Aerion

The night was silent in Rothea, the capital of the southeastern Aerion province of Lathkar.
The city was one of the ancient cities of Aerion, built in a Greeko-Roman style with heavy Arabic architectural influences as well. Of course, the more modern area of the city was high skyscrapers in the more modern downtown just one mile away from the older Central District, and where the large Governor’s Palace was. Though Lathkar was a poorer province, and so the city was not so grand as many other provincial capitals, however oddly enough the Governor’s Palace was very grand itself.
The Governor’s Palace, a huge white plaster and marble structure rising above the old district featured four large white domes, topped by golden spires, and an round central tower topped by a dome. Massive windows looked over the city, and a large guarded wall guarded the garden grounds of the Governor’s Palace. Soldiers of the Royal Army, from the local Royal Army Legion were stationed all around the walls as well as some machinery. For all intents, and purposes it was secure.
It was a quiet night in Rothea, from the concrete block skyscraper tenements that were the common residences of Aerion’s poor and middle class, to the huge palatial mansions of the business and social elite in the richer area of Rothea which was situated in the mountains.
Suddenly, a great flash of light ripped the night and an explosion, as the Governor’s Palace was ripped apart, and a huge mushroom cloud rained contamination over the central area of the city. A shockwave shattered the plaster, and damaged the marble structures surrounding the Palace. Smoke filled the air. Smoke poured through the streets, like creeping death. The smoke filled the sky as well, mushrooming up into a dark cloud which crept out.
The sounds of emergency alarms filled the city, as sensors and video picked up what had happened..
Immediately, from the Rothea Royal Air Force Base outside of the city fighters were scrambled up in the air to survey the damage, arriving in 10 minutes to fly over the area. Emergency procedures were being put into place.
News helicopters were quickly launched from the Aerion News Network (ANN), a corporate owned, but more independent news network. Footage was shot immediately to satellites, to be broadcast to the world, before the Royal Government could censor them.
NEWS HEADLINE: NUCLEAR BLAST IN ROTHEA
A pale faced, frightened dark haired brown eyed woman comes on screen. She appears to be attempting to maintain her composure at the news desk, she gulps “This just in, an nuclear blast has occurred in Rothea, the provincial capital of Lathkar. This has just occurred, so we do not have much information, but it has been confirmed: A nuclear blast has occurred in the city of Rothea.” She appears to be shaking, listening to her earpiece, “The Royal Armed Forces, and emergency personnel have been dispatched.” She continues, as live footage is put on the screen, “Now to our live news helicopters, just at the edge of the blast zone.”
The anchorman in the helicopter comes over the voice, as images of the terrible destruction are shown, from ground zero at the Governor’s Palace to blackened and collapsed buildings extending on out in the older Central District. “Yes, a nuclear blast appears to have occurred. The entire Central District appears to be destroyed, and the Governor’s Palace is just gone, we cannot even see it. It is consumed in a mushroom cloud. I am having to wear a breathing apparatus, as the air is just filled with contamination..”
Suddenly, the female anchor comes back on the screen, “Evacuation orders have been given to all residents of Rothea, evacuation has been ordered immediately by the Ministry of the Interior. Correspondents at our news office outside of Rothea are being told to evacuate as well, but we will bring you further news as it comes to us.”
