The Republic of Christophskiffer

Overview: Settled by Spanish and, later, French settlers in the 17th centuries, Christophskiffer became a colony of France when Spain seceded it in 1697. In the latter half of the 18th century, a nationwide rebellion of black slaves occurred and declared Christophskiffer a free republic. Through the 19th and 20th centuries however, the government freely opened its doors to settlers of white ethnicity in order to prevent their nation from becoming like the ethnically discriminating slaver state that preceded the revolution. Current division of ethnic groups stands at some 60 percent black, 30 percent white and 10 percent other groups. Relations are peaceful between ethnic groups, despite early hostilities caused by short-lived National Socialist groups. Current political issues involve improvements in equality between ethnic groups, currently still seen as moderately biased against white and other ethnic groups particularly in regards to employment prospects.
Economy: Predominately involved in Primary commodity export, particularly bauxite, copper, calcium carbonate, gold and marble. Current economic issues involve low economic development due to dependence on primary goods suffering from price volatility and low investment of capital due to a lack of enterprise.
Government:
Government based on Republic system with a democratically elected House of Congress made up of Representatives of each settlement (40 in total), and Presidential system elected by popular vote. Cabinet appointed by President.
Current Positions:
President Daniel Vosselieu (C)
Vice-President Jennifer Bonaparte (C)
Secretary for Internal Affairs: Samuel Chang
Secretary for War: Amy Farrow
Secretary for Foreign Affairs: Jacques Devoir
Secretary for the Economy: Peter North
Secretary for Race Relations: Danielle Bonaparte
Secretary for Public Information: Gregory Danke
