Edolian and Freethinker representatives met in Sëfrul today before the backdrop of tensions over the recent acquisition of the Scarlet Isles. Insiders state that the negotiations lasted some nine hours and resulted favorably in an agreement. The ‘Treaty of Sëfrul’ as the arrangement is being called, officially declares Edölia and the Sensible Commonwealth allies and sets significant precedents for trade between the two nations. The treaty also resolves another pressing issue that has surfaced since the Edolian occupation of the Scarlet Isles: the status of Azure Island, controlled by the Freethinkers. A transcript of the treaty follows:”
Treaty of Sëfrul
The Sensible Commonwealth of the Freethinkers and the Socialist Empire of Edölia hereby declare themselves friends and allies and agree to the following terms of this treaty of peace and friendship.
1. Both signatories of this treaty shall pledge themselves to the mutual defense and protection of the other when attacked by a third party and neither nation shall be a target of aggression, military or economic by the other. Furthermore, neither nation shall assist an enemy of the other unless said other is the aggressor in the conflict.
2. Both nations shall, in the event of a ballistic missile attack, endeavor to defend the other from harm with the use of anti ballistic missile weaponry, both Earth- and space-bound.
3. The Sensible Commonwealth shall eliminate all import tariffs on Edolian pornographic goods, as well as lumber, silver and petroleum sales. Furthermore, the Sensible Commonwealth shall consider the Socialist Empire to be a Grade Green Nation in regards to trade and commerce.
4. The Socialist Empire shall agree to use Freethinker contractors in all scheduled upgrades to the Edolian Merchant Marine over the next ten years. Furthermore, the Sensible Commonwealth shall be considered a Most Favored Nation in regards to trade and commerce.
5. The Socialist Empire shall recognize the sovereignty of the Freethinker government with respect to its control of Azure Island in the Scarlet Isles chain. In return, the Sensible Commonwealth recognizes Edolian sovereignty over remainder of the island chain and pledges not to undermine that sovereignty in any way.
