed the fate of the doomed rookies.

They had a good time nonetheless and will back for the next bowl.

It isn't pretty... but we're doing it.

Hockey Canada, rookies at this year's NS Bowl are out to an amazing 2-0 start. It seems that Hockey Canada's wins have been thanks to an amazing performnace by kicker Matt Vanderjagt, who has a 1.000 kick percentage. Quarterback Otto Man who tossed for 1 touchdown in yesterday's game against Hisam. Wide Reciever Bender Rodrigues, who caught Otto Man's touchdown pass against Hisam, and Safety Justin Feznak who ironically completed his own position (got a safety) on a confused play late in the 4th quarter.

Hockey Canada wants to win at least one tournement. Even if it isn't what they're named after. I think Football Canada has a nice ring to it eh?

Tonissia:7 Fmjphoenix:10

This time, when Peyton Mcknown reached back to toss a deep pass, there was no penelty on the play. This time, Mcknown to Anquan Fitzgerald held as it was a 65 yard TD pass, and a great 47 year run bu Marcel Smith that set up the game winning field gold of 47 yards by Mike Mare.

Mcknown threw for 308 yards on 20 of 37 passes with the TD pass to Fitzgerald, and Smith ran for 112 yards to compile back to back 100 yard efforts. Now, fate of Fmjphoenix lies in the hands of the team that beat them, Funny Looking Island. As long as they win against Tonissia, Fmjphoenix is through. All Fmjphoenix fans and players will be hoping for a good game by the defending champs.

Islanders cruise past Tonissia

The Colony of Funny Looking Islands today topped their group by hammering rookie nation Tonissia. Although the Islanders were in a group with two rookie nations many still feel the team has been performing superbly. Head Coach, Conor Gilmore, fears that the team may run into problems when confronted by stronger, more experienced sides. To Gilmores delight though, today also marked the elimination of two potential champions, last years runners-up Adam Island and the only team that beat the Islanders last year, East Lituania. Many Pundits around the globe are now tipping the Islanders to top there group and go on to defend their title. Today was not all good news for Gilmore as veteren quaterback Alan Breen announced that he is to retire after the current season as he feels that "it is time for the team to start building for the future".

Fmjphoenix prepares for next round, looks to continue good play

Fmjphoenix has drawn into the B group of the second round for the NS Bowl, and it looks like it will be a fun but tough group to run with. Here is how it looks:

Group B
1.Fmjphoenix
2.Euroslavia
3.Ratvipa
4.Hockey Canada
5.Sarzonia
6.Oliverry

Although Fmjphoenix does not know any team outside of Sarzonia, and thats only in the soccer sense of football, they think they can perform well. The other team they feel primarily worried about is the hosts, Oliverry. All in all, look for strong play from a fast learning and improving Fmjphoenix football team.

Turori Kicks Bryn Shanders Butt, Vilita falls to Hisam

-------------We don't know what happened or how, but it ended up that Turori kicked Bryn Shander's butt and Vilita lost. Turori was always the better team, for some odd reason, but Vilita had been doing pretty well so many people were expecting them to beat Hisam. It's okay as there are still more games, and Vilita will now focus on the game against Bryn Shander and look to kick those nightbanian butts.

Islanders show Drudia how its done

Yet again, another team fell to the football titan that is the Colony of Funny Looking Islands. This time the victim was in the form of Drudia who fell 16-3 to a highly impressive islanders defence. The Islanders are now unbeaten since the group stages of NS Bowl II over a year ago. Although the Islanders are not scoring much this year they are yet to meet a challange on the pitch as they have beaten off all oposition by over ten points. The Islanders are and have been since the beginning the favourates to go on to win NS Bowl III and defend their title. Without a doubt, the Islanders must be seen as other title hopefuls as the team to beat.

With Fmjphoenix down 3-0 and under a minute left, things looked bad. Marcel Smith had no worries though, as Fmjphoenix made one play that matter. One small hand-off looked like it was not going anywhere, but one stiff arm and 79 yards later, Fmjphoenix was up 7-3 and a interception by Champ Starks sealed a 7-3 victory over Euroslavia.

Peyton Mcknown threw for only 158 yards on 10 for 18 throws, but was not intercepted. Marcel Smith ran for an amazing 197 yards and the lone touchdown of the match. With strong and consistant play from Smith, Fmjphoenix might be able to pull of some unprobable victories. Next, Fmjphoenix has a date with Ratvipa. Look for Fmjphoenix to come out with its offense flying and its defense raging.

Mike Mare provided excellent leg today for Fmjphoenix as he knocked in 4 field goals, 3 of them from over 50 yards, as Fmjphoenix won its second straight by defeating Ratvipa 12-3.

51, 54, 47, 55. Those are the yards that Mare launched his field goals from. When the offense was only supbar, its special teams picked up the slack. Peyton Mcknown threw for under 200 again with only 123 yards, and Marcel Smith only ran for 88 on 24 attempts. It was defense that kept Ratvipa away, as the defense took away three interceptions and two fumble recoverys, that lead to 3 of the four field goals.

With their second win, Fmjphoenix is the top team in Group B. They next prepare to face Hockey Canada, who is fresh off a defeat from Sarzonia. They will be hungry for a win, but Fmjphoenix will be just as hungry as they plan on pounding in with their offense and keeping things good with the defense.

Islanders scrape by

The Islanders did not look themselves today as a last minute touchdown was needed to steal a game which Vilita deserved. The Islanders were not looking good from the start and found it had to get off the mark. The Islanders still went up 2-0 nil though through a safety. Everything went wrong then and Vilita scored two touchdowns to make it 14-2 at half-time. Alan Breen came out in the second half and showed why hes one of the best quater backs around, throwing for 210 yard and two touchdowns in the second half.Full-Time score: Funny Looking Islands 16-14 Vilita. The Islanders only need one more result to secure their place in the quater finals.
Head Coach ,Conor Gilmore, was not happy with the teams display though, saying that "if we had lost that game we could have been in trouble, we have some tough games to play yet and if we want to defend our title we have to win, convincingly, day in day out.

Hockey Canada wants win #2

Hockey Canada's football team is in peril. After a 13-3 loss to Sarzonia, Hockey Canada is tied with 4 other teams in Division B, a downside to this is that they are -4 in point differential. Hockey Canada needs another few wins soon or else there is no telling how good (or abd) they'll do in this next round.

Fmjphoenix will be Hockey Canada's next opponent, 2-0 in this round. But Hockey Canada will try to make them 2-1 as they try to go 2-1 in the tourney.

Duane McKinnon looked up at the scoreboard. 12 - 6. He had just helped silence any hope of a comeback for Sarzonia as he sacked their quarterback for the first safty of his career and ensured Fmjphoenix of advancing to the next round as the Thunder crashed their way over Sarzonia 12-6.

Mike Mare connected on a 49 yard field goal early in the first quarter before Marcel Smith took over. Smith ran for another great game, getting 185 yards on the ground, and another 29 in the air on 26 rushes. His 185 yards rushing was 35 more yards than quarterback Peyton Mcknown thre for. Smith scored the lone touchdown of the game on a 59 yard burst up the middle when he bounced off of a Sarzonian linebacker and was gone in the open field. The defense was unpenitrable today, as Sarzonia managed two long field goals from 48 and 51 yards each, but could not come close to a touchdown.

With their 6th victory in a row, going back to the first round, Fmjphoenix is undefeated in the Group, and now face the host and second in the group, Oliverry. This will be their hardest game since playing the defending champs, Funny Looking Islands, the only team to beat them so far.

Islanders fly through group

The the must now be,without a doubt, the team no-one wants to play. The Islanders flew through the second group phase undefeated, being the only team in the competition to have a 100% win rate. Head Coach, Conor Gilmore, came out and said that "we have done excellent in the copmetition so far but now it is time to really shine. Now is do or die time. If we lose now our record means nothing". Quaterback, Alan Breen, backed up the comments made by Gilmore as he has every entention of his team to win a back-to-back NS Bowl.

Thunder prepare for Turori

This is where it all comes down to. Fmjphoenix, after losing a tough match to Oliverry 12-3, is expecting its high powered defense to come through and bring Fmjphoenix into the finals.

Even though when the team was being drafted, Coach Green had emphisised offense, it has been his defense that has been holding teams.

"I am an offenseive type of coach. Even though our offenes has not been producing at the level I expected, our defense has been supurb. Right now, we are riding our defense. It is my hope that Peyton (Mcknown) will help take the pressure off of the defense with some superior offense." Green commented on the upcoming game.

Sarzonia advances despite 2-3 mark

Despite a 2-3 record during the second round of NS Bowl qualifying that nearly cost Coach Bobby Sanders his job, the Sarzonian gridball team will advance to the quarterfinals where they will face Funny Looking Islands. The Sarzonia Quest advanced thanks to a 43 yard field goal by Nick Novak with time expiring to beat winless Ratvipa 17-14.

"We finally got a chance to play our brand of gridball," Sanders said. The team rushed for a team record 177 yards and only tried six pass attempts. "That's our brand of ball in a nutshell," Sanders said.

The team dominated time of possession, keeping the ball by a near 3-1 margin over hapless Ratvipa. But the Quest will work on preparing for Funny Looking Islands after the 2-3 record that included a loss to Euroslavia that the Quest is still smarting over.

"We've got to put that game and the other games behind us," Sanders said. "We've still got a lot of gridball left to be played."

Euroslavia Advances to Semi-Finals!

After a complete turn around from last season, the Euroslavia Chromas advanced to the semi-finals after a victory over Bryn Shander 10-7. The game remained tied 7-7 for majority of the game, until the beginning of the fourth quarter, when the kicker nailed a 42- yard field goal to boost Euroslavia ahead. The Bryn Shander team attempted to make a comeback throughout the entire fourth quarter, and almost broke through the Chromas defensive line, but they proved themselves worthy by stopping their opponents just short of field goal range.

Oliverry is Euroslavia's opponent in the semi-finals of the NS Bowl. During the season, Euroslavia defeated Oliverry 14-6, so it seems that Oliverry will be looking for revenge the next time they meet...

The defense held their half and Peyton Mcknown finally produced major
input, throwing for 428 yards and two second half touchdowns en route
to a 14-6 victory over Turori.

Turori jumped to an early lead in the first quater by nailing down two field goals from 38 and 43 yards each. After those, Turori was put down flat. The second quarter, Fmjphoenix was threatening, and when it was 4th and 3 on Turori's 21 yard line, they opted to go for the first down, but Marcel Smith was stopped flat.

The third quarter opened up with Fmjphoenix return specialist Xavior Curchill returning the kickoff to the Turori 48. The offense stalled and had to punt, but the defense did not allow any movemenet. The score did not change in the third quarter, with Turori still up 6-0. The fourth quarter started with Fmjphoenix with the ball on their own 18 after another 3 and out by the defense. Mcknown only needed one play to put up something. It was a long 50 yards in the air plus another 32 on the ground as Mcknown connected with Anquan Fitzgerald on the 82 yard touchdown and the PAT put Fmjphoenix up 7-6. Later after the defense's second pick of the day, Mcknown hooked up with Larry Boldin on a 56 yard pass where Boldin tipped the pass over the cornerback to himself and ran into the endzone all alone.

Turori threatened late though, and scored a touchdown on the last play of the game and had a chance to tie it up with a 2-point conversion, but the touchdown was waved off due to offensive pass interference.

Thanks to the PI, it saved Fmjphoenix's great day and ensured a rematch against Funny Looking Island, one of their two defeats in the NS Bowl. The first match was a 27-10 thrashing by FLI, but Fmjphoenix is playing much stronger this time around and looks to possibly upset the defending champions. The defense will be swarming all over to stop down pass. Their Cover 2 defense has produced a lot of turnovers, and they hope that will hold true against the defending champs.

Islanders progress to Semis

The Islanders kept the ball rolling by beating a surprisingly strong Sarizona side 24-17. The teams were neck and neck throughout the game with Sarizona looking to make the upset of the tornement. The Islanders just pulled ahead with 48 seconds to go due to some great vision from Quater back, Alan Breen. Breen, 19 yards from the endzone found the hole in the defence and ran the ball himself. This was an amazing feat for the player as he has always been seen as a pocket QB.The Islanders won by a touchdown in the end and to no-ones surprise, Breen won the MVP.
The Islanders will now take on an improving Fmjphoenix side who the Islanders beat earlier in the competition. Head Coach, Conor Gilmore, said that "this is going to be the toughest game yet. These guys are a very strong side. They have a good defence and a very good offence. Peyton Mcknown is a dangerous QB who we are going to have to watch. Yes, we beat them earlier in the competition but they look like a different, better team now". Many are tipping the game to be a battle of the Quater-backs, Breen vs Mcknown. It looks set to be a great encounter. Don't miss it!
