The Recovery ("Open RP")

Omni-Tek Rubi-Ka

Even if the situation on the planet itself had been stabilized, as the Clans had been crushed, there were some... Annoyances. The greatest of them being the fact that all contact to Omni Prime, to ICC and to all of the other hypercorporations had been severed quite some time ago. Even Jobe had become inaccessible. All this had happened because of the great vortex of energy which point of origin was still not exactly known. The most popular theory was that it was caused by something that had happened in Jobe, but no one knew the truth. No one even cared. The Omni-Tek of Rubi-Ka continued expanding on the planet, unchallenged for the first time. The deeper Omni-Tek could root itself onto the planet, the better, was the idea.

The sudden and grave decrease on the need of notum had been a boon of sorts for those on the planet. Much of the mining machinery used on the planet could be relocated and recalibrated for other forms of resources. Same could be done on several refineries as well as factories. All this was for the purpose of making the planet fully self-sufficient. If something broke down, it could be easily fixed locally.

Many years had passed since the destruction of the Clans and the integration of ICC forces into Omni-Tek Rubi-Ka's own military. The terraformation was almost complete. Lush forests teeming with (often quite unlike that found on Earth) wildlife were the norm on a planet that had been a desert planet not so many millennia ago. Only the most northern parts of the planet still were as though barren wasteland. Omni-Tek had spread to practically all parts of the planet, even if it meant having only small amounts of people here and there.

And then what they had been waiting for finally happened.

In any other way, it was just like any other day. What made that one day so monumental was the disappearance of the vortex that had engulfed it decades ago. It was no more just as suddenly as it had come.

There were no ships in orbit. No one was there. Either they had been forgotten, or something had happened.

(OOC: This is a sort of open RP. Omni-Tek and Rubi-Ka are from an MMORPG called Anarchy Online (http://www.anarchy-online.com), to keep records straight. This is simply the first post, and I will continue on and give opportunities for joining in if someone is interested. Note that Rubi-Ka is the only planet under this branch of Omni-Tek's control, and I don't claim controlling the hypercorporation Omni-Tek that is in that game. What I claim is that it doesn't really exist "here". If it did, its corporate headquarters would be somewhere around Jupiter, and that just doesn't work.)

They sent out several of the about dozen space capable ships they had had on the planet ever since the vortex came. Only one of those malfunctioned and was forced to stay grounded until further notice and one of the "spares" were sent instead. Their mission was quite simple: To grant the planet the boon of their advanced sensor arrays. It was pivotal to find out whether or not some corporation or some other entity, hostile or otherwise had a presence in the system itself, so they would know where they stand.

Much to their disappointment and relief, they found nothing. The ships returned to the planet's orbit. They were to remain there until they would be needed once more. Their crews were to use shuttles for re-entry and going back to their ships.

For a few weeks, they just waited, listened to their communications' systems. It was one of those unwritten laws, that even if no one's sending you transmissions, you were bound to catch some. Especially in the age of FTL boosted signals. Not all cared infinitely of their privacy, not all had the equipment to send well encrypted and hidden transmissions.

And just like they had expected, they received some of just those. The problem was that none of them were of known origin. Well, they were often from known systems, but they weren't mostly of corporate origin. Even the few they received that were corporate, weren't from corporations they knew of.

Either the hypercorporations had fallen, or something else was badly wrong. It was one of those situations where all possible outcomes would only be... Less than satisfactory.

The next step was to send ships to explore Sol and Omni Prime, and place the ships that still remained grounded into orbit. Two ships were sent to both locations, one of them filled with enough supplies and spare parts for a rather lengthy stay at the location. It had to be taken into account that there might not be an Omni-Tek presence there, and even if there was a presence of some kind there... It might not be of Omni-Tek, or of ICC, or of any other of the hypercorporations.

As those four ships disappeared into hyperspace and left the system, the last ships still on the ground were sent into orbit, accompanied by a bunch of satellites. Defense platforms, communications platforms, sensor arrays... You name it. Without the energy vortex, the planet was vulnerable to any attack, and they needed the protection. Especially when one considers how valuable the planet itself is. With people on it or not.

(OOC: As said, if anyone's interested, just take part in this. Or TG me and we'll work something out.)

While the expeditions were on their respective ways, the revitalization of planetary production and mining had gotten well under way. Factories, refineries and mines that had been built during the time below the great vortex, but never had they been used, were finally being activated. Since they had prepared somewhat for changes in the corporate climate of the galaxy, even an orbital shipyard had been built and now it was put into place.

Everything was ready for the so called re-emergence of Omni-Tek.
