In the face of a collapsed public education system, Alphin Kolani, the leader of Mirfak, has announced that his government will impose the nation's first income tax to provide education for all. "It is the responsibility of this government to provide for the people what they cannot provide for themselves, and to ensure the future of the nation of Mirfak. An elitist education system cannot provide the pool of skilled workers we need to be effective in the new age. From this point forward, there will be an income tax imposed to provide for this and other such services required for the welfare of the state," he said in a speech delivered this morning. This comes in the wake of a massive redefinition of civil and criminal law in Mirfak, which makes all disputes between two parties civil matters and restricts criminal law to only offenses involving multiple parties or offenses against the government itself. Kolani has assured the public that this action will not limit the power of the KGB to investigate civil issues and arrest subpoenaed offenders.
