"Chimera Staryard this is NCT-5205 we are on final approach carrying armor plating..christ this is our ninth trip this week what the heck are you guys up to?" The lengthy transport had launched from Brooklyn Terra to Space terminal carrying an assortment of gear but mostly armor plating to the space city/space yards of Chimera. There had been a torrent of activity as of late as transport after transport carried materials up from the surface to the space station. Materials had been diverted though and so a lot of the materials generally used in the cosntruction of warships had been literally dumped in one area of space and put under the protection of the 3rd Federal Space Fleet which had the dual job of guarding Chimera.
Construction vessels, Frigate sized warships had been moving back and forth between Chimera and the area designated as Hydra Point. Of course the materials which had already been assembled looked like the outer skeletal structure of Chimera Star Yards. Even with the expansion of Chimera to accomodate more berths to construct, repair and modifiy warships politicans and military officals in NYNJ deemed the shipyard to be overcrowded and a new fleet rally point was needed to double the speed of fleet wide modifications and double the production yield. Of course the cost was still astronomically high, yet only a third of what Chimera cost. Many of the techniques and technology used to build Chimera were now standard and less costly than when they were original devised.
However while one project was underway Chimera got to work. Christmas would be interrupted this year for a brief period by a massive expansion project not seen in several years. The navy had ordered the construction of nearly a hundred and twenty warships to add to the Federal Navy. All of them belonged to the expensive Imperator light cruiser line of warships. Costing nearly 21.5 billion a warship the building project was supposed to be carried out using a plethora of funds from projects around the country. Military officals had called in plenty of favors to get the warship construction project off the ground and now it appeared as if things would come to fruition. (This project is expected to finish Februrary 25th with a rate of 14-16 warships put out an IRL week)
In the meantime though NCT-5205 would continue to make runs from Earth to Chimera. Keeping the shipyard and Hydra Point stocked with materials along with 60 other small shuttle like Navy Cargo Transports which were used at maximum numbers only when Chimera had run dangerously low on materials. Now was an exception to that rule. The navy wanted more warships and this is what it was getting.
