The Resurgent Dream

The Parliament of the Resurgent Dream sat quietly. Lady Juliet fumed in her seat, the admittedly terrible visage of the recently powerful sidhe not intimidating much of anyone at the moment. The backbench rebellion had been expected, of course. Many in Parliament blamed Juliet's leadership for the recent war in the dreaming and the recent coup attempt. The modernization process caused enough social strain already and many in Parliament had believed Juliet to have rather bungled the government's handling of the matter.
At the front of the room now, there stood a human man. He was respectable, in his early fifties. He wore a black suit and parted his slowly greying brown hair on the left. His face, more round than long, was not exactly handsome but neither was it ugly. His name was Vincenzo Lacau and for the last ten minutes he had been Prime Minister of the Resurgent Dream. "Lords and ladies, what we need now is not to gain access to the most advanced isolated pieces of technology so we can say that somewhere in the Resurgent Dream there is a machine as advanced as any. No, it isn't toys we need but national policy. Modernization means building a real infrastructure of roads, electricity, running water. It means building plants to make machines and parts for the construction of the things we want. We don't want a few pieces of equipment we bought to use in an emergency. We want the fuel and maintanence and production capabilities to make extended use of such technology over its natural range. My program on modernization will be one of steady development from the base level. And, tomorrow, I shall select the cabinet to help me implement this program. Thank you."
