Mercitania

Mesopotamia, Mercitania, 1000 hrs
‘Premier, you’re due to start your speech in five minutes.’ The PA looked up from her clipboard and looked at the blue suited man before her.
James Fredrickson, democratically elected premier of Mercitania coughed and smiled.
‘How do I look?’
‘Like a lamb being led to the slaughter.’ Said a deep voice.
‘Kristian? What are you doing here? You were banished!’ James looked confused, his hand reaching for a red button on his desk, before he reached the button he got a blow to the face. The gloved hand still clenched as a fist, the man was in all black, gold buttons adorned the coat, the man’s face was scarred on one cheek, locks of blonde hair hung down underneath the officer’s hat, a few strands lay over his blue eyes.
‘Guards! Guards!’ yelled James as his nose streamed with blood.
‘I don’t think they’ll be doing too much, well, apart from sorting you out.’ a couple of the guards in their blood red ceremonial uniforms had appeared in the room. ‘Take him away.’ Moses Kristian snarled.
The square outside of the great palace suddenly turned dark as a pair of suppressor airships (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v160/Midlonia/Mercitania/suppressor.png) glided gently over it in the sky, in the narrow streets, Desert Rat tanks (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v160/Midlonia/Mercitania/MercMBTmk1.png) and infantry men squeezed their way down the narrow pathways in the city, civilians peering bemused out of their windows as the men, still in desert combat fatigues marched their way in.
Lines of soldiers lined up into the square, Moses stepped up to the podium on the balcony, the microphone whined for a second, the men cheered, then hushed, silence fell upon the square. Only the sounds of the Airship engines ticking over broke the silence.
Then Moses spoke, as he spoke he felt a warmth surge through him.
Yes, God is with me.
‘Citizens of Mercitania!’ he bellowed, it echoed from the loudspeakers on the airships, and on the radios and television sets in every house in the country. ‘Today I bring you tidings of great joy! The shackles of this devil of democracy have been shattered! We, as a nation are free of the works of Satan! We shall return to the true way of life! The way of God.’ his voice seemed to lower and soften on the last exclamation. ‘I, his messenger to you hereby denounce James Fredrickson and call him a son of Satan! James Fredrickson was possessed by a daemon, but fear not! We have overcome his treacherous, corruptive powers. Be not overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good. I have carried out the word of the Lord, and so we shall cry to arms, we shall seek out daemons in our nation, as well as others, and thus we shalt spread the word of the lord.’
The soldiers cheered again, Moses smiled, but then a shell screamed into the square and exploded, sending soldiers and machine in several directions, in several pieces. The Naval Vessel (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v160/Midlonia/Mercitania/Mercnavyship.png) Jehovah had not been sitting idly by in port, and such she had turned her guns onto the city, to quell a usurping foe. Another shell screamed into the square, and smashed into the palace building, sending the Victorian-era marble crashing to the great white floor, Moses dived into the office.
‘Get some guns on that damn ship! And contact Cousin Mathew, We may need help to finish the work of the Lord!’
One of the soldiers nodded and ran out of the office, another shell hit and took another chunk out of the building, Moses turned and ran down to the base of the building, his men had scattered, forcing their way into the buildings around the great white square, their eyes showing fear as the shells continued to scream their way in.
At the edge of the city, on a slight rise several Artillery pieces (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v160/Midlonia/Mercitania/Mercselfproparty.png) had been called up from their holding positions, within moments Moses’ forces were replying in kind to the Vessel Jehovah, after an ferocious hour of exchanging fire, Jehovah’s magazine was hit by a lucky shot, she bucked out of the water with a massive roar, then slammed heavily into the water, she slid slowly beneath the water, before coming to rest on the shallow harbour bottom, her deck under around 6 inches of water, the smoke drifted hazily out over the cityscape.
Moses climbed back up to the podium, a considerable chunk of the balcony was now missing.
‘See the work of the Devil! These so called “protectors” who are supposed to keep you safe! Look at what they have just done, the forces of Satan tried to destroy a building that God himself is proud of, and we, his messengers, have proven to Satan and his forces that we are stronger, that we are unconquerable, and we are his chosen, Heil Victory, Heil God!’ Moses crossed himself, then clenched his fist to his heart, which his supporters and soldiers soon did also, they all cheered, the name of the Lord God and the name of his messenger, Moses Kristian.
