Orbital Smackdown GTSS

Has your nation experienced more than it's fair share of orbital bombardments or invasions? Have you failed in most of your defense systems? Well, we would be glad to help you out, but unfortunately, we're not selling the... ORBITAL SMACKDOWN!

The Orbital Smackdown 5000 GTSS (Ground-to-Space System) is the latest creation to emerge from the desks of Hammerian Weapons, Incorporated. The laser-based OS5K is more than enough to hold off a small spacefleet while reinforcements are en route.

Power for the OS5K laser array are provided by a single small fusion reactor in the body of the weapon. The main choice of ignition material is deuterium-tritium, chilled to a few degrees above absolute zero, coating a small 3mm plastic pellet. This D-T substance is contained in a very small (6mm in diameter and 10mm long) capsule made of either gold or lead. An ignition laser is sent into the ignition chamber, and focused onto the small capsule. The laser energy is converted into thermal x-rays, heating and ablating the substance, causing an implosion. The resulting heat is converted to energy and is used in the 8-laser Nd:YAG laser array. The eight laser beams are amplified and focused into a single laser beam that is emitted through the barrel, whch is one meter in diameter. The resulting laser is more than enough to down satellites and spacecraft, either melting the hull and causing explosive decompression, or melting/heating the fuel tanks, causing a massive explosion.

The statistics of a single weapon are as follows:
Length: 31.5 meters
Width: 9 meters
Height: 7.5 meters
Laser Power: 150kJ
Cost per unit: $2.4 Billion (Not for sale, never was, never will be.) (Cost for each complex, including six cannons and the control center, is approximately $15 billion)
Ignition Materials for Fusion: Deuterium-Tritium (3mm pellet)
Time from Ignition to Firing (TIF): 5 billionths of a second
Reload time: Two seconds (Another capsule is automatically sent from the capsule bay to the ignition chamber)
Capacity: 200 Capsules
Cooling: Frictionless Liquid Helium

The Orbital Smackdown 5000 is a mostly rail-based cannon. Multiple complexes are currently being designed, with special rails for multiple cannons circling the control centers of the complexes. Two of these complexes will be built on Hammerian Earth territory. Four complexes will be built on each colonized planet in the Nordlund system. Rumors are floating around about an Orbital Smackdown being built on the Hammerian colony station, but these are not yet confirmed.

The Orbital Smackdown 5000 is just nearing the end of the research phase and will soon enter construction phase. Many can expect to see the two Earth complexes completed first, to ensure safety of the Hammerian earth territories. Estimates show that the Orbital Smackdown may be kicking ass on Earth within the next five to seven years.

Recent Announcement:

Addressed to all nations by the Director of Sales at Hammerian Weapons, Incorporated.

Many of you have heard of the Orbital Smackdown, a ground-to-space latillery/entillery (Laser/Energy Artillery) system. Due to the massive success during the prototype testing, minus a few rail-movement errors, Hammerian Weapons, Incorporated has received permission to market a smaller, less-powerful Orbital Smackdown system to the general military public.

Upon completion of research and development (Estimated 5 years), orders for three types of small systems will be filled. These systems are:

Orbital Smackdown I
Two meters long
.5 meters wide
.47 meters tall
Reactor Safety Threshold: 400 Gigawatts (One 3.2kJ Laser Array)
Capsule Capacity: 20 10mm (L) x 6mm (D) capsules
$200,000,000 per unit
TIF: 8 billionths of a second
Cooling: Supercooled Hexaflouride (F6)

Orbital Smackdown II
Four meters long
1 meter wide
.94 meters tall
Reactor Safety Threshold: 1 Terawatt (Two 3 kJ Laser Arrays)
Capsule Capacity: 50 10mm (L) x 6mm (D) capsules
$350,000,000 per unit
TIF: 6 billionths of a second
Cooling: Frictionless Liquid Helium

Orbital Smackdown III
8 meters long
2 meters wide
1.88 meters tall
Reactor Safety Threshold: 2.78 Terawatts (Two 6.95kJ Laser Arrays)
Capsule Capacity: 75 10mm (L) x 6mm (D) capsules
$500,000,000 per unit
TIF: 5 billionths of a second
Cooling: Frictionless Liquid Helium

Note: These systems are cannons and firing computers only. Control centers are not provided by HWI.

Thanks, and best wishes in all your endeavours.

HWI Sales Director

Note: These entillery systems are meant for large space nations only. Small nations will not be taken seriously, as these weapons are dangerous and powerful.

If you're in need of power generators, HWI will be happy to strip a cannon down to the reactor free of charge.

Sounds suspiciously like a certain "Omega Pulse" weapon developed in Valient.

Ill see you in the International Court!

Lawyers are no match against 150kJ lasers :P

And how does it sound like the Omega Pulse? I've never heard of Valient before. The name Orbital Smackdown was something thought up on an IRC channel.

(OOC: Just as clarification for those who don't have time to talk to me, but still wonder what the fusion reactor does, it provides power used in the eight lasers. The eight laser assemblies are amplified from 15kJ to 18.75kJ to provide 150kJ of combined laser power, and all are focused into one beam via mirrors.)

Note: The laser beam emitted from this weapon has an effective force of 150kJ. and is rated as a Class V Laser, with a 1032 nm wavelength (Invisible)

Do not look down barrel.
Do not point at walls and giggle.
Do not leave unattended (31.5 meter long laser superweapons are very attractive to children.)
Do not give away your firing passwords.
Do not give away your retinas (If substituting a retinal scanner for passwords).
Do not remove safety and warning stickers and signs.

Warning: Nd:YAG Lasers are not meant for marshmallows, hot dogs or hamburgers.

The prototype Nd:YAG Orbital Smackdown laser weapons have successfully passed the required testing, and then some, and will soon enter production. Hammerians can expect to see an Orbital Smackdown complex or two within the next one to two years.

Two full systems have already been produced, and the power of the emitted laser is amplifiable and user-controlled, varying from 10kJ to 20kJ per laser. The ignition laser for the fusion reactor is a high-power 25kJ Nd:YAG laser.

The final Orbital Smackdown 5000 system will not use rails circling the complex as a mode of transport. Each weapon will be fixed in place, and be retractable into a massive ground bunker, should an orbital barrage take place. Some weapons are being modified to ride on mobile transports for ground combat mobility.

More information will be provided as it is acquired.

As the first Orbital Smackdown 5000 systems roll off of the production line, HWI is focusing it's attention on the military-market Orbital Smackdown systems.

The Orbital Smackdown I, II and III systems are all Nd:YAG laser weapon systems. Nd:YAG lasers are not recommended for vacuum operations, as cooling is a major issue, hence the use of frictionless liquid helium and hexaflouride.

By purchasing an Orbital Smackdown system, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Hammerian Weapons, Incorporated, and the Hammerian Government, from all lawsuits and accusations.

Orders for an Orbital Smackdown system will be processed immediately, and fulfilled within six months to a year.
