The Mirfakan government offices reported this morning that Ălfĭn Pĕtrovĭç Koläne, the leader of Merfăk since the Soporökäl Owärpötälos, was found to have died in his sleep overnight of heart failure. Having indicated no successor, Nätäşä Brkăvĭk, the current leader of the Kösäkäl Gĭmĕse Böl, has announced her intention to assume the position of Ălfĭn and appoint a new leader of the KGB. "This is a time for mourning, but also for hope," she said in a televised address to the Merfăkan people at noon today, speaking about the event. "Though a great man has died today, this nation's power rests in the whole, not in the one. We will prevail, just as we have prevailed. It will be my privilige and pleasure to lead the great people of Merfăk."
A funeral service and national day of mourning is expected to occur tomorrow, with a military parade followed by full burial ceremonies for the late Ălfĭn.
