The purchase of new life

Lyras

In keeping with established Lyran internal policy, the government of the Protectorate, in its capacity as guardian of its citizens on an individual and collective basis, wishes to rid itself of 1,250,000 infants, all under the age of 1 year, that have been deemed unsuitable for training and education.

This may be for any number of reasons, but are primarily linked to physical or percieved mental abnormalities and/or weakness. Lyras has no desire to be burdened by any requirement to support the infirm who cannot contribute to its advancement.

Each child is to be sold to the highest bidder, and the Protectorate seeks no further part in their lives. The sale program will be concluded in 24 hours, and any unsold infants will be handed over the the Lyran Department of Medical Research.

Thank you for your attention

“This is a singularly disgusting idea,” said Luinthelë, grasping the communiqué, and glaring at the ‘man’ opposite her. He took the crumpled paper from her hand, and read it for a moment. “I agree,” he said after a while.

“I suspect we can do something.”

“We can try,” he said, “It raises bile in my throat, but I suppose we ought to make a bid.”

“Giving so much money to such cretins is wrong, I know, but this is our duty,” the elf woman gave a challenging glare, but it proved to be unneccessery.

“Yes, yes it is. I will make an offer. Placement will likely prove a problem though.”

The Empire of the Necrontyr issues a bid of five hundred and one ‘dollars’ per child.

"Selling infants?" the doctor asked, a wicked smirk rising from his lips. His associate nodded, seemingly undisturbed. "Why ever would they want to do that?"

"Too many it seems," the associate replied shrugging his shoulders. The Empire never had a desire to rid itself of citizens. Even the poor and worthless, as these seemed to be, had some purpose in life. There was always some job, some task, that no one wanted to fill.

"Feed them to the dogs," the doctor concluded, sweeping his hand towards the door. This specific doctor was a specialist in genetics, a postition the company valued above most others.

"Excuse me, sir?" the associate asked. They had no dogs.

"You know exactly what I'm talking about," the doctor continued, scowling. "The cost to feed those things...those abombinations...is amazing."

"How then should I reply?"

"Half million a head," the doctor replied. "A bargain considering our exchange rate. Keep on standby too. Be ready to boost it upon my notice...yet I have a strange feeling no serious buyer will outbid us..."

The Emperor has authorized me to pay whatever price is necessary in the event that not all of these children are taken in by another nation. He also sends his formal disapproval of this enormous breach of the sanctity of human life, and announces his intention to refrain from conducting trade agreements with the Lyran Protectorate.

I'm sure there's just a backup in the post office. I hope I won't have to go take the kids that I paid for.

And yes, Sketch...my respect for human life is...um...lacking...]

To all who have placed bids on the infants in question, we thank you. Your interest has been noted, and is appreciated.

Further, the offer of US$500,000 per head by Steel Butterfly has the floor, pending confirmation by the Treasury of the Magisterium of a higher price. Their objections to Lyran internal policy are noted...
