CoH 12 - RP/Rosters/Scores Thread
Liverpool England
31-01-2005, 12:09
This will be the official RP and Results thread.
The following ground rules will have to be adhered to, if not, a penalty may be enforced.
1. No flaming, unless it is IC banter with the permission of the recipient.
2. Avoid OOCs unless extremely unneccessary.
3. RP is encouraged, but THERE IS NO RP BONUS FOR THIS CUP, as an experiment. However, we do hope you will RP, and have fun. :)
The group draw will be posted here once the invitees are finalised.
With 16 invitees, there will be 4 groups of 4 - two groups in each nation, two stadia for each group.
The teams will remain within one nation until the final/third-fourth playoff.
With that, if you have been invited, you may start posting rosters/RPs

Tides measure hopes, realism in CoH
After a debut World Cup qualifying campaign that saw it finish as the most successful of any unranked team, the Talzeckia Tides colonial side is mixing optimism created from their surprise wins over strong teams with the realism that they still must harbor lower expectations than some clubs.
"We didn't just miss out on the World Cup finals like some of the teams that will be here," Coach Avid Mashoda said. "We were playing for pride with a few matches to go. We're going to face some teams with a lot to prove and we'll have to be ready."
The Tides (4-2-8, 14 points, sixth place in Group 7) had a difficult time scoring goals, but that was to be expected with a new team of guys who hadn't been playing together until training camp. But the team quickly embraced its system of football and began to believe in themselves after they opened the qualifying season with a shocking 1-0 win against Kylaai. The Tides were rewarded for their hard work and their relative success by being ranked 71st in the recent world rankings. But the Tides are unimpressed with the trappings of success.
"That [ranking] doesn't mean a damn thing," defender and team captain Jeff Randle said. "All it means is if some lower-ranked team is playing us, we'll just have a target painted on our backs. We've still got to outwork everyone we play just to have a chance to win a football game."
Tides players said they weren't rooting for colonial masters Sarzonia in the World Cup finals.
"Why would we? We don't like those guys," goalkeeper Nick Reynolds, announced as the starter after World Cup qualifying, said. "We're only going to be focusing on the Cup of Harmony and on our friendly series. We couldn't care less about the Stars."
The Tides also announced the retirement of reserve forward Kevin Brady from international football. Brady, who turned 40 the day after the World Cup qualifying campaign ended, will take a year off and is considering an appointment as the coach of the Under 21 team.
"I've got a lot of ideas for developing football in Talzeckia," Brady said at the press conference announcing his retirement as a player. "Hopefully, I'll be able to put them in place."

Arthur and Robbie relaxed in the Soccer House, the team on vacation. As qualifying had just ended, Manager Heard chose to give his players their standard week off, despite the final day loss to Ianisle, the subject of discussion with the new Executive Director of the LAFC/Soccer Legalese:
Robbie: "We were so close, Arthur. So close! It just hurts to think about it."
Arthur: "I can't fault you for the work you've done here. Trying to keep a program together as executive director of the confederation, not to mention managing the nationals. All that, and you barely get squeezed out of the final. I'm impressed, to say the least. If you're worried about your job there, don't be. You've got the side that will go all the way next time."
Robbie: "I don't know about that yet. We're probably going to lose most, if not the entire squad to age. They've been doing this for ten years now, so the Cup of Harmony will be the swan song for the crew."
Arthur: "Well, that's a tournament you've all done well in. Think you can take it home this time?"
Robbie pondered the question for a moment. His guys had put everything on the line with Ianisle, only to see the loss bump them out of Group 3's final World Cup spot. They'd all be making the trips to South Osettia and Liverpool England, but did they have anything left?
Robbie: "There's only one way to find out, sir. Got the lineup release prepared?"
Arthur: "Annie's working on it as we speak."

Hiiraan. P2G is angry at SO, not me.
You will be, as per request, based in SO, but I will not guarantee that I won't scorinate any of your games (IE, final/third place).
As I have said before, no host should be biased, and I am not, despite our previous conflicts. Similarly, I hope P2G will reconsider. I'll be talking to SO about certain comments made, though.
Please start avoiding OOC, Hiiraan, if you have any questions, please query me on IRC/TeleGram me.

Vikings anxious to start Cup of Harmony, who they will be paired up against
The way the Fmjphoenix Vikings have been practicing, you would think they were working themselves for the World Cup finals. But those who keep track know that the Vikings had a disapointing end to a fruitful qualification run, finishing in fourth place in qualification for the second cup in a row.
"We feel we have a lot to prove to ourselves because we have been underachieving so far. We are becoming a know team and people are beginning to expect big things from us. We just want to show people that we are winners." Coach Wash said to his team during one of their practices.
Right now, the team is practicing twice a day in preperation to head across the region to head to South Osettia or fly out to the Heartland to compete in Liverpool England. Whatever happens, the Vikings are looking to only bring victory to its fans and misery to its opponents.

The CoH Department of the SOFA Headquarters wasn't used too often. When it wasn't in use, it was used as a storeroom - obviously a very large storeroom, but a storeroom nonetheless. This year, however, the CoH Department was busy...busier than normal, at least. Why? Because South Osettia was hosting the tournament, and that meant double the work for all involved, including Toby Kavalar. Toby was not the most important man in the chain, nor was he the least. He lounged somewhere in the middle; comfortable, but still a little stressed.
"Rose, what the hell have you done with my pie!"
Okay, maybe 'a little stressed' was an understatement.
"What pie?" Rose was Toby's assistant, and her fetish for pie was a well-kept secret...so naturally the entire department knew. For this reason, and this reason alone, Rose was Toby's first port of call when he realised his pie was missing.
"I had a piece of pie on my desk, and now it's gone. I'm looking at the crumbs on your desk, and the apple sauce on your face, and I'm kind of getting the vibes that you took it."
"Well, I don't know what you are talking about Tobias." She nonchalantly wiped the crumbs off her desk and the sauce off her face.
"How many times have I told you not to call me that?"
"At least a dozen."
"And how many more times am I going to have to tell you before you listen to me?"
"At least a dozen more." Rose was the bane of Toby's life, and it felt to him as if she had been assigned to him as a cruel joke of some kind. He decided to change the subject.
"Has the group draw been done yet?"
"Yep." A moment of silence followed.
"We...could I...have a copy of it?"
"Sure, I'll just run along to LE and ask for a copy, shall I?"
"How long will that take?"
"At least a week."
"Be my guest, then." A week without Rose would have been like a week in Barbados for Toby, but the likelihood of either happening was about the same. Rose had an annoying habit of never being ill. She put it down to seafood, but Toby put it down to black magic of some kind. Just then, Rose's computer made a noise - something that sounded like a cross between a sheep in labour and a police siren.
"Ooh - I have mail!" A few clicks later, and her face dropped.
"It's for you - the group draw. I thought it'd be something important."
"Like what?"
"Like that recipe I asked about for banana raisin muffins."
"Yes, because that's more important than something to do with our work, isn't it?"
"Hell, yes." Toby shook his head and looked at the printout Rose handed him.
"We're in a group with Kylaai, Kingsford and Talzeckia. We're third best in the group according to the rankings...right, so we're out already then. Let's see who's playing in this country...Tadjikistan, Raptor Claw, Haperd and Royal Engrand...The Weegies, Nonesuch Street, Hiiraan and Spurland. There's some good games in there. I'm looking forward to it. I really want some pie...I'm gonna go get some from the canteen."
"Can you get me some?"
"No."

Tides start with familiar foes
The start of the 12th Cup of Harmony will be eerily similiar to the start of the 20th World Cup that proceeded it for the Talzecki national football team. Their opening opponents will be Kylaai, the same team that welcomed the Tides to the world of international football and saw Talzeckia defeat them 1-0 in front of a disappointed home crowd.
This time, the Tides and Kylaai will play on neutral ground, in Liverpool England. And this time, instead of being football debutants, the Tides will enter with targets painted squarely on their backs.
"We took people by surprise in the World Cup," Tides Coach Avid Mashoda said. "Nobody, ourselves included, knew what we had. Now they do."
What the Tides have is a team that has trouble putting the ball in the back of the net. The Tides had one of the worst goal differentials despite keeping many of their matches competitive thanks to a hard-charging defense. The team's 4-2-8 record in World Cup XX qualifying saw the team earn its first world ranking at 71, much like the Sarzonian national team's 72nd rank after the 16th Cup of Harmony.
Unlike the Stars, who took that momentum and finished just one game away from qualifying for the World Cup Finals, the Tides took their lumps. Unexpectedly, though, the team delivered a few, including a serious dent in the then-eighth ranked Kaze Progressa side, earning a 1-1 draw at Tide Field in Talzeckia City and then a 2-1 win away.
"We worked hard and we'll be fine," Mashoda said. "You don't contend for the World Cup finals overnight."
One thing that will be different for the Tides is the identity of their starting goalkeeper. Nick Reynolds, who won the job during World Cup qualifying, will start.
"Nicky's our best keeper," Mashoda said. "He gives us our best chance to win."
Legalese

Don: Welcome back. For those of you who just joined us, we just witnessed the Cup of Harmony Draw in Liverpool England. Legalese will be headed there, having drawn the top spot in Group 4. But now, I'll send it to Jim Jameson and Max Harrington, who will give you a preview of group play in South Osettia, where groups 1 and 2 will both get their kicks.
Jim: Thank you, Don. Let's take a look at group 1. Tadjikistan leads this group, and the Cup in general, being ranked 23rd in the World. They finished fifth in qualifying, but only after falling a point short of the final qualifier in the group, Turori. Look for the Tadjikistanis to run wild in Group 1.
Max: Not so fast, Jim. While it may be a bit of a struggle for Haperd and Royal Engrand, you can't count out 39th-ranked Raptor Claw. They did have a rough go at it in qualifying, finishing 6th, but I'd be surprised to see it happen again. I have to go with Tadjikistan and Raptor Claw for the group, but poor play by either will give the others a shot at the second spot.
Now, on the other South Osettian group, group 2. This might be the most competitive of the groups from top-to-bottom, but it is also likely the weakest group of the four. This is to mean no disrespect to the sides in group 2, but with The Weegies the top team at 43rd, you have to wonder about this set.
Jim: You have to like these guys, however. If The Weegies beat Squornshelous on the last day there, then we're talking about the Squorns instead. This team will be looking for the big wins here. The real barn-burner should be when they take on Hiiraan. These guys are usually all talk, but not only did they split in qualifying with The Weegies, but they also fell only 2 points out of the final spot in the World Cup. If either slip up, however, look for Spurland to jump into place. They also were oh-so close to getting in, ending even on points with Tadjikistan. Nonesuch Street will continue to be an unknown quantity, I predict.
Max: Well, that does it for now. We'll be back with the Liverpool England groups, and tell you what we think about Legalese's chances of making it out of group 4. We'll send it back to Don Donaldson at the desk.

Tigers in CoH, fans positivly surprised
We all remember Tadjikistans first appearance in the Cup of Harmony, just after WC13. It was a complete disaster, the Tigers managed to win only one match out of five and Michael Frunze, TNFF president said it was the first and last participation in CoH.
But when invited, the TNFF said the trauma had probably dissapeared out of the minds of the fans and players, it was time to get revenge.
But with this decision a new problem arose as Zhenya Luchinsky, the Tadjik coach took a vacation two days after the end of the WC20 qualifications. Frunze could not wait to make the TNFF decision public and dodged questions about who would lead the team. But He could not keep that up for long and called Georgi Zhukov, Tadjikistans last coach. Zhukov refused but no problem, Ion Yakir, a former coach and close friend of Zhukovs was at his place and did not mind leading the team on the Cup of Harmony until Luchinsky came back.

AN: Hey there. Welcome back to Fmjphoenix Sports Tonight. I am still Allen Newhouse.
RC: I guess that means I am still Roger Cedo and we are here to shed a little light into our nations football team, The Vikings, as they prepare for their third entry into the Cup of Harmony.
AN: Thats right. Released from the FALE were the group listings for the 12th installment of this cup. The teams look like a strong group of players overall and I believe this looks like a good challenge for all the teams entered.
RC: Thats right, we have a very highly ranked team in the cup, Tadjikistan, whose rank is 23rd, almost 20 ranks above our own team. The lowest ranked team would be the team from Talzekia, a side on the break from rival Sarzonia, which is ranked 71st.
AN: Well, lets get to the part that everyone is watching us for, where Fmjphoenix has been placed.
RC: Right now, the Vikings have been placed into the last group, which looks like a challenge. On your screen now you should see what it looks like for the Vikings.
Group 4: [Liverpool England]
35 Legalese
42 Fmjphoenix
60 Five Civilized Nations
62 Giant Zucchini
AN: Looks like a rough group indeed. Right now this could be a hard one for Fmjphoenix. Legalese is the only team the Vikings have any expierence with, and that was way back in the very beginning, when the two teams meet in their first international match ever in the Baptism of Fire for World Cup 18. The Vikings came out victorious 3-2. But that was several years ago.
RC: Indeed that was. The Legalese side has improved greatly, as can be seen from the fact that they are ranked 7 spots ahead of us. They are probably the main opposition in front of the Vikings from being in first place, but you can never count out anyone.
AN: No you cannot. The other two teams, Five Civilized Nations were the BoF of World Cup 20 runnerups to co-host of this cup, South Osettia. Therefore, they are a squad that we cannot just discount.
RC: Nor can you discount the rebuilding of Giant Zucchini. There were once a very high team and have come back to the international stage and are obviously going to be hungry for success.
AN: Very valid facts. It does not look easy for Fmjphoenix, but it is not going to be impossible for them either. Our prediction is that the Vikings will at least make it past the group stage. From there its anyones ballgame.
RC: I think they can make it and more. I think this could be a good chance to show people that Fmjphoenix is not just under-performers. This is a great chance for the team to step up their play and show critics just how good they really are.
AN: Well, thats all for now about the Cup of Harmony. Stay tuned for more information.

Don: And we're back, on Soccer Night in Legalese. Jim's here as usual, and we're back with Max Harrington. The Cup of Harmony draw has come and gone, and now let's turn our attention to the teams playing in Liverpool England. Jim, what do you think about group 3?
Jim: Well, it will come down to how much the crowd is behind South Osettia . They may be a little low in the rankings, but with hosting the Cup, you never know what to expect. That said, Kylaai is the class of this group, followed by Kingsford. Look for both to take shots at making the next round. Talzeckia could pull off the improbable run, as exhibited by Legalese in CoH X, as well as the unbelievable streak by Lethislavania in CoH XI, but it's gonna be a tough road for them, yet a beneficial one.
Max: The fun group should be this fourth one. Legalese has a great shot to make it through to the next round, but you can't really count out the others. Fmjphoenix will be a challenge for the Black and Red, but there is room for two in the next round.
Don: Honsetly, we can't really say much about the other two sides. Five Civilized Nations could be poised to make the upset run to the top. Then you have Giant Zucchini, who has been to the top of the world, yet is still running with a relatively new national team program. There's going to be a shocker somewhere in the Cup of Harmony, so it could very well be here.
That will do it for this Cup of Harmony Draw Edition of Soccer Night in Legalese. For Jim, Max, and myself, goodnight from Legalese!

ZUCCHINIS WIN FIRST MATCH OF CUP OF HARMONY
Giant Zucchini came from behind to beat the group's top seed Legalese at Liverpool England and rekindle their hopes of advancing in the Cup of Harmony.
After going behind to Lance Masterson's first-half header, Perles and Kryff were on target following the restart to take what could prove to be three crucial points.
The Zucchinis, though, had almost grabbed an early lead in the eighth minute. The ball broke to Gominsha just inside the box.
His angled drive brought a fine save from Tommy Walters. Sharleston was first to the rebound, but scuffed his shot somewhat, the ball cannoning into the ground and up on to the crossbar before being hacked clear.
Yusebo then drove a low shot just wide from 25 yards after turning sharply to make space for himself in a central position.
However, out of nothing, Legalese were ahead in the 20th minute. Some quick footwork from midfielder Carlos Manachev on the edge of the box saw him get to the by-line and drive the ball across goal, with Mave having to make a timely intervention.
From Manachev's resulting corner, Masterson was given a clear run into the six-yard box, where he powered a header past Oshin from point-blank range.
With 25 minutes gone, Walters took no chances when getting down at his right-hand post to turn Sharleston's low drive from the edge of the box behind for a corner.
Badenfauer was on hand to unceremoniously hack away Julius Crail's low centre into the six-yard box, as Jonny Lambert closed in on goal.
Giant Zucchini would have drawn level in the 33rd minute, but for a fine piece of goalkeeping. Sharleston took the ball into the area and out to the left by-line before pulling it back across the six-yard box.
Perles had timed his run to perfection, only for Walters to somehow make a fantastic block at his feet.
It was then Oshin's chance to take the plaudits. The Zucchini was at full stretch down to his left to tip Frederick Francis' glanced header away following another deep free-kick delivery from Manachev.
Both sides enjoyed spells of decent possession as the interval approached, but neither could find the decisive pass in the final third.
And when Perles did pick out Sharleston a couple of yards outside the Legalese area, the Zucchini midfielder drove a low effort horribly wide.
In the 53rd minute, though, the Zucchinis were denied by the woodwork again. Yusebo fed Kryff into the left side of the penalty box.
Jeremy Reiman resisted the temptation to dive in, which allowed the Zucchini space to drive the ball goalwards.
Walters did not have much time to react, but got the faintest of touches to deflect the ball up on to the crossbar.
The Legalese coach had seen enough of his side being overrun, and brought on Dave Zigands for Oliver Rodd as the hour mark approached.
However, the tactical switch could not prevent Giant Zucchini getting a deserved equaliser in the 61st minute.
Lambert was caught in possession by Yusebo 25 yards out, and he promptly fed Perles.
The striker neatly side-stepped Phil Templar's challenge on the edge of the box, before drilling a left-footed shot past Walters.
Legalese came close to regaining the lead when Oshin could only parry Zigands' angled shot, and Sarnos just got to the loose ball ahead of Manachev.
Francis then did well to cut out Perles cross from the left, but could do little as the Zucchinis took the lead with 12 minutes left.
Gominsha collected the ball around 20 yards out, and carried it on to the edge of the penalty box before slipping a lovely pass inside the full-back for Kryff to run on to and drill low past Walters into the bottom corner.
Even the introduction of striker Xavier Church could not, though, get Legalese back into the game and it was the Zucchinis who, temporarily at least, get the upper hand in the group.
Final Score:
Legalese - 1
Masterson (20)
Giant Zucchini - 2
Perles (61), Kryff (79)

Vikings win first match against FCN, prepare for Giant Zucchini next
With several thousand fans in Liverpool England to support, the Vikings won a hard earned victory over a plesently challenging Five Civilized Nations side 2-1. The other match in the group saw Legalese fall short against Giant Zucchini 2-1.
Fmjphoenix came prepared for anything against a squad they have never played before, and their preperation appeared to help. FCN played a very athletic match, as they kept pace stride-for-stride with Fmjphoenix. In the beginning, it looked like FCN might be able to pull of an upset, as they played hard. They attacked Powel Lamar fast and often within the first 15 minutes, that he was getting a little tired out. Luckily for him, the Vikings trio of Mike Nolan, Larry Brown, and Jorge Mendel went out on the attack after the third save by Lamar. Finally after a five minute run of getting to the FCN's side of the pitch, Nolan fired a shot that was deflected by the goalkeeped, right to Mendel for the first goal of the match at 21 minutes. FCN responed before the end of the first half though, with a late strike in the second minute of time stoppage to tie it at 1 for both.
The second half started out a little flat, as both teams were slow to attack. But around the 78th minute, Fmjphoenix's trio was back on the prowel when Nolan recieved a bullet pass right through a defenders leg and powered it to the net as the goalkeeper could not dive to stop it, and Fmjphoenix went up 2-1. Lamar was able to stop a late rally by FCN and preserved the score 2-1.
Now with the victory, Fmjphoenix is tied with Giant Zucchini, their next opponent, for first in the group. If the Vikings can defeat GZ, they will be garunteed a spot in the next rounds, so you can expect them to come out hard and ready to perform and prodce to make fans and themselves happy.

Spurland Draw First Group Game
Spurland came from behind twice to claim a point in the first round of group games. John McCaig scored twice for The Weegies, each at the start of either half. Spurlands Tokai Hashish scored against the run of play late in the first half, and again minutes before the final whistle to deny all three points for The Weegies.
"In all honesty, they deserved to win that one, we really stole a point, they played some good football and were very unlucky," admitted Spurland manager Morzaria, "Since there were no injuries today, and since we didnt play all that badly, we should start with the same line-up against Nonesuch Street. But for tonight lets go check out those South Osettian night clubs."

Nonesuch Back To Normal
Lose To Hiiraan, Highsenburg Takes Blame
In a closely fought game in Ts'khinvali, the Hiiraanians pulled off a good 2-0 win over Nonesuch Street. The match was marred by rain and a soggy pitch, and the technical play of the Nonesuch players never really got underway. Despite that, Nonesuch were close to winning the game for 85 minutes, Hiiraan having taken the lead after 17 minutes from a dubiously given penalty, which Xaashi converted easily.
On the stroke of half-time, de Slah crossed in a ball that could easily have given the equaliser, but MacSwell was inaccurate and headed the ball over the bar. Coach Nieuw Tonne was furious with the players at the break, but still urged them to play positively and never give up. In the end, that became too attacking for Nonesuch, neglecting the defence - and Abiqaadir Ahmed Umar broke through the almost empty central defense and then tried to lob Highsenburg. The lob was successful - despite being only a few centimetres over the keeper's head - as Highsenburg somehow managed to lose grip of the ball and fumble it into his own net. 0-2 and a disappointing start for Nonesuch, who have now got to win at least one of their two remaining games against Spurland or The Weegies.

Things were well in the CoH Department...well...almost.
"Rose! I can't believe you ate my pie again! You always say you're not hungry, and then you go and eat my food anyway!"
"I've been your assistant for five years now, Toby, surely you've learnt that by now."
"You know what, I'm just gonna buy you a muffin every time I go out from now on."
"Well make sure it's not blueberry - I hate blueberry."
"And I'll make sure that all the muffins and pie I buy for myself are blueberry."
"You know I'm just going to eat it anyway."
"Why?"
"Because it's yours and it annoys you so much."
"Why don't I ever fire you?"
"Because without me you'd fall into a chasm of idleness and lose your way in the jungle that is CoH football."
"...Exactly...I think. Where's the latest scores?" Rose pulled a sheet of paper from her printer.
"This came through earlier today. It's not good news."
"Is it ever?" Toby read and re-read the memo before screwing it up and aiming at the bin. It missed.
"We drew with Kingsford and lost to kylaai - that's not so bad. One point from the two teams above us in the rankings isn't bad at all." Rose pulled another sheet of paper from the printer.
"This came through about the same time. It's also not good news."
"Do you read all my correspondence?"
"That's my job, isn't it?"
"No!"
"I'll add it on later." Toby read and re-read the memo before screwing it up and aiming at the bin. It missed again.
"Why is it that the teams ranked below us seem to do better than us?"
"I don't know,Toby."
"Talzeckia beat Kingsford and lose to Kylaai. They're second whilst we're fourth on goals scored. How do we get out of this situation?"
"We need to beat Talzeckia and hope that Kylaai don't lose to Kingsford."
"And what's likely to happen?"
"We'll lose to Talzeckia and Kingsford will beat Kylaai."
"Exactly. Just once...it would be nice to have a little bit of luck instead of everybody around us getting it, you know, Rose?"
"I know, Toby."
"You're just mocking me, aren't you, Rose."
"I am, Toby."
"Do you think we'll finish last?" Rose spun on her spinny-chair to face Toby and took a deep breath.
"Well, Talzeckia have had their bit of good luck, but scientific study says that when a team is in desparate need of points, the luck goes the other way, so it's likely that Talzeckia will gain a disproportionate amount of luck and thus stop us from winning. Kylaai meanwhile are on course for full points. But scientific study once again says that after winning two games a team usually draws the third, so I say Kylaai will draw with Kingsford. In my opinion, we'll finish bottom, because nobody likes us and nobody wants us to win."
"And that has what reckoning?"
"When opinion is against you, two things can happen. One, the team gets a new determination to win and show the critics that they're wrong. Two, the team lapses into an inferiority complex and don't play to their ability. Research on our team suggest the latter, and so because nobody likes us and nobody wants us to win, we won't."
"Right. Where do you get all this from?"
"Google.com."
"Okay...I'm gonna get some pie."

Tadjiks draw, coach blamed
"What the... aah i just got here and i'm already bad" is what Ion Yakir, interim coach of the Tadjikistan Tigers said when confronted with the title of this post. But we shouldnt be too harsh in our judgement, Yakirs last match as coach was ages ago and football changes every day. Michael Frunze, TNFF president gave him the benefit of the doubt and told me he would let him coach the team for the second match. For the third match, the Tigers arranged Luchinsky who is coming back early from his holiday.
"It wasnt that bad" team captain Daniel Kirponos said "we made a crucial error in the 40th minute and let the Engrandians come through our centre, our defence almost collapsed there and altough he tried, Alekseev couldnt stop that shot. fortunatly we had Ter Gasparian on our side, who brought us back in the match with a good move and goal from the left flank. We still have to games to set the record straight and qualify for the next round, i'm sure we will do better."

The 'Forgive Yakir' Campaign
"Now thats one hell of a good title" Yakir commented on my article "Its a good way to end my carreer as coach of the national team, with a win!". Oh yes The Tadjik Tigers won from the 56th ranked Haperd Vulcans with 1-0, the smallest possible difference, through a goal from midfielder Zaev, enough to push the Tadjiks to the top of their group and close to qualification. The reporters and experts that blamed Yakir for his draw in the first match forgave him his bad start and Yakirs reputation as footballexpert has been restored, putting him next to Triandafillov and Isserson in the list of great Tadjik coaches.
Zhenya Luchinsky, now that he finally arrived to lead the Tigers again, assessed the situation "A draw with Raptor Claw is enough to qualify but we should hope to win our game! Its the best way to get rid of our reputation of failures that the World Cup brought us. what happens after the coming match is not important right now."
Michael Frunze, TNFF president said "Its too bad we lost our first match, but everything is still possible. I hope we can prove to the world that we really belong at the top, it is not only important for the National team but also for Tadjik football as a whole."

Tides split first two, in position to qualify
For Coach Avid Mashoda and the Talzecki national football team, being in this position with one match to go was supposed to be a bit of a stretch. Despite the team's dramatic surge from an unranked newcomer to international football to the 71st ranked team in the world, Talzeckia was the lowest ranked team in the Cup of Harmony.
However, the Tides earned a 2-1 win over Kingsford and put it in a favourable position to qualify for the knockout stages. If the Tides win, they're in. If Talzeckia loses, they're eliminated and the final berth is between co-hosts South Osettia and Kingsford. If the match ends in a draw and Kingsford defeats Kylaai, South Osettia is eliminated and tiebreakers determine the winner of the second berth.
"We're trying not to think about the tiebreakers and who needs to do what," Coach Avid Mashoda said. "If we win, it's elementary."
The Tides lost the first match of the tournament to Kylaai, which marked the first time a team representing either Sarzonia or Talzeckia lost to Kylaai since the Stars made their international debut. Mashoda dismissed talk of that, saying "everyone beats their bogeyman once in a while."
Goalkeeper Nick Reynolds made seven saves combined in the two matches, with five of them coming in the match against Kingsford. He credited the team's improvement defensively with his improved play.
"They're making it a lot easier on me up front," Reynolds said. "It bodes well for us for the next World Cup."
All of a sudden, the team everyone expected to be the minnows of the World Cup in their debut campaign are looking toward being a good footballing team sooner rather than later. Most observers credit Mashoda with that, citing his exacting training methods and his precise system of play, but Mashoda credits the players.
"The players make or break you. I just try to guide them."
HIIRAAN COMES OUT THE WINNER TWICE.
The Hiiraan Men, Fresh out of the World cup comepetation have now qualified, while the U21s have went to the wuaterfinals, the main team qualified with two straight wins, making us a perfect 6 team, in other words we have six points.
The last team we faced, The weegies, which we are now 2-1( 2 hiiraan wins. i weegie win), Hiiraan won twice against them. now the team goes to Spurland, the number two team in the group, like the rest, we hope to win this game.

Vikings win second in a row, set sights on Legalese
Powel Lamar earned his first clean sheet and Larry Brown scored his first goal in the cup as the Vikings rolled to their second straight victory and moved a little closer to moving on to the next round with a 1-0 win over Giant Zucchini.
In a match of unbeatens in the group, you would expect nothing but a good match. Well, this was not a dissapointment, as both teams came out with fire out their mouths and ready to go. Giant Zucchini went on an early attack trying to catch Fmjphoenix off guard, but they did not expect iron playing from Lamar. A shot by Perles was deflected right back to him, which he promptly put back to Lamar, but it was again deflected by Lamar, this time to Yusebo, whose shot was caught by Lamar. For the next 20 minutes, both squards ran all over the whole pitch, chasing the ball and not letting each other get a decent shot off. Neither team took a shot that was in any danger of getting a score. Finaly, after a hard shot from Mike Nolan that goalkeeper Oshin managed to catch, the Zucchini's were back on the prowel. 10 minutes and two more saves later, Larry Brown was hit hard by defender Mave, and recieved a penelty kick that he sent home to put the Vikings up 1-0 at 44 minutes. At the end of the half, the sides went in with the Vikings feeling supremly confident.
The sides came out to start the second half, and Giatn Zucchini looked revitalized and ready to go. Yusebo kicked a shot seemingly as hard as he could kick, but Lamar still held on and caught it, even though it dropped him hard to the ground. Again, there was a good 20 minutes or so of both sides scrambling all over the pitch for position to put something in, but nothing was going good for either of them. As the match went into time stoppage, Giant Zucchini gathered themselves, and went for a final attack to try and salvage a draw from the match. A final, hard hit shot from Perles saw Giant Zucchini drop to their knees as a diving Powel Lamar made an amazing stop with one hand as he pulled it into his body. With the amazing stop, the Vikings won their second match in a row!
With the victory, Fmjphoenix moved into first place in the group all by itself. But is has not secured qualification because Legalese returned to its winning and defeated Five Civilized Nations 1-0 as well. With that victory, both Legalese and Giant Zucchini are tied for the final qualification spot, and even Five Civilized Nations are still not out of the picture, as a loss by Legalese and their victory over Giant Zucchini could see them through. Right now, the Vikings need at least a draw with Legalese to garuntee their qualification. Right now, the Vikings are getting themselved physically and mentally prepared for their rematch with Legalese from back in the beginning Baptism of Fire of WC18. This should be a good match, and one the Vikings will go all out for.

The CoH was only three days old, and already it seemed as if South Osettia was going home early. Toby was, therefore, in a bad mood, as was shown by the number of plates of pie on his desk: fourteen.
"I've got some more pie!"
Make that fifteen.
"Toby, we don't even know if we're out yet - you don't have to go into uber-pie mode just yet."
"It's called preparation. I don't want to have to go back and forth to get pie when I could just get it all now and eat it straight away."
"So what happens if we win?"
"We can have a pie party."
"Can I come?"
"No. When I said party, I meant a one-man...thing."
Quack!
Rose turned to her computer and clicked onto her e-mail.
"I see you finally changed that noise then."
"Yep!"
"Couldn't you have changed it to something...well...normal, instead of a duck quacking?"
"I could have, but...nah."
"Fair enough." Rose clicked and the printer started to work. She pulled the sheet out out the receptacle and handed it to Toby. He read and re-read it before screwing it up and aiming at the bin. It missed.
"Okay, so we beat Talzeckia 1-0. That's good, but we're not out of the woods just yet. We need Kylaai not to lose to Kingsford."
Quack
Rose clicked and the printer started to work. She pulled the sheet out out the receptacle and handed it to Toby. He read and re-read it before screwing it up and aiming at the bin. It missed.
"You know, there's only one line of writing on each sheet you give me - that's a bit of a waste of paper, isn't it?"
"I don't like trees."
"Why?"
"Bad experience as a child. I ran into one and broke my nose."
"Right...I won't say how easily that could have been avoided by you watching where you were going...whoops, too late!"
"Can we change the subject please! How did Kylaai do?"
"It was 2-2."
"So that means..?"
"We're through!"
"Yay! Can I come to the pie party now?"
"Er, no."
Quack!
"What's that?"
"Ooh...hmm...no, my psychic powers are failing me. I guess I'll have to open it and find out." Rose opened the file.
"We're playing Legalese in the next round."
"So..."
"Yeah, we're basically screwed."
"Okay...I gonna sink into uber-pie mode now."
"Okay."

Economical victory over Claws
With Luchinsky at the helm the Tigers met Raptor Claw, the strongest side in the group after the Tadjiks. Yes, The Tadjik Tigers have bigger claws and they showed it today.
The Tigers knew a difficult start and had some trouble getting the upperhand, but that was not the teams fault. they had to play in a different system for 2 games under Yakir and now they are back to their regular organization since Luchinsky's appointment as coach. Because of this the defence made some mistakes that almost destroyed their chances of winning, Raptorian Maki Narun got made good use of a misunderstanding between Oborin and Nazirov in the 28th minute, fortunatly for them, Alsekeev stopped the shot with his right hand. Five minutes later the Raptorians made their second appearance in the Tadjik sixteen with Imat Arget and Runni Nondaside on the left flank. Lavrinovich persued the attackers and stopped them in time, tackling Arget and moved down the left flank. But his shot on the box bounced of the top bar.
The Second half of the match was marked by Tadjik dominance, the team was finally working with their original tactics and their recuperation improved aswell as the passes. The defence kept Alekseev unemployed, we must say; almost unemployed. The Raptorians made another move on the Tadjik box in the 60th minute and a short offensive at the end of the match, but there was nothing the Tadjiks couldnt stop. The reason for the Raptorian offensive can be found in the 69th minute. Zarakovsky dropped a cornershot in the pack that had formed in front of the Raptorian box, Raptorian 'Distractor' Kleyou kicked the ball away only to be picked up by Alekseev, who drove it into the right corner of the Raptorian goal. The Tigers won with 1-0, a goal made by the keeper, that was certainly new.
Alekseev astonished himself "I followed the others but remained on the background, the defenders were doing a good job and i thought i could do more for the team there. All of a sudden I saw the ball coming my way. I controlled it with the chest and kicked as hard as i could. I couldnt believe my eyes, i thought i was dreaming until i saw my name show up on the scoreboard. It is certainly one match I will never forget."
Neither will the Tigers ,winners in their group and on to the quarter finals, where they go up against Nonesuch Street, second in group B with four points and a 1-1-1 record. The Tadjiks are favorite, but Nonesuch Street has an advantage there. Luchinsky explained "As underdog, noone expects you to win. We've been in that same situation; If you lose then there's no problem because thats what everyone expected, If you win then you'll be a revelation for defeating a stronger team. In other words: they are not under any pressure to win, we are!"

Kylaai have not lost and try to win the Cup of Harmony again for the second time. The first time it was snub nose 38 that kylaai beat the to win the cup of harmony. Kylaai have won the games in the first round against South Osettia and Talzeckia. Kylaai played Talzeckia in world cup 20 qualifies and because of talzekia who beat kylaai it was Kylaai in the cup of harmony again.
We hate Talzekia and we are happy they have lost to us in the cup of harmony. They are nothing to us. South Osettia will also be playing still in the cup of harmony but Kylaai has won over them so we can do it again. Kylaai hope very much to be once again champion of the Cup of Harmony.
The final game against Kingsford was important not to lose so Kylaai finished in first place. If you look at the final result Kylaai was only team to have more goals scored than not scored so this is very good for Kylaai.
Kylaai next will paly fmjphoenix and it will be very tough but Kylaai will play hard and Rising Sun will score goals to give Kylaai the next round in the cup of harmony.

Legalese earns revenge for past, both teams still go to quarter-finals
In some very good play, the team in red and black from Legalese gave Fmjphoenix a hard time and harrased them with legality problems with a earned 2-0 victory over the Vikings. Legalese's victory gave them a tie with Fmjphoenix for the top record, but gains first seed on goal difference.
With Powell Lamar out for the match due to flu-life symptems, Adam Larouse started a match for the first time since world cup 18. He appeared very rusty in the first half, as he gave up both goals to Xavier Church within the first 30 minutes. At 12 minutes and 28 minutes, Church struck hard and made Larouse pay for his rust. The second half was a lot more competitive with both teams running all around the pitch trying to score and gain ground.
Even though the Vikings lost to the lawyers, both teams ended up 2-0-1, and with Five Civilized Nations defeating Giant Zucchini, those teams both ended up 1-0-2 ensuring that the Vikings would make it through. Now, Fmjphoenix must prepare for a match against Kylaai. Coach Wash decided from match footage of Kylaai that they will single out their attacker Mazu Kazu to try and force Vlanti Vimorta or even Kylaai's midfielders into trying to take shots that they wouldn't normally do. With the Vikings hungry for victory, expect them to come out fierce and prepared for anything that they will throw at them.

Hiiraan faces Haperd
Last Match Tie, Team heads to semis
The Hiiraan Team tied Suprland yesterday in a stargetic game to end the WC20 CoH with 2 wins and a tie, The tie forced Suprland to lean back to #3 and forced out of contention as we now have a team we beat, the Nonesuch with use on the quater finals, if the nonsuch win, it will easy road for us to the finals, we obviously hope we finish with a win on the quarterfinals against haperd. a team we never faced nor saw play, we have been watching tapes in it clearly shows that the heperd team are well prepared and stragetic, but they are missing great wingers as they lack defense and wing defense to be exact.
The Hiiraan will push through and hope for a win, we will attack the wings and push the middle and force them to defend from all sides, this will greatly reduce the power of the two main mids who have shown a hunger for wins, we will not only stop them, but shut down, "we have something for them in the corner" said the coach, after he avoided firing because of his fonaminal finish in the world cup. the next world cup will be none the less the best for us, we try to import players from the U21 team.

Nonesuch Make Quarters
Scrape Through Against Weegies
Nonesuch Street's footballers never seem to make much of a name in the World Cups, apart from that shock beating of Melmond, but the short, snappy format of the Cup of Harmony seems to be just the ticket for the small Street. A key 1-0 victory over Spurland, achieved with top-notch defence and more than a fair share of luck with the referee, sees Nonesuch Street make yet another Harmony Cup quarter-final. The only thing that was required was to draw The Weegies, and although that proved a tougher charge than expected against The Weegies U-21 side, J.C. MacSwell scored the first goal of the match after twenty-eight minutes and virtually decided it. The Weegies needed two goals, and despite putting massive pressure on Nonesuch's goalkeeper Highsenburg, Nonesuch Street managed to hang on for forty-five minutes without conceding a goal. In the seventy-fourth minute, Keith McIntosh crossed in for 17-year-old star Falaigh Riordan to equalise with his head, but by then, it was all too late. Nonesuch Street substituted Poahcare and Bruthaford for Shrewdinger and D'Iraq to play with six men at the back in the dying minutes, and the tactic worked well enough to ensure a quarter-final fight with Tadjikistan.
The Tajiks have impressed throughout the group stage, beating the two major competitors Haperd and Raptor Claw. The 1-1 draw with Royal Engrand, however, suggests that they may be underestimating opponents such as Nonesuch Street, although their coach Tsjenija Lutsjinskij would only accept that the pressure was on the Tajik side - but, he also mentioned that the Tajiks well knew that in the cup stages, there was no turning back.

Same ol' Vikings, come out flat against Kylaai, lose again
Powell Lamar was still feeling a little sick when he took to the pitch against Kylaai, and he played like it too, as he allowed two past him and the Vikings came out with no punch in a 2-0 loss to exit them yet again from competition.
In another bad match, Coach Wash is beginning to be critisized that he has yet to bring anything back home to Fmjphoenix. This is the third time the Vikings have gone to the Cup of Harmony, and the third time the Vikings have left the cup early as well. In all three runs in the World Cup have resulted in not going anywhere, same as all three runs in the Cup of Harmony. It is being said that if Coach Wash does not at least get into qualification during World Cup XXI, that the ownership of the Vikings will look for a new coach. But then again, they may start doing that anyway.
"I can't deny that we have been playing bad.The desire to win burns brightly in these guys, but they don't get any breaks anywhere. This is it though. Its about to hit crunch time, make it or break it. We will see what happens coming up soon"

Tadjiks make it to Semi-Finals
The Tadjiks were favorites for the Cup, many outsiders said that. And it is exactly that role of favorite, Luchinsky feared most. Some of Tadjikistans internationals are real pro's with lots of experience but many players have seen only one great tournament and remember only the sad results from WC20.
And it was with the memory of their failure that they arrived at the T'blisi Ring, where they faced Nonesuch Street, ranked 53rd, they finished the group stage in second position, with 4 points in 3 matches. Definatly a team the Tigers could beat, all they had to do was relax and mentally prepare for the match.
Luchinsky invited his players to the trainingfield and kept them there as long as he could. Appearantly it was enough to clear their mind and focus on the mtch rather than the comments from the media. When the Tadjiks arrived at the T'blisi Ring they were ready to make the best of it.
The game started with Nonesuch Street trying to find the weak spots in the Tadjik defense, they walked into a wall, built and maintained by Zhilenkov, an old, slow but technically experienced veteran supported by SKA Pamir Dushanbe's captain Talbak Nazirov and the much younger, less experienced Oborin.
The Street probably noticed Oborins inexperience and used it against him fifteen minutes later, when Nonesuch Striker Chandra Seccah moved past him. Lucky for Oborin, Alekseev stopped the shot that followed with his right fist and gave Nonesuch a cornershot.
One cornershot was enough for them to score it seemed, de Slah passed to MacSwell who had taken position outside the sixteen meters and scored Nonesuch Streets first of the match.
A setback for the Tadjiks but not enough to beat them. Luchinsky sent Surdeyev in for Zarakovsky and had him team focus on the flanks. It was an old tactic but it worked miracles this time.
Koshevoi was the first to prove it by breaking out on the right flank. He outmanuevred Fineman and placed his shot in the right corner of Nonesuch Streets goal. It was a relieve for Luchinsky, a defeat here was probably enough to get him fired. And he knew there were enough candidates to take his post, but he also remembered they were not all as experienced as he was. He used his experience as player and coach to surprise his opponents as he did to Nonesuch Street with strategies noone remembers.
The Tadjiks sought a second goal to complete their game, Ter Gasparian came close to scoring when he and Zaev moved trough the centre, Ter Gasparians shot bounced of Beyta's shoulder and off to Surdeyev who saw the opportunity and took it with both hands by kicking hard at the box. Highsenburg jumped but he could only watch as the shot deflected on a defenders leg and into his goal.
At 2-1, the Tadjiks relaxed again, But not Luchinsky. He feared a counterattack from Nonesuch Street and replaced Oborin with Vladimir Lvov. Lvov played his first match in CoH, so the opponent had never seen him or his abilities before. Lvov had more experience than Oborin but lacked the letters technical talent.
Nonesuch Street made desperate attempt to turn the tide in their favor and pushed for a second goal, but the defense kept the Tadjik box clean while the Tigers recuperated every lost shot and rushed down the sides.
In one such rush, in the 85th minute, Ter Gasparian was tackled by a Street defender. It seemed obvious for the Tadjiks, they'd get a free kick for that but the ref was looking in his papers when it happened. fortunatly for the Tadjiks, the linesman was alert and explained the situation to his collegue. The ref kept his cards in his pocket but agreed to give the Tadjiks their free kick.
Alexander Zaev dropped the ball left of the Streetian wall, Kirponos rushed forward past the wall and scored with his first goal on the Cup with his left foot and assured Tadjikistans qualification for the Semi-Finals were they'll meet Hiiraan.
Hiiraan Prepares for the Semi-Finals
The Great Gtasby and Abdul-rahman Mustafa
The Hiiraanian Men after coming out the fourth team in their group in WC20 will be going to the Finals of the SO region and the Semi-finals of the CoH tournament, we will be facing the determined tadjiks who have performed horribly in WC20 but are doing quite good in the CoH of the WC20, their team has managed to beat out the team we have beat before nonesuch streets, a team that is close to the Streetian from cockstreet who have accused the U21 team of cheating their way into the Quarter-finals.
The Hiiraanian team have been on Camp DELTA after moving to CAMP DELAT yesterday for their performance training, the team has never went to any camp for such an important game, even if we go the CoH Finals we will be proud, we are trying all of our efforts to beat the tadjiks and make them feel as horrible as possible.
The Hiiraanian public have been focused on the CoH so hard that it seems it was a test for Hiiraanian team, either to came out or just went it and put all of our efforts to win the tournament, we promise a win tomorrow and we will try to win with all of our eyes focused on the big trophy, the trophy that will matter in the next world cup and the trophy that will put in the History books, the CoH Trophy.
In another news that rocketed out of the media today, Abdul-Rahman Mustafa has been promoted to the national team after becoming so superior to the U21s that he was blamed for making Hiiraan win, the team that has the most will win the most which means Hiiraan has a great chance wining…. With such players as Mustafa the team will add pressure, he has been given the nickname: The great Gatsby, we really do not under stand, but we know it sounds good. Maybe an it’s a book you may have read.

OOC: Thank you, first time i get to the finals of a cup!
Tigers reach Finals
Hiiraan, after winning in their group seemed unstoppable in their race for the CoH trophy, so unstoppable they promised their fans a win against the Tigers. But they were a bit fast in their predictions.
The Tigers, in good condition and still looking for a revenge for their WC20 castastrophe, put up a good fight against a side that already thought it was trough. Needless to say, lightning struck when Zytsev scored a first Tadjik goal in the 23rd minute. All of a sudden they werent so sure of their victory anymore.
Now it were the Tadjiks who dropped back to there own half while the Hiiraani's pressed forward. Tadjikistans defense held out for most of the first half, Alekseev had to come out of his box once to meet Hiiraan youngest talent Abdul-rahman Mustafa.
Luchinsky wasnt sure what to think, 1-0 was enough to win but he knew Hiiraan would try to equalise and drag the Tigers into extra time. At the start of the second half, the replacement of Oborin by Lvov was anounced and everyone knew they'd go defensive.
Hiiraan must have know the Tadjik tactics there, they responded with offensive football, pushing the Tadjiks back to their own goal. Hiiraan was constantly looking for an opening.
They eventually found one in the 91st minute when there was a misunderstanding in the Tadjik defense between Lvov and Nazirov. Hiiraan came trough and surprised Alekseev with a low shot in the left corner. Luchinsky's courage sunk to his shoes as he witnessed the whole situation.
The game was continued in extra time, Luchinsky knew it was everything or nothing now and threw in Zarakovsky for Surdeyev in an effort to add some offensive power to his team. The coach also changed the tactics for his strikers and had Zaev and Kirponos play exclusivly for Ter Gasparian.
It was especially Kirponos' experience that lead to a first good chance, but Gasparian failed to get it into Hiiraans box and the shot went in the sidenet. Only a minute later, they moved up again, Zaev behind the ball. He passed to Kirponos who had to pull some tricks out of his hat to keep the Hiiraani defenders off his back. Once near the goal he could not give an assist to Gasparian, covered by two defenders so he passed to Zaev behind him and he scored trough the goalkeepers legs. Good for a ticket to the CoH finals.
Luchinsky commented both teams after the game"I must admit it wasnt easy, Hiiraan played a good match and almost won but in the end we prevailed with our organization. I'm sure the Hiiraanis will end 3rd. We started fine but once that first goal came, the players thought it was over and we allowed our opponents to come back. That is something we have to work if we want to win this Cup."
"We have met Kylaai before in WC17, we lost our first match 1-2 and won our second 1-3. To avoid aloss now we'll have to use the time left to prepare for that last battle. Winning the Cup is a dream, but definatly possible. We havent won anything yet so It'd be the best thing that ever happened to us."

Kylaai have won the Cup of Harmony for the second time in a very happy day for all Kylaai people. Norada-Fell scored for Kylaai because he is the hero of the Kylaai team sometimes and this was just another time for him to be a goalscorer. Kylaai did not do so well in the last Cup of Harmony and were very dissapointed to lose the World Cup Finals even though we had the same amount of points as the team that made it to the next round. Kylaai are happy to prove that we are still very good and one of the best teams in the Cup of Harmony by winning it. Hopefully this will be the last Cup of Harmony win for Kylaai, but if we have to enter again we will try to win.
