World Cup 21 :: The Popular Vote :: An Idea For the Future

Well, I'm in a very hectic position right now, and just had what could be my first recognized contribution to the whole WCC thing. Since I've disowned myself from the WCC meeting room, this will have to go on the fly. If the idea is rejected, the thread can stay for fun. If the idea is accepted, then alas I've contributed instead of detracted.

Anyway, my idea was this. Some people want popular vote, some people want the electoral college. Well sod them all (did i say it right, brits?). This is what I think. Keep it the way it is, but why not have a popular vote, that can contribute to the WCC vote. Now you can look at it one of 3 ways.

The First: Give the Popular Winner 1 WCC Vote towards becoming host.

The Second: Use the Popular Vote as a tiebreaker only in the event of a tie

The Third: Sod the popular vote (again, good?) or go with something totally different.

Well anyway, there it is, my idea and it took 3 minutes to type. Have fun with it :) And Buyer beware, the poll is public so WCC members stay away or beware of your heads!

Cockbill Street & Lethislavania
Crystilakere & Melmond
Eauz & Krytenia
Raptor Claw & Legalese
Liverpool England & Rand(Signups!A1:A200)

It's interesting normally there are 2 vets in a bid, but here you have a vet and newb in all of them. CS, Mel, Eauz, Legal, Rand...:D Anyone could host it.

Before I vote, I'd just like to use this post to organize my thoughts and give some input.

Cockbill Street/Lethislavania
They are both good, experienced hosts with a smart scorinator

Crystilakere/Melmond
Wonderful ideas on RP bonus and flexible group sizes

Eauz/Krytenia
Simple scorinator, and I'm impressed with the Krytenia stadia

Raptor Claw/Legalese
I like the RP bonus idea and I am impressed with the effort demonstrated in the web site. I remember WCXIX was going to have a website.....

Liverpool England/Rand
Sadly I don't know anything about this bid except the credentials of Liverpool England. The fact that they pissed off Hiiraan over the ethnic slur scores points in my book.

OK, I just decided my vote is confidential unless you need me to release it. But those are the things I like about each candidate.

Oh, lol. Well, it was the website that pushed them over the edge then. ;)

I, having no manners, voted for myself.

Sorry.

However, I would like to note that If I lose, I will throw my support to Eauz/Krytenia.

Yours truly,

Alex.

I voted for "Other". Basically, my Druidan side got the better on me and i crossed all the boxes - oops, spoiled ballot!

(I ain't voting for myself, that's just conceited!)

Of course, if it is rejected, you could always use this as YOUR vote...

Damn, wish I had voted for myself now....

(I ain't voting for myself, that's just conceited!)I disagree. If you honestly feel you have the best bid (and you're not attributing that to bias), I don't think it's conceited at all.

I'm normally my own harshest critic, so that's saying a lot.

I vote Other - or "not applicable".

Edit: Good idea tho Vil :)

Just a note, no WCC members may vote for their own bids so I dont see why you should be able to do so here even if it doesnt count.

And I think that this should be used in event of a tie.

Well, I mean, I'm 4 votes behind Eauz/Kry, so my vote can't be THAT huge.

Vil - I only see one problem at the moment. It would seem and forum visitor wanting to screw up the results could, whether or not they have a genuine vested interest in the cup.

I have voted CrYmE team for the obvious reason that they have provided every thing possiple is such a small package and delivered it good.

I hope they win and we would see each other next WC21

-----------

sorry to say this but i ave seen members i have never seen in world cup ever vote on the KRYTENIA's team, they have names, if i am wrong, i am sorry.

I think this should be the official vote for the host, bit I think we're doing it the wrong way. This is like an FPTP electoral system, and we all know that they're BAD!!! We should use something like the AV system, which is so much better. We each put the bids in order of preference, the one we want to win at the top, and the one we'd least like to win at the bottom. Then the first preference votes are added up, and if one bid gets over 50% of the vote, they win. If not, the bid with the least votes is eliminated and their second preference votes redistributed. If a bid now has 50% of the vote, they win. If not, another bid is eliminated, and so on until a bid has over 50% of the vote. That way, we guarantee that the most popular bid wins.

Now I've said my bit, I'll go back into hibernation.

That's the problem though. There are a clutch of very good bids this time round, and it'll be a close race I'm sure. We have a good bid, but others do too.

That should be resolved by counting no one's vote except those who have participated or will participate in the cup. Hence a public poll, I expect.

I don't think that changes the vote totals other than disgarding the two votes cast for LE&Rand:)

I've had an even better idea. Instead of ranking all the bids in order of preference, just state your top two preferences. It's really only the top two that are necessary anyway, and this method cuts down on the length of people's vote. Some feedback would be nice.

And who is Rand? I thought LE had pulled out of the bidding.

Rand is the random person LE votes with this Cup.

Eauz/Krytenia
Simple scorinator

Who you calling simple fatty? :P

Ana lighter note, as I have a WCC vote I feel no need to vote in this. Instead I voted for "other" so as requested I shall explain further. Basically this vote - "other" is a vote for myself to host singly (note- this is not an official bid- just giving me something to write when I'm bored.)

Um..... that's it. My last piece of advice:
Life is futile. End it now.

This is also a good idea to find out who will do well during the next cup. ;)

Anyways, I can't possibly vote for this, as it would be against the rules I believe, but anyways, keep the votes coming!

public poll in this manner = bad idea.

Nothing saying people couldn't make accounts to skew the vote.

Chose other because i have not decided which I will vote for at this time, but wanted to be able to see the votes, full well knowing they mean squat for me.

You don't have to vote to see the results, just have a jolt account.

Not as far as I know.

Shame really, we're doing reasonably well...
