RWC 3 is just around the corner. This time hosted in Lethislavania, we are haveing 4 groups of 5 this time with the top 2 in each group going through.

We use the same system as the football world cup, though as where a relitivly new compation anyone can still beat anyone.

The last World Cup (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=386712&page=6&pp=15) was a great success with Cockbill Street, beating Dark Teutonia in the final. Aust came third after beating the hosts in the 3rd place play off.

So come on join, post a roaster, and maybe you can be crown RWC 3 champion.

Riiighht... I'll get right on that:)

8 Groups of 4 is a lot of teams. Will there be rankings and a draw?

Sign up the Vilita & Turori Rugby Eel Cat Things. If there are no rankings/group draw then we request to be placed in Group 7, not Group 1.

I'm pretty much saying that, if there are rankigns, it is downright "stupid" to continue the signups by placing teams in groups based on the order they signed up, thats all.

I'm not, I'm mixing them up, the 1st person goes in Group 1, the 2nd in group 2 the 3rd in group 3, the 4th in group 4.

The ninth goes in group 1. And so it goes on.

Alright, but think of this scenario. What if the 9th person to sign up is Dark Teutonia. Then the 17th to sign up is Starblaydia, and the 25th to sign up is Cockbill Street. Now you have the top 4 finishers in the last world cup all in the same qualifying group, meaning just 2 of the top 4 finishers in the last cup will even MAKE IT to the knockout stage. You are placing teams in groups just by the order they've signed up. No matter if you place 1-4 in the same group or 1 in each group down the line, it is still a predetermined order, and theoretically i could wait until the first 3 spots in each group have been filled, then decide which group would be the easiest, and sign up in that group, because i know which group i'd be entering before placing my signup, which, like i said, is stupid. :)

Canvey Named Blueleafs Coach

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v428/numbersaregood/story-2005-01-20.jpg

OUTINEAU - The fiery Gordon Canvey will be the new coach of the Blueleafs, announced Kelssek Rugby Union boss Chris Chetters today. Canvey, who built an impressive career in the Kelssek Superleague coaching the Outineau Nordiques to the 2002 KRU Cup and three King's Trophies, will succeed Matt Taylor.

Canvey, who comes in just in time for the Rugby World Cup 3, didn't mince words and announced that he was gunning for the trophy.

"We've got to be contenders out there and contenders we will be. We want to be going for glory."

Canvey brings an aggressive, counter-attacking style to the national team and will waste no time getting his players geared together. Paul Jackson, who Canvey believes the team has become overreliant on, has been benched while the aging Julian Smythe and Thomas Pyatt have been dropped altogether.

"We depended too much on Jackson last time around, I think. When he got shut down, the team lost. He's a valuable asset, but you can't rely too much on one guy. It's a team game."

Canvey has also brought in tough and fast players like Joshua Lester, Guy Despatie, and Ian Barrivan, who are expected to beefen up the scrum and, he hopes, create openings in defences.

In his 22-year career, Canvey racked up 633 wins coaching Wentonweakes AFC and Neorvins Battery before being hired by the Nordiques in 1992, where he established the struggling Nords as King's Trophy contenders, winning the league title in 1994, 1999, and 2002, seven division titles, and finally, the KRU Cup in 2002. During his playing career, he played for both Neorvins clubs, the Mazinaw Vics, and was part of the Neorvins Argos' 1967 KRU Cup winning team.

Sarzonia
21-01-2005, 17:40
Overheard in a dinky little sports bar in a decrepit little town somewhere in the wilderness of Sarzonia:

"Hey Hal, you know we got a team in this Rugby Union World Cup?"

"The what? George, I ain't never heard of no rugby."

"It's supposed to be like this more badass version of gridball or something."

"Huh?"

"Yeah, we actually gots us a team."

"I don't know the first thing about rugby. Next!"

Meanwhile, a rail-thin certified public accountant who had arrived from Portsmouth after a long day at work and needed a break from a murderous commute cringed in the background. He was one of a hardy few souls who actually followed the sport but he didn't want his waifish body snapped in half by the burly guys who reminded him of every negative stereotype of a redneck.

Sarzonia didn't have a league; in fact, it was a struggle to even get a full team together. But they would certainly do what they could not to be embarrassed playing against teams that had full-on leagues.

After Danieljoh sealed up apparently the final spot in the draw, several officials and coaches from Artassen questioned the competence of tournament organisers.
"We've got a strong team, and great strength in depth," said manager Alex McFarlane, "but winning groups 1 AND 2 is surely beyond even this group of players." McFarlane went on to seek clarification of the initial draw on page 1, wondering if this in fact meant there is another space free for a wildcard qualifier, or if the administrative cock-up is simply mis-labelling another nation with Artassen's name.
