The governing council of Mirfak III passed legislation today requiring a reasonable standard of working conditions for its labor force, but severely limiting their ability to unionize or otherwise demand increases in pay or benefits. The law denies workers any protection under the law by recieving job protection from the government and essentially gives employers the right to fire dissenting employees on the spot. This move, while presented by the government as beneficial to the economy and the operation of the state, is being protested by many as an infringement on basic worker rights. Regardless of the public view, the council, led by the increasingly autocratic Petrovich Kolani, has shown little willingness to negotiate; hightening fears that the unionist promise of democracy will disappear under the rule of a man who now seems to be in sole control of the government's operation.
