Courier of the Stars (Open)
The Highside was a relatively powerful arcology, an attribute more attributable to the mild weather of it's location near the northern pole of the planet than anything else. The same location allowed for clear enough skies to see the stars, both at night and during the day. The thick atmosphere made it so the clouds glowed with the light of their sun, but so faintly as to not impede the shine of the stars.
The Highside had long sought the stars, and had managed to build seven spacefaring vehicles, four of which were unmanned pods that could go back to the planet, Necrovor, once they had collected the desired data. Such data could supposedly be gathered from planetside, if not for the thick atmosphere impeding energy signals.
It had been several years since the probes were launched, and most of the people who had survived the Necrovor raids since then had forgotten. However, when a meteor came crashing down outside the arcology, a team was dispatched to retrieve it.
Most of the dispatch crew made it back alive, but a small mob of Necrovors had managed to ambush them from behind a rock formation. The survivors, with the help of a dying scientist, managed to figure out that it was one of the probes they had launched, and to figure out how to get one of their manned vessels to the same system. Volunteers were chosen, and the last three ships were readied to launch.
During the launch, each ship flew upward from one of the three corners of the arcology. While attempting to break through the atmosphere, on unit overheated and detonated. After breaching the atmosphere, another ship had a sudden opening in the hull and caved in. The final vessel's pilot, a 15 year old militiaman, nervously punched in the launch code and the sublight drive kicked in, rocketing the ship into what his people knew as the Home System, but its inhabitants called the Sol System.

The AEN Freedom's Fury was busy engaging a small band of pirates. Even as the pirates dragged the fight closer to Sol the Freedom didn't care. Even if the fact they could encounter a Phalanix they had to deal with these pirate scum. As the last of the rather pathetic pirate ships was dispatched by the seemingly endless onslaught of the AE fighters a new contact came on the scanners. A small manned vessel became the new center of attention for the 7km long destroyer and her fighter wings. AS the first VBR-4 fighter passed it by the pilot sent out the standard friend or foe greeting. "This is the Freedom-2 of the AEN Freedom's Fury. Are you friend or are you foe?"
The nervous youth manning the vessel came out of sublight, entering the system. All the special systems which were built into the vessel, including the radio communication system. Almost immediately, the pilot received a transmission.
"This is the Freedom-2 of the AEN Freedom's Fury. Are you friend or are you foe?"
Disoriented by the trip through sublight, he initially panicked when he heard the transmission. Realizing what it meant, he grabbed his speaker unit and spoke into it.
"Courier 2 here. There's an emergency situation on my home planet, and we need military assistence. We hoped that we could find aid in the home system. Do you read?"

On the bridge of the Freedom a debate on wether to bring the pod aboard or not was going on between the XO and the commander. "Risks be damned if he is telling the truth then we can do some good!" "But what if he is a Phalanix agent? Then what?" "I'll take that risk. Alert the Freedom-2 to convert to hybrid mode and bring in the pod." "Yes Commander."
As the Freedom-2 recived the message it began to shift into a cross between a fighterjet and a humanoid. AS the hands came down around the pod a message was sent to it, "Please cut your engins and let me take you in. The commander is willng to speak with you about the situation of your home planet." Even before the pilot could respond the VBR-4's thrusters began moving the fighter and pod towards the massive destroyer's fith hanger.
The pilot waited for some time before the ship came. After how things were on his planet, he nearly soiled himself before he realized these humanoid machine wasn't a new form of Necrovor. Calming, he listened to the transmission and felt the ship being carried off. He complied with the command and looked at his reflection in his ship's visor. He combed his hair a little with his fingers to look at least a little more professional. He hailed the ship bringing him in:
"Thanks for the help. Be careful with your grip, though. We weren't able to afford an expert job on these ships. Mine was the only one of three to launch without being destroyed."

The pilot didn't respond. He was busy keeping the pod away from the steel remains of what had once been a pirate fleet. As the fighter flew past a small fight still on going a VBR-4 flew along side the fighter for a breif moment before turning to a single pirate fighter and devistating it with it's twin 65mm auto-cannons. Over the com net random coments could be heard between the fighter pilots as they cleaned up the remaining problems. Only five minutes later the fighter fired it's feet thrustersgently moving the fighter slightly higher than the deck. As it passed through the hanger enviro-feild it gently set down the pod and hovered away from it as a small group of armed gaurds dressed in pitch black armor advanced on the pod.
After his pod had been set down inside the hanger, he slowly began to sit up and punched the code to open the pod's door. It started to open a few decimeters, but then got jammed. With a swift kick from the pilot, the door continued to open until he was able to exit the pod.
The youth's image was that of anyone on a world in desperate times. His attire was a leather jumpsuit patch at various locations, with a flight jacket over it. His skin was almost ghostly white, and his hair was a dirty blonde. There was a sidearm tucked away on his belt, plain to see.
When he saw the armed guard, the pilot blinked in suprise, then chuckled lightly. "Seems you folks run a tight ship." He slowly unbuckled his belt and held it out to his side, effectively disarming himself. He dropped the belt on the ground in front of him and kicked it away. "There, I'm unarmed. Now where's this commander I'm supposed to talk to?"

Upon droping his belt the gaurds all lowered there rifles and quickly stood at a rather ridged stance of attention. A young woman roughly by the looks of it in her late teens walked forward. Her black and red uniform was diffrent from the normal jet black ones of the flight crews that were looking over the VBR-4 that had jsut landed. Her a few strands of her black hair dangled infront of her face but she brushed them aside and stopped infront of the young pilot and spoke "I would be the commander of this destroyer. My name is Commander Jessica Maxwell of the Independent systems. ((OCC:AKA the Advanced Elites)) If I may ask who might you be? Better yet you can answer that question somewhere more welcoming. If you would please fallow me to the officers club we can talk there."
The pilot nodded in agreement, thing held up his hand, pointing his index finger. "Hang on, the schemantics are still in the pod." He hurries over to the pod, then comes back with a boxy device that although bulky, is of sufficient size to be easily carried. It has a screen on top and various controls. "This has the greater details of our tactical situation. It'll probably be important."

"Alright then. You can show it to me after we reach the OC. The fighters are due to return soon so the hanger isn't exaclty the best palce right now," Jessica said as she walked towards one of the many exits. She leaned against the door frame and tapped on a small stand. It quickly came alive with three figures seconds later two vanished and the thrid began to report on the pirate attack.

OOC: Now this is an interesting looking one
IC:
The Druidic mercenary called Larenz jumped behind a steel shipping crate for cover as a team of the agents fired their handguns.
"Where these guys come from?!" Larenz shouted into his headset as he popped another cartridge into his pistol.
"I don't know! Just get yer tail back to the ship, double time!" shouted back a womans voice. "I don't who these guys are, but they just popped from nowhere!"
"Back in a flash!" Larenz jumped up and fired his pistol, taking down one of the agents then he bolted for the small, speedy ship built for two. A small hiss and blast of heat sailed passed his ear and into the ship as he sprinted.
"Lisa, grab it!" shouted Larenz, throwing a small bag full of the reason he and Lisa were at the docks in the first place. Lisa then smiled and jumped back into her pilot's seat and geared the ship into go. It rose into the air.
"What the hell are you doing?!" shouted Larenz. He dove for the ship, barely getting a hold on the floor of the doorway. He pulled himself in quickly and rolled to the side, just as a laser scorched the floor where his head just was. He jumped to his feet, the ship continuing to rise, leaving the agents on the docks below.
"Woah, Lisa, baby, what's goin' on?!"
"Don't call me that, you, you-It doesn't matter, the Boss is always hiring other people to do these jobs when I can do them alone! I'm sick of it! This time the Boss'll see I can do it just fine!"
"Lisa, you don't know what you're doing, who your messing with here..."
"Don't toy with me, it might work on lamewad pocket thieves, but not me!" Just she was about to squeeze the trigger, Larenz dropped low, kicking his leg, his combat boot hitting Lisa dead in the stomach. She fell back and out of the door.
Larenz stood at the door and sighed, his breath getting heavy with the rising altitude. "Sorry babe, people like you just don't learn otherwise..." He pushed a button and the door snapped shut.
He sat down in the pilot's seat and geared the ship into space. He leaned back in the chair, resting his back on his hands. He glanced over at the bag in the chair opposite him then leaned forward and grabbed the bag. He dumped the bag's contents into his lap. Larenz stared at two small crystals.
Amuniseum... He thought, examining the crystals. The big man said they're some new element, valuable energy source...Wonder if I can get a better price...
He jumped at the sound of an alarm, signaling the closing in of an unidentified ship. Larenz didn't need to identify them, already knowing who they would be.
"Dammit, who are these guys?!" He put the ship into high gear. How do I get hyperspace again...? Oh right.. He pulled back a lever and typed a code into the ship's mainframe. The stars passed uicker and quicker, then all seemed to stand still in a blaze of white light. It ended seconds later.
"Aw hell..." Larenz stared around as everything became visible again. He found himself in what appeared to be the end of a skirmish. He stared at a giant destroyer. "Uh oh..."
The pilot followed Commander Maxwell along as she received her debriefing of the recent skirmish. He listened carefully, hoping his arrival hadn't disrupted anything.
OOC: Basic bump.

Only seconds after exiting hyperspace VBR-4 fighters were swarming towards Larenz's ship. The lead fighter fired a single 65mm warning shot over the bow as the other fighters took up postions around the ship. "This is the Fallen-1. You are ordered to cut power to your engins and be towed aboard for instpection. Failure to do so will result in us opening fire on you," came over the com.
Onboard commander Maxwell stopped at a oak door and pushed it open. Inside was a rather welcoming room with a bar at the end and a pool table to the left of the door. "Please relax and just give me a moment to get myself a drink. Would you like anything?" though her question was cut short by a small hologram poping up on the bar. "Ma'am! We have a unidentified ship that jsut disengaged it's FTL right infront of us. Fighters are currently rounding it up but what would you like done about it?" the figure asked as her. "Toe the craft to hanger four and have a group of elites with XR-50's set to slug mode ready," Jessica replied. The figure just nodded and saluted her before vanishing. "Ah how I missed these Sol runs," she muttered as she crouched behind the bar and pulled out a bottle of some amber liquid and a pair of shot glasses.

Cut power, heh, no problem... Larenz cut the power to the ships engines. He quickly stashed the crystals in a small pouch and pocketed it. He opened a small box next to the pilot's seat and pulled out an M6D pistol and hid it under his jack near the hip. He rolled his sleeves down, concealing the Druidic runes tatoo on his upper arm symbolizing the Druidic Underground. Cops always seem to hate us...
Taking a quick swig from a flask, he leaned back and relaxed as the ship was drawn into the Destroyer.
Been in tighter spots than this...Just hope these guys aren't with those friggin agents...
The pilot nodded. "Anything to eat or drink would be good right now. The scientists weren't perfectly correct about the temporal effects of sub light travel. I haven't had a bite in what feels like days." As he looked over the array of beverages, he blinked in astonishment. "The World of Origin must have even more resources available than the old texts suggested to be able to put out this much variety. Got anything solid, though?"

As the ship was toed into the third hanger twenty guards dressed in jet black armor that hid all human aspects of themselves stood ready. AS the fighter released the ship it hovered to the side and shifted into the battloid form and hold it's 30mm autocannon arm at the ready. "Now exit your ship with your hands in the air. If you have any weapons place them on the floor nad step away from them. If you fail to comply we will forcefuly remove you," the lead soldier said. He seemed to be hoping he could beat this pilot. The fact that fighter pilots had seen the only action in this entire run through the Sol system.
"Well we don't realy originate from this system. About ten years ago a military unit known simply as the AE rebelled and stole half of there masters space fleet and escaped to a outlying star. Since then both of us have been in constant war. But anyways. There is a replicator over there. Just tell it what you want and it'll prepare it to the best of it's ability," she said as she poured a shot and drank it quickly, "As soon as you are ready we can go over your planets situation."

Larenz eyed the soldier as a memory registered in his mind and sighed with relief. Ha, I remember these outfits!
"Hey, take it easy guys, I don't want any trouble," Larenz began, his hands up. "You wouldn't happen to be under the command of Maxwell would ya? She knows me, I did a job for you guys a while back."
The lead soldier gave no answer.
"What are ya, dumb? This is her ship, ain't it?" Larenz looked around the hangar and whistled. "Lot better than that last piece of scrap metal she used to have. Anyway, see? No weapon, you can trust me. Just let her know a Larenz Macollic seems to have been picked up, at least she'll remember the big bang I made on that floating rock Gallimus."

OOC: Aye aye, Cap'n!
Ah I hate security...
"Well, the job was for you guys, not against ya, if thats what your getting at simpleton...." Larenz glanced at the lead soldier. "This isn't gonna turn into one of those 'you hold while I punch' scenarios, is it? Gotta warn ya, last time two punks tried that was in a bar, and to get to the ending of the story, I'm officially banned from Bennington Space Docks for the death of two thugs."
Gods, this guy has a tough grip. "How am I supposed to explain anything with you breathing down my neck? Makes a man nervous to have some guy with a strangle hold on his neck."
The pilot nodded and walked over to the replicator. "My name's Irun, by the way. Highside Militia Cremata Team." He looked over the repliicator, slightly perplexed. "MRE, one meal." A modest quantity of MREs appeared in a tray, and he picked it up and began eating immediately. He looked at the captain and smiled sheepishly. "Sorry, formalities aren't very frequent on my planet. When you've been fighting a war for centuries, it gets rather unneccesary to look good at minor things."
He sat down at the bar and set the data plate within arm's reach of both himself and the Commander. He pressed a few buttons, and a map of his planet appeared, with simple black squares marking various cities. It was a desolate brown wasteland, with rivers flowing here and there across the landscape. None of the cities went without being near one, and they were more frequent the further from the equator.
"As I said, this war has been going on for centuries. Our atmosphere has radiation levels and atmospheric mixes suffice to prevent off-world communication, or even communication across the surface. That's why we needed to send a ship.
"About three hundred years ago, we were trying to develop technology involving microscopic robots to make superspeed couriers from one arcology to another. However, some of the arcologies developed groups that wanted to use the nanites of living tissue to enhance it. They were exiled from the arcologies to avoid going too far down a nasty road, but one managed to smuggle some samples with him.
"Whoever it was, he used the samples on himself to save himself from starvation. After he succeeded there, he sped across the landscape, looking for like minds to corrupt and bodies to infest. Rumor has it he found others and offered them the same. Others say he killed his comrades and feasted on their bodies so he could control them with his nanites.
"In any case, he managed to figure how to make the corpse minions he created kill and infest their victims. It started out small, with couriers who never delivered their messages. We didn't think much of it, as windstorms sent them off course all the time.
"However, the South Plains Arcology managed to get a courier out that it had been attacked and barely fended off. The exiles, now called Necrovor, had been killing the couriers and amassing an army. We aren't sure about the details, but we're pretty sure they now match us man to man.
"We've recently lost an arcology to them, and that just means hell for us. Not only does it mean they are getting smarter, but now they have an effective and continual breeding ground. Unless your forces can move faster than sublight, we may not be able to make it before another arcology is overrun.
"The mostly use swarm tactics and scavenged weapons, but every once in a while we catch an Original or Behemoth. Both are consumed completely by nanites after all this time, and can't be killed with matter-based weapons. Our only effective tools against them are Ion Staves and Cremata Teams, but they can't get close enough until after all the others are dead.
"That's why we need help. There's good in it for you as our planet still has plenty of open terrain that we'll allow you to build up on, plus there are rich food supplies that will be easy to export once we get rid of the Necrovors. It'll be difficult to wipe them out completely, but well worth the effort. What do you say?"

Jessica smirked. She had always loved a good fight and this was jsut another one. "Just wonderng would our plasma based ship weapons be able to break through the atmosphere? If so that would mean we can provide orbital cover against most of there troops. And you might like to know we to have uses for nano-technology. Infact we first took that road so to speak where we enhanced troops. Infact almost all of the crew on this ship is enhanced in one way or another by nanites. But anyways. We can easily be at your planet within the day at best if the spacefold is a smooth one," she said as she poured another glass of the liquid and drank the shot. During this time a young major steped into the OC. Unlike most of the crew he still strictly fallowed the Phalanix military code. He eyed Irun but then quickly saluted the commander and spoke "Ma'am! We have the unidentified ship in hanger three. The pilot is a Larenz Macollic and says that you hired him at one point for a job at the floating rock Gallimus." "I see.... bring him here. And tell the guards to not break a visiters arm this time." "Yes ma'am!"
Back in the hanger the gaurd holding LArenz smirked and replied "If you should know we are banned from the nation of Phalanix becasue we ended up steeling over 1000 ships and beating down several of there crack units." The lead soldier quietly turned around and tapped his helmet agian then turned back to Larenz. "Looks liek you got lucky," he says as he grabs him by the neck letting the other soldier release his grip and began to lead him towards the OC at a brisk pace.

Larenz walked in front of the soldiers toward the OC. Hm, definetly nicer than her last ship, wonder what happened to that old thing...
The guards stopped in front of a wooden door and pushed it open, revealing a welcome sight to Larenz. Ah, a bar... He glanced toward Jessica and the kid she was talking to. The guard behind him gave a shove, making Larenz step forward.
"Watch it buddy," said Larenz, spinning around with his pistol in hand. "Just step back..." The guard glared furiously and stepped back from the door. Larenz lunged out with a kick quickly, which hit the door and slammed it shut. He quickly locked it and turned to the bar.
"Damn Jessica, you really need to teach your new guards some manners," he glanced at his gun and slipped it back under his jacket. "And to be less trusting to a guy like me." He grinned.

But anyways get a drink and we can talk later. I've got work to do right now," Jessica said as she turned back to Irun, "I doubt that my destroyer would beable to handel the fighting alone. At best it can provide a decent amount of support but I might have to call in a cruiser to deal with the troop compliment. Currently my troop complimten is about one thousand five hundred strong and thats excluding the pilots and crew."

"Well, somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed...." said Larenz as he jumped over the bar. He scanned the different bottles and pulled out a few as well as a glass. He poured a bit from each bottle then stirred it together.
He sipped his drink and leaned back, listening to the conversation before him.
Irun nodded slowly as he took it all in. "Plasma weapons should be able to function fine. It's energy wavelengths that can be used for communication that get smeared. As for what you can do," Irun stuck his finger up to a point on the map, then dragged it along the surface to make a square. He pulled his finger up, and the map zoomed in on the highlighted area. "Lowside is under siege, and South Plains is the next likely target. If we can get there in the time frame you said, we'll be able to repel the assault long enough to get reinforcements."

"I see.... If we launch ODPs about half a killometer behind the enemy ranks we can box them in and use the VBR-3's equiped with tactical nuclear missiles to thin them out fallowed by straffing runs with the VBR-4's and posibly we could use a set of fighters equiped with advanced com transmitters to break through the atmosphere and posibly beable to use the FF for a orbital strike. If this works out properly your forces wouldn't have to fight at all and they can work on building up defenses while our troops can recon the areas that would most likely be targeted next," Jessica slightly mutters, "I doubt that your enemy would likely expect being attacked by a force being lead by a 18 year old girl. As soon as all my pilots have landed we'll enter a spacefold."
Ten Minutes Later
As the last fighter had finaly landed the destroyer the ship turned away form the debries feild. It slowly lumbered forward so that no ships would know it was the cause of the debries feild. Jessica turned to Irun and asked him "Can you please tell our navigational AI where your homeworld is located. Without the location we would be making a blind jump and quite posibly end up in the star in your system."

Larenz stoood nearby to the talking pair, unusually quiet the entire time. He finished another one of his cocktails before jumping in.
"So kid, er, Irun is it?" he began. "How much money would be involved in this, an estimate would be fine..."
He patted the two Amuniseum crystals under his jacket...Wonder how much they're willin to offer for these two little treasures...
Irun nodded to the Commander and provided the Ai with the details as to his system's coordinates, the positions of the planets within the systems, and various other pieces of material needed to determine the location of each planet at any given time. "It'll be tricky because the ammount of time I was in sublight was probably a lot longer than I felt. It took years for the initial probe to return when scouting for this system. The data I provided will suffice, however."
Irun turned toward the Commander's guest and smirked. "Shipping between my planet's system and this system would be especially lucrative, considering it has been centuries since we've had outside contact. Odds are nobody even knows our system exists. Once we're able to turn back the tide, we'll probably be a potent export of food supplies."

Only a single second after the information was given to the AI the single window in the OC was hidden by a sickly green light. Fallowing the sudden apperance of the light. The ship began to shake and suddenly rocketed forward for a split second durring this time. Jessica smirked and wondered how her two guests would react to the spacefold. As the foreward thrust slowly stopped Jessica pulled her left sleave on her uniform up slightly and tapped on a small holoprojector that covered her forarm. "Alright since this is a decent jump we will be in the fold dimension for roughly six hours. As it stands we will start to land troops as soon as the first VBR-4S flights return from recon. As soon as we find what has happened we will begin our attack."
Irun nodded and sat down on the floor, continuing to consume his MREs. He glanced around as he did, his youthful appearance unable to hide his awe at the grandeur of the vessel.

"So...Jess, you interested in buying anything, say...like one of those new elements they found way out on the outskirts?" asked Larenz, as he pulled out the bag of Amuniseum. "That Mafia guy, Loracio, hired me to get these, but the mission was compromised by a few agents that popped from nowhere...I hear they are a good energy source for ships, and rumor is, a deadly weapon if used right, and look good on jewelry..."
He dumped the crystals into his palm and showed them to the commander as he leaned back against the bar. "Loracio offered to pay two million for both of these, though, I think his purpose with these may be for something less than feeding the hungry. I'm sure a couple of million Condates (Druidic currency) is worth your rebel cause? But mabye for old times, a mere million for both..."

I always end up getting myself into this stuff...I gotta meet new people, everyone else I know is always getting into scraps...
Irun nodded, then chuckled at the other guest's comment about the upcoming battle. "Relax, will ya? My planet has plenty of rocky outcroppings to hide behind until the fight ends or you're ambushed by a Necrovor and have your vital organs impaled."

Larenz glanced at the kid with a raised eyebrow. "I ain't scared buddy, but only a fool would go into battle unprepared," said Larenz, perhaps the most serious thing he's said since coming onto the ship.
"What's that about a 13mm? Cut me some slack, Jess, I'm a Druid ,not some big hauncho money loaded destroyer commander. So, er, can I have a pair of those 13mms? Perhaps a good light infantry assault rifle, with a good scope?"
Irun nodded thanks as he took his belt, then took out a rather chunky pistol. "Behold, my weapon of choice is not only a sidearm," he took out an attachable barrel and a shoulder mount, then latched them on to his pistol, creating a crude looking rifle. He then pressed a button at the tip of the extended barrel, and the small, jagged bayonet started to glow a pale orange. "It's also a light assault weapon." He smirked, then pressed the button to turn off the bayonet heater.
"Necrovors can be kept down by matter-based projectiles for a few minutes, but they get up after the initial hit. It takes an energy weapon to keep them down.
