The Resquide Fact File (and background posts)

Resquide

I put all this stuff in the resquiden Embassy, but then that thread actually got RPed in, so I decided to make a separate thread. I'll also be posting things here which require no reply and don't seem to fit in other threads, yet contain information relevant to said other threads. And I think I'll copy and paste stuff like that which was in a legitimate thread which died so anyone who RPs with me needn't bother searching. Well, and so I dson't have to link. Cos I'm a lazy bugger. ANYWAY!

Resquide uses the metric system because I don’t know the other one. Having split off from a European country at its start a few centuries ago, it has no royalty and less old-fashioned things like class systems, although it does have servants. It is officially tolerant of any intolerance (racism etc) shown by other nations (MYOBP), although its own people tend to be divided on these subjects. This is not surprising as the government is a bureaucratic mess. Paperwork tends to cause many, many problems and mis-understandings, and crossed wires are common. The budding Diplomatic Corps is only slightly more together as it is young and has not had time to be infected with the dead wood and filing cabinets of other sectors.
The army, navy and air force were all built from scratch and thus are under combined command, which is good because otherwise they could never perform manoeuvres together because of disagreements and crossed wires.

Openly homosexual - this caused a few problems upon his entry into the political field at age 23, but his general open nature, sense of humour and charm meant that very few people really dislike him and all the problems were eventually circumvented. Unlike some people, he does not believe in “sex doesn’t mix with politics”, although this may be due to the fact that most politicians are straight or clinging to the coat-hangers. He has had no serious relationships with fellow diplomats, but several casual ones which were obviously not revealed to the general public. He prides himself on not allowing it to affect his political decisions. Former Ambassador to Communist Mississippi, appointment abruptly terminated due to lack of foresight on the part of superiors who did not take into account the prevailing homophobic attitude of the country. Circumstances relating to the dismissal of Garth Nequade. Taken from several different posts in the Resquiden Embassy thread.

Garth growled, interrupted in his game of darts (there would have been a face on the board, but her hated everyone in general, so he couldn't decide whose it would be).

He pulled an uzi out from under his desk, releasedd the safety catch and pointed it at the door. If they weren't legit, he'd blast them to hell and back again. If they were, he'd blast the guards away for letting them through without warning.

"Come in."

Evil commie bitch, always after something, thought she could sneak up on him with honey words and fingers, just like...

Suddenly Lucille was pressed against the wall by an incredibly strong hand at her neck, holding her at arms length. The muzzle of the gun was pressed to her forehead.

"I've had enough, slut! You don't walk into my office like you own the place, you don't come onto me like I'm one of your sleazy political shitbags back home, and you DON'T ignore me telling you to get out!" He snarled, his eyes bloodshot. His finger tightened on the trigger...

RING RING!

With a cry of rage he turned on the phone, neglecting to remove his finger from the trigger of the gun.

When he turned away from the pile of molten plastic which was slowly dripping off the desk and seeping into the carpet, the girl was gone.

The honourable Garth Nequade, Minister of Defense, had what might be termed as a mild hissy fit upon being notified of his imminent unemployment. Fortunately he had been disarmed before being called in, and only gave one guard a bloody nose before calming down and agreeing that hallucinating seductive women appearing in your office and firing a lethal dosage of bullets into a perfectly harmless telephone could be defined as signs of needing a break.

After sending him off, completely and thankfully weaponless, to his holiday house on the coast, the country's ministers gathered to choose a new Minister for Defense.

Lettice Hequesse, the Minister for Education, firmly suggested hiring a woman to take his place, but was voted down after the Minister for Justice, Edward Giremme, pointed out that agression was not entirely a bad thing, provided, of course, that it did not go as far as it had recently.

The Treasurer, Jonathan Parreque, was mostly concerned with lowering the salary for ministers, but was ignored as usual.

Eventually, after some argument, it was agreed that Stas Tolvedde was of sound mind and suited to the job, and the Prime Minister hurriedly signed all the official documents before retiring to his home, where a large dinner was awaiting him.

The neccessary paperwork was signed in triplicate, copied entirely too many times and sent out to every department, including the ones who really didn't need to know, but sadly missing some of the important departments entirely.

Another ordinary day in Resquide.

As the plane sped through the atmosphere towards Resquide, Damien Merterre recieved what is commonly known as a Sound Haranguing. He tuned out around the point where his mother started in on family honour, but was jolted back into reality by mention of the military.

"Wait, what?!" He demanded.

"You leave us no choice!" Exclaimed Rosabelle, his mother and Resquide's First Lady. "General Tennel needs a new aide anyway. You'll learn some discipline and maybe find yourself a career, because I hope to heck for the good of this country that you never end up in politics!"

"But- but" Damien spluttered, speechless. He'd never been threatened with anything this serious before.

"No buts, young man! I talked this over with your father before we left for the ball, but I thought maybe, just MAYBE you might surprise us and actually be civil for once, who knows maybe meet a nice young lady, even if she was a Sidhe or some such foreign nonsense! I mean, for heavens sake we'd have settled for you meeting a nice young MAN, but no, you couldn't manage it, not for your dear old mother, not for your fasther - the press will have a field day with this, you mark my words-"

"Mother!" Damien interrupted. "Enough! I've heard all this before! Alright? So what is it? The army or more balls like that? I choose the army, mum! Those things choke me! The total IQ of that entire room had to be something like-"

"Oh don't you start, Damien! You've made your choice. If I'm not going to, as you say 'go on' about your getting maried and being respectable, then you won't go on about how much you hate your social class. Honestly," She sniffed. "People in politics have got to have SOME brains, we are running the country here, you know."

Damien rolled his eyes, walked to the back of the plane, ordered a bottle of whiskey and sulked for the rest of the trip.

Richard Tennel was about forty, with a greying moustache and green eyes. He inspected the young man standing in front of him and sighed. "Well, I suppose you'll do. Had fun at boot camp?"

Damien scowled, but saluted. He'd learnt a bit, and it was somehow not as abd as the endless balls and social gatherings his mother had put him through.

"Right then, private Merterre - I'm supposed to be training you to be my aide, although you'll obviously do regular training with your regiment, that's under... Lieutenant Gvessene, I believe. I'll just fill you in on the chain of command here. I answer to Stas Tolvedde, the minister for Defense. Below me are the heads of the Navy and the Airforce - both smaller departments than the army, not that that's saying much with recent cutbacks, and also generals, although under my command. That would be General Chan and General Mollenne. After that - well, you should know a bit about ranks by now. As my aide, you'll have no commands officially, but you carry my orders to people and you'll have a lot of security clearance. That is, after you prove your worth."

The General looked at him strenly. "I hope to see more co-operation here than your mother tells me of to date. Welcome to the army, kid!"

Damien could think of nothing else to do but salute again.
