I think it is both arrogant and biased to either nominate or vote for yourself. Especially with how many puppets exist out there. Granted, seeing as there is no way to moderate that ... meh.

I've said it before, I'll say it again - you appreciate someone's work? Tell them. There's no need for silly competitions like this, especially given how many different successful writing styles there are on NS. What it comes down to is ego and groupy-ism too often, and I don't think that's terribly conducive to continued friendly rp and all.

There are TONS of good rp's/characters/shorts/etc out there if you take the time to look. There are many different sorts to choose from. It's near impossible to compare them all on account.

At any rate, carry on if you like. I'm sure someone will have fun with this. I simply won't be participating for the reasons I've stated. I respect far too many writers and rp'ers on here (and yes, some of you might be very surprised just how broad a scope that covers) to pit them against each other in this sort of pointless one-upsmanship.

So I guess we should just also completely eliminate the Oscars, the Nobel Peace Prize, and the likes? It's only something for entertainment. It's not meant to be something crude or instigating.

Well, you do have a point Nathi, but I was not thinking of it in that way.

I was thinking it to be fun and just so people actually get to see other people's work. I search and take the time, but I have a real life and miss things. Great things. It gets to be too far into the story and I do not have the time to sit in front of the computer reading.

I hope others do not feel this to be cruel in any way. I just want people to have fun and just be aware of others. Just like Tarl said should we get rid of the oscars cause feelings might possibly get hurt.

Probably - the Oscars are a joke, frankly. I think we've all be disappointed more than once on decisions there. Entirely too much politics. Nobel Peace Prize? Come on now - none of our writing here is doing -that- much for the world in general, so don't lets get silly. *grins*

I'm not trying to be cruel. I'm stating an opinion. As I said, do what you like. I just pointed out my reasons for non-participation and why I think this is less than helpful in fostering an enjoyable playing environment given past performances and the usual politics that do go on in the forums, like it or not.

Those that wish to participate will. Those who don't, will not. My opinion shouldn't keep anyone from doing what they want to that way, no? I'm just one of many after all, and frankly, my opinion doesn't matter any more than anyone elses so ... as I said before, in case you missed it - play on.

Well, it obviously means something to you that is your opinion, otherwise you would have not stated it so.

I mean if you didn't really care about it then why post anything at all. I take into consideration what you are writing and well just like it is role-playing that is all then feelings shouldn't be hurt and it all can be in fun.

Why even bother in pointing out your non-participating mood then if it did not matter?

Your opinion may not be better than anyone elses, but it does play a powerful role in what people decide wheither you like it or not. I mean don't deny that most people in NS know who you are and respect you and might actually change what they are thinking because of what you say. I know I have changed my mind before after listening to what people say. So, do not think that it can manipulate what others might do because you cannot know what they will think and do.

My question is again, why point out that you will not participate in this, why not just ignore it?

For the simple reason that I thought it merrited posting said opinion to. No more, no less. I didn't say it didn't matter to me. I never said I didn't care, so please, try and not put words in other's mouths in order to try and make your case look better, or take on the role of persecution - that isn't the case here.

I really couldn't say what sort of pull I do or don't have on NS - it's not the sort of thing I tend to pay attention to. I stand by my statement that my opinions are worth what anyone elses on here are. If someone else lets their opinion be changed on account, that is their choice - it's no concern of mine. I'm sorry you take such an issue with the voicing of opinions that way. You also could have ignored it and taken it for what it was - a simple opinion - but you've chosen to make a bigger deal of it than needs be. That also is your choice.

I say again - to you and anyone else who might be reading. Do what you like, have fun with it if that's what moves you, and don't worry about it all if you think said opinion is either invalid or does not apply. Shouldn't make any difference, should it? For the third and hopefully final time ... play on.

I was not trying to make myself look better by any means. I also did not put words into your mouth. So forgive me for any assumptions that I had made, but do not forcome with your own. I don't know if you have some sort of vendetta with me, but I would appreciate if you let it be. Besides I was only responding to your original post, which most people would entirely respond back to because that is what we do on NS, unless well it is a story with only one writer and especially if it is ooc we usually respond.

I only share my opinions and ideas like you do, so that is why I am responding. It is not to make "my case look better". It is only to explain myself.

well, I think an rp contest would work, if done right. You'd need an impartial judge, maybe a panel of mods, and categories, because lets face it, there are lots of different styles and we should at least group them a little. People have different purposes in writing rps - some want to change their country's position, some want a bit of light humour, some want to orchestrate a romance, some have no idea why they're doing, my god it's ADDICTIVE I swear, come on just ONE more and then i'll stop.

...by the way, amanda, what happened to Serenity Keeper? I hate when good threads die.
