Unusual Border controls....

Giltheran

Giltheran had long known of a slight problem within it's security, unwelcome visitors from the 'Mainland' kept teleporting into the Island Kingdom, this it had been decidied long ago could not be allowed to continue, and research had been conducted into preventing this from continuing.

Now after long Years a solution seemed on the verge of being completed. The prime problem had been that while they had wanted to prevent un-authorised personal jumping in, they had not wanted to prevent Mages within Giltheran from using the spell themselves nor prevent authorised mages from entering...

The final solution was somewhat reminiscent of a Pass-Port as used by more advanced nations, every-mage wishing the right to teleport into and out of Giltheranhad to register their Mages-Rune, with the Towers of the High Magi, from these records a Runic Coin would be produced bearing the Mages Personal Mark, as long as the Mark and the Coin where recognised the Mage could enter Giltheran, otherwise in theory at least, they would be shunted off to a holding center, in a fold of Astral space, a Pocket dimension with only one exit, an exit under the complete control of the High-Magi.

Visitor Coins could also be produced to allow other Mages the basic effect similar to that of a green Card. All in all the so far it was the best the High-Magi research team had been able to come forward with, soon it would be presented to the Council for debate, although it did benefit from the blessings of both members of the Royal family and many of the prominant Magi of the Houses.

A Few issues still remained to be dealt with, Clerics for example did not have the advantage of a unique Runic-Symbol but it was felt a simple solution might be generated for such afflicted.

((OOC So does this sort of barrier effecting incoming and outgoing Teleportation either Magical or technological with this control system in place sound reasonable to people....?))

First, it's your world, so do what you want. Based on the fact that your world works with magic, this seems to be an elegant and workable solution to your problem.

OOC: What if someone doesn't need a runemark to teleport? Weyrean thaumaturgy uses adapted leylines to literally stream a user over the leyWeb as a data packet to a chosen location and then recompile said user. Granted, it's not something that's used frequently nowadays, and the fact that someone teleported by this method would be quite noticeable, but still...

ooc the idea is that the rune mark is not something you need normally to Teleport in Giltheran it is something that all our Mages have a Wizard mark that is uncopyable... So by using them as a means of Identification the protection knows to let them through.

However as no defense/border is perfect I have one or two ideas for the weak spots in the protection, it revolves around the Clerics and the 'Green Cards' which use a lesser Mages Symbol one who can't teleport mass produced. (By the lesser mage who gets paid a Rent on his personal mark) obviously these 'mass' produced green cards can be used by others but only briefly if it is discovered they have been breached the line is closed off. It's not felt too many Green Cards or Clerics will need the Coins anyway, so it's less secure as they are less common.

As I said anyway no system is perfect or at least no system in a game is perfect:)
