New Parris Island, off the Allanean shore

The flag waved proudly above the Academy, a modest, yet meaningful banner – a unicorn on a white field, an eternal symbol of unblemished chastity. It hung from a tall spire in front of the main building of the Robert E. Lee Military Academy. In front of the Academy, two groups of children stood, wearing new parade uniforms, boys and girls apart

In front of the two groups, a man paced. He was about fifty-five years old, wearing a shining new uniform. On his chest shone various medals, most of which only the most military-minded of the boys could recognise. By the time this would this over, every single one of them – boys and girls alike – would be capable of reading the meaning of the most obscure of his patches.

He spoke.

”Boys and girls!

Welcome to the Robert Edward Lee Military Academy! Remember this day! Today, this is the last time anybody – and I mean, anybody – refers to you as ‘boys’ or ‘girls’! From now on, you will only refer to yourself as cadets! Let’s try that. CADETS, TEN-HUT!”

The boys and girls – from now, the cadets – stood to attention. Not sharp enough for anything like real soldiers – but they weren’t real soldiers yet. They would be, though.

”AT EASE!

I am Colonel Douglass Weisbrode, Greater Prussian Imperial Guard, Retired. I am the commander of this facility. I am, if you wish to say, a conservative liberal. I believe that a person should be free. Very free, even as the Allaneans are. On the other hand, I believe that a person should restrict himself as he is free.

Remember this, cadets! The price of freedom is responsibility. Once you recognise yourself as a free man – or woman – it merely means that you have laid upon your shoulders a great new task – the task to discover what your moral duty is, and to do your duty – at all costs. At the Robert Edward Lee Military Academy, you will be given the tools to know and do your duty. As the Good Book says, ‘you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free’.

Cadets! The next six years of your life will be hard! Very hard! And in fact, I will make it my personal duty to make your life as hard as I possibly can! You will learn History! French! German! Latin! Marksmanship! Martial Arts! Mathematics! Astronomy! Demolitions! You will study from ten to fourteen hours a day, five days a week!

Life is a battle, cadets. In the powdered rooms of noblemen’s receptions, on the floors of stock market and on the bloodied streets of enemy cities, life is a battle – not just a battle between you and an opponent, but a battle between you and yourself – where you fight yourself to be better. To do what needs to be done. To do your duty. My duty is to assure you are ready for this battle. And I will. ”

A silence hung over the yards as the Colonel spoke his next words:

Cadets! TEN-HUT!

The woman you will see now is Lt. Colonel Martha Von Varnhagen, Imperial Guard, Retired, Commander of the Ladies’ Company! In the future, she will be mostly teaching the female cadets. Today, she will speak to all of you.

At ease.

And again there was silence

The Lieutenant Colonel, dressed in a woman's Imperial Guard uniform, a rare sight indeed, approached the assembled girls.

She looked them over menacingly and then walked forward a few steps, turning her back to them. With back still turned she yelled, "Achtung!"

Turning back around to address the women she began with a vengance, "Cadet's, the world stops here. The outside world...the liberalism and socialism and it's ideas are not welcome on this island. You are a woman, but you are not, I repeat, NOT a feminist! Feminism is modernism and athiesm. Neither of these are welcome. You are expected to do your duty as a woman, yet not succumb to the frailties of women. You will be expected to be at home in a Salon entertaining guests in powdered wigs, and in the smoke and fire of battle. You will have a curriculum which is just as challenging as the men's...if not more so. You will also be expected to take shifts cooking the meals and cleaning the facilities...not as a punishment...but as part of your everyday duties.

You will recall what the Bible says...

1Ti 2:8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
1Ti 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
1Ti 2:10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
1Ti 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
1Ti 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
1Ti 2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
1Ti 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
1Ti 2:15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

Now you will follow the scripture and be proper women. Dress modestly, act modestly, and submitt in silence. You will not be allowed to speak in Chapel as the Bible commands. If you have any question, ask a Chaplain or knowledgable male classmate afterwards.

I have a couple more verses for you.

1Co 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
1Co 11:4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.
1Co 11:5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
1Co 11:6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
1Co 11:7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
1Co 11:8 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man.
1Co 11:9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.

Remember...you were created for man...not man for you. You are to serve in submission. You will wear a headcovering at all times. If you are non religious, some of these rules will not apply to you. However, most of them will as it is part of our strict code of morality. We cannot force you, but we will STRONGLY SUGGEST that you attend chapel every sabbath, be it a Christian Service or a Jewish Shabbos service.

The distance between you and male officers shall not be below 20 inches at any given time. And if any of these officers" she reffered to the men who stood nearby. "Should ever take indecent liberties with you. You are commanded to inform the Chancellor immediately!"

She turned back to the men, "If you are found guilty of rape...you will be shot and buried without a marker. I don't care who your father is or who is in your family. They agreed to this the moment they signed the papers."

She turned back to the females. "That is all. At ease."

As the two officers walked away, a new person entered the scene – an intimidating red-haired man. In his hand, he had a long, thin stick. The cadets didn’t know it was called a swaggard cane. They soon would.

“Cadets! You heard the Lt. Colonel speak about religion and all that.

I am Commandant Likhoy. In my tongue, it means ‘cruel’. I am not cruel. I am honest and just, and you will soon know my justice.

Well, now I will talk to you about the true faith of the military. That is, discipline. She spoke about kitchens – you will all work at the kitchen. I don’t care if your father is the Emperor himself, you will clean dishes. I don’t care if your mother a queen, you will present me with a clean room everyday. Everybody is to clean his bunk.

Now, about headcovers. ALL of you – not just the girls, ALL of you, will wear something on your head. Not because you’re religious – because you’re CADETS! A beret on parade dress. A hat on field dress. If you don’t, better hope the sun on this island will fry you before I get to you – because if I will, you’ll pray to have died of heat exposure. YOU!!!”

He pointed his can at a little freckled girl in the back row. She was shuddering with fear.

”Your beret is not on!”

She shivered. ”I am s-s-sorry, Sir, I didn’t…”

He turned red. ”Don’t say ‘Sorry’! Sorry is for losers! Do better next time! Now drop and give me twenty!”

He continued:

”By tomorrow morning, the academy symbol on your beret will be spit-shined and GLOWING! Your bunks will be made! The floors in your rooms will be so clean you’ll be able to see your ugly mugs reflect in them!”

He swiped his cane through the air so it whistled, and finished:

”Or I , Commandant Likhoy, will make you wish you’ve never been f__king born!”

He suddenly fell silent, drawing a fierce-looking hunting knife:

"Oh, and what the Lt. Colonel said about rape. The bullet-in-the head part is what we tell your parents. If they find out their son was a rapist, they will be too shamed to look for your body - and the truth is if this happens to you, I kill you myself. With this knife. Slowly."

*l'Ecole Militaire; Kaiserstadt, Reichskamphen*

"Attention! Formez vos Battalions!" an immaculately uniformed Colonel marched before the assembled cadets of l'Ecole Militaire, the Royal Military School since 1759. The uniforms had not changed since its inception and all students still wore the plumed tri-corne.

"Students," the instructor said in English, "the Emperor of Greater Prussia and the President of Allanea have spoken with their respective organizations and corporations and created a new military school. The ten best performing students here at l'Ecole will be transferred to this school, the Robert E. Lee Military Academy on New Parris Island. We have contacted the families of those involved and permission has been given all around for these actions. Now, I present to you, the 10 students who shall be recieving this high honour.

The ten students arrayed in even more ostentatious uniforms than their fellow cadets, dressed in Scarlet as opposed to the Royal Blue uniforms the rest of the men sported. They drew their rapiers and saluted the faculty, and then the student body.

Among the ten cadets were two rather important young men. One was Harold Arthur von Oberhausen, the Grandson of the rather famous Arch Duke and Prince George Eugene Leipzig, the second in line to the throne of the Empire, the first being the Emperor's only brother Joseph, a seldom seen or heard from figure.

A man walked across the courtyard, looking at the young cadets. He dress blue uniform was pressed, and a white hat was held under his right arm. His steps were crisp, his walk strong, and his giat powerful. He walked up to the cadets, turned, and walked up to the comandant and lieutenant colonel. "LtCdr. Ryan Clark, Imitora Navy. I'm here to teach survival tactics and martial arts, as requested, as well as a bit of history on the side."

He didn't look like the type to fight, he had short cropped brown hair with speckles of grey comming in, and looked older. He had soft greyish green eyes, the kind that seemed to offer comfort, not intimidation. However, one of his badges, a silver pair of rifles crossed at the reciever, with a skull hanging from a tiny chain less than a half of an inch below, signified he was a member of one of the Imitora Navy's many boarding and interception teams, an elite counter terror unit. Sure, his shirt was decorated by other medals, ribbons, and badges, but that was the most important of them all.

"If you'd like, I can get you both my credentials and anythgin else you need, but I assume you've already seen them. Otherwise you wouldn't have hired me. Would you like me to go ahead and addres the students now? Or would you rather have me wait until later?" he asked, extending his right hand to shake theirs. His grasp was firm, yet not to strong, but reafirming in confidence. He looked over his shoulder at the cadates, and smirked. "Looks like I have something that could become a decent crop." His voice was deep, but more like a father figure deep than a booming boot camp drill instructer deep.

"Yes, that would be fine." the Commandant replied.

Many of the cadets from Reichskamphen had heard of Imitora, a notoriously Catholic nation. They were a little suspicious at first, but only at first of this new presence. As time would progress, he would grow to be an essential figure in the school.

"Excellent," he respond, smiling.

He turned, and looked over the cadets. He let his eyes meet the eyes of every single cadet beofre speaking. "Ladies and Gentlemen, I am LtCdr. Ryan Clark, of the Imitora Navy. You all are very lucky, being offered an expierience like this. Its not every day where you get to expierience training and teaching of several cultures. However, my teachings and training I give you, like all that you will get, will serve a purpose. They will make you stronge, more responseable people. You will be better soldiers for this."

"I know some of you may not know what to expect. In my years as a military man, I have learned that not knowing what to expect is the best thing to know. For the most part, people fear the unknown. However, what I will teach you in the field will teach you not to fear the unknown, but to respect it. However, you will become stronger than it, and you will turn the unknown to your advantage. Socrates was told by the Oracle at Delphi, true wisdom resides in knowing you know nothing."

"I will also be teaching history. However, I will not be teaching contemporary history of the world, no. You can learn that anywhere. I will be teaching you the history of war. Along with my fellow teachers, you will learn the history, and art, of war. Both in practice, and in theory. When you leave this school, you will be trained not only in body, but more importantly, in mind. When my fellow coleauges and I are finished, you will be ready for the real world."

"I will warn you, I am very tough. I will not just give you anything. You can get an excellent grade or fitness report from me if you earn it. I am tough, but fair. I will make you work, but it will be worthwhile, and to your benifit. Ladies and gentlemen, this is your chance to make yourself great, and I hope that you realise this, and take advantage of it." He nodded on the last words, and steped back, allowing the others in the courtyard to speak.
