Population figures?

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but.. Why do people take the population figures seriously? First, It's impossible that any nation's population could grow by several million a day. Also, on these forums, when there is a war, it usually seems to be that the place with the greatest population always say they will win. They also use it to count the military size. Then, when I want like a huge disaster, like tsunami, famine, or genocide by my own leader :sniper: I would like the population to decrease because of this. The population figures seem more to measure how long you've been playing, instead of really anything else.

I've brought this up, but it's fallen on deaf ears.

I just roleplay my nation has about 85 million people instead of the 1.500 or so BILLION nationStates has blessed me with.

Yeah, My nation's "fixed population is 77,777,777 people, which doesn't count pets, and wild animals. All those 7's! I like it better this way Even though it is 225 million. Populations should be like this, but only if people don't godmod and make it like 777,777,777,777,777,777,777,777,777,777,777 (777 zillion) people. ;)

Dangit! This is falling on deaf ears, people. Isn't a population increase of 10,000,000 a day godmodding?

Yes, a nation increases in population by the day, but that doesn't necessarily mean umpteen million people are born in your country every day. The game isn't really in real-time.

I'm always at a loss for how to RP for my nation. We hit 4.5 billion the other day. I mean, 4.5 billion?! I think one way around it would be to just round the number down. So say, instead of a country having 3 billion people, we could say it had 300million. This would be realistic as an extremely new nation would have around 100,00 - 500,000 people, like Luxembourg or San Marino or something.

But either way, i dont care

(OOC: This "nation" consists of one man. And his Orbital Frame. Talk about fixed populations.)

Alright, fine. But, when I enter a war or something, I don't want to hear how someother nation's population is like a billion more than mine, and that they're going to win because of it. Population is a way to measure how old your nation is, and an excuse that they will win wars! :mp5: It's not fair how someone would win a war against me because their nation is a few days older.

It depends.. one day = one year, and by the time you get a decent sized population, its taken that all conditions are perfect.. and such, huge bunny rabbit type unprotected sex lives are the norm.

You can always roleplay LESS population. PLenty of RPing circles have fixed amounts like 1 or 10 percent of what NS says, or some purely agreed upon figure, or no population figures at all.

But frankly if the game NationStates tells me my nation is immensely powerful, rich, and horrifically large in comparison to... anything else in NS and certainly in RL... I'm gonna RP that. I can't RP exactly what NS says but I can get closer.

And I've been playing this game a long time and my nation has gone through a lot of changes. I don't think its so simple to keep logging in, to keep roleplaying, as you all seem to think it is. At least not if you actually have a real life too.

Generally, people complain that NS pop is too SMALL for them, when they want to POPWANK and get away with it.
