Mirfak seeks unity. International aid called for.

The planetary government of Mirfak III has called for a reunification of the planet's seventy-four territories, which split up when the Socialist Republic abandoned their exile planet over two hundred years ago. The planet's disunity and constant state of warfare has reduced its original population of nearly thirty million to less than ten, and with the recent end of the fifth world war, many territorial leaders are calling for peace. In the past twenty decades, nearly all the planet's advanced technology has been lost, and territorial space forces have fallen far behind offworld contemporaries in both size and advancement. Newly-elected territorial governor Qoulek Pallanez, the leader of the still-remaining planetary government which now controls only a small chain of islands in the Nios Ocean, is contacting governments of nearby planets, solar systems, and sectors to request diplomatic and military aid in bringing the planet back under the control of a democratically-elected central government. "For too many decades have we lived in the shadow of destruction and despair," he said in a moving statement to a congregation in central Olink, where the planetary capital is located. "It is time for us to put our past behind us and once again become one unified nation. We cannot and will not make the same mistakes of our ancestors."
Concerned nations are being encouraged to send ambassadors to the capital, but have been warned to heavily escort any diplomatic arms they extend to the Mirfak system. "There are many territories who do not want this union," he said in his message, "and even the forces of those that do are not under unified or even complete control. Mirfak is a system that has not seen peace for more than two centuries. To end this force of disunity, unity must carry its own force. For your own safety, do not come to us unless you can defend those that you send." The best estimates of domestic and international agencies place the numbers of Mirfak's space forces at between five hundred and two thousand, with the vast majority of those being transport vessels and fighters/escorts. The few ships remaining are of frigate size and smaller. The unpredictable nature of these forces and the continuing hostilities both in space and on the ground make anything less than a full escort for any diplomatic convoy inadequate to ensure an acceptable margin of safety.

I thank you for your prompt response and heavy trust in my ability to command your forces. However, force alone is not adequate. If my planet is to be unified, it must be an equal affair. We will need neutral arbitrators, mediators, and overseers. As you may imagine, there is little trust between territories here, and in order for you to fully understand the nature of the conflict you are joining, I would encourage a meeting between myself and an ambassador of your nation in the capital of Mirfak itself. What we are attempting is essentially a world conquest, and is not to be taken lightly despite our good intentions.

Qoulek Pallanez sits in his conference room, disturbed occasionally by the decreasingly-frequent (thank the Universe) gunfire outside. The short, strongly-built governor discusses the situation with ambassadors from the thirty other unionist territories. "...There has been little change in the status of our endeavour as of yet. The Empire of Trixia has sent us a defense fleet, but that will be of little use to us. Our goal is still to capture the planet intact, not simply blast away our opposition from space. There will be a war, certainly, but in my opinion it should be held on the ground."
He is interrupted by the ambassador from Jin-rin. "As much as I admire your morals Governor, wouldn't it be more effective to simply destroy a few naysayers from orbit and then ask the rest to reassess their opinion? This planet's ground wars have claimed too many lives already. Unlike you, we have more than a small chain of islands to lose from this. Many of our governors control very rich land. Can we not dispense with the honorable warfare and take the high road?"
His interjection is greeted with a murmer of assent from the congregation. Pallanez sighs; he has known since these negotiations started that it would come to this. "Pinok tilal alarik," he mutters. "Pinok zek est innenal to konra."
The Jin-rin ambasador smiles mirthlessly. "Pinok. Por, tel seulit zek tekken mitakal."
The governor continues in galactic standard. "We need ground forces. We will try this the honorable way first. If that does not work, I will order the Trixian fleet to fire on the capitals of nationalist territories." The meeting breaks up and the abassadors go home to give their governors the request to begin gathering their armies together. Qoulek knows they won't like it, but they'll do it. He sincerely hopes that they will find more assistance from the olinal, the outsiders. Without the help of supplemental forces, he knows that the fate of any ground engagement is predetermined. The unionist territories simply do not have the forces to go up against the nationalist majority. He resends his message asking for aid to the surrounding sectors, hoping desperately for a reply.

A Eugorian ambassador has been sent to the planet of Mirfak along with 10,000 Eugorian Space Marine and Paratroopers, and a credit page signed by the CEO of ESDF R&D worth one trillion dollars at the Eugorian Space Defense Force Research and Development Store Front (http://s4.invisionfree.com/ESDF/index.php?). They are expected to arrive within two NS days.

I deeply appreciate your offer of credit and will keep it until the war has ended. At that point we will be in a position to establish space forces. Your ambassador is welcomed to Olink, as are your graciously-offered troops. I wish I could guarantee their safety, but that is not the nature of war. I fear that most of them will not return to you alive and unharmed. We will set up a communications link for your ambassador so that we can remain in contact with you and advise you of our progress in the weeks to come. Know that through your extention of assistance, you have made a friend in the Mirfakan planetary government and in me. When my planet is united again, I hope that you and I will be able to celebrate in our capital unberated by the violence that now plagues my people.

The Holy Empire of Albinoism has committed 3,000 elite ground troops and two Class II Zealot tank brigades to the cause of Mirfakan unity. As the day of engagement draws near, Mirfak extends a final appeal to its neighbors for any assistance they can render; be it economic, military, or diplomatic.

Be it known to the galactic community that this day, Earth calendar April 7, 2807, the planetary government of Mirfak III has declared itself sovereign over the planet Mirfak III in its entirety, as well as over the Mirfak System in its entirety, claiming the whole of all space within a five billion kilometer radius relative to the Mirfak star; including all four planets in the system. This claim is effective immediately upon transmission of this message, and it will be defended by elimination of opposition forces in the Mirfak System by any means deemed necessary by the planetary government of Mirfak III. The Mirfakan government acknowledges and declares its allies as follows:
-The Grand Imperial Empire of Trixia,
-The Holy Empire of Eugoria IV,
-The Holy Empire of Albinoism,
-The Mirfakan territories of Horkin, Loak, Innonel, Jin-rin, Portulik, Zion, Ansid, Enwel, Kio, Ti, Norlek-Zebbiodash, Ortulil, Gonn, Kenik, Wesnal, New Italy, and Xanth.

By this same token do we declare our enemies to be, by virtue of our cause and our goal, all those forces native to Mirfak that oppose by militaristic or otherwise violent or resistive action the claim of this legitimate planetary government to its aforementioned territories.
NOTE that a state of civil war now exists in the Mirfak System by the terms of the aforementioned claims and actions which have been made known to the governing bodies of Mirfak in its entirety.
NOTE that this message is considered fair warning by the planetary government of Mirfak III to any and all nations and spacecraft, foreign and domestic, that losses incurred on their property until a state of peace shall have been declared by this sovereign government shall not be the responsibility of said government, and all legal claims for such damages are forfieted.
NOTE that any foreign power that allies itself with our declared enemies or destroys in willful action any property of this sovereign government shall be considered to have committed an act of war against Mirfak III's planetary government.

All non-allied forces within the Mirfak System are hereby ordered to either depart from within the boundaries of our declared territory or surrender unconditionally to the planetary government. To those from without, we offer our apologies for this inconvenience. For our enemies, binekios ut sek.

Update: The war is progressing well for the unionist territories, and the first stage, a campaign to connect the geographically removed territories of Loak, Zion, Ansid, Enwel, Ti, Ortulil, Gonn, Wesnal, and Xanth has been completed, geographically uniting the allied territories. As was agreed prior to the start of the war by all allies, this state, which now occupies all or part of the former territories of Nonil, Jien, Din, Lafie, Carn, Zenibiopilik, Kues, Ander, and Quon as well as fourteen minor territories as well as its original holdings, has been formally redesignated the Republic of Mirfak, and that land title has also been conferred upon its holdings. The governing council chair, Qoulek Pallanez, has begun an ambitious campaign to capture the planet's main continent, thus crippling the outer territiories' ability to resist the unification process. The ground forces provided by the Holy Empire of Eugoria IV and the Holy Empire of Albinoism have been assigned to active frontline duty, as have the majority of Mirfakan forces. A defensive line has been established around allied territory on the planet, and will remain to protect against counterattack while the main force is occupied. The Trixian Imperial Defence Fleet stationed under the planetary government's command in orbit has been able, with the help of other allied space forces, to enforce a blockade of the planet and destroy any interfering enemy space forces while sustaining minimal losses. As the nationalist territories of Mirfak begin forming allied units to fight unionist forces, what has been an easy initial campaign for the planetary government is expected to become much more difficult when they invade the continent tomorrow. Pallanez has so far refused to publicly comment on the potential use of orbital bombardment in the war.

Update: After the failure of an initial landing attempt on the planet's main continent by unionist forces, governing council chair Qoulek Pallanez was overruled by his council and an orbital bombardment of key enemy targets on the coast has begun. Almost two thousand allied troops were lost in the attempt to capture Uiklin's east coast, nearly half those Eugorian. A second attempt is expected tomorrow, after enemies in the region have been neutralized.

Update: A second attempt by the Republic of Mirfak to invade the continent of Uiklin met with overwhelming success today after an orbital bombardment by allied Trixian vessels destroyed enemy strongpoints along the east coast. Infantry fighting has begun in earnest as the Republic's forces march west, and casualties are already beginning to mount on both sides. Though no official numbers will likely be available until after the war, current estimates by neutral observers place unionist casualties at 3,000, nationalist casualties at 7,000, and civilian casualties at 4,000. Updates will continue as events warrant.

Update: Today ended with a victory for both sides in the battle for control of Mirfak III. The unionist forces succeeded in breaking enemy lines and moving on to capture almost a quarter of the Uiklin continent, while the Nationalist Alliance of Sovereign Nations (as the nationalist forces are now calling themselves) succeeded in taking the Olink islands, capturing and summarily executing unionist leader Qoulek Pallanez. The Republic of Mirfak's council, most of which escaped the capital in time to avoid the invaders, has set up a new command post on Nibel, the only continent now completely controlled by the Republic. There was little break in the fighting after Pallanez's death, and now-governing council chair Petrovich Kolani of Jin-rin quickly ordered a full-scale bombardment of NASN-controlled Olink and the nationalist continent/territory of Saraban, the largest territory on the planet besides the united Republic. After the bombardment, which killed virtually all Saraban's government leaders, a quick surrender from a hastily-appointed governor of the continent was issued. Despite this, former Saroban army forces are deploying to protect their continent. Their lack of organization and infrastructure is greatly limiting their effectiveness in repelling the new front of the Republic's invasion, and the unionist forces are expected to take Saraban in its entirety by the week's end. Action in Uiklin has slowed as unionist forces switch tactics, defending their captures while Saraban is invaded with rerouted forces. With civilian casualties now estimated at over 70,000 due to heavy fighting and bombardment of the surface by the Trixian Defense Fleet, Mirfak III continues to be the place to not be in the sector.

Update: Uiklin is now fully controlled by unionist forces and the nationalist army crippled. The Olink island chain has also been recaptured, and Saroban almost completely subjugated. The unionist government under Petrovich Kolani is currently preparing to proclaim victory for his forces, as unionist forces move in on the final strongholds of the NASN on the continent of Corinth.

Final update (May 5, 2807): The war has ended, the Republic victorious. The process of securing the planet will certainly take a significant amount of time, as insurgents are dealt with and a new system of structure established on Mirfak III. Final casualties are estimated to be 234,000 total, including 1,614 of the Holy Empire of Albinoism's forces and 3,883 of the troops provided by the Holy Empire of Eugoria IV. Surviving forces from both nations have been sent home, but Trixia's defense fleet has been ordered by Petrovich Kolani to remain in the system to guard the new and fragile nation from outside attack while the situation is stabilized. Current estimates call for the fleet to remain for up to two years.
