Official Announcement of the United States of Allanea Department of State

As it is well-known, the United States of Allanea is a long-time advocate of free markets – as well as personal freedoms. We have seeked for a long time to promote the spreading of those values as far and wide as possible. This is why we have decide today to create the Allanean Economic Zone, as a non-military way to spread freeedom and economic prosperity throughout the world.

As my first act in the position of Secretary of state, I will now announce the Friedman Economic Accessibility Treaty [FEAT]. It is of no way a military alliance, and is nothing but a method to establish free trade between the various signatories of the treaty, thus promoting international friendship, personal freedom economic freedom and prosperity all over the world.

I would like to conclude this by quote of the great French economist, Frederick Bastiat. ”When goods do not cross borders, soldiers will.”, said that great man. We owe our children peace. Sign FEAT – and do the best for your children.

The Friedman Economic Accessibility Treaty


1. Signature Requirements

a) Free Market: As a minimum, the signatory states must recognise the right of private property on means of production and land. Socialist, geoist, and communist states are not allowed to be part of FEAT.

b)Personal freedom: Nations that entirely prohibit homeschooling, private schooling, ownership of four-wheel-drive vehicles, and consumption of alcohol are not allowed to be part of FEAT.

2.Free Trade:

a)Abolition of Tariffs: All signatories of FEAT will abolish import tariffs on products made in other FEAT member nations.

Abolition of import controls: Efforts will not be made by FEAT members to prohibit imports of items made, or services provided, by other FEAT members, as long as a similar service or product can be legally provided by citizens of the signatory nation.

3. Free Travel

a)Open Borders: Citizens of FEAT signatories will be free to travel between or through other FEAT nations and any document proving one is a citizen of a FEAT-signatory-state.

b)Freedom of Study: Citizens of FEAT signatory-states will be allowed to apply to universities or other educational institutions in any FEAT nation on equal footings with local citizens in terms of admission standards. Payment standards are to be determined by the FEAT nation in question.

c)Freedom to Work Citizens of FEAT nations may be employed at any private institution within FEAT borders on equal footings with local citizens.

4. Warfare

a)Status of FEAT: The FEAT is not a military treaty. Once two FEAT members or more are at war with each other, they may ban the imports of each other’s goods without violating the conditions of this treaty.

5. Resolution of Disputes

a)Establishment of An International Trade Court: The ITC will be situated in Port-Allanea, Allanea, where representatives of three nations – one chosen by the plaintiff, one by the claimant, and one agreed upon by both - will resolve disputes resultant of alleged violation of this treaty. The penalty for not complying with their verdict will be ejection from FEAT.

"Drat." said Prince Karl as he looked over the missives that his secretary had brought him.
"Anything wrong, your Serenity?" he was asked by the young man.
"Oh just that we probably can't sign this treaty of Allanea's."
"Does it have excellent advantages?"
The Minister of Foreign Trade smiled at the young man's callowness. Ah, he'd learn...or sink. "My dear young man, all trade agreements have excellent advantages, especially if they promote trade. But the best thing is that their new Secretary of State has a nice tan and a lovely ass. I'd like to meet her sometime."
"But Serenity, Lavenrunz doesn't conform to some of the standards set." the secretary exclaimed in alarm.
"Hm. We'll see about that. After all, this is a climate of change." said the Prince.
The secretary, who thought it was precisely the opposite, that a conservative government had promised to maintain current national values, decided to say nothing, intimidated by the minister's obvious grasp on the situation.
A little while later, he had received a memo to take to the Chancellor, who reviewed it while eating a lunch of crisp fresh bread and liverwurst with radishes and white wine. The Chancellor following this went through some of his notes with his staff and then headed to the Autumn Palace to brief the sixteen year old Empress Aurora, who was on her way to greet the Queen of Resurgent Dream upon that lady's arrival in Hofburg. And thus a letter was sent.

We find it ironic that you attempt to propose a treaty to the world, while at the same time you are engaged in a war with the Thelasi Star Empire. It seems that you forces are not strong enough to defeat even the forces of one nation, nevermind enforce a court and the abolition of tarrifs.

On a more economic note, the Empire finds it astonishing that a nation would consent to totaly free trade and have their markets swarmed by possibly inferior goods, produced by machine labor, or even slave labor within other nations. As it is, tarrifs are the only way to garentee the balancing of costs, and a level playing field.

Nathan Black yawned as he stretched out on his extra large seat... Which was built to suit his extra large frame. Once upon a time, he had been the first black Admiral (two star), Battle Group Commander and now held the post of Minister of the Military in Adejaani. However, no amount of dieting or exercise could hold back his girth.

Though beneath the steely eyes and deep, resonant voice, Black was the kind of person people loved. He had a deep, genuine care for everyone in the Adejaani military, which was why he was still holding onto this post after all these years and changes in government. Though, he reflected grimly, he was the only person still holding onto his portfolio... Apart from the Intelligence Minister, who'd held her portfolio since the founding of his nation.

The Triumvirate Leadership had already agreed wholeheartedly on joining FEAT and indeed signing at the earliest opportunity... Then Black's role was to normalise relations, however that goes... A Minister of the Military (aka "Defense") being the diplomat. Black chuckled.

In the back, the First Archon snored quietly. As his title suggested, he was part of the Triumvirate Leadership, though no one knew who he was, what he did, or even how he came to power. Hence the massive escort flight to deliver him to sign FEAT, then back home and Black could do his job.

The pilot's voice crackled over the radio that they were on final approach and an attendant gently shook the old man awake, while Black himself tightened the safety belt around his ample belly. Show time.
