Of Life and Death; Off the Coast of Ilek-Vaad

Somewhere off the Southern Coast of Ilek-Vaad
International Waters, Just

Like a knife through water, the Fredrick State Ship cut quickly through the air toward its destination. Indeed, at a much higher pace than what it would usually run at, the Fredrick arrived earlier than expected. Her weapons, being so close to Vaadian waters were on active service and placed onto standby. With little knowledge of how the Free Republic would respond to such a bold presense, naval forces had to be on the alert. For through the past and present, it could only be deemed that the Free Republic of Ilek-Vaad had become much more of a rogue force rather than a national entity.

With a great vigour, they had been growing steadily in the form of arrogence, meddling one time after another in the affairs of nations not just within the Havenic region, but rather also outside its own geographical and political boundary's. For a time, those of the Blood Dynasty officially, and formally, didnt care. But one by one the foolish rogues of the Free Republic had meddled with a double edged sword in the personal affairs of friends and allies. Not only was he deemed a security risk toward allies also, but rather future Austarian interests. Soon, the Ravenspire would be constructed; only the site required a choice. And such an important project needed much protecting. Already, Vaadian commanders had proven to be dangerous.

And so, as the Fredrick pulled to a halt, and its thrusters lessened to a reduced, more passive state, the gravship hovered slightly above the water's surface before its sensors were officially activated to a full-time service. Yes, this at first would be an intelligence gathering mission, and soon it could be assured of more batallions arriving in the near-future. And as much as they wanted to infinge into Vaadian maritime space, orders were orders. Like a panther lying in wait, so too would the gathering Austarian presense, just on the outskirts or maritime boundaries, in international waters. Just.

The computer console beeped, the Leftenant punched up the alert and quickly scanned the scren with the RASTER satellites thermographic imaging, giving crisp outline of the Grav-Ship. The Leftenant quickly matched the cross section and identified the craft. He clicked the 'alert' button, putting the image on the main screen.

Command General Baibars leaned forward, loking up at the 72" main screen.

"Austar make General Baibars, it is outside of our territory, but lingering sir." The Leftenant explained.

Baibars nodded "We have the Swords in flight already to watch the Hogsweatian/Kriegorgrad conflict, shift a wing to shadow the Austar ship from orbit. Send a message to the Austar ship, a map, show them their position and our territory. Inform them that non-allied waships entering Vaadian waters or space must be escorted or be seized or sunk if they attempt to enter without an escort. Then file the incident and watch it, it's not our concern unless they violate our territory."

The Leftenant nodded and the message was sent. The 'Lightning Strike' squadron of the Sword of Damocles OAV's were alerted.

*****

In orbit, the seven OAV's moved into synchronous orbit, keeping a wary eye on the 'wayward' Grav-ship.

Quite comedious I imagine, thought Commander Saken to himself as he viewed the communication which had just landed into his inbound messages. It seems, those damn Vaadians have the supreme rights to direct us in what we do. Do they take us for fools, who like themselves trample on anyone or anything to gain what they wish to achieve. Truly, that was their greatest error, and we are hardly to do the same...

And all the while the crew inside chuckled at the communications and readings they were recieving, the Fredrick State Ship hovered idly. Yes, they had noticed that they were being watched, for their sensor readings were off the scale, and yet they did nothing. Relaying everything which was being recorded was for the most part, more difficult however. Although the computer systems could achieve perfect communcation with the motherland back home within one tenth of a second, and although it took little if any manpower to do so, this mission was relatively easy. In the meantime, back in the Blood Dynasty, Indigo was being updated by the hour of what the Fredrick had been recording as intelligence. Perhaps it was time to activate the second stage of this operation. And so, he did.

Recorded and Broadcasted Live Across the Globe
A Public Announcement By Lord Indigo Blue of the Austar Union

My friends, allies, and brothers of this world. I come to you in humble greeting, to thank you for all which has been of the past. Truly, till now at least being a co-member of the universal forum has been more than an enjoyable experience. And for that I am grateful. But a time is coming I fear when such peace and enjoyment is disrupted by the arrogent rituals of just some of us. Please, lend an ear and you can be sure that I am of the utmost sincere. And I do apoligise for such a rude awakening to a hidden foe who lurks among us. This foe I can only determine as a clear and present danger to not just his closest neighbours, but also those further within the Havenic region, and outside in the open world.

I have been watching carefully, and examining the recent behaviour of the ruling powers within Ilek-Vaad, and I can only say that increasingly I am troubled. It seems, that although their contribution may appear to be genuine, rather it is more a representation of hidden desire, perhaps of power or an increase of outward influence. Unfortunatly, they choose not to come to such a goal by the means of peace, but rather by becoming the schoolyard bully. Sadly, this of course is at the expense, disruption, and intimdation of others. As such, I can only determine the current regime in the Free Republic as a danger to both my own assets within range of Vaadian guns, a danger to my own friends and allies within the Havenic region, and a danger to the overall regional stability.

Therefore, in an effort to curb such a present and precise threat that exists in this world, and in an effort to be just and fair to even our bitterest foes, we will not take on a strategy to invade Ilek-Vaad and replace the current regime in that nation, but rather to increase our own, personal efforts to discourage the Vaadians in some areas, and encourage them in others. This way, we can prevent open conflict with the Free Republic whilst still making a formidable attempt to curb the threat and risk from the Vaadians. As such, I am now determining, and making it fully clear that the following areas are now to be known as Military Exclusion Zones. Note, these are not to be taken as a blockade at all cost. Closed to all miltary grade craft, except those from the Austar Union, we will keep these areas at a trust level so far. Monitering of these areas will however be existant. [See: attatchment 0001a].

We will fire upon, and reserve the right to against any military grade craft found to be travelling through, or in these defined areas. Please, do not test our capability to defend these areas. As for now, more information will be presented later.

Thankyou, and Goodbye, for now.

OOC: Ilek-Vaad, I will post a map of the exclusion zones a tad later. But for now, just know that a good portion of your maritime borders have been closed off by the exclusion zones. In other words, this limits your to and from travelling capabilities, military wise. Dont expect however, the area blocked to be rediculous, just significant enough as compared to size.

Subject: Exclusion zone

We do not recognize your unilateral declaration of a maritime exclusion zone. We see it as nothing more than a provocative act designed to increase tensions between yourselves and Ilek-Vaad. Perhaps a more wiser course of action on your part needs to be pursued.

We have sent a small expeditionary force to FKC lands legally bought within Haven itself but may need to re-provision in Ilek-Vaad ports. Do not deign to hinder the passage of our ships.

I can understand perfectly fine how you would view the exclusion zone as a measure to attempt raising tensions between myself and the nation of Ilek-Vaad. I cannot always change your views, nor do I want to. What you believe in is of the utmost desision of you, and I do not want to, nor do I have the ability to change that. In the meantime, considering we do have opposing views toward the exclusion zone, please find enclosed within this message a map drawn with several safe passages so that your ships may pass and dock with the Vaadians.

Like I said previously, this is no blockade, and ships are free to come and go as they like, as long as they remain within the boundaries of our temporary zone. Besides, you should have no reason to cut through the zone considering I have purposefully left a larger open space where I know Klatchian craft do use for travel between yourselves and the Free Republic. So in effect, you shouldnt have any need to breach the zone anyway, unless you do take a purposeful detour. But im sure that your diplomats understand that would be suicide in the means of public relation.

In the meantime, the leaders of Ilek-Vaad or even the Klatch are welcome to contact me at any time to discuss the Exclusion Zone. The ball is in their park, and frankly Im sure their smart enough to seek a diplomatic solution rather than any unnessasary provocation. I would also expect the same from you.

The announcement by Lord Indigo was somewhere near the bottom of the pile in the Minister of Foreign Affairs In-Box. Elections had just begun this morning and he was much more interested in watching news coverage of that.

He casually went through his papers and came to Lord Indigo's public announcement. He read it and sipped at his coffee. He looked over to his assistant "Alec, Austar Union?"

Sir Alec shrugged " I believe the Austar Union resides in the region of Tareldanore, a former ally of Edolia , they once were moving to establish a colony in Haven, we of course sent along the usual condemnation of imperialist expansion and stated our disapproval, no further action was taken other than our verbal statement."

The Minister chuckled "Another one of Menelmacar's dogs sniffing around our gate?"

Sir Alec looked thougtful "Possibly."

The Minister nodded and typed an e-mail to Lord Indigo

Lord Indigo, I am not entirely certain what your 'exclusion zone' and naval forces wish to accomplish. Recently the Maritime Treaty of Gerburg was signed by the Organization of Haven States, a treaty intended to protect Regional waters. You are now in those Regional waters. While it is true that they are not the territory of Ilek-Vaad, they are territory of the Region of Haven and all nations in Haven have pledged to keep them open. Warships of nations that do not reside in Haven are restricted from entering Haven Regional waters without express approval of a Haven nation.

It is entirely possible that you have been invited by a Haven nation, if you have, they have broken the Treaty of Gerburg by not notifying us. If you are not invited then you run the risk of intervention of any number of Haven States. We personally will ignore your 'exclusion zone', it is not a legal act in the context of the Region of Haven.

You mention that you wish to find a diplomatic solution to this 'problem'. This 'problem' is entirely of your own making. If you have some issue with the Free Republic, contacting us diplomatically before taking such an action, an action that IS a de facto declaration of war, would have been more appropriate.

I am sending along a synopsis of the situation to the full Republican Council, which will be meeting after elections on Monday. If you wish to send a diplomatic envoy to discuss your 'problem' I would be pleased to discuss the situation.

Until then I can simpy say that your exclusion zone is illegal and in the event you molest, or hold up merchant shipping, and legal movements of any warship of any nation in Haven, I am certain that the Naval Guard will react appropriately to any such acts of piracy.

Once again, I am more than open to receive your envoy to disciss this matter and find a way that we can resolve this without a need for any further hostilities.

Red Jaguar Command met briefly to discuss the 'Austar' situation. Command General Ring started.

"I have completed assessments and contingency plans. First the Austar Union would have to set up an exclusion zone of nearly sixty-four million square miles to affect shipping and our Naval Guard movements. They do not have near enough assets to even set up a zone of one tenth of tyhat size. Any zone they set up would require them to be spread out so thin that it would be laughable.

Second, we have studied the Austar Military and the threat level has been assessed at a threat level of 2 - low to nil. Invading the Free Republic would be absolute suicide for them.

Third, Economic assessments show that the Austar Union spend nineteen trillion less Drachma on military and security than we do and have an economy that is only one third as robust as ours, an invasion lastion over three months, would bankrupt them. Total manpower in the Austar Union is two billion less than waht it is here and tax base and GDP are accordinlgy smaller.

Fourth, Technology wise they have advanced technology , but it is not sufficent to overcome our technological level, their 'Grav-ships' are par for course, large, cumbersome, obsolete. The Thunderhead Type III can slice through them with no issue and no real expectation of loss."

Command General Itzcoatl nodded " If they act militarily then we should act, we should give all options immediately to the Minister of Defence."

The rest agreed and the assessments and plans of action were sent to the Ministry of Defence, for review by the Republican Council.

OOC:

By the map on my 'History' thread, the nearest point betwen Phyrric and Ilek-Vaad is 800 miles. So there are literally some 40,000 miles of coastline and millions of square miles in the surrounding waters and the straits to cover. Even a fleet seting up an exclusion zone to actually effect the Free Republic would HAVE to be set up in their waters, unless you have several thousand naval vessels. Any exclusion zone in the Haven waters, would be merely token at best .

But, you did get their attention ;)

OOC: Actually I was aware that such an exclusion zone would be impossible to properly defend, hence why Indigo stated that it would be based on a trust defense. In otherwords, 'we cant quite defend it, we hope we can trust you'. Unfortunatley it seems we cannot, and I have already defined the cost of war with you and to me, its above my head. Dont worry, im not suicidal ;) Anyhow, a post is coming when I get to work. I really have to get going right now. Will post in a matter of hours :)

Indigo couldnt help but chuckle. This was indeed the response he was expecting, and hoping for. Sure, he could hope that the exclusion zone would be a successful measure, but such an expectation would be far too high and unrealistic. With the knowledge himself that the naval forces in Haven could never hold such an area, especially with the one gravship that existed off the maritime borders of Ilek-Vaad. There was only one advantage though, for it was obvious that the Vaadians were expecting all the fleets to be like this, for the Fredrick was but a relic of the past, and a ship respected by many. For this reason, it was kept into service. Anyhow, even if the gravship fleets were as twice as technological, they wouldnt have the ability to cover such a large area. And from the beginning he was aware. Still, it could be concieved otherwise, but such a thing was unimportant. Now was the time for stage three. And this entailed a letter of excellence.

I am indeed rather impressed at your ability to calculate the odds of a situation. You are very correct in saying that my forces cannot contain such a claim as the Exclusion Zone, and as expected you reacted with a sense of dismay at our claim, and opposition. And as such I believe I can now trust you to at least be reasonable when we meet, talking in diplomacy at the table. Please, I extend an invitation for one of your representatives to meet with me on the Fredrick State Ship just outside your maritime borders. You can be rest assured, I hold no tricks for I am a man with a sense of dignity. Maybe, just maybe we can resolve the greater issue you appear to overlook. This is not about the exclusion zone, nor starting any kind of conflict between the Free Republic and the Blood Dynasty. This is about something greater, which I fear could lead to not just the destruction of Ilek-Vaad, but rather much of the continents of Haven.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs received the missive and smiled at Sir Alec.

"Can't anyone just ever ask to talk Alec?"

Sir Alec shrugged "The big question is who to send?"

The Minister frowned "Not me, I won't have THIS job after Monday, not you, you'll need to be sworn in' he chuckled to Alec "Is The Nackxa back from Marshall Island yet?"

Sir Alec nodded "Yes sir."

The Minister nodded "We'll send him, he's our top man , he's had a vacation in Columbia, let him go."

Sir Alec nodded "I'll let him know.

Sometime Later

Quiet well, the Vaadians had decided to come to the table. Actually, this was somewhat surprising due to their 'want to be hard-ass' approach to politics, or so as it had been fabled. Perhaps the rumours about Vaadian politics were false, and Indigo and his followers were dealing with a 'foe' much different than expected. Anyhow, he always decided to expect the best, for if you expect the best, you will get the best from them. Alexander, loyal disciple of Lord Indigo Blue had been chosen for this special mission. This was at most for him, a test. But for a man of lesser, he would struggle, perhaps become consumed by the very situation and world around him. Such men were disallowed the privilage.

Arriving onto the Fredrick within hours of being notified, he was dressed rather fitting, for his kind. Black jacket wrapped around him so, he definatly looked his part, especially with collar so high upon his neck. Now was a time for waiting, for he had been told that the Vaadian diplomat was already on his way. Messages of arrangement had been sent back and forth, and now was the time for meeting. The tables had been set, the chairs and food laid out. Now all the they needed was Nackxa of Ilek-Vaad.

OOC: Sorry its so brief mate. I couldnt really think of anything much but to just jump ahead to the meeting, so its up to you now :)

The Nachxa's Marathon arrived within a few hours of the initial contact. The sleek black supersonic transport swithced into VTOL mode to make a comfortable landing on the Fredrick. The craft landed gently and after the engines had been powered down the rear ramp deployed.

There were only two men aboard, The Nachxa and his assistant/pilot Jonathon Tocatl. The Nachxa is an older gentleman in his 50's or 60's with long white hair and dark, bronze skin, he wears thick, black wrap around sunglasses that seem to be completely opaqe and hides his eyes entirely. Despite his age he seems physically robust. He is dressed in a midnight blue suit and carries a cane wirh a silver ball on the end of it, he doesen't seem to need it and carries it sometimes and uses it others.

Jonathon Tocatl is in his 40's and in extremely good shape, he has short black hair and dark skin and wears a simple dark grey suit. He does carry a sidearm, but it is not noticeable.

The Nachxa moves quickly forward to introduce himself, smiling easily. "Good evening, I am The Nachxa, Special Envoy to the REpublican Council of Ilek-Vaad. The Minister of Foreign Affairs has briefed me on the situation and I have the full backing of the Republican Council to resolve this issue, if it can be resolved."

Alexander of the Bloody Dynasty stepped forward. They had been standing on the main deck of the Fredrick when their visitors had arrived and landed. Dressed in dark clothing, with a collar as high as his neck, Alexander looked rather like a warrior from the underworld itself. Perhaps rightly so, considering he was. For this mission, he was a diplomat, and the dark rings around his pale eyes meant nothing. For this was a meeting of equals, least thats what it had to be considered as.

Alexander took the hand of The Nachxa firmly into and icy grasp; surley the extreme chill of death must have been travelling up his arm and through-out his mortal body. He smiled with the same amount, the hint of death.

...And I am Alexander of the Bloody Dynasty. I too have the able privilages from larger bodies than myself. I have the full sponsership and supoort of Lord Indigo Blue in these matters. Please, you may take my word as if it is his own.

He looked down at the weapon of which his companion was holding, and smiled just a little revealing the ancient weapons of war, his sharp, knife-like teeth. In the ancient times, his people used them in battle, biting each other to cause what little damage they could. Then came technology, and now they were simply tools to feast on the mortal souls of beings alive. Yes, he was a vampire, yet different from the normal kind. Being a hybrid between vampire, and something else, guns like that which the Vaadian was carrying were rather obsolete. Since death had already passed the Austarians over, it could not come again, and a simple bullet could not destroy their eternal souls. Nothing but a pure, silver blade, could kill and destroy a man or being of this kind. This, is why Alexander was so amused. Anyhow.

Please, come inside below the main deck with us. I would be grateful to be able to give you a tour of the Fredrick. She is one of the oldest warships in our fleet, and we keep her in service considering her pristine condition. That, and her history of fire and blood.

He turned and raised his arm around The Nachxa and his companion, and allowed them to lead into the depths below. Around the three men, Fredrick personell closed around them and escorted them as they walked through the halls of this place. Soon, they would enter a large room filled with exquisite art. That would be the room to talk within. And yet concealed from the outside world, anything could happen. And both The Nachxa and Jonathon Tocatl would be, at the hand of the powers, of darkness.

The Nachxa smiled to Alexander politely, with brilliant white teeth. He did not seem at all disturbed, suprised or put off at all by Alexander's appearance, nor did he seem to notice in the slightest the cold dark energies exuded by Alexander. Calm seemed to eminate from The Nachxa. Mr. Tocatl definently seemed to notice Alexander's strangeness and simply gave a hard, disapproving glare.

The Nachxa nodded as Alexander spoke. "I am glad to hear that you are fully capable of negotiating to end this seemingly artificial crisis."

As Alexander lead the men in, The Nachxa took the lead, quite naturally nodding to the personel that escorted them deeper into the ship, putting his cane under his arm, the silver head prominently ahead of him. Mr. Tocatl simplt followed The Nachxa's lead.

Coming into a large open room, Alexander allowed Nachxa-Itihicoatl to adjust his eyes to the darkness inside. Only candles around the sides provide what flickering light was available. Of course, they could have used the artificial lights which the rest of the ship was used to, but maybe this was simply for the effect. This, held within the cultures of the Dynasty. Decorated with pagen art, it did have a very eerie-dark feel to its energy. And yet it was exquisite, with a hint of silver and gold. On the main wall, beside a large wooden table was the two swords of destiny. On board this ship, it was fabled that these two silver blades would protect the occupants of the vessel.

Pointing both the visitors to their seats, he made sure that they had the most comfortable, and most beautifully carved of them all.

... I am glad you could make it to the Fredrick. Actually, I am honored. Please, you must accept the apoligies of the Dynasty and Indigo for the whole exclusion zone bananza. Actually this was not just of our own as the 'problem' may seem. There is in fact a greater problem which needs to be discussed, and Indigo felt that the exclusion zone was needed to help gain your attention to their greater problem..."

Nachxa-Itihicoatl did seem like a strong man. After reading his personal history, Alexander was unsurprised. He had a strong history in the destiny and past of the Free Republic of Ilek-Vaad. Still, he was not but a mortal. Someone who should be considered an enemy of Alexander. And yet he was not. Having the servants present all men with drinks, Alexander continued.

... I fear sir that the current foriegn policies of Ilek-Vaad could not just be driving your own nation into the ground, but rather also the regional name. Haven, could and will be considered a place of joke, rather than a place of just conflict. It is, infamous. Im sure you dont want Ilek-Vaad to go down in history as a nation of bastards.

Alexander sipped his glass, which was the blood of men, by the way.

Mr. Tocatl had a bit of difficulty in the darkened room, but The Nachxa had no issue and entered right away , the darkness was of no hindrance to him.

"I am very pleased and most gratified by your welcome. No apology is necessary for your actions, there was no harm done."

He pauses and waves off the drink offered, Mr. Tocatl accepts graciously. The Nachxa listened to the second part of Alexanders statement.

"I believe you are right that the Region of Haven is an international joke. Most of our neighbor nations are only interested in exploiting their own populations and each other for personal gain. We have always looked to protect Haven from outsiders and malignant insiders, however we have always been poorly repaid. We are condemned again and again for stepping in and ending invasions and hostilities, even by the nations that we save.

I can assure you that we have no allies and act only in the interest of the People of the Free Republic, and no longer concerned with safeguarding our ungreatful neighbors. We also do not believe in imperial expansion. I do not see how our nations would ever come into conflict, unless your nation plans agressive expansion into Haven at the detriment of the Free Republic.

I also understand that most nations internationally, do not have much respect for the Free Republic, mainly because we are honest, straightforward and stick with our convictions no matter who we must defy."

He pauses and shrugs and smiles

"Oh well. We will always act in the best interest of our People. Quite frankly I am unconcerned with what the international community think about the Free Republic, we do not generally respect the opinion of foreigners who know nothing about us in the first place.

Our foreign policies may change as administrations and conditions change, but as long as foreigners deal aggressively and impudently with us, we shall treat them in kind. I am not at all uncomfortable asserting that to anyone."
Ma-tek
06-02-2005, 20:53
"The Commonality requires that international waters be freed for the passage of all ships, immediately. The contravention of international law - or at worst, commonly accepted international courtesy - is not the correct manner by which to assert displeasure or distaste at the action of another.

"Therefore, our requirement is thus: no vessel be prevented - whether of military nature or not - from entering the so-called and utterly illegal exclusion zones set up at apparent whimsy, and apparently entirely unilaterally, by the Austar Union.

"We are not asking. Those waters, in being international, are as much 'ours' as yours; as much Ilek-Vaad's as yours; as much our allies as yours. By interfering with those waters, and in effect using them as a military staging ground to prevent the free and sovereign movement of the Ilek-Vaad defence forces, the Austar Union is contravening the sovereignty of that state.

"Some might, in fact, term such action an act of terrorism, for it is an attempt to promote fear and use that fear to prevent displeasurable actions. We ask: is the Austar Union a terrorist state?

"Does the Austar Union respect the rule of law, of rational behaviour, of logical and peaceable discourse between nations?

"If it is no to the first and yes to the last, then I am afraid the Austar Union has no choice but to cease activities in the illegal 'exclusion zones' it has set up, and issue an immediate apology to the international community as a whole for this breach of etiquette, and indeed, law.

"If it is yes to the first and no to the last..."

Sitting back into his chair, Indigo had woken not that long previously. And still slightly groggy, he swore that better sleep would be achieved in a new bed. Funnily, his people stopped using coffins once they realised they were simply impracticle. People that believed it was the same since a long time ago were simply blinded by their idiocity. Anyhow, already another message had come in, this time from 1st Ambassador Nejure of Ma-tek. He couldnt help but chuckle at this one before sending the birds flying.

... I am afraid sir that you are rather late. Already we are in private talks with Ilek-Vaad officials regarding the matter, and are withdrawing the exclusion zone anyway. If your intelligence cannot know this, I suggest you go buy a new one, or accept rule from another soveriegn nation, for if you dont know the world around you, how can you comment on it at all? In all, Im telling you to stick your nose where it belongs, not where it doesnt and you wont get burned.

And to the comment about us being a terrorist state? I can honestly say no to that one. We have actually fought against terrorists in the past and been victorious. Now the world is a better place. But then, did you really want to dance with the underworld either?"

Aboard the Fredrick State Ship
Outside Ilek-Vaadian Maritime Waters, Just

Alexander frowned at perhaps the most ignorance he had seen in decades. Not that it was intended to be insulting toward the Vaadians of course, but still the fact remained. If they couldnt see the danger outside, and if he couldnt see that then his nation was destined for self-destruction.

... But if you cannot understand why the internationals are up in arms about what you do, then how can you truly understand the true gravity of the situation. I understand the other side Sir, for I have been on it, not directly to you of course. Do you not consider that the world doesnt welcome input from those who force it? How do you think a blockaid may look against a legal deal? Do you not remember the Etaros incident?

Frankly Sir, I dont like to state the obvious, but there are a lot of people who want Vaadian blood for the simple fact that they meddle way too much. Someday, you will put your finger into too many jars, and find they will close over you. And I know you're smarter and more intelligent than that. And you said yourself, you have no allies. I can grant you one thing. Rest assured, if you could back off your foriegn policy of meddling in others affairs so much, you will have the alliance of the Blood Dynasty of Austar Union...

He paused, allowing the thought to sink in. And in the meantime, Alexander's eyes seemed to darken, for he too had an idea.

... You must understand the possibilities of such a notion. Just imagine, a cooporation between two, two lands diverging into one. Being past the point of death, and living I can tell you this. You could be useful to the underworld, and it could be useful to you. Like a mutual bargain its like, except once the transition has been made, only you reep the benefits...

Indeed, Alexander wasnt just suggesting that the Vaadians sign an alliance with the Blood Dynasty, but rather that they too, like the Austarians, sign into a pact with the underworld that would grant them both eternity, and absolution. Vaadians were warriors at heart, and were worthy of such status. This of course, only if Alexander could have his way with Vaadian policy.

The Nachxa smiles to Alexander

"Ah, but the Etaros incident, is an exception in our foreign policy. We have never, in the history of our nation blocaked another nation. It was simply calculated to force attention to us that we may enter into talks with the Eternal Noldorin Empire , much like your ruse here. That ended very favourably for us. I know it left many with a desire to us suffer, but the putcome of those talk make quite certain that they have no teeth to do so.

This is also why we were so ambivalent about your action. We calculated that you desired the same result here, that we desired from the Etaros incident. There is one exception, while the Noldor are consistantly dismissive of other and must be forced to negotaite, we are not. Had you contacted us before your 'blockade' the result would have been the same.

That rare deployment of our Naval Guard to blockade a foreign coast did exactly what it was designed to do, force the Noldor, who had ignored us, to sit down and sign a very favourable non-aggression pact. Something that we viewed as essential with Menelmacari miliatry bases being built in our region.

So what if we have enemies? Because of our policies 100% of our defensive forces are at home and ready, 100% of our offensive forces are at home and ready. Nations that have the strength capable of attacking us have so many deployments all over the globe that it would be sheer insanity for any of them to consider attack upon the Free Republic. We have a very thick skin, we can survive the words and critiscm.

In time we will move to turn enemies into allies as the oppurtunity presents itself, until then we are perfectly secure."

The Nachxa spoke very confidently , his ddmeanor gave the impression that what he said was the absolute truth and there was no hint of worry or apprehension in his speech.

"I think that you can see that our policies are normally less intrusive than the Etaros incident, I am certain that your intelligence can clearly show that our Retaliatory Guard and Naval Guard have had no combat deployments in years. I doubt any other nation can say the same."

... I am not so sure, replied Alexander frowning. I can see from a simple glance that your hide is thick, but you must understand that the Free Republic is not invincible. Even we who have already experienced the pain of death are not invincible, why all of us have weaknesses, even the eternal...

He took a sip of his glass before continuing. He was somewhat, annoyed, yet calm enough to react reasonable and proper.

... As far as I can see Sir, I am dealing with someone who will not conceed that his policies are not the best for the situation. Whilst you critisize the region for being unstable, you too contribute, and complicate problems even further. Perhaps, if you simply watched events rather than forced your contribument then maybe just maybe the world will not close upon your mortal souls. And sir, there is a difference between your actions with Menelmacar and our actions here.

With the Etaros and Menelmacari situation, the event did not concern you whatsoever. You declared yourselves the police of this region, and if there is anything one dislikes, it is someone who tries to be a hero at the expense of others. Whilst I can understand that perhaps you are thinking of the greater cause, most cannot comprehend such an idea and they only think upon the surface level, issue by issue. You too must make yourself known properly on all levels, otherwise if misunderstood or perhaps hated by billions, surely the Vaadian homeland will one day be but a part of this ocean. Anyhow, you spoke of the Treaty of Gerburg. I can understand why you would leave these waters open, and whilst I am no signatory I do respect the region's want to leave these waters open. However I do view you too, in breach of the treaty, for the actions of the blockaid.

Nevertheless, I am unwilling to force my opinions upon you, and you a free to leave at any given time. You can already consider the exclusion zone dropped, so if you came for simply that I suppose I can expect your leave. But heed my warning friend, the time comes soon when the shadows close around you. Its not a pretty result, and I am more than willing to help a nation from self-destruction. I have already given several options...

"You must have missed what I said earlier. I stated that we have been poorly repaid by our Haven neighbors and would no longer be moving to aid or protecty them. The Free Republic has no interest in policing Haven anymore and we are not going to do it. The Etaros incident had much to do with this. Previous to the incident, the Free Republic was urged by nations in Haven to respond to the 'Menelmacari threat', these nations urged us in private. When we did respond , those nations either said nothing, or publicly condemned the move.

Haven nations, with two or three exceptions cannot be trusted and do not deserve our protection. We will only act when it directly concerns us, though I can forsee many instances where action in OUR region will concern us. The establishing of outside military bases within Haven, will always be a concern to us.

I'm quite sure that if we established military outposts in YOUR region , you would consider it your business?"

He paused

"It is absolutely ignorant for anyone to say that the establishment of Menelmacari military outposts in the region in which we live, was not our business."

Alexander nodded. He was evidently pleased with the outcome of these talks anyway, and wouldnt waste any time attempting to argue over minor facts.

... Well then sir, it seems that we agree in, most points. Perhaps we have different standpoints about previous events, but still, the generalities seem to remain true. We both agree, the Free Republic has no business in other people's issues, and we are glad that you can see that. A different standpoint, but the same resolvement nonetheless. Anyhow I do suppose the issue there has been discussed.

In the meantime, what of my other offer, and I would like to fill you in on one thing also. We too are planning a small military outpost in Haven, I would expect the Free Republic to remain silent on the issue, at least refraining from blockaiding our projects. Could I expect that sir?

"We would have no objections to your nation putting an outpost in Haven, so long your nation does not intend to counter any of the Free Republic's territorial claims or oppose the Free Republic's policies.

We would merely state that we do not approve of such imperial expansion and leave it at that."

The Nachxa smiles

"I am afraid that the Free Republic is not interested in any alliances or any relations with other nations above and beyond trade and social relations. We will sign non-aggression pacts, if it is warranted. Other than that we will provide for ourselves, we do not want to impose on other powers to shoulder our responsibilities."

Alexander's eyes darkened just slightly, yet he remained cheerful toward the Vaadians. Standing to his feet, he extended his hand of friendship, yet not of future protection. Only those who had proven themselves worthy recieved this honor, and quite frank, the Vaadians were far from this.

Very well. It seems that staying here would be, pointless. Already we have established that the Vaadian policies will be of lesser contribution to the world, even if as you state that you have already made such changes yourself. We will be watching very closely your elections and the policies of your new ministers. Until such time when another incident occurs, stay safe and may your lands be blessed..."

He started to leave for the door which was up until now, closed. Turning at the last minute before disappearing, he gave one last remark to the Vaadian.

... My servants will show you to the deck.

The Nachxa shook Alexander's hand.

"Good evening then."
