OOC: This is taking place immediately after the talks when Mr. Mancuso and Ivana arrive back under the pavilion. The sun is close to setting now, and temperatures are cooling off. Original thread located here:

Please keep OOC comments in this thread to a minimum. If it is required, I'll make an OOC thread, though that shouldn't be necessary. And now for the IC post..

IC:

Ivana continued to linger upon Mr. Mancuso's arm as they reached the pavilion. She thanked him politely and rested the rose upon the table that was next to her seat. Ivana then noticed a small note, written by Ă‹chanor: "Went to talk with the Knootians. Call if you need me." After a personal nod to herself, she turned herself to face the delegates from the Hack, and walked towards them slowly. On her way, she grabbed a small glass of juice. Upon reaching the delegates, she made sure they weren't busy, and bowed respectfully. "Greetings, I am Ivana Kasparov of the Erasat des Etaros. I thank you for coming to witness these events, and thus offering us hospitality on this magnificent island." Her smile was charming, and she took a light sip as the other spoke.

The three representatives from the Hack had been idly talking with themselves, aparently something about the upcoming World Series between with Chiba City Cubs and the Tindalos Hounds. Well, the human and Kitsune were arguing, the girl seemed to be more interested her game system.

As Ivana approached, the Kitsune smiled a little, his red eyes almost twinkling a little. He was clearly in a good mood, for what it was worth. Calvin, the human, bowed slightly to Ivana, "A pleasure to meet you, Ms. Kasparov. We're just happy that things could be resolved peacefully. I am Calvin Drzka, the Hack's ambassador to the NDA." He gestured to the Kitsune and then the girl, "This is Fusayoshi, and this is Rei, Captian of the Supercruiser of the same name."

Ivana bowed to each of them respectfully, noting their names. "Hello, and hello. It is a pleasure to meet you." She turned back to him, smiling gently. "I've been talking to Mr. Mancuso, the Dominion Ambassador to the NDA, for a while now. He told me, to my most pleasant surprise, that this island was in fact constructed by your nation and technology, and it is not a natural island in the least. I was very intrigued, and he was so kind as to allow me to come over here to talk to you about our wishes for a new island."

Ivana subconciously swirled her juice around a bit in its glass while talking. "I realize that our nations have had little contact before in the past. And I realize that it may be interpreted as rude by some to just jump into a topic. However, I must beg your forgiveness if such offense has been created, for it was not intended. If you are hesitant to talk of such large projects with the Erasat, I will understand. However, I would like you to be reassured by the fact that we are allies in VERITAS, and I must impress that we have entered enormous projects before, notably with DragonStar Corporation of the Federation of Sentient Peoples, who is very close to finishing the job of building our first interstellar fleet. I could go on, but I doubt you would be appreciative of my rambling," she ended with a faint smile.

Calvin smiled, always willing to talk business, "No offence taken. I should warn you, however, that building islands is far from an inexpensive adventure. I trust your nation wouldn't balk at a cursory credit check?" He thought for a moment and then continued, "Obviously I'm not the one who draws up contracts, but I can put you in touch with the appropriate people."

She smiled politely. "Well, we'll be able to pay for it. I imagine it will be trillions of dollars, and I presume that we'll be allowed years to give payment. It would be most appreciated if you were able to get us hooked up with the right people." She took a sip and glanced around her. "I am very interested, if you know, in how your nation has been able to build entire islands." She grinned, and continued drinking her juice.

Calvin smiled charmingly, "Excellent, excellent." He blinked as a small pager on his belt went off, "My apologies... one moment if you will." He pulled out the page, flipped it open and read the brief message. He leaned over to the tall Kitsune standing next to him, talking quietly before turning back to Ivana, "Again, sorry about that."

The Kitsune bowed, "Pleasure to meet you, ma'am," before heading back towards the Hack's embassy.

Calvin smiled again, "Official business, I'm afraid. He's a busy young man." He paused, collecting his thoughts before continuing, "At any rate, as you can imagine, the process is classified, but, essentially, we build an underwater volcano and make it errupt. The magma forms the island itself."

She politely said goodbye to the Kitsune, and smiled. "Fascinating," she said as she took a sip of her drink. "I do believe that my government will be interested. Of course, I always have to check, but I think I can pull it off. I want this to happen for several reasons -- furthering diplomatic relations is always a factor in my thoughts. Are there any limits on size, or perhaps requirements such as a deposit?" She set her glass down on a small table nearby and pulled out a small datapad as he replied, prepared to take quick notes.

Calvin tapped his chin thoughtfully as he pondered his responce. He was sort of flying by the seat of his pants, as he didn't have all the obscure charts and formulae that the weirdos in Section 1 used to figure this sort of stuff out. "As far as I'm aware, there are no size restrictions, in theory. Of course, we're not about to raise entire continents, and we like to keep in mind the ecological impact of bringing up an island in the middle of the ocean. The last thing we want to do is upset other allies by realigning currents or annihilating fisheries. However, we haven't run into any problems before, and our customers have been quite pleased with our work.

"Assuming that you're planning on a modest sized island, we can all but ignore ecological impacts, it won't be big enough to cause a major shift." The way he cast his eyes around the island made it clear that he considered Unity Island 'modest'. He continued, "As for deposit... well, I can't quote you actual numbers, but we generally keep the deposit's cost relatively low. Usually just enough to cover the costs of the fill to build the volcano." He grinned, "Most governments misplace more money than we require for a deposit. And since you're a VERITAS ally, we're willing to trust that you won't try to skip payment."
