Anyone who has read Dune and is capable of decent roleplaying is officially invited to join in this Dune RP.

The story, as it stands now, is set one year prior to the events of Dune. House Harkonnen still controls the planet - but not for much longer. A war is brewing between the Fremen Clans, and Harkonnen spice production will suffer for it. In this RP, we will unveil the wheels within wheels that were to turn House Atreides from a Duchy to an Empire.

Current Players:
Five Civilized Nations: House Atreides
Mauiwowee (and Crystal Palais?): House Harkonnen
Monocanjh: House Moritani
Ageaol: Spacing Guild
Ysabol: Bene Gesserit
Gelfland: Bene Tleilax
Camel Eaters: Sietch Tur'kal
Urukku: House Corrino (but may play as a Fremen Sietch if necessary)

Another Sietch is what we need most of all, but as long as you have something to add that will enrich the story, feel free to join in.

I'm interested, but it has been years since I've seen the Dune movies. Either way, I'll be a Sietch.

Excellent, we finally have the second sietch.

This invitation will remain open for two more days- Saturday will be the last day I accept new players. After that, we will begin preparations for the RP. There are no more factions required, but, as always, if you think you've got an idea that will enrich the story, pick an unclaimed faction and join in.

If Crystal Palais is still interested, I'll "split" house Harkonnen with him. I'll RP the Baron and he can RP Rabban on Arakis itself. I'll do the "political" stuff in the Landstraad and he can RP the fight on the planet. OK?

OOC: I offer this as I will be out of town and without a computer from Dec. 20th until Dec. 27th, I can RP some "orders" to Rabban before I leave and then we can have time go by before the Baron hears how well or how messed up Rabban has made things. Plus I'd need time to plan strategy in the Landstraad and to deal with Duke Leto's "touchy/feely" way of doing things. :)

I TGed Crystal Palais to see if he/she/it still wants a part of the RP. If CP agrees, then we'll just work out the basic plot and start up the Roleplaying.

Yes, I'll be glad to participate as Rabban. Someone's got to be the bad guy on the ground, after all. Though I'll be absent a few days before Christmas, must get a new car that happens to be a thousand miles away, but other than that... should be interesting.

Though, uh, if Shaddam happens to come in and decapitate me for incompetence later on, any chance I might be able to get someone else to play as well? :D

(Also, I am a he. And now you know... the rest of the story.)

OK, since everything seems to be working out well with the various players and such, let's get this show on the road. Seems like both Harkonnens are going to be out of town for the first week, but that shouldn't hurt us two much, since this is going to start as a local fremen war anyway. The basic plot is still a water-war between two Fremen clans that escalates into a galactic incident I believe, so if our Fremen players our ready, we should be able to begin.

I am interested in playing as a sietch but I have to admit it has been many years since I have read the dune books.

OOC: Before I go:

IC:
Rabban:

The Spice must flow! The Landstraad is concerned about your ability to assure a steady supply. Fade is here and ready to assume your place should you prove incompetent.

The Baron.

OOC: Well, since this sounds like it'd call for a fairly generic post and I don't leave until tomorrow, here you go. I'll be back sometime next week. Basically this'll just add a bit toward the Harkonnen hostility toward the Fremen, but then again, no one outside of the Fremen has any clue that there are more than a few scattered establishments at this point, right?

IC:

Rabban narrowed his eyes as he read the message again. The messenger had said it was for Rabban's own eyes only, and the fact that the Baron Harkonnen was once again trying to squeeze more spice out of Arrakis. It was no surprise, really; such messages were not particularly rare and even seemed to have regular intervals, but none were so curt, none so directly threatening. None stating that the Baron was threatening to put a sixteen year old in charge of Arrakis who seemed to prefer spending his time fighting the slaves back on Geidi Prime - Rabban knew that Feyd-Rautha was his brother, younger by more than a decade, and as he was Harkonnen blood he could be seen as a candidate for na-Baron. This could not be allowed, yet Rabban dared not make any moves for fear of his uncle's wrath. Beside, Feyd was still young and impressionable. He could be perhaps maneuvered into looking up to his older brother... and if not, perhaps he would still find his end in the slave pits. There were many houses jealous of House Harkonnen who might stoop to such levels.

Rabban crumpled the message back up and threw it back at the messenger, who remained stone-faced while the ball of paper bounced off of his chest, stalking away from him, then pacing the length of the throne room, trying to figure out how to word his reply and yet not anger the Baron. He paused in his walking, a smile beginning to spread across his face. He turned back toward the messenger, who remained stone-faced - but surely that smile meant someone was going to suffer. Perhaps the only good point was that Rabban had the brains enough to recognize the value of a good messenger... though not much more than that.

"You may send a message back to the Baron... inform him that we have met all spice quotas from the Lansraad, but if he wishes it, we shall begin conscription of the desert rats and bring them into the spice mining crews... preferably the ones in areas where we have more problems with the worms than usual," Rabban stated. "And invite our lord Baron to visit our spice production facilities any time he chooses, if he has free time in the future." The Harkonnen sat down on the throme, his expression becoming almost one of boredom.

The messenger bowed and replied, "Yes, my lord," before striding out of the room to prepare the message for sending.

Well, Five Civilized Nations is House Atreides, so talk to him.

Anywho, I'm going to start up an In-Character Only Thread and an OOC-Only Thread for the RP, titled Sands of Dune, since that should serve us pretty well.

OOC: Shouldn't we have someone RP the role of Dr. Keynes, the Royal Ecologist too?

IC:
The Baron read the reply from Rabban and scowled briefly, but then smiled and thought "good, I got his attention, threatening to replace him with his brother, Feyd, was a good idea. I've got other plans for Feyd though - lovely Feyd."

calling over a house slave the Baron looked at him and said "would you like to be free of all care, all worry, forever?"

Stammering the slave timidly said "yes my lord baron."

"You shall have your wish then!" said the Baron and he reached out and tore the heart plug from the slave's chest. He savored the gush of blood, the ectasy of a young boy's life washing over him. He laughed and then he yelled as the slave collapsed, dead, but free of care and worry forever, he kept his promises he thought.

"Get Feyd up here now!!!"
