Hi all! First some background: i'm a long time role-player who's got a yen for geography and history, so naturally this NationStates thing is appealing. I just discovered it recently, however, so i'm obviously a little late into the game. I've spent the past few days reading through the various FAQs and message boards, trying to get a feel for how the game works at a basic level.

Anyhoo, i've currently got two - and you'll pardon me if my terminology is off here - puppet nations (Grosville and Plexogenesis) set up strictly as learning tools. I hope to engage in some light RP once i've inhaled some more information about the nature of the game (and the community) as a whole.

I'm interested in the *idea* of playing a splinter state of an existing Nation. To be precise, i think it would be an interesting activity to RP a new Nation that earns its independance (possibly by force) from a large, well-establised, *pre-existing* Nation. This, of course, would require a Nation to be willing to have a portion, perhaps sizeable, of itself be wrenched away and taken over by somebody else (me).

Is this something that could occur? Are there technical limitations i should be thinking about? Would a respected Nation be willing to engage in this activity? These are the sorts of questions that need answering.

Again, i'm not interested in doing this right away - or necessarily ever - but i would at least like to engage the community on the topic.

The description for that NationStates forum is:
"Where nations come together and discuss matters of varying degrees of importance. [In-character]"

I figured that since i'm clearly OOC, that a post of this nature would have been out of line?

OOps.. i think i'm posting this as my other nation. Oh well.

Both the NationStates and International Incidents forums are permitted to have OOC threads to one degree or another; Gameplay is for game-related things - regions, region invasions, flags, et cetera. The forum titles are, alas, a little inaccurate.

It is however a very interesting idea you have, and I wish you all the best of luck with it.

It could occur. It probably already has, in a way. When nations invade each other, they tend to annex one another. Most revolt or attempt freedom violently, but I'm sure there has been some nation that has used political connections within the mother country to break free. For a small nation, it would be difficult, but it would be interesting.

The only limitations are those that are godmodding. You appear to have RP experience, but I'll go over it anyway. 99999999999999999 n00kz, uber unbeatable armor, 99999999999999999999999999 clone troops, etc. fall under godmodding. Other than that, you can exist anywhere from prehistory to future tech.

Sure, I'm sure someone would.

That is actually a very good idea. I Rp as an Empire encompassing an entire Continent, with several Protectarates, within the Trisagion Commonwealth.

Comparably the Continent is about the size of North and Central America. (I have even thought about using that as a General Template.) BAsically there was this old long gone Nation Called Drakonian Imperium, (Nice guy great RPer as well.) Who was my sister nation. After his deletion, I decided to take on in his Honor, is Population. I.E. The amount of Tersanctans are the Same, but the remainder of the Drakonian Population, with the dissolvement of his Government, Fell under Imperial Rule.So although I am 3.whatever Billion, only half that number in my own little world here are native Tersanctans. The rest are Drakonian.

I'm not saying that you take up the flag for him, but I would be willing to let a sizable portion of land go if you are willing to incorporate certain aspects of the variation throughout my population into yours.
