Mondoth Discovers Oil!

"I'm tellin' You, the wells dry, y' Ain't gonna find nuthin but dirt and earth."
"You're wrong mister Greeves, There's oil here, I feel it in my bones."
"Well all I feel in my bones i an achin' back from working this dry well."

It was hot day. A very hot day, the Drill tower seemed to dance seductively in the heat waves slowly lifting off the ground, as if beckoning young men to come waste their lives trying to make it produce what wasn't there. Geologic surveys had long ago shown that oil resided deep beneath Mondoth's Eastern deserts but test well after test well had been drilled and not a single drop flowed from the parched land scape. Station 004 north was no exception. Run By Frederick Hye, it had used new technologies to drill deeper than any other test well in the desert, deeper than any other oil well in history and still, not a drop of the precious black gold flowed.

"Mr. Greeves, somethings wrong with the drill."
"What is it?"
"Nobody knows, nobody has ever seen anything like it, we tried calling uys from the other sites but none of them have encountered it either."
"Well let's take a look." He rushed off to the drill tower leaving a puzzled Mr. Hye and the drill worker who had informed him of the problem to follow his long strides. On arriving at the control room they found the other workers clusered around the main display with Greeves in the front, nodding as if satisfied by something. As Frederick approached Greeves looked up and smiled at him.
"It appears I owe you an apology Mr. Hye, the problem with the drill is that it just struck oil."
"You mean..."
"Yessir, we just made ourselve rich men. I've been running a few simple tests and it appears we've got quite a bit of the stuff sittin' tight right under our feet."
"Congratulations Mr. Greeves, I knew you could do it."

:Official Announcement from the Mondothian Government:
Oil Has been discovered in our Country, Quite a bit of it I'm told. At leaset equal to the Alaskan Fields and probably closer to the Middle Eastern Fields. It is with great pleasure that I announce that the amount of Oil projected to be produced is far greater than our demands at that we will share our good fortune with all the nations of the world. Even now, we have commisioned a fleet of oil carriers from our shipyards. And that within ten years, they will be plying the oceans, sailing from port to port sharing our new found wealth.
:End Announcement:

OOC; What would be a good price per barrel in USD to charge? just wondering, I tried searching the forums but couldn't find anything.

((OOC: Oil prices per barrel according to the OPEC standard can range from $100 per each (high) to $20 per each (low). This is for unrefined oil, which is what you get out of the ground naturally. You could probably get more for it if you refined it, but refining plants and maintenence is really costly. Also, a nation like mine would prefer unrefined, as we can refine it and get its byproducts too.))

Official Statement from the Resi Corporation:
We'd be more than interested in a couple of things involving this find. First off, we'd like to build a Resi Corporation oil refinery in your nation so that you could refine your oil and sell it for more on the international market. We wouldn't accept a drop of this oil except for maintenence for the refinery's equipent, and our only payment for this would be to keep the by-products of the oil we refine, as well as get the land for the refinery for free. Just think about it, you enhance your selling power and have to pay none of the cost. You could rule the oil market by undercutting everyone else's prices.

Also, we're interested in purchacing oil for ourselves, but as you haven't set a price yet we'll have to get back to you.

OOC; Dun worry bout it, happens to all of us, its esxpecially embarassing when you post as a terrorist nation when you're think you're a UN nation and vice versa.

IC; Refined estimates have shown the Eastern Mondothian Oil Fields to hold in excess of two hundred billion barrels and as other test wells are being drilled to depth the estimates are only rising. The Mondothian government has decided to accept The Resi Corporations arangement and hopes that it will leads to a long and fruitful relationship. With regards to the management of oil production, the Estern Mondoth Trust has been established as a government controlled company to manage and distribute the oil. Current prices are projected to be 75 USD per barrel at out set and be lowered to 65 USD per barrel with in three years.

Official Communique from the Resi Corporation:

We are most pleased you accepted our offer to bring greater prosperity to both of our nations, and a construction crew has been dispatched with materials to the site of the oil find to build a nearby refinery. However, we would also like to take this opertunity to extend a more solid hand of friendship by asking for plots of land in the commercial districts of your capital and population centers so that we may construct corporate branches in each of said locations. These will act as focal points for us to spread our myriad industries from and bring jobs, monitary circulation, and wealth to your nation as your currency booms in value. Naturally we will make money off of this too, which is why we ask. This doesn't mean that you won't make massive ammounts of cash with the deflation of your currency these jobs will provide, and when your nation booms, we too will boom by being able to provide your citizens with some Resian fine cuisine, automobiles, television, electronics, computers, and other services for a small cut of their pocketbook. These will all be domestically made by your people in factories on your land, so that you can tax their income and the products themselves and make money off of our business too. There are no losers in this deal of a lifetime.

So what do you say? Can we make your standard of living better?

The Mondothian Government appreciates your offer but currently is not open to mass foreign investment, if you wish you may open a small branch office in our country but they type of mass influx you are talking about must wait until the Mondothian economy is on a larger more productive scale thanit currently enjoys.

The news and diplomatic feeds were flagged. Deep with in the Ziggurat logic stacks whirred and made there decisions as did human officials and bureaucrats. Demographic information was gathered and analysis systems were run. Then a geological satellite made an active sweep of the area its deep radar peeling back the layers of rock and sand. The hydrocarbon deposit was marked and mapped as possibly extremely valuable. It however did need to be tested.

A small white object flitted through the crowded orbits above earth. It was a commercial civilian shuttlecraft, corporate logo’s covering its hull in bright swathes. Clamped to it, its passive stealth slowly distorting its presence the tiny ZMI parasitic deployment system finally detached. The device was no more than a metre long. Retro’s hissed super cooled gas into space in white puffs as the device aimed itself while trying to keep its thermal signature that of the background universe. Its hull deflected at odd angles or absorbed radiation as it came to rest on its target. Then it ripped open, a single projectile with an oddly shaped hull slamming outwards on a spike of drive flame which soon died leaving the parasite launcher tumbling through space and dissolving as the launch ruptured chemical canisters that would turn the launcher into a melted lump of space junk.

The D9-90 stealth delivery re-entry shell lanced down through the atmosphere, behind it an invisible network of X ray lasers were acting as heat pumps, its hull dully glowed rather than sparking white hot. It too deflected or absorbed radiation rather than bouncing it back. Inside it a tiny electromechanical system clicked as the shell reached an altitude, speed and temperature that was acceptable for deployment. The shell ruptured open, exposure to oxygen already causing it to begin to decompose even as it fell. What was revealed and what was now tumbling through the air was the mirrored silver like conical mass of a small geological probe. It hit the desert floor throwing up a cloud of sand as it buried itself deep. Waiting a few seconds to insure its position was stable two tiny 6 legged drones dropped out of two sections of the seemingly seamless body of the probe. They scurried up the sand walls of the impact site dragging shielded optic cables behind them. Reaching surface level they placed the ends of the cables on the surface and locked them into coin sized objects that looked like pebbles. These were smart tiny solar recharged point to point laser uplinks.

The tiny drones each no bigger than a golf ball would then spend the next three hours covering over the probe’s tiny impact site. Finally their mission done the drones burrowed down to the probe and re-entered their docking positions deep below the sand. The probe’s hull began to glow, first red, then yellow, the sand began to melt and reform. Then the probe reached a bright cherry incandescent white and slowly it began to sink through the sand. The liquefied super heated sand flowed around it and set as rough black glass behind it as the probe slowly began its decent towards the hydrocarbon deposits reeling out the two shielded optic cables behind it.

What exactly do you offer our country in return for us allowing you to set up within our borders?

Dang, I thought I was on to something here... WAIT! I bet they're oil isn't black and slippery so THERE!!!

OOC: Zeppelin, Mondoth has both an advanced land based anti missile/anti orbital weapon system in place and a current fascination with space, so I'd like to know exactly how stealthy your whatever was b/c at any given moment a portion of sky (even in the desert regions) is being scanned by radar, and infrared systems, telescopes, camera's, binoculars and the like just so you know.

[[OOC unless you have a Doppler station pointed just in the right place you won't even see it. Its a free falling small probe barely 80 centimetres long with a very low radar signature and no IR signature at all given that its in an unpowered decent and the re-entry shell carrying the heat has already broken up far above.

The most you would think is that it was a small shooting star burning up in the very upper atmosphere given the fact that the heat output of the shell which is also shaped to deflect or absorb conventional radar is low due to the laser heat pump system. Lasers on the X-ray bandwidth are notoriously hard to spot especially given the fact these would be low powered and firing straight back up the axis of the re-entry canister unlikely to be spotted.

Given that launch detection IR sats or ground based systems rarely look "inwards" at your own country and their IR sensors would be the only ones that could in fact even have a hope of seeing the tiny trace behind the re-entry shell it is unlikely to be spotted. Even then it could be taken as a trail of incandescent material behind a burning shooting star.

And the event of a small shooting star is an occurrence that is statistically quite normal. The chances of my geological probe being spotted are also slim. Space based recon could analyse years of back data to spot an unused zone well out of human habitation. You did state this was after all a desert. Another factor is that this would not be a "ballistic" entry curve usually used by warheads that would nearly always set of alarm bells. As for my nations technological prowess...well that is entirely up to you to judge whether or not to accept. The probes technique is copied from the possible NASA Europa probes simply more intense. /OOC]]

OOC; had to make sure, so many FTer's god mode when dealing with us lowly modern tech nations. BTW I hope your intentions are honorable, I have agreeable relations with a few future tech nations

We accept your offer, but please note that the "massive influx" we were talking about was supposed to be a gradual offer. Being accustomed to advertising as we are, I'm afraid we blew it out of proportion.

Ah well, perhaps another time,

((OOC: Technically, we're future tech, but we always dumb down our tech level for interactions with modern nations. For example, normally I'd have sent over robots to build, maintain, and provide security for the refinery, but I decided humans would do just fine on all accounts while I'm dealing with a modern-techer.))
