The Overlord Rises.

Crimmond

(OOC: CLOSED. Not because I'm stuck up about open stuff, but this is directly affecting a storyline and I want to keep it simple.)

There is a small man made mountain in the middle of Crimmond. It is surrounded by fences, razor wire, pillboxes and armed gaurds. The one enterance through the fences has a sign over it.

INFERNO SUPER-MAXIMUM SECURITY EXILE FACILITY

Crimmond didn't deport it's traitors. it put them in The Inferno. Based directly on the tale spun by a man named Dante, the facility allready held over three hundred maniacs, traitors, political activists and murderers.

One of the inmates was in the 9th level. The level of traitors. The level of the frozen dead. But he is not dead. Frozen, yes. But he lives in a type of stasis, conjured up by his top man.

Two workers grunt as they move the chamber the body is in. "Dammit, this thing is heavy, even with the anti-grav units." "Just push." "Why are we taking him out? He's supposed to be dead!" "He is. The doctors want to take a look at the body and then re-freeze it. Some investigation."

------------------

"-ir? Sir? Ah... he's awake. Good. Don't try to speak sir, you're being thawed still and we needed to know if your mind was damaged or not. You've been in stasis for longer than expected. The Black Staff are dying off. The Imperials will be back in power and rule Crimmond and what was Baggera."

The doctor was a Saratov. The largest bloodline in Crimmond. But this one was Vladimir Saratov III. A line of scientists that advanced Crimmond for decades.

The man in the tube, still partially frozen, was indeed a traitor. A former General, he had defected with his army and founded Baggera. Overlord Varchak. The most imfamous man in Crimmond.

---------------

Days later:

The workers had taken a body altered to look like Varchak back to the 9th Level and thought nothing of it.

Varchak, however, was far away, in Myer. Rumors of his arrival spread fast. Not many people had his face.

The rumors even spread internationally that the Overlord had returned. Rumors that included photographs of the former dictator on the streets.

Varchak stared out the large windows of the penthouse. "So, no one suspected I was alive?"

His former warlord, the half-brute Riok Oran, shook his head. "No. The people that saw you will be ignored, or called quacks. If not, the Black Staff is shot to hell and the Imperial Inquisition..." he turned and looked at the woman in the room with them. "With Kamara and a few others getting positions of power, they will be under our control soon enough." Turning back, he stepped to teh window as well. "The people still dislike you, but I do not anticipate major problems with the way things are going."

Kamara stood and sighed. Her Inquisitor training was allmost done and her natural talent, mixed with Oran's clout, meant that she was soon to be on the up and up. Not bad for a former slave..., she thought as she approached. "What about Lady Tian? She's the heir and the people want the heir. No matter how she screwed up in the past. Much too weak..."

Both turned and Varchak spoke softly to her. "I want nothing to happen to her while the people love her." He smiled and looked back at the skyline.

Tsar Daniil Chyorny frowned when he checked the intelligence reports. "...after twenty years..." he murmured, looking through his window. "I want confirmation. Send an agent to Crimmond."

"I don't know how long my grandfather can stay still in his grave with that man around."

((Okay, so it's short. I'm jetlagged, dammit.))

The day had dragged on and talk of how power was to be siezed was interuppted by dinner. The sight of Riok's uncovered face was a bit startling, but not enough to ruin the meal. As the three ate, Varchak leaned forward. "What's the world like now?"

A simple question which left the room silent for a few moments, except for the sound of silver and armor. Kamara was the one who answered. Crimmond has just joined a large alliance. Arda and the reformed GDODAD created Metus. At the moment, we are members of the Arda Alliance branch."

"What about old foes?" came the dead man's next question.

Riok set his leg of... something down and answered. "We're not sure, with many. Menelmacar has withdrawn from teh mainstream, though we anticipate that she is still rulling. Automagfreek is our biggest ally and is purging the Black Staff with us." A pause. "And we haven't heard from Roania since you 'died', excepting that the leadership has changed. Still probably pro-elf."

The three ate in peace, discussing what exactly the future might hold for them, unaware that the Varchak rumors had gotton international attention.

Albin Krysinsky checked and double-checked the briefing sheet. "There's no doubt about it..." he finally decided. "It's off to the mother country." The Polish exile thought for a few seconds, and then nodded. A chance like this doesn't happen every day... he would take the assignment, of course. The ticket was already purchased, as were perfect fake Imperial Passports and documents.

The question was, would he return after completing his mission? For an ex-secret policeman, there wasn't much left to do in this newly democratic Divine Imperium. As a Pole, he didn't feel very secure in a state where almost everyone was Russian and Jews walked the street freely. And being a Spy had never been one of his top dreams.

A job was a job, though. So, snatching up his passport, and memorizing his new name (Adrian Mrylinsky), he began to get ready for the flight to Crimmond. I wonder what they want me to do if the rumours prove correct?

To get into Crimmond, the flight would have to be on a private jet, landing on a private airfield, since all the others were military. But many of the elite would ferry in and out spies, assassins and the like for money.

--------------

The next day, Crimmond awoke to more rumors about teh Overlord, that he was not only in the city, but speaking to the heads of the Imperial Party. Which included more pictures. One of Riok and Varchak at the window together, gazing at the city.

"Who took it?" Riok asked, nay... demanded of a subordinate.

"We don't know. It was a picture sent to the media without a name."

"Then you better find the name."

-------------

The photographer though... he knew he'd never be found. After all, a man with no name couldn't be identified, could he?

The man looked out from under the brim of his hat and scowled. He was two blocks away from Varchak, with a high powered sniper rifle with a camera in the sight. He had been watching for the past hour and no movement.

He let out a sigh. Being an assassin tended to be dull at times, especially when one was just to watch a target. After another minute, the man stood, packed the gun away and left the abandoned office.

Albin smiled as he nodded to his 'friend'. "My thanks, comrade, for allowing me to land in this country."

"It is of no matter, comrade. May you prosper..."

The agent looked around the airfield for a while, and nodded. No one else was here. "I am sure I shall." The Imperial Agent drew his pistol and shot the fat man dead.

Varchak was seen around the city, going in and out of various buildings. All Imperial controlled and each time, Imperial Inquisitors surrounded him.

This was meant to put a fear into the people that one of their worst nightmares had returned. Riok Oran was bad enough... Varchak though, he was akin to Hades in legendary status.

The attention he got was all then directed at the Imperials. The Heir, Lady Tian, in particular. Lara could not answer them though. She was out of the loop and denied any knowledge that the Overlord was still alive. The fact more and more people were seeng him made her seem a liar and a cover up conspiracy rumbled through the city of Myer.

Varchak took a large chance of being positivly IDed when he entered Imperial Tower. He walked right through the lobby, surrounded by four Inquisitors and half a dozen gaurds. It left the whole lobby speechless. The cameras that would have seen his face clearly were offline, strangely. No one could figure out who switched them off, though...

---------------

The man in the hat walked the covered streets of the city, as the acidic rain poured down. He had been chasing Varchak all over the city. He gave up after an hour or so of being three steps behind and instead walked into a cafe. They had news about it on the vid-screens.

"-tings of the imfamous Overlord Varchak have been reported all over the city, but Lady Tian still denies that the former General is still alive. As some of our oldest generation will remember, Four Star General Davion Varchak was one of Crimmond's most decorated war heros, before Reil Tian took power from High Commander Andrew IV, deemed to have gone insane. He took jis army and fled across into Belarus and conqured himself an empire, which grew into Baggera quickly. Crimmond was stunned and tried to sieze Varchak for courtsmartial. So started to first war against Baggera, ending in the imfamous cold war and the No Man's Land borders."
