The Sleeping Giant: Return of the Isles of Wohlstand

Isles of Wohlstand
15-02-2005, 04:27
It had been a long few years since the people of the Isles of Wohlstand truly felt that they were living in a devout nation among the world community. The flag for the longest while was just a flag, nothing special, nothing to really be proud of. This lack of proudness in their nation, their home, was not caused by lack of events in the outside world. Instead, it was caused by the deep isolation of the Isles from the international community. For long that had remained out of sync with the events unfolding outside of their safe borders, deep within the USSR region. Lately, however, their leader had been working to bring the country back up to speed with the events unfolding.

Today was their greatest national holiday, even greater than the holiday of Christmas, which lacked any government funding, due the the government's atheist nature. It was the anniversary of the Isles of Wohlstand, the day that Anthony Moss finally took victory on the steps of the old king's palace. The palace these days was more of a tourist attraction, only visited by the seldom foriegners who only came in every once and awhile, due to the isolation of Wohlstand. This anniversary would serve a greater purpose than before, and it would probably be the largest anniversary the denizens of the Isles would ever see.

In Moss Square, New Anthony, the very capital of the Isles, a large crowd gathered along the sides of the streets. They stood solemnly infront of the large Public Relations Building, where all major events took place. Inside a group of newscasters rushed around, scrambling to organize the building before the arrival of the General.

Meanwhile, blocks away from the square, people began to cheer as the convoy of vehicles left Hessinger's residency. The highly guarded complex was already sorrounded by spectators before the gates even opened. The line of black SUVs, with the national flag painted crisply on their sides, made their way to the PR Building, people cheering happily along the roads.

Moments later, the convoy stopped infront of the PR Building, squads of Rote Garde soldiers stepping from the SUVs to set up a perimeter. Finally, the General emerged from his SUV and rushed inside the towering building, the Rote Garde blocking the entrance after him. Hessinger and a squad of soldiers took the elevator to the balcony floor. The balcony itself was encased in a clear bullet-proof, and practically indestructible, structure.

The patter of the boots of the soldiers could be heard in the building, along the marble floors as Alexei stepped out onto the Balcony. Blocks away, the parade began, the Bundeswehr soldiers marching in the streets with the heavy tanks following them, and various jets streaming through the sky, as well as several low flying attack choppers playing the national anthem from carefully assembled speakers on their side. Hessinger slowly approached the podium and spoke into the many microphones, which all lead to various translators to translate for international transmission.

General Alexei Hessinger sounded crisply as he now spoke...
"My people, my citizens. For the past few years, we have lived as a silent nation, and a sleeping giant in the international community. On this fine anniversary. I, General Alexei Hessinger, would like to declare that we are no longer going to keep ourselves from the international community. We will, and I mean will, flex our might as a nation when we are needed. We will no longer turn a cold shoulder to the opressors of our modern world. And we will become recognized as a nation not to be ignored or plain turned away from. With this, my people, remember that we are the Isles of Wohlstand, and with this, let the celebrations begin!"

Below in the streets, people cheered loudly, the noise being heard throughout the city. A military band played infront of the PR building as the military marched along the streets. General Hessinger made a salute at his podium and waved to his people below. He then smiled down at his people and saluted once more, then stepped down and walked off the balcony. His advisors rushed to him and shaked his hands. He then made his way back inside and took a seat, as well as a drink, listening to the fireworks starting, the people cheering, the band playing, and the military equipment passing by.

Today was a day of change for the Isles. Today was the day that the Isles of Wohlstand returned to the international community.

(OOC: Like Benderland, I too have decided to come back, for the most part. That is all, over and out)
