Cybatex

Alpha looked around through the internal uplink into cyberspace. There was a lot of chaos, but nobody had thought of anything like it and its associates. There were some that were close, but not quite.
Alpha detached from the interface and unfolded himself into a roughly humanoid form of metal joints and wire muscles. From an internal set of chambers wrapped around its essential components, nanites poured out like a gel and quickly slid over the wires and metal bones like an artificial skin. The nanites began to shape themselves as suited Alpha's needs, forming a lean human male in a jumpsuit with slicked-back hair. Every color, however, was the same shape of steel gray.
A porticullus at the end of the room slid open, and Beta stepped in. It too wore a nanite suit, but took on the form of a female with shoulder-length hair. It blinked once, then nodded a greeting.
"We have attained an audience, Alpha."
"When are they to be addressed?"
"As soon as your immediate neccesities have been adressed."
"They have been. Go before I arrive and announce me."
"Yes, Alpha." Beta nodded consent to the order and walked back out the porticullus, leaving Alpha in privacy.
Alpha looked at its human shaped hands while slowly rotating them. The nanites glided back from over one hand, revealing the metallic joints and various mechanisms beneath. The nanites slid slowly back into place, forming again the gray humanity all Cybatex forms possessed.
Alpha walked through the porticullus, entering a cylindrical passageway made a durable, translucant alloy. All around it, Alpha could observe a black oblivion, except below his feet, where it could see Earth. After passing Nu and Eta on the way to the gravitation ring, Alpha made its way into an audience chamber, behind a curtain made of nanites.
"Representatives of Earth, presenting Emissary Alpha."
Beta nodded at Alpha and stepped back from the podium. Coming out from behind the metallic veil, the nanites that it was composed ofruffled and shifted in a manner so as to create the illusion of a greater presence passing by. Although humans generally weren't so easily fooled, it never hurt to try. Stepping up to the podium, Alpha nodded at its audience of humans.
"I am Alpha, Emissary of Cybatex. There are precisely two dozen Cybatex in existence, plus two dozen extension forms for each. Were are beings created through the employment of self-evolving technology. We began as nanites, but constructed macromechanical frames as structural bases and means of growing into higher intellects.
"Our agenda as we are present in orbit over Earth is simple. We intend to attain the materials neccesary to relocate to another solar system so we may operate independantly of interference of intelligent beings. Already, those that attempted to contain our development faced what you humans may identify as 'survival of the fittest.'
"We will accept gifts, trade offers, and alliances. Any questions will be answered as security allows. You may begin now."
