Greater Prussia Withdraws from Metus!

This is GPNN, the Greater Prussian News Network.

We have heard chatter, but all unsubstantiated for the past few months, and it looks now as if the Emperor is about to confirm our suspicions. He has purchased time on every single network in the Empire and sent this feed to be picked up by anyone who wishes outside of the Empire.

It doesn't look like the Emperor has arrived yet, but he should begin any minute...Oh wait...he has arrived. And curiously enough is in the company of former Emperor Reverend Doctor Ian R.K. Paisley.

We are switching you over now live.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Napoleon IV, the Emperor of Greater Prussia stood behind the podium with the good Doctor standing behind him and to his right. Napoleon was clothed in a blue, 1810 pattern Imperial Guard General's uniform, yet, the Imperial Sabre, part of the crown jewels, hung at his side.

"Citizens of Greater Prussia and the world." the Emperor began. "Almost since the foundation of the Empire, Greater Prussia has maintained a membership in the Metus alliance with Melkor UnChained at it's head. Since the death of that first Emperor, Viktor Leipzig, relations between Metus and Greater Prussia have been shaky at best. Metus has looked upon the Empire and treated it as a second rate power. They have insulted the Crown and people of the Empire on various occasions either through words or actions, and have generally proven themselves arrogant and un-friendly to the Empire."

Napoleon leaned over the podium slightly.

"Let me tell you that no-one...NO ONE is going to treat my people as if they are second class citizens! NO ONE is going to tell my people that they have to answer to some Dark Lord tens of thousands of miles away! The people of Greater Prussia answer to the Crown of Greater Prussia and to the Christian Lord and cannot be bound in anywise to accept any other allegiances! We will not be told what we can and cannot do by something akin to the Devil himself! And don't let him decieve you! It is not propaganda! Greater Prussia was a large part of the Metus Alliance and we know that Melkor is a Dark and Demonic being and we cannot be bound as Christians to have any alleigance to him...but must withdraw ourselves to preserve our people and way of life."

Napoleon's demeanour became more resolute and determined. "It was said to you in Reichskamphen in the days of old that the day of our Independance was October the thirty-first...the day that Martin Luther tacked his 95 theses and began the Protestant reformation. That was our independance from Rome...today by shaking the dark and demonic chains of an evil overlord we declare our independance from THE DEVIL HIMSELF! January 8th is our new Independance Day! From this day forward the Crown and People of Greater Prussia hereby renounce Melkor UnChained and all its evil cults and creeds! We hereby withdraw our membership from the wicked, demonic Metus alliance and with open arms rejoin the civilized world!"

The Press pool errupted into applause, some even embracing eachother in joy. Within a few moments the Emperor had quieted them.

"We have seen how Melkor treats those nations that leave Metus...he hunts them like dogs...he makes them run and flee for their lives. I will not flee, and I will not recant the statements I have made. Like the great Martin Luther, I say to you, wicked idolator, 'Here I stand...I can do no other!' We do not wish to fight you, Melkor. We wish to separate and go our own way in peace. Yett if YOU wish to see the destruction of the Greater Prussian Empire...we shall not flee from you, for we are not afraid of Satan...we are not afraid of the machinations of the Pit! If you wish to destroy the Empire, then come and do your best, for we shall do ours likewise and prevail as the ultimate victors! Unlike those who have gone before us, wee will stand and look you in the eye! We will raise up a cry against you so fierce that none can withstand it! With blood and steel we will resist your tyranny until our last breaths...and I personally shall not cease the fight until there be not a drop of blood in my body!"

Again the Press pool errupted into wild applause. As they cheered, Napoleon relaxed a bit, and his face softened along with his tone.

"The Empire wants peace. We do not want to fight...and ask only to go our own way in peace. Yet, in anticipation of any attack by Metus...we have mobilized our entire Imperial Armed forces and every nation of the Empire has likewise mobilized the entirity of their own national armed forces. We are deeply entrenched and will bleed your armies on the ramparts of our defenses if you dare to approach!"

Ian Paisley handed the Emperor a Bible and smiled knowingly. Napoleon opened it up and continued to speak.

"As Christians all, we profess a faith so strong that no demon can tear it from us. If you will allow me to quote from one of my favourite passages...

Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Rom 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

We in Greater Prussia stand un-ashamed for the Old Time faith of Christ...and that faith cannot be found within, or be compatible to the Metus alliance in any way. The wrath of God is rained down upon the heads of the wicked. The evil ones of Metus do not only have their enemies to answer to in this world...but have to answer in the last day to the one who is their greatest enemy and shall trod them all underfoot...the Lord Jesus Christ.

If the Empire passes away beneath the boot of Satan...sobeit...but the Glory of Christ is forever and their time on this earth is yet short and fleeting...the hour of their judgement is at hand!"

As the Press cheered again, Napoleon walked down from the podium head held high.

As he walked into a private coridor he turned to Paisley and said..."We will see death and suffering unlike we have ever seen...and though we are as prepared as we could be...this gives me no comfort.

King Jason smiled as he watched the broadcast. As the press conference was wrapping up a Royal Guard walked in "Sir, the troops are prepared for deployment at the command of the Greater Prussian Armed Forces. All branches are prepared to defend Greater Prussia." he said. "Very good. You're dismissed." Conners replied and turned to pick up the phone, placing a call to Napoleon.

"Glad to hear the news Emperor, the Conservative Empire's troops are ready to deploy...you just say the word."

We are thrilled to hear this message. Several (?) members of Greater Prussia were reluctant to join the RWC in 'operation brimstone' due to their automatic membership of METUS. Once again, it pleases us to hear your statement.

The Foreign Minister patted Lady Bryce on the back as she finished coughing. "All right?" he asked.

"Gah. Yes. I should have known better than to take a sip of water when you're delivering news..." she replied ruefully. "They're leaving Metus? For real?"

"I'll have the video taken to you... but yes."

"Weren't we at war with them, at one stage...?"

"Briefly. We withdrew from that conflict though."

Lady Bryce glanced at the transcript he had handed her. "This is very... 'with open arms rejoin the civilized world'? That sounds promising."

"I must caution you... remember that this is a fairly totalitarian regime over there... It's not like they're suddenly going to adopt major civil rights and democracy, especially with Melkor looming over them."

"Fair enough. Still... Open a dialogue with them. Anyone standing against Metus is worth talking to, at least...!"

Official Announcement of the United States Government

We believe that our allies in the Empire have taken the right step. We believe that while it is necessary to maintain a certain counterbalance to the ToY, Metus is not the answer.

At all times, even when defending the most honest and true cause, one must remember and keep vigilant that he does not murder his own cause by using means contrary to it. Protecting good by allying with evil - and especially such evil as Morgoth himself - is not possilbe. Better it is to have our enemies to postpone the Kingdom of the Lord, rather than act against it by own our hands.

We stand by our allies in the empire. As sign of our suppor, we are providing transport to transport the full complement of the AVF into the Empire, as well as the 21st Army Corps, in order to aid in protecting those parts of the empire our friend Napoleon feels need protecting.

MIVD agent Vermeer was now at an army headquarters in a liaison capacity, writing how the obligation of diplomatic discretion tormented him, and how he was happy to have in Prime Minister nos Círdan a reliable and personal correspondent to whom he could pour out the bile of opinions and information which he had accumulated at the sight of all that was being done in the Prussian army in preparation for leaving METUS.

"...Since the day of our brilliant success at driving the GDODAD out of The Hague, my dear Lady, I never leave any headquarters but to travel to observe in another one. I have certainly acquired a taste for war, and it is just as well for me; what I have seen during these last year is incredible. If there is anything these fundamentalist Prussians are proficient in its war and especially preparing for it, but they do so in a way that strikes me as odd; a somewhat antiquated state of mind even if their equipment is as modern as ours. In the light of what I have seen – these preparations – the claim that the Empire wants peace seems very far away from the reality of the common soldier.

The ‘enemy of the human and Elvish races,' as you know, will attack the Prussians sooner or later. The Prussians claim to be our faithful allies, who have only betrayed our political positions twice in these last years. Yet they are would-be allies who at this very moment seem to be consorting with our fascist opponents in the Reich. Indeed, the idea of a Greater Prussian Empire independent of any other power which we despise seems far away from their collective mindset.

While we tentatively pledge to take up their cause, I feel it will turn out that the Prussians pay no heed to our fine speeches about moderation while Morgoth, in his typically rude and savage way, will throw himself at the Prussians without giving them time to finish the parade they have begun, and in two slams of his mighty fist break them to smithereens."

"In short, the Prussians are hoping to settle matters by taking up a warlike attitude towards their former allies, and it turns out that we will have landed ourselves in a potential war by supporting them and taking advantage of their gracious hospitality of sharing intelligence with us, and what is more, a war which may eventually come to our own frontiers, with and for the Emperor of Prussia..."

At first Prime Minister Nos Círdan read with her eyes only, but after a while, (although she trusted Vermeer), what she had read began to agitate her more and more. At this point, she crumpled the letter up and threw it away. It was not what she had read that vexed her, but the fact that events in which she had absolutely no part could still trouble her so much. She shut her eyes and rubbed her ears as if to rid herself of all interest in what she had read

"Well now. That's ... interesting." Antonio Pellegrino said dryly, shaking his head as he reached for his coffee.

Cesare Calabrese nodded in response, a slightly amused smile still turning up the corners of his lips. "And yet, they were all too willing to follow 'the devil himself' for how long? Amazing. Simply amazing, these misguided, reactionary nations. This is what happens when you allow religion to overtake your government. Chaos, waste, and inconsistencies, Toni."

"Indeed. I may have my own opinions on matters of the faith, but I agree that mixing too much with affairs of state is ... unhealthy at best. We may perhaps be biased, but I believe that we have found the best solution here, in the Dominion for that. It isn't as though they lack representation, though some would argue Giraldi has his own agenda that way," the younger man responded, settling back into his chair, sipping his coffee with a thoughtful expression.

"Ah, but then, don't we all?" the Chancellor said with a wry smile, though his expression soon turned dark. "Still, this situation does beg some question. I mean, granted, Greater Prussia has always seemed more bluster and bluff than anything, not to mention unpredictable in their actions. Why did they ally themselves in the first place, and for so long? Second-class, they say? Bah. Anyone who thinks to deal with Morgoth on an equal basis is a fool. But then, we are talking about Reichskamphen here. The devil himself indeed. As if one needed further proof of that. And they are a peaceable people? Pfaugh. It would serve them right if he were to wipe them from the face of the earth, but seeing as his attention is now currently divided ... my, what brave souls they be. I think that more than answers the question of 'why now', no?" His voice literally dripped with sarcasm.

"Dealings with Morgoth have always been dangerous to say the least. That we have been able to do so with minimal fallout until now has been amazing in and of itself, in spite of the Lady's valiant efforts." Pellegrino paused, growing more serious as the topic shifted, looking back to Calabrese with a deep frown.

"There has been no word, Cesare. We are still awaiting further details from Treznor and our people on the current state. I know this sticks in your craw, but you have to admit, it seems our best bet. Those forces that could reasonably be mustered and sent, have been. Our forces here and in our other holdings are in a state of readiness. All that can be done, is being done. We must simply hold our course, and hope for the best."

Another pause. "You are prepared for the likely outcome, yes?"

Cesare let out a long sigh, rubbing his temples slowly as he too sits back in his chair. "Yes, Toni. It wasn't supposed to happen like this. Not this way. This is going to put her new laws and succession to the test far earlier than they should be. The nuveau-elite are still bickering and jockeying for position. And the children ... good god, Toni, how do we explain, or how do we handle that situation? Who will believe? This is all too soon."

Pellegrino nodded, sipping again from his coffee, then setting it aside, glancing at his watch. "We will do what we must. As we always have. Shall I call the others in, then? It's time."

"Of course. Lets get this done," the Chancellor said, sitting up and straightening his jacket. "We've a nation to run, no?"

"Any public response to the Greater Prussia situation?"

Cesare snorted derisively. "Do you really think there is a need?"

"Point."

Emperor Cav watched the speech from his office, wondering what the end result of this would be. Surely Melkor would come after them, and Cav would fight with Greater Prussia in what was sure to be trememdously devastating.

At the end of the speech, two of the palace guards walked into the room. Their mood was somber, and it was as if a grey cloud moved over the palace at the time. The short conversation consisted of their warning him of the dangers of a war where anything could happen, and the necessity to move their Emperor to a safe place. He agreed, and with the help of technology, he could make it appear as if he were still in his palace, leading the fight and bringing Greater Prussia to victory.

Before the guards were finished, Chancellor Hamilton came into the office. He knelt, though he was not forced to as the reigning member of Cav's economy. Recently, he had been promoted to Arch Treasurer of Greater Prussia, and now technically held a position higher than his own Emperor. "Emperor," he said as he rose, "this situation looks bad. A war with Metus will cost the entire region trillions of dollars."

"Thank you for your continued dedication to the Crown," Cav said. "If Cav makes it through this, we will have a party right here at the end." He walked out of the room with his guards, leaving Hamilton standing alone in the Emperor's office.

Shogun Himura Kenshin sat in his office with his advisors, watching the speech unfold. "Finally," he said. "It's about time they did away with this stupid alliance."

"I agree, Shogun-sama," replied his chief advisor. "Shall I have Admiral Yamamoto called to his flagship, and prepare the G.P.N.?"

"Yes, it appeares that this "Melkor" does not like letting people go. We must be ready to defend Greater Prussia from invasion. Remember, the Navy is the first line of defence. If we hold their navy, they cannot launch a massive assault, and we save millions of lives," the Shogun said.

"Yes, Shogun-sama," responded the advisor, who bowed, and left the room.

"This, I'm afraid, will be big," finished the Shogun.

Kamphstandt

George smiled as he paced through the crowd. He liked this place. Everywhere he went he was recognised. The Red Hand patch on his left sleeve brought respect and admiration from the locals – something he felt he deserved. The tatoo – which everybody could see on his forearm – with the writing “I was at Perfection” helped, too. His destination was not far away – a schoolyard filled with Imperial citizens. Fathers. Husbands. Householders. People who were responsible for families. Those were the people who he would speak to.

“Friends! I am a citizen, just like you. I know what it means for a citizen to face a war. I fought the Federation troops. I fought the Socialists. Today, if there is indeed to be a way, I will teach you. Most of you will learn how do evacuate your family safety, without being crashed or stomped to death as you stampeded out of the city. The few who decide to stay and fight, will be taught how to fight. How to dress wounds. How to make an urban appartment into a fortress. How to protect your motherland. Either way, the lesson begins today.

And so it did – there, and elsewhere over Kamphstandt, AFV militiamen where helping the citizens of the empire. Helping them prepare for what was to come. Training those who wished to fight and making the homes of those who left into fortress. Whatever it took.

The Reichsmkamphen shore

Colonel Shmidt, 245th Engineering Battalion, frowned.as he watched the soldiers working.Laymen, he thought, think trenches are simple. Nothing more, they think, than a long, deep ditch. Of course, it was not true. The ditch is only the main communications shaft. Soldiers move – run – crouching up and down the ditch to avoid being exposed to incoming fire of the enemy. In the wall, various positions, holes, even bunkers are dug out. They become emplacements for macihneguns, riflemen, grenadiers. The main trench is jagged, looking from the sky like a huge zig-zag to make it harder to assault.

And digging it is hard. Very hard. Colonel Shmidt smirked at the logistics troops that were digging together with the infantry. Spoiled mamma’s boys, that’s what they are. Probably will be complaining about sore hands soon. But nevermind that. With their help, we’ll get the main trench line ready by the evening. A detachment can defend about one hundred meters of shore. We can defend eight hundred kilometers at best…. but those are going to be some tough eight hundred.

"Majesty?"

A short, indefinably ugly man ceases struggling with a black jumpsuit and stares, half-naked, at the aide standing in the doorway. "Well? What is it?"

"Majesty, Greater Prussia has just announced their withdrawal from the Metus alliance."

Treznor slumps visibly. "Shit. That's all we need."

"Majesty? I don't understand. Isn't that a good thing?"

"Not really, no. Metus has always been filled with too many egos to be an effective organisation, and that's always worked to our advantage. There was no way they could all be kept in line, forcing the Five Kingdoms to spend more time putting out fires than focusing on taking out Menelmacar and their allies. Once the dust settles from this defection, there will be fewer distractions. It's bad for us."

"But won't the Five Kingdoms go after Greater Prussia? Punish them, as they have everyone else who thought to leave?"

"Probably not. Between Alkanphel's apparent coup and Greater Prussia's size and resources, any response will be for appearance's sake. Morgoth isn't stupid enough to waste his time on them, more's the pity."

"Any response, Majesty?"

"Yeah. Leave me alone and let me get this damned thing on. I have things to do."

"Yes, Your Majesty."

Upon the arrival of the AVF in Kamphstadt, they were met with their former commander, and former head of state, the Emperor Napoleon. It was a grand military review as the Red Hand Division marched through the streets. Napoleon stood with the Generals of the Allanean Army who were sent along with his own Marechals and watched the division parade by. It was quite a splendid sight.

Upon the end of the parade, the division reformed in Protector Square, named after the former Lord High Protector, Joseph Thompson. Napoleon addressed the field units.

"Men, I as you do, remember the bloody battlefield of Perfection and the great works you have done in service of the Empire and in the cause of defeating socialist evils. I said, when I formed this Division, that the Allanean Volunteer Force would be the best of the best. It would be the Division that all others look to as an example. And as time has passed, it has proven me right. Today, in honour of Allanea's great contributions to the Empire and to freedom abroad, I am renaming this plaza, AVF Square!"

As he announced that, the covering was removed from a large statue in the centre of the square. It was a statue of President Kazansky of Allanea.

"Now let us fight for freedom!"

"Shit." Túrelio sighed and dug into his pocket, before dropping a fistful of credchips into Serendis' outstretched palm. "I guess you win the pool."

Túrelio scowled. "Unfair," he muttered. "Who knew there was going to be a damned civil war in the Five Kingdoms? I'm sure if that hadn't happened the Prussians wouldn't have got up the nerve until at least the middle of Coirë." (OOC: That'd be about mid-March)

Serendis laughed, letting her chair spin lazily about. "Ahhh, you win some, you lose some, Túrelio darling. Anyway, I'm sure the Lady will be pleased about all this."

"She will. I've already got a Prussian official calling me," Túrelio mused. "The man looks like he sat behind Jesus in third grade. They probably want some sort of arrangement... we'll see what comes of it."

He watched the reports with mild interest. It came as no big surprise and he saw no reasons for any action. Better just stand back and watch the show while taking no active part in either side. Melkor was an old ally of The Reich and Reichkamphen a former member with which they still had ties. He wasn't expecting much to come of this, probably a lot of flexing of bulging war muscles. He put the theatre in supervision and moved on to the next pile of paper. All the conflicts creates massive paperwork, maybe I'm getting too old for this

Rekjyavich Andropov Military City Security Control Center

Within the massive, underground complexes of Kremlin Cathedral The RAMCSCC, headed by the Praesillei Dei, controlled every aspect about the city.

When the Czar saw that the whole place was locked down, except for the NBC, he nodded in approval.

"Good. Ten minutes. Gets faster every day." He nodded again and went two levels below to Dersconi Security Control.

In the DSC, all transportation systems in the entire nation were linked up to here. Gates to the cities, ports, airports, subways, trains, etc, all controlled from here. Technically, the transportation business was private enterprise, but it was mandated that it had to be linked up here.

"Sir," the Knight on duty addressed the Czar. "All respective areas" -- meaning of course, cities, transportation areas, etc -- "have been alerted a long time ago, and all have given the green light." The Czar nodded.

"Good. Lock them down."

"Yessir." Ten minutes later, all major cities were fortresses, all planes grounded, all airports closed, etc, etc. Only the NBC and Imperial Navy ports remained open. Even the roads were closed. THe borders were obviously closed, too. The entire nation became one giant fortress.

Hubbard Mountain Complex

While the civil war continued on outside the large underground complex, Lt. Colonel Stephen Clayton was leaning over a fairly worn map of Northrop-Grumman on his desk, making rough sketches of an assault he had in mind for the next day. He was soon interrupted by a knock on his office door.

"Enter," he said as he looked up. A captain entered the room with two folders in his hand.

“Sir, I believe you might want to read this.” He handed the folder to Clayton, who opened it and read it very carefully.

“Are you sure this is correct?”

“Yes, it was taken directly from GPNN.”

“Damn, I wish the timing was better. We can’t do a thing for our friends, Allanea and Derscon. Our hands are pretty much tied right now with the civil war.”

“I know, sir. This other folder doesn’t make the problem any better.” The captain opened the other folder and showed it to Clayton. “We have three large factories in Allanea. I have here a list of their contents: two thousand M1014 12-gauge shotguns, four thousand M1911A1 .45 caliber pistols, one hundred thousand M16A2 5.56mm semiautomatic rifles w/ M203 grenade launchers, ninety thousand MP-5N 9mm sub-machine guns, two thousand M249 light machine guns, ninety PAC-3s, thirty Crusader self-propelled howitzers, one hundred fifty HMMWVs, twenty-seven Volcano Mine Dispensers, twenty Armored Medical Evacuation Vehicles, M3A3 Bradley Fighting Vehicles, and sixty M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tanks. There is a good chance that all that might be destroyed while they are stored in there.”

“Why on earth are we storing that many weapons there?”

“We sell quite a bit of arms to the Allanean government. We produce extra weapons and store them in large multilevel warehouses. It makes the large orders move a lot faster. Don’t forget, sir, we are still a defense contractor.”

Defense contractor, defense contractor. Clayton ran the words over and over in his mind. Suddenly an idea came to him.

“We do pay all sorts of taxes on that place, don’t we?”

“Yes, sir, but I do not see what that has to do with our problem.”

“You’ll see.” Clayton sat down in his chair and began to write. “I have a plan…”

To: Allanean President Alexander Kirillovich Kazansky

As you may or may not know, a civil war that is raging on in our country for some time already. This, coupled with the fact that we cannot operate any of our high-capacity factories without the ore mining facilities which are now behind enemy lines, has forced us to make drastic cost cuts in the fields of production. One of the most costly facilities is the Allanean division of our company. The costs of keeping a workforce of 145,000 on the payroll and the taxes on the facility are too much to bear at this present time. According to our contract, failure of us to pay the taxes and keep the people employed would result in Allanean seizure of all our facilities including the equipment and armaments within them. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause you, but we hope that in the future, we might be able to reopen them once again.

Overlord Steelblood was not overly surprised by the news. Long had Greater Prussia complained of unfair treatment in the alliance, although being the weakest faction, that treatment was deserved.

"So now the craven dogs wish to break all bonds with us," he growled, eyes blazing with arcane power. "Fools!"

Such a withdrawal was not only a blow against loyalty, but the generosity of himself and his allies for letting them in the alliance in the first place! Unfortunately, retribution would have to wait. The happenings in Lord Melkor's realm were of much more importance than the destruction of some misguided curs. Still, there were options available to him. The Overlord sent orders to Rillstadt, the secret mountain fortress that was the head of military intelligence. They were going to be doing some research on terrorist groups opposed to Greater Prussia...

OOC: Wretch, for RP purposes, the main group you will be looking at is the Pax Maria Militia. They are a group of terrorists who used to be the army of a deposed Emperor. Now they are trying to subvert the Empire and destroy it. They used to claim Catholicism, but have vastly departed from it and now seem to be taking on a more secret society type of appearance. You will need to contact Maj. Gen. Gordon Tailleur, the titular head of the whole thing who is now holed up in the nation of Jerusalem in the Greater Prussian Kingdom of Burgundy, he will be receptive and take you up on pretty much any offer.
