Champions League/NSFA Cup: The Revival, Year 2 [signup]

Kaze Progressa
21-12-2004, 16:44
The Champions League returned recently to more than respectable enthusiasm. From South Ossetia to St Manus, a whole new wave of nations experienced the excitement and intensity of international club football.

Now it expands yet further. The NSFA Cup will provide a second-tier club tournament to provide even more clubs from even more nations the opportunity to experience top-quality football.

At present the structure is as follows:

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Qualifying round: 16 teams; 8 two-legged matches (with away goals, 30mins extra time and penalties to sort ties). Winners progress to group stage, losers enter NSFA Cup second round.
Group stage: 32 teams; 8 qualifiers plus remaining 24 teams. Play home and away, with top two progressing to the round of 16 and third-placed teams entering the NSFA Cup fourth round.
Round of 16: 16 teams. 8 two-legged matches as above.
Quarter-finals and semi-finals act in same way; final is a single match in a stadium chosen by the host nation.

NSFA CUP
First round: 48 teams. 24 two-legged matches as above.
Second round: 32 teams [24 first-round winners plus 8 losers from Champions League qualifying round]. 16 two-legged matches as above.
Third round: 16 teams. 8 two-legged matches as above.
Fourth round: 16 teams (8 third-round winners plus 8 third-placed teams from Champions League group stages). 8 two-legged matches as above.
Quarter-finals, semi-finals and final act as per Champions League.

Sign up your nations today. Once the current Champions League is completed, signups will close, and nations will be told how many teams in each competition they can provide as well as where they will enter.

We will also need two nations to host - one to host the Champions League, the other the NSFA Cup. If interested in hosting either, please mention this in your post. (Mention if you want to host one specific tournament, or whether you are happy with either. The final of each tournament will ICly be held in the chosen stadium of the host of that tournament; e.g. Kaze Progressa is hosting the CL1 final in the Progressair Stadium.)

Naturally, Kaze Progressa enter, although they will not host this time.

Sarzonia enters both but will not put in a hosting bid until it can master CSS. (OOC: Trying to figure out the darn formulae).

OOC question: By second tier, do you mean this is for the also-rans in the league or should the championship-level teams compete?

OOC question: By second tier, do you mean this is for the also-rans in the league or should the championship-level teams compete?

Basically, teams can't compete in both. Apart from that - well, it's usually the third or fourth-placed in the league, or the cup winners.

Anyone who was going to decide on their entries: don't. Yet.

Keep on simming your domestic leagues, keep on RPing this Champions League. You will receive a TG on the day after the CL final telling you how many teams are entered in each competition; the reply should then state which teams these will be.

*points Melmond to this - it's still gonna take a while for the first CL to be finished, so it might be useful to wait a bit with the entries* :)

I don't quite understand how this works could someone provide more info and then sign me up?

Essentially: results are generated similarly to the World Cup, but this competition involves club teams. They compete in two separate tournaments (the Champions League and the new NSFA Cup). Once the signups are complete, prepare for a TG inviting you to select your teams.
Starblaydia
22-12-2004, 14:47
Starblaydia signs up, of course.

A friendly bump that I'll use to confirm a few things regarding the (provisional) structure:

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: 40 teams:
* the top 8 nations (by the new NSFA Coefficient, as developed by Cockbill Street) provide two teams (the top team from each, plus the second team from the top four, auto-qualify for the group stage);
* the next 12 nations provide one team, which also auto-qualifies for the group stage;
* the next 12 nations provide one team, which must face the qualifiers.

NSFA CUP: 48+ teams:
* the top 20 nations provide two teams;
* the next 8 nations get one team each;
* further teams are added to qualifiers if needed. Successive lowest-ranked teams from other nations are forced into the qualifiers too, so that 48 teams are present for the first round. (example: if 53 teams enter, the lowest ten nations must face the qualifiers).
Giant Zucchini

Cockbill Street
23-12-2004, 17:57
(by the new Club Coefficient, as developed by Cockbill Street)

And to give people an idea what this is about:

Each team earns points as follows:
Points per game in qualifying (3 p.p.g. for teams who have auto-qualified)
+ Points per game in group stages * 3
+ Points per game in knock-outs * 5 (assuming, here, that everyone plays seven games - saves having to give bonus points)

The nation score is the points that their teams have earned divided by the number of teams.

After the group stage, the NSFA Coefficients look like this:

Kaze Progressa 10.50
Rejistania 9.25
Liverpool England 8.50
Turori 8.50
Audioslavia 7.25
Jeruselem 7.25
Bedistan 7.00
Vilita 7.00
Sarzonia 6.75
Dance 2 Revolution 6.50
Kingsford 5.00
Starblaydia 5.00
Giant Zucchini 4.50
Aquiliana 3.50
Cockbill Street 3.25
Raptor Claw 3.25
Big Pimento 2.75
The Belmore Family 2.25
Sliponia 1.75
South Ossetia 1.75
Celtico 1.00
Druida 1.00
St Manus 1.00
Nonesuch Street 0.50
Nova Britannicus 0.50
Wapahkoneta 0.50
Adam Island 0.25

A team is able to earn 15 points in the knock-out stages, but a nation probably won't be able to earn more than 13 (as it's an average). The maximum for a nation would then be somewhere around 25 points.
Lethislavania
23-12-2004, 19:32
Lethislavania would like to send a team as well. It currently looks like the Kratu Wave will win the championship this year, albeit we still have the playoffs to go.

For the simple reason that Hiiraan didn't participate in NSCL1. However, there is a possibility that the Club Coefficients will be mixed with KPB nation ranks. Stay tuned for more on that.

Is it too late for Ballycrap to sign up? We found our missing three players in the pub, so we're ready now.
Kaze Progressa
24-12-2004, 12:22
It isn't. And somehow I sense some funny RPing now!

All teams posted up to now added. Signups will continue until the New Year weekend at least, and in all likelihood beyond (the final cutoff date will be the Champions League final, probably in the second week of January.

Incidentally, the current working model on the Club Coefficient is that 10% of the KPB nation ranks will be added.

Dear Football Association of Kaze Progressa. As Overseeing Nation of the Domestic Club International Champions League system, we formally request of you to ignore the entries of the Lovisan nation into your competition. The grounds of this request are simply in eye-for-an-eye tradition, in that they have started by completing ignoring the competition to begin with, by failing to so much as read the application in which they are filling out. The Lovisan nation has a history of such actions, and some sort of penalty (No team in the Champions League, perhaps, with one in the NSFA) should be in order.

Its not fair. I apply my teams, but Vilita cant decide who start or who no. This is only propose my teams. Yes I know before I didnt start, and I know my teams must start in qualifications, but Vilitan FA cant says "ignore the entries of the Lovisan nation into your competition".

thanks

I won't punish them, for a simple reason - they weren't the only ones.

Lovisa's teams are taken as provisional entries but confirmation will be made at a later date. (Perhaps the punishment could be having someone else - me, perhaps - scorinating the Lovisan Extraliga?)

This will be known for certain once the signups close on the day of the Champions League final (Friday 14th).

The number of teams will depend on your NSFA Coefficient, which is calculated on Champions League performance and added to a proportion of your KPB rank. It will also depend on how many other teams enter. Incidentally, there are 33 at this point.

Signup closes Friday. CL2 will be run by Liverpool England and the final held in the National Stadium; the NSFA Cup will be run by Cockbill Street and the final held in the Vimesbairn National Stadium.

Those of you who are picking your teams now; they're provisional but be prepared to change them as there may be varying numbers. Rejis especially might end up with more. Those without an idea of teams could do a league simulation in the next few days: the best program in my view for this is Leagion, a new version of which is just out.

Incidentally, 35 nations have signed up.

The signup for it has CLOSED.

TGs are being sent tonight. You will be told how many teams you have in each competition, and the number of bonus points you have to allocate to them.

Your base score will be your KPFA rank. (This is zero if you did not enter the first Champions League). Your bonus point total is 5% of your national team's KPB points total, multiplied by the number of teams in all competitions.
