Nanakaland's Third Age - The Road to Division
Introduction
A new age had dawned on Nanakaland - the Third Age. [Nanakaland was originally created in March, 2003.] After a mad scientist in the Nanakan Highlands froze the nation, Nanakaland had suddenly vanished from the international picture. Later, after the wonderful work of a moderator, the glacier that was once Nanakaland started melting.
Semi-immortal President Michael J. Smith, who was out of Nanakaland on a diplimatic meeting at the time, finally was able to return to his country. Smith, however, announced that he would not run for reelection in the upcoming election. Smith had won elections for decades and the Nanakan people didn't know who to vote for. It would be a close election.
The Underground was a group of people who were not frozen by the mad scientist like the rest of Nanakaland. They lived in secret and when a mysterious national leader called a "moderator" thawed out the ice cap that was once Nanakaland, the Underground thought that they had the right to rule all of Nanakaland. The Underground was defeated and many people thought that Smith was dead (even though the former president was still alive).
In the confusion, however, a minor party candidate who barely got on the ballot, John Williams, was elected. The former President's son, Thomas Smith, became Chief Speaker of Nanakaland and after an incident in which three Senators were killed, the Centrist party gained complete control over 2/3 of the Senate, allowing them and the Centrist-dominated Supreme Court to severely limit the executive branch, giving the libertarian President and Vice Presidient almost no power.

Carrier Evanston
Steaming SSW toward Port Yehoshua, West Cedarbrook, per Orders
1:32 AM
Sonar reports from destroyers guarding behind the Evanston indicate an Rijan class submarine of unknown nationality trailing behind at a range variably from 20 to 45 nautical miles. Communication ordered with the sub by commander of the carrier group.
1:39 AM
No acknowledgement from the unknown sub. Commander Evanston carrier group orders defensive measures.
Lagging submarine WCS Mitla fires two MK48 Heavyweight torpedoes at unknown sub.The neutral, unarmed, Nanakan observer submarine was torpedoed by West Cedarbrook. Its communications were temporarilly down because the system was rebooting after it was infected by a virus. Ironically, up to this point, the Reresurrected LoD Superpower of Nanakaland (a March 2003 nation recently resurrected with 2.274 billion and much influence in the Legion of Defense) was leaning against Witzgall and was even going to start action to get Witzgall removed from the Legion of Defense. As soon as the submarine's systems booted back up, they detected eight torpedoes from West Cedarbrook. The neutral, observation submarine was torpedoed 8 times, killing the entire neutral, unarmed crew. The unarmed submarine had just rebooted its system and thus had no chance to defend itself.
The neutral people of Nanakaland were outraged by the West Cedarbrook's warmongering navy destroying a neutral submarine and killing men from a neutral nation. The Nanakan people rallied around the story, and the huge Nanakaland military of 22,470,000 (which is only 1% of the population of the massive nation) prepared for a possible war. Diplomatic relations with West Cedarbrook and the other nations against Witzgall decreased and the Nanakan people called on support and permission of the Legion of Defense. If the Legion of Defense Council permits, not just Nanakaland would be involved, all of the Legion's Protectors with an avaliable military would be forced to join the conflict on the side of Witzgall. If it falls through, Nanakaland would not go to war, yet, but would be dragged closer to it....
[OOC: Next time, don't RP for the other person, especially if you don't give the name of the nation.][ooc: sorry...but I have to: HA HA]
General Neil and Field Marshal Clance's viewing of the missiles' devestation was interrupted when a soldier wielding a telephone walked through the steel doors which he protected. He handed the telephone to General Neil, and left the room with a salute.
"Hello?" spoke the General.
One the other line was Colonel James Cuhr, a man who overseas diplomatic relations with numerous nations. He told the men to watch WMNN for an announcement to scroll at the bottom. They hung up the phone, and General Neil told Clance.
"What was that about? News from the front?" asked Clance.
"No, something better. You'll enjoy this." replied Neil, "Watch the scroller."
A small, three sentence item scrolled along the bottom of the screen. It read as follows:
BREAKING NEWS: An Unarmed Observation Submarine, belonging to The Reresurrected LoD Superpower of Nanakaland, a neutral nation in the war currently going on, has been attacked. It was attacked by a submarine belonging to West Cedarbrook. The attack killed the entire crew, sources say. Here is a picture of the destroyed Nanakan submarine that has just come out:
http://www.time-engineers.com/Sub-Sunk.jpg
While the submarine doesn't look like all were killed, keep in mind that this is the ocean bottom and that big hole rushed in water. There are no survivors.
The Nanakan people are outraged. We accept your offer for compensation. It will cost $125,000 per crew member to pay for the funeral costs and the missing incomes to their families. There are 125 dead crew members, so that's $15,625,000 in total for the dead crew. I need $500,000 to replace sub (it was an advanced observation submarine). And I demand an additional $5,000,000 because Foreign Relations Minister onboard. And because you assassinated one of our officials, I need an additional $10,000,000. Also, there was some advanced obervation technology aboard (which I can publicly release and show you if you have any questions about it), which will cost $1,000,000 to test again.
That's a total of $32,125,000.
However, it's not that easy. Three important Senators were onboard the submarine, too, on a trip to learn more about the war. They were on the defense committee. Two of them were from the Libertarian Party (and the other one was from the Military Party), so their death swings the Centrist party (after replacement elections, of course) to have a 2/3 majority, allowing them to override presidential vetoes with just their agenda. So for knocking out those important Senators involved in war and allowing the Centrist party in the Senate to get more power than the libertarian president. That'll be an additional $150,000,000 for interfering with the politics of a neutral nation.
So the final total is $182,125,000. If you wish Nanakaland to remain neutral, the money must be paid by you and your allies.
[OOC: Nanakaland was deleted (originally March 2003 nation). Resurrected by moderator last month.]A new president was in charge of Nanakaland, a different one. An aide walked up to John Williams, a libertarian who was elected in the confusion of Nanakaland's last elections, and said, "Sir, I think I've got some reports that a Witzgall vessal is flying the flag of our Nation. We must warn the enemies and turn against Witzgall."
"But what of the people?" asked the President.
"Well, the Nazis are our enemies," said the aide.
"Very well," said Williams. "Open communications."
"No," said another person walking in. "The Senate has decided. You will not be able to communicate with the enemies of Witzgall. Any attempts to contact Witzgall's enemies with any news concerning the war will be Treason and we will not hesitate to impeach you. We can. The Centrist party owns the Senate. We own you. If you don't do what we want, you're gone. Senate Majority Leader Thomas Smith is the true leader of this country now. On that submarine you lost your chance to stop the Centrists from controlling 2/3 of the Senate."
"No," Williams said.
"Yes," replied the man who walked in. "Look. We have the majority of the legislative branch and 8 out of 9 on the Supreme Court. You are little more than a symbolic figurehead now."
"Is that a threat?" asked the president. "I can report you."
"No," replied the Senator. "This is a warning. Don't go against the wishes of the Senate. We are the true power of Nanakaland. Oh and don't try to veto a bill. We'll just go around it with a 2/3 vote." The Senator left the room.
[OOC: This is a private IC post. There is no way no one knows what exactly is going on in Nanakaland (yet).](correction made in red)
RP Start: Government Castle, Nanakapolis
President John Williams (no relation to Colonel Williams of another Nanakaland RP) relaxed in his room. Although there was a power struggle, he thought that it would pass. He thought, Eventually, this power struggle will end. So, he turned on the television in his bedroom to Nanakaland National News Network (NNNN).
"And in other news," an anchorwoman said, "the Senate has just announced the formation of the Senatorial Guard. Similar to the president's loyal Elite Special Forces, the Senatorial Guard is even more exclusive group designed to protect the Senate and senators from almost any threat. The Senatorial Guard is strictly trained to fight to the death and some say is even better than the Elite Special Forces, although lower in numbers. The president's reaction to this is not yet known."
The outraged president turned off the television. I'll show them, he thought. I'll simply stop the Senate from meeting in the historical Senate hall on the lower floor of Government Castle. That'd protect me and punish them.
Undisclosed Location, Nanakapolis
In a hidden apartment somewhere in Nanakaland's capital city, there was a a man working for a senator monitoring the President's room via a hidden camera. When that man saw that the president found out about the Senatorial Guard, he called up someone else, probably a senator. The senator notified the rest of the Senate and Nanakaland grew closer to a civil war...
[EDIT: OOC thread found here (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=380746).]
The message slowly worked its way through the ranks of the senate and soon reached the ears of General Paul Gage. He knew the moment was bitter sweet.
He knew that if civil war broke out there was no limit to what he could gain, but then again, no limit to what the citizens he used to fight to defend could lose.
Although he pittied the poor souls that would be affected tragically by the events that would surley follow he knew that those who had oppressed him and cheated him would fall. They would be nothing compared to the new rulers of Nanakaland.
As he continued to dream of the future a member of the guard entered his office. "Sir, now that our presence is public we must move you to a more secure location.
Gage nodded and stood up to leav the room. As they left through the escape door he heard the confusion outside. It was just what he hoped would happan, confusion.

Senate Majority Leader Thomas Smith went to enter Government Castle to proceed with the next day's meeting. However, at the entrance, there were five Elite Special Forces guards. One of them said, "I'm sorry. The Senate is no longer meeting here."
"But this is the ancestrial meeting place of the Nanakan Senate!" objected Smith. "We've been using this since before Nanakaland."
"Well, the President is the true leader of Nanakaland," said the guard. "He was elected."
"He was elected in the confusion," replied the leader of the Senate.
"Go!" shouted the leader of the group of Elite Special Forces. He pulled out a gun. Ten Senatorial Guards immediately showed up and drew their guns. More Elite Special Forces showed up. More Senetorial Gurads showed up. They pointed their guns at each other. There must have been dozens.
"Gentlemen, gentlemen," said the president, who just opened the door of Government Castle. "No fighting. Please just go away and find another place to meet."
"Sure," Thomas Smith replied. "But mark my words - the Senate will get back on you."
"Sure, sure," said Williams, doubtful. The guards of both put away their guns. Smith went back into his limo and Williams went back into Government Castle. Both slammed their doors shut and the senate majority leader drove away.
[OOC: Didn't need that bump. Was about to advance the plot anyways...]
OOC: sorry
IC: Gen. Gage was just sitting down to the news again as word of the problems between the Senatorial Guard and Elite Forces reached his ears.
Luckily for him he was high enough in the ranks that it wouldn't be totally unexpected that he contact Smith about it directly.
He turned to one of his personal guards and asked him to find out where Smith was. Then, he instructed him to get Smith on the line so he could ask where the new meeting place would be and what an appropriate course of action would be.

There was a bunker in an unknown foreign nation. Most of the nation was bombed out into rubble, but the national leader and a few hundred survivors were in the bunker. An advisor walked up to the leader and said, "All of our nation lays in ruin except this bunker, our military has been defeated, and the enemy is closing in. We only have about one hundred people who can defend this bunker and they have well over a thousand. We're pretty much doomed, but I have good news!"
"What's that?" asked the national leader. "Is help on the way? Is the enemy pulling out?"
"No," replied the advisor, "I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to-"
Thomas Smith switched the channel on the television, saying to himself, "Commercial."
"Wind newb, fire newb, earth newb, sea newb, and now introducing space newb," said the announcer. "Their power combined summons Captain Newb. They fight destructive n00bs all over NationStates."
Smith changed the channel again, saying, "Foreign show."
"Welcome to NNNN - Nanakaland's number one news channel," said an anchorman. "Here are our headlines. The tensions grow between the Senate and the president as in the latest twist the president kicked the Senate out of Senate Hall in Government Castle. A five-year-old boy survived an attack of vicious nanakabirds. The government said they'd look into the latest nanakabird attacks. In other news, Nanakaland plans to build a huge multipurpose sports stadium in one of the many events to resurrect international sports in Nanakaland. The Nanakaland soccor team in a friendly match against the Belmore Family-"
Tom turned off the television as he heard his phone ring. He waited until the third ring to make the person thing that he was busy. "Hello," the Senate leader said. "Who is this? I've been... um... working."
[OOC: Sorry for the delay. Was sick.]
"Gage here. I just heard about the situation. Theres bound to be more of what we saw today. It will just happen more frequently as time goes on.
"I have taken the liberty of assembling a small force. Actually its a rather large force, but, appearently we aren't exactly accepted at this point, we must do something and fast. Some sort of satement has to be made.
"I was hoping we could set up a perimeter around a known spec ops controlled area and flatten some of those oppressive minons. As you well know, I ran a Spec. Ops. squad back in the day and I will appear and disappear like a ghost. All I need is your order.
"Think about about it and contact me when you decide. Oh, also, don't bullshit me. you obviously weren't working. I sensed your hesitation." The reciever clicked.

The Nanakan Forest
Michael J. Smith was dead - or so everyone thought. The former president was really in a log cabin deep in the forest where no one would look. He didn't need any security because few knew he was alive. Smith had television (just basic over-the-air so he couldn't be traced) and tried to keep track with current events. Smith knew current events - he just wasn't involved in them.

A secret strikeforce led by a commander whose name was confidential was under top secret orders from a government official of some sort. However, very little was known about this elite strikeforce or the mysterious commander of it. No one could know who sent the strikeforce. It could have been from the Underground, recently regaining power, in an attempt to eliminate the government. It could have been from the Senate, in an attempt to assassinate the president. It could have been from the president in an attempt to frame the Senate.
What was known is that at 0200 hours the secret strikeforce broke into Government Castle. Some Elite Special Forces were notified and, of course, opened fire. The president and his family escaped as the strikeforce was stalled. About half a dozen casualities were taken on either side. When the helicopter of the fleeing president and the sirens of the police surrounding the building were heard, the strikeforce left the building.
No wounded were left behind from the strikeforce. Those who were minorly wounded fled with the rest and those wounded too much that they'd slow down the team were shot by the strikeforce before the retreat. No one spoke. No cluse were left. The strikeforce was unsuccessful at assassinating the president, but it deeped the mystery.
The Senate denied sending the strikeforce, but no one knew for sure. No one knew about anything and if they actually did, they definately wouldn't speak. Anyone with enough money, power, or influence could have sent the strikeforce (and it could happen without the consultation of associates), but a motive would have been needed. It was one big mystery that was left - and Nanakaland was one small step closer to a civil war.

"Good," said the General*. "Very good."
"What do you mean?" asked the aide. "The team failed. The president is still alive."
"Oh, yes," the General replied, "but no one talked. All of the suspicions will be pinned on the Senate. After all, no one knows the Underground is back except for a handful of people and some rebellion groups in other nations." He laughed an evil laugh. "Yes. They think I died in that prison explosion, just like everyone else there. Only a few know that several minutes before then I was released on a clerical error. All records were destroyed. This one event will probably draw Nanakaland closer to a civil war."
"Too bad we can't get involved yet."
"Of course not yet. We have more pressing matters such as starting the international wing of the Underground. We'll be in the civil war and we can help spark it, but we can NOT be involved in the road to the civil war. All of the tensions, skirmishes, and the first battle will have to be someone else's doing. Though I have confidence that the Senate and president will not resolve their differences after this little incident." Someone else walked in.
"The spies are in place," said the man. "Now we'll be able to keep track of the Senate and the president's actions. We need to build up for now, but we're ready for later."
*The General is what the leader of the Underground is called because his real name is known to no one. This ties to the parallel RP (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=382525), which will combine to create a civil war.
As Gage was watching the news he learned of the assassination attempt. It was perplexing. He doubted the Senate had done it. It seemed uncharacteristic and too obvious for them to have planned it. He knew there were other forces at work here and he would find them.
After some deliberation Gage decided to screw orders and waiting for permission. He wanted answers. He had enough men at his command to allow him to set up a spy net. He called in Chavez, codenamed Shadow for the way he performed. He was given orders to gather a group of spec operation operators or fellow spies and report back ASAP

Port Nanaka, Nanakaland
"Fellow senators," said Thomas Smith, "I chose this place for the temporary meeting place of the Senate. I say temporary because we will regain Government Castle!" There were cheers. "And the Centrists will regain the presidency.
"This location is in Port Nanaka, the largest city in Nanakaland - as you all know. This is also further from the reach of the president and his loyalists in Nanakapolis. We will regain Nanakapolis, but until then this city is ours!" More cheers.
"There is a special guest in this Senate meeting," continued the leader. "He is General Paul Gage, head of the Senitorial Guard!" The room erupted in applause. "However, before he will speak in this meeting, I have one more thing to say.
"As some of you may know, the Legion of Defense is an alliance founded by this great nation. What you may not know is that I am the representative for Nanakaland in the LoD's Council. If this does come to civil war, which I hope it will not, the Legion will support our cause. I'll make sure of it." There were cheers among the senators.
Nanakapolis, Nanakaland
Meanwhile, the president was visiting Fort Nanaka, across from Government Castle. John Williams was in the middle of a speach to a crowd of soldiers. "So I ask you," he said. "Where do your loyalties lie? With the runaway senate or with the fairly elected president?"
"You were not fairly elected!" shouted a soldier. "You stole the election while the Underground was attacking Nanakaland from within!" The president ignored this one soldier. The cameras had already been turned off and the president was starting to walk away. The speach was done. However, instead of applause, the crowd was mixed. Scattered applause went with booing.
The loyalties were mixed. The soldiers and reservists had mixed loyalties and could swing either way. The marines and Senatorial Guard supported the Senate. The Special Forces and Elite Special Forces supported the president. However, the special forces and marines could still change. Only the Elite Special Forces and Senatorial Guard were certain of their loyalties. In divided times, the road to civil war was paved.
Port Nanaka
Back at the Senate meeting, the applause faded. Senator Smith told the crowd, "Thank you for your support. Now, here is General Gage." One senator walked out of the room. Many non-Centrist senators (including two surviving libertarian senators) had already quit the senate. They were, of course, replaced.
The more a minority candidate quit, the more Centrist senators were placed into office. Some minor-party candidates even switched to Centrist. At this time, 79 senators were Centrist, 15 were Military, 3 were Independent, 2 were Green, and 1 was Libertarian. Obviously Gage was met with applause. The one senator walking out was welcomed, actually, because now an even 80 were going to be Centrist (the senator that quit was from the Green Party).
[OOC: Now I'm leaving the conclusion of the Senate meeting up to you. Your character can say whatever you want. When your speech is done, the plot will advance.]
Gage gazed out at the croud, scanning it to look for faces he recognized. He found several scattered but he only knew a handful well enough to call them his friends. His position was obvious and would not change. He just hoped that he could get all those here to agree with him.
He straightened up and began his speech, "Members of the senate, I come to you today with a singular request. One that will benifit not only you, but the entire nation. I ask you to over-throw the president and all his supporters. This nation belongs to us!
"Several of you may claim that maybe if we avoid war this will all go away. That is not so. It is a simple choice; war or death! Seize the day my friends. Thwart your enemies and restore a good government to this nation of ours. Don't tell me you will let Williams and his cronies walk all over you. They are liers and cheaters. They should be killed and defaced not in office.
"Join me and my men in the fight for Nanakaland and you will not regret it." He had finished his speech and listened to the applause that followed. Was it the sound of agreement? Disagreement? Indecision? He didn't know. He could only hope.

After General Gage's speech, Smith came back on stage and dismissed the Senate for the day. However, nine stayed - the National Security Committee. Six of them were from Centrist Party, two were Military Party, and one was Independent. It was obvious where this group's loyalty lay. Senator Smith led them back to a small room off of the main chambers. After all of them (and Gage) entered the room, the door was locked so that there would be no intruders.
Smith said, "Fell free to sit down." He pointed to the large rectangular table. There were twelve seats. On the table, in front of every seat, name plates were placed. The one on the head of the table was labeled "SEN. SMITH." The seat to his left was labeled "GUEST" and the one on Smith's right was "GEN. GAGE." Everyone sat down, but the guest seat was left empty.
"As you may know," Smith stated, "we are on the verge of civil war. There is one point I disagree with Gage on - for the moment. That is that civil war should be done right now. First, we need to plan. That is why we in this room. Then we need to start skirmishes. After that, and only after that, we fight a first battle. We gain support and then can go on the offense.
"We have the navy and portions of the air force loyal to us. We have the Senatorial Guard and the marines, or so they claim. We can only count on the Senatorial Guardsmen for sure. The National Guard is divided - southern divisions (near the coast) tend to favor us while northern divisions (in the highlands and Nanakapolis) favor the president. We can expect little help from them, though. One thing we can count on is the division in the regulars and the reserves. They are divided not by geography but by ideology. If properly incited, some can join our ranks on the battlefield and weaken the enemy, who clearly has the advantages right now.
"Then there are the enemy forces. The Special and Elite Special Forces are both loyal to the president - although the elite are clearly much more loyal. Some defections to our side could be counted on in the non-elite, but the same can be said to the marines, whom could defect from our side. Maximum effect could be achieved by inciting those regulars that are loyal to the Senate on the battlefield to turn around and engage the president.
"However, there is one more thing that has to be talked about - war. We clearly do not yet have the resources or manpower for a full-scale war. That could all change after the first battle, but we still need to build up a little more. With careful planning, we can make it so the regulars loyal to us start fighting for the Senate and turning around to face the president's troops mid-battle in the first battle. We would need some way to tell them apart once they do this, though.
"We can plan here and now, but I do think that we will still be restricted to skirmishes. When the enemy engages us on the battlefield with large numbers, we come with our smaller numbers. We will fight to stand ground and keep Port Nanaka. Until reinforcements (those who join our side) come and surprise the enemy. Comments? Suggestions? More plans?"
[OOC: If Gage makes a few comments, that's okay. After that, we advance the plot a little instead of continuing this scene. Can't reveal too much.]
Gage smiled and looked at Smith. "I agree on all acounts ecxept you missed on huge advantage we have. Although we have smaller numbers we can still win battles because WE choose the battlefeild. WE choose when the war starts and where it starts. The enemy has to play by our rules. If we take the fighting to narrow streets and we employ snipers victory is much more likely.
"Those are my only comments. I suggest we get to planning."

Nanakapolis, Nanakaland
"Well, the 18th century philosiphers got it right - government is here because of a social contract," said a speaker, Fred Green, at the People's Accepted and Treasured Rights In Our Time Defenders (PATRIOT Defenders) meeting in the city park in Nanakapolis. "Thomas Hobbes said that by contract, people surrendered to the state the power to maintain order and the state must then agree to protect its citizens. John Locke took it one step further. He said that people have the right to 'life, liberty, and property' and that if the government fails to provide this, then the people can overthrow the government. I agree with that.
"I ask you this: what has the government done recently to protect your life, liberty and property? They are too busy quarrelling within. We need a new government - one that can defend our rights. How can that be done? Overthrow it! For the good of the nation! Try non-violent demonstrations first, vote for the new PATRIOT party's candidates next election. If this does not work, we may have to use force!" There were cheers.
The Secret Senate Meeting
The planning had continued about the upcoming civil war. That was until someone knocked on the door. A senator got up to the door to see who it was. It was another senator, so he was let in.
"I have urgent news!" said the senator who had just arrived. "Another element has come in - the PATRIOT Defenders have just stated that they want control of the government in a speach that just happened. There'd be no problem with that - we have a good hold on the Senate - but they clearly could become opportunists trying to take control - with force - if a civil war were to start. We can't fight a three- or four-way civil war."
[OOC: Tensions increase. After page two is over, it turns violent. Several pages will be on the first battle (probably pages 5-8) and then the civil war becomes full-blown. It needs to be dragged out because the parallel thread is slowing down a bit.]
Gaged rubbed his temples. "This leaves us with few options. We could befriend them, although it seems unlikely that either side would be satisfied. We could also attempt an assasination which may work out for the better. We could also either ignore them or choose to fight them, both poor decisions. I vote to assassinate a major leader of the PATRIOT Defenders and maybe even frame the president for it which may win us a temprary ally."
Nanakaland
07-01-2005, 02:37
"I think I'd prefer the framing the president method," commented Smith. "If it is going to be a multiple-sided civil war, we need a temporary ally and obviously the president or the unknown organization that hired the assassins wouldn't want to side with us. Then again, we can't really trust them..."
Gage grunts at the statement, "Who can be trusted? Its us againts everyone I think we should strike while we have the chance. What do you we suggest we do though, as you will have the final say I would like to know your thoughts."

"Well," Senator Smith replied, "We're not quite ready for the first battle. I even heard rumors that the survivors of the destroyed city of Ostotaure may also get involved in the civil war. I'd say let's have a bunch of strategically placed skirmishes that give us the upperhand in the first battle. I know just where to start..."
Gage was very pleased that the gears of war were finally being set in motion. "Give me a location and some objectives and I would be happy to command it personally."

"The government has set up strategic check points along many key places on the Nanakan highway system to prevent the smuggling of pretty much anything," explained Smith. "The problem with that is that the checkpoints are clearly loyal to the president. In recent times, many Senate-loyal guards have been replaced with more loyal guards. Some key locations have even been occupied by Elite Special Forces. If we are to keep a good supplyline, then we must gain control of these strategical locations before any major conflict starts." He pulled out a map of Nanakaland.
http://imagehost.biz/ims/pictes/189888.png
"Those red dashes across the highway system are the five checkpoints," Thomas continued. "The longer the dash the more of a garrison there is there. The three on the eastern highway serve as little more than roadblocks that prevent us from mobilizing a large number of forces to Nanakapolis. If we were to take out those three in small skirmishes, then we will be more even to the other side when the civil war starts. As you can tell, Nanakapolis is landlocked and the highways are the major ways in and out. We obviously hold Port Nanaka and they hold Nanakapolis.
"We can, if you want, also take a small force via the sea to the Nanakan Forest to mobilize a secondary force, but the forest has angry survivors of Ostotaure. Rumor has it that those elves may join in on the massive civil war. Nanakan Labs is semi-autonomous, but would favor the PATRIOT Defenders if a conflict were to start. The fifth side is probably opperating from a hidden village in the Northern Desert (the location on the map is obviously guessed). There is also a river we could take up to the Nanakan Highlands, but it would be a fairly long walk to Nanakapolis from there and it is not recommended that we divide our forces into three.
"What we should do first is take out the three eastern checkpoints in a few minor skirmishes. From there, our options should become more clear. We must keep most of our loyal soldiers at Port Nanaka for now and only send smaller, elite forces to take out the checkpoints. After this is done, it is only a matter of time before the first battle breaks out."
Gage got to his feet to get a better view on the map. "Well, I think we should divide our elite units and send half with me to Ostotaure and the forest while I give instructions to another force to take out the road blocks and checkpoints.
"My force will decimate any resistance in the forest so that as soon as possible we may ambush Nanakapolis from both highways, choking them of supplies and rendering them useless.
"In the forest I will simply suprise any survivors so that they may either surrender or be slaughtered in a pointless and quick struggle. For now I will send the troops to the checkpoints and will prepare a force to move into the forest in due time."
With that he turned and left the room.
Several miles away the Phantom Squad got the call and moved out. Their orders were simple and clear. Kill any opposing force on the highway, leave no survivors, don't allow any alarm to be sounded.
Squad leader Eddie Price euipped his team with SMGs and Sniper riles. They travelled far north to strike the checkpoints one by one starting with the most heavily defended. They soon came to the crest of a hill and saw the garrison. It would be the largest they faced that day.
Nicholas Weber was ordered to set up the single mortar the squad carried. It was fired and delivered a crushing blow to the garrison. The chain of events that followed would have seemed almost amusing were it not for the total carnage.
As troops scrambled to get their bearings each squad member filled their bodies with lead from their sniper rifles. Soon the utter confusion died down and they gathered their SMGs.
A second mortar attack sprayed smoke and sleeping gas. As the sillouttes of the masked soldiers appeared the momentary silence was halted with rampid gunfire as the first checkpoint was totally eliminated and no alarm was heard.
This strategy was used once more as only a single checkpoint remained. Apon the beggining of the strike the squad learned to their horror that a silent alarm had been sounded at the previous checkpoint. Were it not for the pathectic size of this checkpoint the battle may have been lossed but it was a succsess as the soldiers bagan the retreat back to Port Naka with their wonderful news.

The elves were in the forest. They knew that Gage was coming. They saw the ships landing before Gage even saw an animal in the forest. The Nanakan Forest was a giant forest in the southwest of Nanakaland. The elves could only be seen if they wanted to be seen. Ostotaure was like this. The elves worked hard and rebuilt much of the city. The city remained secret to any humans unless the elves wanted the human to see it.
There were so many twists and turns in the dirt paths in the forest that even with a GPS one could get lost. Even if someone found Ostotaure one day, if they went back the next they may not find it at all. Some said that the forest was a magic forest. It was probably just a huge, ancient forest and the elves employed trickery. The elves liked it confusing. They had a good sense of direction, so they weren't lost - only the humans that went looking for them.
On a wooden platfrom near the top of one of the trees, there was a lone sentry. He spotted Gage's ships and ran across a wooden bridge to the next platform. There was a confusing path of platforms on the tops of certain trees that led to sentry points throughout the forest. They were all linked by secret bridges, barely visable. If a human tried to follow the path on the ground below, it would be nearly impossible. The platforms of the south sentries led to the southern outpost, just south of Ostotaure.
It was possible for a resident of Ostotaure to never be on the ground in his lifetime. There was usually some path to any outpost or sentry tree. It made it safer because there was only one secret entrance to Ostotaure from which all must come or go. It was still unknown how the black helicopters found Ostotaure to torch it.
"The ships are approaching our coast," said the sentry to the head of the southern outpost. "Should we prepare our forces?"
"No," replied the outpost commander. "Do not engage them. They don't know we are here. They won't find us. They'll simply go through the forest. We are not ready for any conflicts yet."
"And the weapons they have?" the sentry asked.
"If they set up camp in or near the forest we can take some of their guns," the commander responded. "We know how to use them. We have the technology. We just don't have the materials to make our own guns. We're going to raid an armory if we enter any civil war. Weapons are our one weakness.
"Tell the other sentries to go to the sentry trees inside the forest and hide. Make minimal movement and sound. Try to stay away from the coast. They won't spot us if you're careful."
As Gage's ships landed he knew he had been spotted. It didn't matter, the elves were not his concern at the moment. He decided to camp just outside the forest so that an ambush would be less likely.
Gages forces were soon on land and setting up camp when Gage gave a contraversial order. He wanted shifts of 50 men armed with guns and napalm to be on guard all night. If a single elf showed his face his home would be burned to the ground.
Just as they were settling in for the night Gage received news of the Phantom's victory. He immdediatley telegrammed the news to Smith.
As the telegram was sent the sun dipped below the horizon and Gage new it would be a sleepless night as his fight was just beggining.

"Sentries," said an elven scout to his commander. "They have them guarding the camp. An attack will not be possible."
"Then guard the forest with our own sentries," the commander replied. "If we don't get in, then they don't get out."
"So all we can do is wait?"
"Correct."
"Can't we take any action?"
"We're outnumbered and out-weaponed. Even if we got all elves together to outnumber them, they still have the upperhand. We must wait..."
OOC: sorry for my extended leave, had to rally a few quizzes for a good report card.
IC: Gage gazed into the forest wondering what was instore for him there. He decided it best he didn't enter the forest yet. He wanted an outline of his force's objectives from Smith first.
He sent a message requesting either orders or permission to command his forces freely. He assumed both would be fine.
As soon as Nanakapolis was ambushed the Phanton Squad would head the second force, they had earned it.
OOC: Sorry for this spam but I'm just doing this so the thread will show up when I search my name: Largent. Also, when will real fighting most likely start.

"Why are the armies in the streets?" asked a top aide to President Williams, who was just returning from vacation.
"The people grow uneasy," explained the president. "While I hate to do this, martial law has been declared. The threat of attack is on all sides. I'm reinstating the draft in the loyal areas, which pretty much consists of Nanakapolis and the surrounding land. Troops have been moved into Nanakan Labs, but the PATRIOT Defenders seem to have started riots in the street that could turn violent.
"We can't keep wasting special forces in the desert, scanning for enemies. Even the elves in Ostotaure are restless. We are on the brink of a civil war and we must be ready. The first battle will start and if it starts in Nanakapolis, we will be ready. I hope that it does not start in Nanakapolis, but if it does, the enemy will have some surprises.
"I have fortified Fort Nanaka, Government Castle and the surrounding areas in the city. We have enough supplies to last a seige in those areas. The bunker system is working. If the worst happens, we will be able to flee the city and rally our supporters elsewhere.
"However, a battle in Nanakapolis will last a long time and probably will be a victory for us. We have a much larger army than all of our opponents combined. If they go for urban warfare, the defenders - us - will have an advantage. We can hide snipers, troops, and tanks. Our soldiers will be ready. All we can do is wait and prepare."
[OOC: Building up toward the first battle. The first battle will be detailed and last a long time. Then the civil war will come.]
Price sat atop a hill watching Nanakapolis. He had ordered his team to march his forces north and to meet him hear. When the general was in position he would make his move.
He knew that this would be vastly different from anyother mission he had ever had. This was fighting in a open battle feild. All he could do was make sure his team got onto the roof tops where they would be most affective. He had enough mortars to take at least ten tanks head on, should it come to that. His snipers were world class and he and his men were invisible, they were the ghosts of day and night. They were the blade of the rebellion. They would move swift and silently, they would be a whisper in the storm.
Price had found his obstacles, his targets, the city's very weak point. He could taste blood, he wanted this victory more than anything he had ever wanted before.
Gage began his march north. He had sufficient numbers and might even be able to get a tank or two to fight with Price and the Phantoms. While Eddie would keep the streets safe with minimal casualties, Gage was leading the though guys that would march right into a cross fire with nothing but a grenade in had, all in the name of the rebeillion.
Gage would take the heaviest casualties, but then agian, he would get the most kills. It was just his style.
Soon Gage could see the city. He radioed back to Port Naka and requested maybe getting a tank or some artillery just to even the odds slightly.

60 Advanced Nanakan Army Helicopter (ANAHs)
50 Nanakan Light Armored Tanks (NLATs)
30 Nanakan Heavy Armored Tanks (NHATs)
25 Nanakan Assault Tanks (NATs)
300 Senitorial Guards
200 Marines
Not that large numbers for the start of the first battle. Use your forces carefully - some regular soldiers will change sides and lots of reinforcements will come. The president's forces will be revealed when the actual fighting starts. It gives a little more of a surprise. Build it up a little. Don't just go in there guns blazing. Reinforcements will arrive and bring the numbers way up.]
OOC: I guess I'll star RPing the very beggining of the battle then, also, I'm trying not to go in with guns blazing but I have very little good material to RP.
The radio crackled and Eddie reached down to get it. His forces had arrived and they were scouting possible insertion points.
ckrrrr...Eddie, you have the go ahead....ckrrrr...All systems go
Roger that. Out.
He placed the radio at his side. He had only 50 men with him, all had selected and verfy capable of keeping up with his team. All he was to do now was get his team onto 5 hand selected roof tops. It was night and they would almost surely make it.
They moved swiftly and silently. They wore all black and were atop a roof on the outskirts of the city withing minutes. They soon set up ropes to move quicker. They were well away from the heart of Nanakapolis and would probably get little trouble out here.
Soon they were all in place, ten to a roof, all lying on their stomachs.
Command I'm in position
Take out any snipers that give you trouble, do your work silently, do not attract attention. I'll be coming for you should anything happen. Try and just hold tight.
Thats what I do best sir
Gage's forces were ready as well. He had 100 men, 2 ANAH helicopters and a 2 NATs. His plan was to begin fighting in the outskirts, opposite Eddie to draw out the special forces. It would be at this point that Eddie made his move and went into the heart of the city crushing the enemy from behind.
It looked good on paper, but could they execute it? They would soon find out. Gage ordered the equipment to be totally concealed and protected by rocks or whatever means necissary. He then ordered that a mortar barrage begin. They had transported enough heavy mortars for each man to have one. It would be a substanial first blow.
Soon the first shots were fired.

Nanakan Labs
"Unite and defend our freedoms!" shouted a speaker at a rally. "The Senate and the president both aren't doing anything. Whether you are a liberal or conservative, centrist or libertarian, we must unite for the defense of our precious freedoms! We will start in the city of Nanakan Labs. Drive them out! We cannot stand around and do nothing anymore. To arms!"
The crowd shouted back, "To arms!"
"We will kick them out of Nanakan Labs and then we will march on to Nanakapolis," continued the speaker. "Freedom is ours and will remain ours. This nation shall -" A bullet zipped by and hit the speaker in the head, dead. It wasn't the Senate, the elves, or the presidential forces. It was the Underground.
"TO ARMS!" the angry crowed screamed. "THEY WILL PAY FOR THIS!"
Soon a fight broke out in Nanakan Labs between the Underground, PATRIOT Defenders, and presidential loyalists.
Port Nanaka
"Rodger that," said an elven operative over a cellphone in the Senate's loyal city. "My strikeforce is ready for the raid on the armory. We'll have weapons for our troops in an instant." With that, a group of at least two dozen elven operatives ripped off their buisiness suits. Underneath, they had uniforms. They pulled out handguns from their pockets and rifles from their suitcases.
The buisinessman disguise had pretty much not been needed for a while. Once they had snuck up on the roof, a disguise was not needed. The strikeforce had limited weapons and ammo because the elves were not planning to fight a modern war, but they had enough to raid the armory to get more supplies. Helicopters would be coming once the elves penetrated the defenses and gave the all-clear.
The elves split up into two groups. One took the stairs leading down from the roof and the other blew a hole in the roof and climbed down. The guards protecting the armory were overcome and the elves signaled the helicopters. However, Nanakan police surrounded the building and prepared to enter.
Outside Nanakapolis, 10 Minutes Later
"They're attacking!" announced a man who walked into President Williams' office.
"I know," replied the president. "I have already recieved news that forces, presumably of the Senate, have approached dangerously close to the city. I have readied my forces on the streets and am preparing to go into the bunker underneath Government Castle to remain safe. Most of our army has been called. We are ready for a seige if necissary."
"Not that," explained the man who had entered. "There is a battle in Nanakan Labs. The PATRIOT Defenders, some terrorist group not yet identified, and our soldiers there are involved."
Another man entered the room, saying excitingly, "They are attacking!"
"We know," said the president and the previous messenger. "Fighting has broken out outside Nanakapolis and there are violent riots and fighting on the streets of Nanakan Labs."
"No," responded the new messenger. "I have recieved news from spies that the elves are attacking the Senate-loyal city of Port Nanaka - small scale for now."
[OOC: This breaking out of combat may last a while, maybe even several IC days, before any resolution is in sight. This first battle is to be very long.]
Gage ordered his men to completley pummel the outskirts and begin an advance. They continued the barrage until they were just outside the city. It was at this point that the ANAHs and NATs were unveiled. They would take no mercy no matter who stood in their way. They were a symbol off terror to possible traitors. All were to kept in line.
The helicopters went over the tallest buildings and began firing hellfire missiles at any advancing enemy troops(assuming they have them). The tanks moved behind Gage's main front taking out anything and anybody they could hit.
"MOVE! MOVE!" Eddie yelled. His force was to begin moving thorugh the outskirts. They ran, never ceasing, several had to sprint and carry bazookas or RPGs on their backs, however not one ceased. This was the adrenaline rush that each one lived for.
They met some small resistence in a courtyard blocking their only logical path into downtown Nanakapolis.
"Supressive fire, leave no survivors!" Price ordered. "Phantoms come with me."
Under tremendous fire the moved swiftly around the courtyard until they disappeared. They troops who had remained fired with assault rifles and even used and RPG round but the enemy had dug in and hidden, a costly advance was the only option.
They ran with everything they had. A total of three got their heads cut clean off in the first few feet. The men still fighting felt nothing though, they were battle-hardened. Soon, however they found themselves on the retreat. Just as all hope was lost and they were ready to turn and run something happened.
A tremendous bang and a cloud of smoke formed in the courtyards center followed by the sounds of an assault rife. As the smoke cleared they saw the Phantoms had sprung their trap.
Several men still lay alive on the ground however. The Phantoms quickly slit their throughts though. Eddie then took the blood of one and marked his helmet. "Men, we are no longer soldiers tied down by rules. We are ruthless warriors that will feel no pitty, show no mercy. The enemy is hardly worth it." This was followed by cheers. "We are close enough. We will hold out here until the chopper shows up to air-lift us onto a sckraper where we will act as snipers and some will act as long range artillery" He motioned to the RPGs. "Lets move."
As Gage's forces were getting slightly tied down the hellfires once again paved the way. He soon however got a message from Eddie updating him. He told the choppers to go make the pickup. He would have to continue without them.
Port Naka
Drake Loiselle was stationed with his fellow officers at the door. "Breach and clear when I give the order. Remember, they're elves. Be ready for everything." The order was given and the door was blown to splinters.
They moved quickly up the stairwell always having their eyes dart around. The power had been cut and things tended to disappear in the dark after a minute.
Soon Drake felt something was wrong. He knew the elves now had better weapons. "Men, hold your position, prepare for a firefight."

The Secret Bunkers Underneath Government Castle
President Williams had fled underneath the Government Castle to the bunker. From there, he gave orders safely via communications as the soldiers on the front lines risked their lives. First, however, he gave a speach. "They're asaulting the city," he said to the commanders on the battlefields.
"Civilians are encouraged to be inside and many have fled. We can't really mobilize our tanks down the streets well. We need to keep them near the Governmental Quarter for defense. Fort Nanaka and Government Castle cannot fall. They are powerful and loyal operating locations and they have an even larger symbolic value. Whoever controls Government Castle has the symbolic power over Nanakaland and Fort Nanaka is the center for the military. Whoever has those will have an edge on this civil war to come.
"Remember, this is the sovereign government of our sovereign nation. The Senate has gone rogue. Other rebelious groups are fighting in other areas. You must do your best to fight. Do not surrender. Do not desert. Fight for the death or you may find your home country will not be sovereign anymore."
President Williams was not a good commander of the army. He didn't pretend to be. The speach was more motivational than anything else. Occasionally after the speach he gave he would give more motivational words and give commands here and there.

Keep in mind that there is a fort in Nanakaland. Not all of these forces will be on the front line. Special forces include snipers.

The elven raiders took the best weapons they could find. One of the two infiltration teams had a member who looked out of a front window. That was a mistake. A sharpshooter shot that elven rebel dead. A sea of bullets hit the room. Two more elves in his group died. The nine survivors in that team ran to the stairs and attempted to access the roof.
The other group of twelve already headed toward the roof with all the weapons they could take. They started loading their helicopters with the looted arms. More helicopters started arriving. Elven raiders planned to take all they could and flee before too many casualties were taken.
However, some of the Senate's military who weren't fighting in Nanakapolis had arrived and several of the helicopters full of the rebel elves were shot down. An elvin colonel was sent to command the operations. This was for PR - to show that not all elves were rebels. That was true - only the elves in the Nanakan Forest (and only part of them) were actually leading the rebellion.
Fighting soon broke out near the raided armory. It couldn't be avoided. If too much weapons were ferried out to the forest where the elves were, then the rebel elves would actually have a chance in the civil war. That could not happen. The Senate-loyal colonel signaled for the police to help the military enter the armory....
Nanakan Labs
Angry mobs were starting to attack the president-loyal soldiers in the city. First, the mob was weak without any effective weapons, but the massive numbers led to something. Equipment, helicopters, weapons, and tanks were looted from dead or captured soldiers and the PATRIOT Defenders soon had a makeshift army. The one advantage the presidential soldiers had there was that they had training and the PATRIOTs did not. Meanwhile, the Underground was also fighting in the streets, making both sides angrier and driving the battle deeper....
Nanakapolis
The Nanakapolis defenders took quite a dent at first. A couple hundred died in the first hour of fighting. The attackers were divided, which divided the defenders. Any time a defender was spoted, he was shot.
The commanders on the front line radioed reinforcements. They also radioed something that the Senate forces weren't suspecting - air support. The navy had been pretty much loyal to the Senate because the Senate had Port Nanaka, but a significant amount of the air force was loyal to the president.
They would call airstrikes. That's all the persident-loyal forces could do - call airstrikes and wait as the enemy got weakened. Most of Nanakapolis could be defended that way. However, the Senate-loyal forces would not give up. The airstrikes could motivate them to move deeper into the city where fighting could be bloodier....
Port Naka
"Shit, their headed for the roof! Move out, kill anything that moves." It was a serious situation and Loiselle knew it. The team began moving up the stairs and fast.
The first group of elves had cleared out but more were coming. The team was only five steps from the main part of the armory. They sat silently until they heared a tiny sound, bearly detectable. Every man knew what he had to do.
Almost totally syncranized each man ran and fired on the entrance to the roof. One elf was shot down and the others quickly darted away from the fire. For now the senate held the armory but the police were greatly outgunned.
Loiselle reached for his radio. Okay, don't know who's out there but get your asses in here 'cause we can't hold our much longer.
Nanakapolis
Gage knew the easy part was over, it was about to get blody. The tank was moving with his forces and they were only a hundred yards from the city limits. The second helicopter was moving ahead scouting for enemy forces.
Minutes later they were in the outskirts where it seemed almost all civilians had fled or barricaded themselves in their houses. They weren't cowards, they were smart, they knew they would die facing Gage. Just as he thought this might not be so bad something happened.
ALERT...RED ALERT...THEY'VE GOT...
There was then a flash of light and the helicopter crashed to the ground in an enormous fireball. Before Gage could give the order the ordinance was away. The bomb hit just behind they tank seriously damaging it. It was operational but would move painfully slow and would run the risk of a total system meltdown. It was a risk Gage had to take.
As they moved further they suffered serious losses from the airstrikes which also devestated buildings all around. They were soon forced to destroy the tank and move on without it. This decreased losses exponentially by allowing them to move through the allyways and not the streets.
Almost an hour later the metropolis was in sight and airstrike attempts would be forced to cease.
On the other side the pick up was successful. They had heard the airstrikes and had to move fast.
"Stay below the roof tops," Eddie ordered the pilot. The pilot looked a little shocked but obeyed. Amazingly enough it worked. Eddies teams were placed on the selected roof tops ready for support once Gage breach the metropolis. Eddie was on a low roof top within the metropolis now with snipers cvering his every side, he was safe...for now.
Gage, were in position.

Nanakan Labs
The Underground was starting to mobilize more forces. From the hidden village in the Nanakan village, reinforcements were on the way. While most groups had been calculating for days or even months, the Underground had just called an emergency planning meeting. They expected a civil war, just not so soon.
While the Underground leaders were planning in safe meeting rooms, Underground sleeper cells were called into action. Three hundred Underground members in total were hidden in the city. Some sniped, some blew things up, and some even fought with guns in open combat. However, the Underground was merely a small menace compared to the rest of the fight going on in the streets.
The PATRIOT Defenders' angry mob grew more like an army and less like an angry mob. They gained some tanks, weapons, and some soldiers whom deserted from the presidential forces. The center of the city was already owned by the PATRIOTs and much of the city's government.
Meanwhile, the actual army was looking less like an army and more like a mob of fleeing people. Tanks and weapons were abandoned. People surrendered, deserted and even sometimes joined the enemy. However, before leaving the city, the soldiers halted in their fleeing. The persuing PATRIOT Defenders charged on the presidential forces.
Many died on both sides. A hole in the presidential forces was made, however, and the PATRIOT Defenders took that chance. They broke through the lines and decided to surround the presidential soldiers. However, the Underground saw this. They wanted the fight to go on as long as possible.
All remaining Underground forces did an all out attack on the PATRIOT Defenders. Chaos erputed. The PATRIOT Defenders were mostly untrained and so they didn't know what to do in the situation. The presidential soldiers were in two groups, but saw their opportunity to attack to break free. The fight continued.
Port Nanaka
"Some helicopters are escaping!" someone shouted. "They could have weapons onboard. Enough weapons to supply a small force. If they escape, then they actually have a chance in this fight."
That observation was enough to scramble some SNAH IIIs and ANAH IIs on the Senate's side. They moved in to intercept. The helicopters shot at the elven helicopters. It had begun.

Nanakapolis
General Gregory Flint was leading the defense of Nanakapolis. He was not safely in the bunker with the president - he was in Fort Nanaka rallying and commanding his troops. This was a smart move. Flint wasn't a good leader and many times did very stupid things. He was a four-star general and the highest ranking, but the president still wanted to get rid of him.
Thousands of soldiers started marching away from Fort Nanaka and toward the action. Several hundred were left behind to defend. Toward the back, General Flint was in a Nanakan Armored Transport Vehicle (NATV) that was specially modified to have even more armor and security (at the expense of speed). He was issuing commands from there. There were dozens of other NATVs and NTVs near the back and elite special forces, the most loyal to the president, were there.
In front of the elite special forces and the transport and support vehicles, there were the special forces. They were loyal to the president (although not as loyal as the elite special forces) and were large in numbers. An occasional transport vehicle or tank was in their ranks.
At the front of the group, there were tanks (NHATs, NLATs, and NATs) and regular soldiers. Above the soldiers on the move were helicopters containing many troops and preparing to strike. On the rooves and top floors of some buildings, there were elite special forces preparing to snipe. The precession split up on the streets of Nanakapolis and fought the Senate forces.
The two sides clashed. Urban warfare was tough. Tanks were smasing through windows and walls of buildings. Troops of both sides shot from buildings as helicopters and tanks bombarded them. In lulls within the combat, soldiers went door-to-door to look for the enemy in hiding. Skyscrapers turned into defendable outposts in which were defendable.
Where is Gage? thought Flint. If I find where he is, I'll make sure he won't live. He said aloud, "Look for their leader. If their leader is taken out while I am still alive, it will be good for our morale."
Meanwhile, airplanes circled around outside of Nanakapolis looking for a few stray units that were outside the city that could be bombarded and turned into ashes. Some Senate-loyal fighter jets scrambled to take out the aircraft and the fight above the skies began...
Eddie watched the enemy begin its march into the streets. A narrow fit, he observed. It would be best to stay quiet now, but when he chose to he would make quite a large noise.
Gage's force was pretty much all in the city. However, ten men were blown to nothing by some aircraft, however that was a passing threat. He saw the massive numbers of his enemy growing by the minute. He had his first strike planned and he knew he couldn't fail or his cause would be lost.
He took his troops around the back of the front line, they had aquired the bulk of the enemy force. Almost every troop found cover as mortars and machine guns were emplaced. Gage gave the order and the sky lit up. Fire rained from the heavens upon the enemy's head.
In almost total syncranization eddie gave the order for two positions to lay down heavy and supressive fire and mortars in to a bottleneck and allow no advancements. Eddie and his men would continue to wait and then begin their sniping. Several men also used their weapons as AA cover.

Nanakapolis
Half of the regulars in the president-loyal army marching through the streets stopped marching. They turned around and started shooting at the president-loyal forces causing much confusion. Some of the helicopters flying over the marching troops shot down the other helicopters. Many tanks were captured.
Confused, the presidential forces started retreating back to Government Castle in massive numbers. Soon, much of General Flint's escorts were no longer with him and he had no choice but to flee with the others. Although they were retreating, the area where Government Castle was very fortified. It would be a fight over Government Castle. Whoever could hold on to the historic landmark would be the symbolic leader of Nanakaland.
Nanakan Labs
The Underground and presidential forces were overrun by the evergrowing crowd of PATRIOT Defenders. The Underground forces retreated to the Nanakan Highlands to hide and the presidential forces went south to see if they could reinforce Nanakapolis, but the angry mob followed. The PATRIOT Defenders gained control of the city and wanted to gain control of all of Nanakaland.
Hidden Village
When the General heard of the retreating, he was outraged. He ordered his forces to go to Nanakapolis to fight there. The Underground gained a small army's worth of troops and secretly moved down to Nanakapolis to fight.

The elven rebels were stopped from stealing some of the weapons, but most of the elves got away. However, the Port Nanakan forces were forced to stay in the city to guard Port Nanaka and thus could not follow. The elves heard of a battle going on in Nanakapolis and decided to send their army there to attack.
Thus, massive ammounts of troops were all heading toward the capital city.
[OOC: Sorry about not posting in this thread. I was distracted by other issues. We are nearing the end of this RP (which means the second thread in the civil war will take place after this battle).]
[Sorry but I wont be able to respond until saturday. I'm going away on a school trip. See ya then.]
Gage nodded. The battle for Nanakapolis was coming to a close and renforcements were coming in from Port Nanaka. The Presidential forces had retreated to the castle. Rather than making the rash decision to stage an assault he decided to lay a seige. The enemy had no power if they were his prisoners. Once allies arrived he would consider a battle.
In the mean time he ordered his men to set up security check points and barrackades all along the city. Few were allowed to walk the streets and security was the only priority. Snipers and machine gunners were kept on the roofs to watch for approaching forces.

Government Castle/Fort Nanaka Area, Nanakapolis
General Flint wasn't ready to surrender just yet. As soon as the retreating troops arrived into the Government Castle area in Nanakapolis, they began to fortify the area. Changes were made to make it more defendable for the coming assault. Flint himself supervised it.
The two checkpoints on either side of the road in the area were taken over by the military. Two soldiers were put in each guardhouse and sandbags were layed so more positions could be set. Hudrends of patrols of a few dozen soldiers each covered certain areas that some people could sneak in. Snipers were placed on the rooves of nearby buildings while helicopters flew through the skies.
The city was already masterfully designed for defense. Deadend roads made it so that only one road actually cut through the Government Castle/Fort Nanaka area. Two checkpoints on either side and patrols would pretty much keep the area safe. One of the ends of the roads led to the Nanakan Highlands within five minutes, making escape easy. A lesser fort, Fort Watson, on the edge of the highlands within driving distance of Fort Nanaka was also linked via the bunkers underneath the area. There were also escape routes via the bunker that were top secrect so the area could be evacuated in an emergency. A key patrol on the road between the northern checkpoint and Fort Watson would make it even more secure.
The presidential forces made barriers on the sides of the road between Fort Nanaka and Fort Watson so that no one could enter the road from the few miles of grassland. Fortifications were made. The army went wherever they could to make sure that the defense was flawless. Anything short of a fullscale assault would not even break through the front lines when combat erupted again. Unfortunately for them, four separate attacking forces would attack, almost all at once.

Nanakan Forest
Former president Michael J. Smith sat peacefully in his log cabin hidden deep into the forest. Most of Nanakaland thought he was dead, but there he was retired. However, as he watched NNNN things seemed to deteriorate in Nanakaland's condition.
"And the civil war in Nanakaland deepens," said a reporter at a newsdesk. "The conflicts seem to have died down in the cities of Port Nanaka and Nanakan Labs. However, a second battle in Nanakapolis is expected. The Senate forces have forced the presidential forces to one half of the city, but they still control Government Castle. Whoever wins is unknown, though Nanakaland will never be the same again and some damage will be done unless -"
"Unless I get involved soon," Smith said to himself as he turned off the television. "It is the only chance to end this without drastic affects. I must appear to the public again. However, the Underground will try to kill me. Before I am to become public I must take them out." He walked over to his bed and lifted up his pillow. Under it was a gun which he took. "I'm going to have to save Nanakaland myself - just like the old days.."
The Hidden Village, Several Hours Later
"With troops moving in on Nanakapolis from all sides, we need new recruits to the Underground to reinforce our efforts," said a recruiter. "You have all proven yourself worthy to be soldiers of the Underground's new effort. Prove yourselves worthy on the battlefield and you shall move up in the rankings. Any questions?"
"Yes," said a mysterious man in the back row of the recruits. "Are we going to see the General?"
"No," replied the recruiter. "He'll be safely in the strategy room planning the -" The mysterious man left the room. The recruiter shouted, "Hey! You can't do that!" It was too late. Michael Smith had left the room and there was a big explosion. A grenade had gone off and Smith was heading toward the strategy room.
Western Nanakan Highway
Massive amounts of elven troops continued to move northward to Nanakan Labs. They had to cut through Nanakan Labs in order to make it to the eastern highway for a clear route to Nanakapolis. This meant that a confrontation with the PATRIOT Defenders would be necissary. The elven generals knew that. However, their army moved slow.
Hours earlier, a mysterious man had driven a car past their army. They were about to stop him when their general realized who he was - Michael Smith. All elves were ordered off before they could shoot at the car. Of course, the lower minions were not told who was in the car, only not to fire at it.
Now, hours later, the elves had advanced closer to Nanakan Labs and prepared to assault the city. However, PATRIOT Defender forces saw this and scrambled to move out to the city to attack the elven army. The problem with the PATRIOTs was that they were poorly trained. In fact, if they had kept all of their forces in the city and simply fortified and defended, it would have probably been easier for them. Instead they charged a large amount of the defending force straight into the elves. The elves lacked the best equipment, but Nanakan Labs had the best of the best technology.

The Hidden Village
The door to the planning room opened. The General was already looking in that direction and said to the man who walked through, "Smith, I've been expecting you."
"Aren't you the least bit surprised that I'm not dead?" asked Michael.
"Not the least bit," the General replied. "I knew that you were not really killed. The only way I'll be sure is if I kill you and watch you die. And now that everyone else thinks that you are dead, I won't have to worry about being found out."
"That's actually quite smart, Agent Skull."
"What?" The General pretended to be surprised.
"Or should I say, Mankana Gan? Yes. I saw straight through you. I know who you are."
"I underestimated you, then."
"While I'd like to have this confrontation going on," Smith stated, "I have a nation to save." He pulled out his gun and shot the General several times in the heart. Then he walked up to him to check to see if he was dead. Just to make sure, he shot the General in the head. Michael then said, "It appears as if I won this time, old rival. An anonymous tip will send Senate troops all over this place within a matter of hours. And I'll vanish into the unknown until the time is right." With that, Smith left the room and stole a helicopter. In a few minutes, he was outside of the village heading south toward the highlands.
After Michael left, the General stood up again, thinking, He thought that he could get rid of me, the great Lord Skull. Though it appears as if I can no longer stay here. The Underground is dead. He proceeded to go to the cargo plane parked in a hanger in the village. He piloted it out of the area. If I can't take over Nanakaland, I'll take over another place first. Now if I keep heading north...

The Cargo Plane, One Hour Later
The General was speeding over The Kingdom of the Midlands region (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/Nanakaland/TKotMMap2.gif). He had to get from Nanakaland to Great Freedom in a relatively short period of time. While this may have seemed easy, the region was actually much larger than it seemed. The General was already out of Nanakan airspace and had just left San Texarian airspace. It was now an easy route until he got to Great Freedom.
There, the remnant of the Underground would most likely be ready to meet him for a complete political takeover of Great Freedom. He would then be able to prepare for the attack on Nanakaland. This would take time, though. He had lost this battle, but the overall mission to take over Nanakaland was not dead.
I'm out of this war, though, thought the General. And so is the Underground. Those high up that could have already started making their way to Great Freedom. The rest are as good as dead.
The "Hidden" Village
The General was right. The underground was as good as dead. A significant amount of Senate forces heading toward Nanakapolis were able to be diverted before those reinforcements entered the city. The Senate forces heading toward the Hidden Village were able to take out the lesser Underground members and those that were not able to leave in time.
The Senate forces were able to break into the command room and find the location of all Underground forces. The Underground was eliminated and many Underground members were captured. One of the five sides was down.
Outside Nanakan Labs
The fight between the elves and the PATRIOT Defenders proved to be a stalemate. Eventually, the PATRIOT Defenders retreated back to the citystate and the elves left the highway at another area. They took more minor roads to cut across from the western highway to the eastern one. They then had about an hour until they would arrive at Nanakapolis in the battle they would have to win.

Outside Nanakapolis
South of the city, the Senatorial forces arrived to reinforce the taking of the city. They marched in to Senate-occupied Nanakapolis and encountered no resistance from the enemy. General Gage's attack was able to continue. Government Castle and Fort Nanaka would be heavilly fortified, but if the first few checkpoints were to be taken down, it would be significantly easier. The presidential forces saw that and hoped that their own reinforcements would arrive so that Government Castle would not fall.
Meanwhile, the presidential forces were arriving from Nanakan Labs. They were able to make it to Fort Watson, which they reinforced. If they would be able to hold that fort just outside of the northern part of Nanakapolis the PATRIOT Defenders would be severly defeated. The road between Fort Nanaka and Fort Watson carried supplies and soldiers between the two. Barricades and defenses on the few miles of plain and highland between the forts allowed it to be easilly defended to prevent interception. Fort Nanaka and the smaller Fort Watson were key if there were to be a presidential victory in Nanakapolis.
Not too far behind the reinforcements, the PATRIOT Defenders from Nanakan Labs arrived. What they lacked in training they made up in technology. The PATRIOTs were able to have SNAH Vs and ANAH IIIs as well as NLAT IIs, NHAT IIs, and NAT IIs - all one version higher than the Nanakan armies, technology whose release was stalled by the civil war. However, the more advanced technology was not enough to stop them from being slaughtered. Twenty thousand PATRIOT Defenders charged at Fort Watson, which had a defending force one tenth the size. However, the presidential forces were able to hold the fort for the first wave. The PATRIOT Defenders were forced to retreat further in the highlands and set up camp as they tried to find a way to defeat the seemingly impenetrable dual forts.
The elven forces were just arriving. They took some lesser roads than the highways and thus were not able to move to Nanakapolis as quickly, but they soon found their way to the Nanakan Higlands. There they set up camp and prepared for an assault on Fort Watson. The PATRIOT Defenders were nearby, so a possible conflict between them would be possible. The elven leaders weren't too upset though because they could gain the equipment they needed if they defeated the PATRIOTs.
The Nanakan Highlands
Michael Smith had observed the conflicts from the side of a mountain deep in the highlands. Obviously I cannot just sneak right in there, he thought. The three armies in the northern area of Nanakapolis might spot me or perhaps Senate scouts. Nevertheless, I must find some way to sneak past all of those defenses. There is only one way. The tunnel I left Government Castle in.
Smith climbed down and walked to a nearby hill as the neighboring armies prepared for yet another fight. He searched for a giant stone rock on the side of the hill. Finding the rock, he pressed a circle in the rock and the rock rolled to the side revealing a metal door. This brings back memories, Smith thought as he slid a keycard through a slit next to the door. The computer then analyzed a hair sample and scanned his fingerprints and retina against the database, just like it did on the other end of the failsafe area when he fled Government Castle. He then said, "Hello" and the voice sample checked out. Thus, the door was unlocked and Smith opened it.
Entering the tunnel, Smith continued walking for a few minutes until he reached a second door. He swiped his keycard through the designated slot and he returned to the failsafe room of the bunker. Smith would rest there for as long as he could to regain strength from his journey before making his appearance public again. Several hours passed until he heard the sound of artillery in the distance. The fight was breaking out again.

Freedom City, Great Freedom
A cargo plane landed on a private hanger just outside of Great Freedom's capital city. The General walked out of the plane and fourteen men were waiting for him there. The General looked at them and asked, "Is this all who are left for our cause?"
"Yes, lord," replied one. "There were more but the Senate intercepted them. Only six Underground members made it here where they recruited others loyal to our cause. The enemy was simply too powerful, maybe even more powerful than you, lord."
"No one is more powerful than me," shouted the enraged leader. "I am the heir to the throne of the Nanakan Empire, I am the rightful president of Nanakaland who was left for dead in the first civil war, I am the one who would have gained control over all of Nanakaland if it wasn't covered in ice, I am the one who became the most powerful member of the Underground and took over as its leader, I am a master of the Dark Arts. I have cheated death more times than you can count and I am still before you. I could kill you with my bare hands."
"Yessir," the nervous person said.
"I do not believe you mean it!" the General screamed. His voice then lowered an octave as he spoke the next words, "Bow to me now!"
"No!"
"Do you dare defy me?" Dark clouds formed over Great Freedom that appeared to come out of nowhere (before this there was not a cloud in the sky) and the ground began to shake, knocking over nearby buildings. "I am Lord Skull!" A bolt of lighting came down and electracuted the defiant one. Then, just as quickly as it had came, the storm vanished and everything calmed down. The General turned to the remaining thirteen and asked them, "Does anyone else challenge my authority? Bow to me and I shall make you the thirteen leaders of the world when it is mine." They bowed.
"We must hurry," the General explained. "One of you is going to have to run for president of Great Freedom. He shall follow me and we will take away their freedoms without them knowing it. Then we shall move on to other nations in this region and eventually Nanakaland. My followers shall have immortality." And the General and the Thirteen vanished. They would eventually take over Great Freedom and prepare to take over Nanakaland, but that would be another story. They no longer had any importance to the civil war in Nanakaland that was going on.

The Failsafe Room
Michael Smith could wait no longer. This civil war must be stopped at all costs, he thought. It has already gone too far. With the Underground gone I can fix the divisions they caused. I just need the opportunity.
Smith thought harder. Obviously I cannot just simply appear in public right now. I need a plan. As for the elves, they have been misled. I need some way to expose the truth to them to get them out of the conflict. If done right I would be able to end all sides except for the president versus the Senate. That's not good enough though. I need to compeltely reunite the country. But how?
Just then an idea hit him. If I were somehow able to find evidence of the Underground attack, then the elves won't blame the others. That might be good enough to get them out of the conflict. I must hurry, though. Michael pulled out a wireless laptop computer he had in the failsafe room. He powered it up and then the computer crashed. Just great. Dead battery. I'll have to access the sattellite imagery from some other computer, possibly in the other bunker areas.
Smith turned to the door in the failsafe room that opened into the bunker. Opening it, he realized that there was a good chance that he might be spotted. However, he also realized that there was nothing he would be able to do about that. I will be making myself public soon enough.
Michael Smith then walked through the door and down the long tunnel. When he came to a metal door, he slid his keycard and opened it (the security was lighter leaving the failsafe room than entering it because to be in the failsafe room one had to have passed the original check). Then he removed the right brick from the wall and entered the main tunnel in the bunker. Smith then went to the first door in his right (after sliding his keycard to the correct slot next to the door) and accessed the computer in the empty room.
Meanwhile, not too far away, John Williams was being led to the failsafe room (which can only be used by presidents - past and present - and their family and friends) by an aide with top level security clearance. The aide explained, "Mr. President, the area is effectively under a seige and the Senate forces shall be striking any moment now. I would have told you about this earlier, but I was not given the opportunity. At the end of this hall is the failsafe room which you can access by removing the brick that is slightly off color." After walking a little further, the aide continued, "I cannot go any further. You must hide in this failsafe room and possibly flee if Government Castle and Fort Nanaka fall. You know what to do."
President John Williams rounded a corner (and just missed seeing Michael Smith) in the hall of the bunker and kept walking until he found the brick wall. He removed the discolored brick and revealed a control panel. He entered the emergency presidential code into the panel and replaced the brick. Astonished, he noticed the brick wall lower into the floor. When he walked past where the wall was, the sensors detected him and moved the wall back up. He now had two feet of space behind him and ten in front of him. Not the tightest space he was ever in, but close to it.
Williams slid a keycard in the slot next to the door and then gave the computer the samples neccissary to confirm his identity. He then entered in the failsafe room and was startled. It appeared as if someone was in there recently. Perhaps Smith lived that accident, Willaims thought. This is the place where Nanakaland presidents go in the time of need. There must have been something else behind the story of Smith and the fire in the bunkers. However, that does not concern me. For now, I must wait here until the battle for Nanakapolis is over and flee if the presidential forces leave.
As this was happening, Smith typed busilly away at the computer. He entered in the access codes and was linked into the network of the Nanakaland Security Bureau (NSB). From there, he accessed the sattellite imagery records. He found the images of the Underground helicopters leaving Dnuorgrednu Corp. and torching Ostotaure. That was the evidence that the Underground actually massicred the elves and that the elven forces were misleaded.
He then went on an email provider and created a new account (and used false personal information so he could not be identified as the former president). Michael then sent the information to NNNN headquarters and the headquarters of the local NBC affiliate in Nanakaland. This information would be able to discredit the elven claims. Even if the leaders wanted to fight on, the elves would simply refuse to fight. Smith would be sure that the elves would be out of the civil war within a few days.
[ooc: sorry about the late response]
Gage was worried. His attack had pretty much gone off without a hitch but the gathering enemy. He decided it would be best if he had the bulk of his forces constructing defenses and fixing machine guns.
Every major road was covered by a tank or was watched by a helicopter. Gage would be ready for another attack when it came and so would his battle-hardened soldiers.
He also was concerned with Fort Watson. Once the threat of an ambush on the march faded he would plan an assault. However, Nanakapolis was becoming the focal point of the civil war and what may possibly be the Gettysburg of Nanakaland was about to occur.

Fort Nanaka
"Sir," said an officer reporting to General Flint. "The elven forces and PATRIOT Defender forces are north in the Nanakan Highlands, possibly ready to strike Fort Watson. The Senate forces are in the city to the south and on the grasslands to the east. The grassland forces could attempt to intercept the road between the two forts or even an assault on Fort Watson. The Government Castle Fort Nanaka area will most likely not fall because it is so heavilly fortified, but our weakness shows.
"We have massive amounts of forces and thus an all out assault they could preform on our main area we hold would be suicidal to them. The area has enough supplies to withstand this seige for a week and maybe more if we make a breakthrough in their lines or gain more territory. When the Senate strikes from the south, we should be able to hold the actual fort and castle for several days in which they will either give up or loyal reinforcements will arrive.
"As for the north, Fort Watson has enough troops, but we would be overrun between Senate, elves, and PATRIOTs. Reinforcing might be able to be done through the bunkers but that would not be enough and the road could be intercepted by the Senate if we are not careful. The best we can do is hold what we can for as long as we can until the enemy breaks before we can go on the offensive.
"The Senate forces are busy being reinforced and planning. I don't see them attacking right away. Intelligence shows that they are divided into two separate teams. One of them is to the south in the actual city. If we move out and attack them right away, they have the advantage so all we can do is wait. As for the Senate to the east they could either strike the road or Fort Watson. The road needs to be reinforced so troops and supplies can be transported. However, the Senate could also attack Fort Watson which will probably be striked several times. That could lead to the changing of hands.
"The elves and the PATRIOT Defenders are camped close to each other in the Nanakan Highlands and might fight each other. Their camps could be easy targets, but we will probably let them have the first strike. They will also most likely fight each other. We should not be proud, though. Fort Watson needs to be defended. So does the bunkers underneath. If Fort Watson falls then the bunkers need to be a place of combat that we can win. Barricades could be set up if possible. Combat in the bunkers would most likely be won by the defenders, us.
"We should not stay on the defense, though. Between strikes on Fort Watson, we could send out raids and see if we can get rid of one of the enemies. This battle will be massive and deadly, but this will also be the turning tide of the war. We must win this if we want to win this civil war."
"Thank you for your battle reports and suggestions," General Flint replied. "They will be noted in the battle plans."

Fort Watson, That Night
Lieutenant Peter Ericson was responsible for the night watch. He sat in his post in a tower, attached to the fort's wall, overlooking the Nanakan Highlands. Peter leaned back and yawned. It was going to be a long night and so far nothing happened. He scanned the area again. Nothing.
He was tired - very tired. And now he was drifting into a deep sleep. Nothing would happen tonight, he thought. It wouldn't matter if I just got some rest.... Just a half hour at most.... Nothing will happen...
Ericson woke up several hours later to the sound of gunfire. Quickly, he sounded the alarm of the fort. Peter picked up his binoculars and looked through them. In the distance, there was the PATRIOT Defender camp and it was being attacked by the elves. A force of several hundred presidential forces left Fort Watson to take advantage of that situation and attack the two sides.
However, just then a second PATRIOT Defender force went around the battle and assaulted Fort Watson. It was a diversion. The elven camp, seeing this, also sent an attacking force at Fort Watson. One side of the walls of the fort was penetrated and Lieutenant Ericson sounded the alarms again, readying the whole fort. ANAH IIIs of the PATRIOT Defenders flew over the wall and dropped forces in the fort as AA guns shot at them.
Presidential forces moved to block off the area of the wall that was destroyed as the fort appeared to be overrun by thousands of soldiers. Several thousand troops moved along the road from Fort Nanaka to back up the fort under attack. After about fifteen minutes, the presidential forces successfully beat most of the enemy forces out of the fort. However, some PATRIOT Defenders managed to find the entrance to the bunker.
A team of several dozen people moved down the bunker until they reached a barrier. Presidential forces opened fire at the infiltrators, but the team managed to clear a path to the bunker. Several thousand PATRIOT Defenders charged into Fort Watson and moved to the bunker. Many died, but at least a thousand overran the fort and headed toward the bunker. Presidential reinforcements were on the way, but the forces in Fort Watson were struggling to last until then....

The Bunker
Michael Smith heard in the distance as presidential barriers were overrun. He needed to do something. He got off of the computer he was using and closed and locked the door to the room he was in. He turned over desks and barricaded himself in the room he was in. However, that would not be enough. All over the place PATRIOT Defenders, elves, and presidential forces were fighting and the Senate forces would probably get involved shortly enough.
Michael Smith went on a computer and looked at security camera footage. Presidential reinforcements had arrived via the backdoor to Fort Watson and were fighting for the fort. Smith changed cameras to get a more accurate view on the situation. Some PATRIOT Defenders and elves had entered the bunker via various entrances and were swiping the halls as presidential forces barricaded some areas. The main hall that lead to Fort Nanaka and Government Castle was heavilly defended and reinforcements were arriving there, but a lot of other halls were being overrun.
The presidential forces defending hall Smith were in was overrun by PATRIOT Defenders. Soon they stumbled upon the brick wall. However, they did not know that it was the path to the failsafe room so they moved on and started breaking down doors in the hall. Smith had to think fast. Looking around the room, he found a ventalation shaft. He climbed into the vents and sealed it behind him. Then he crawled through the bunker's vents as he heard the door to the room he had been in bust down.
Michael Smith continued down the ventilation shaft, looking down in the rooms he was over. He then moved into the shaft above the hall and through an opening noticed many troops moving through the hall, shooting at their enemies. Smith used the safe vents to crawl down the main hall and over the barricade that the presidential forces had set up.
Meanwhile, President Williams watched security camera footage via the television in the failsafe room. He breathed a sigh of relief as the soldiers did not notice the brick wall was the entrance to the failsafe room. He was safe for as long as he stayed in there. However, if Government Castle was overrun he would have no choice but to flee.
Williams layed back down in one of the beds in the failsafe room. He needed his strength the next day. The president drifted off to sleep...

Fort Watson
The Senate forces had arrived. Previously the presidential forces had been able to fight off much of the attackers and several hundred went into the bunkers from Fort Watson to finish them off. However, the Senate forces arrived with great numbers and strength - about two-thirds of their attacking army. This forced the rest of the presidential forces to defend Fort Watson - a fight they were not prepared for.
The Senate forces overran Fort Watson and captured it. However, many presidential forces managed to flee to the bunker and close the doors. Only several hundred Senate forces managed to enter the bunker and only one entrance managed to be captured, thus making it hard to fight in the bunker.
When General Flint heard of the fall of Fort Watson, he sent out several thousand reinforcements to retake the fort. However, that was exactly what General Gage wanted. The Senate forces that did not attack in the Fort Watson strike did an all out strike on the Fort Nanaka area. It was heavilly defended, but many of the presidential troops were unprepared.

[OOC: Sorry for the late post but the forums were down yesterday and I was busy over the past week. I actually had this post prewritten for several days.]
The Bunker
Michael Smith watched from the vents as the main barricade was overrun by PATRIOT Defenders who were slaughtered from behind by elves who were shot by presidential forces' reinforcements. The presidential forces reinforced the barricade and went in a nearby room. They used overturned desks and chairs to block off the path as Senate forces pushed through the halls.
The Senate forces had eventually taken all of Fort Watson and all of the bunkers on the Fort Watson side of the barricade except the hidden failsafe room. Thus, the Senate forces had nowhere else to go but through the barricade. The Senate forces littered the area with bullets, taking down some presidential forces. Then they broke down the barricade. However, the barricade was just something to slow the enemy down. When the barricade was down, the presidential forces retreated back further down the hall.
An alarm was sounded and the Senate forces raced to overtake their enemy. However, the presidential forces managed to make it to a certain place in the bunker and then pressed a button closing a three foot thick metalic door behind them that could only be opened again with the proper access codes. Immediately computer experts went to work to hack the system, but the presidential forces had succeeded in slowing the Senate forces down. Hours past and reinforcements arrived on the presidential side and they started fortifying and placing barriers for when the door did open.
Michael Smith crawled on through the vents and he soon passed the area where the sealed door blocking off the hall was. He simply went over the security procautions that the presidential forces had put in place. It was a good thing that the Senate did not realize about the vents or Smith might have been discovered.
I have to remember to make sure that the vents seal off when that emergency door seals off, Smith thought. I'll probably fix that security problem when I'm known to the public again. Michael continued down the vents and eventually got to an empty room where he climbed down into. He held his handgun in one hand just to be safe and opened the door a crack. Noticing a patrol of soldiers, he quickly hid in the room and left the door open because a movement would have made them suspicious.

Fort Nanaka Area
On the surface, the presidential barriers were overrun by the remaining Senate forces. The road was captured and the forces assaulted Fort Nanaka. Realizing that the fort was too heavilly defended, they instead decided to infiltrate Government Castle. However, the challenge was to keep it intact.
A special taskforce broke into Government Castle and opened the front door. However, by this point the presidential forces had fled Government Castle and sealed off its bunker access points. It was not trapped because no one on either side would ever even consider destroying such a great national landmark. Government Castle was captured by the Senate but Fort Nanaka remained under presidential control. As long as Fort Nanaka was under the control of the president's loyalists the battle for Nanakapolis would rage on.
Several hundred men guarded the sealed door that was the access point between Government Castle and Fort Nanaka. The bunker had to be kept safe. However, General Gage was smart. He knew that somewhere in the hastilly abandoned presidential quarters area was a secret access point to the bunker because he knew that the president of Nanakaland fled to the bunkers in the time of need. If he could find the access point from Government Castle he could access the bunkers and defeat the presidential forces from where they were not expecting and then possibly track down the hidden point in the bunker President Williams fled to.
After several hours of tearing apart the upstairs rooms, the hidden entrance to the bunker from Government Castle was discovered. A security measure put in place just in case the president was trapped was used to jeopardize his own safety. A select team of three dozen soldiers took that passage and infiltrated the bunker system. They surprised the men who were guarding the main bunker access door from Government Castle by attacking from behind - the direction not expected. Before an alarm could be sounded, the guards in the area were all killed or captured and the door was opened, leading to a flood of Senate forces into the bunkers.
They managed to find the blocked off door and opened the door for the rest of the Senate forces. Soon, the entire bunker system except for the hidden failsafe room was overrun. All of the remaining presidential forces were left in Fort Nanaka or on the road to Fort Watson. When news of the attack on Fort Nanaka came, those that were on the road to Fort Watson went back to Fort Nanaka to help defend it. A long and bloody battle without an end anytime soon was expected. It could tear apart Nanakaland in a way unfixable if not stopped, but there was only one man who could stop this battle...
Nanakaland

Michael Smith climbed out of the bunker. One of the Senate soldiers asked who he was because he had a jacket on with a hood covering his face. He turned and the soldier reckognized him immediately. He stood there in shock as Smith, thought dead by almost everyone in Nanakaland, walked on by.
The battle continued in the middle of Fort Nanaka as soldiers shot at each other for control of the fort - the two sides had started a bloody battle. Michael Smith made his way to the platform in the center of the fort's central courtyard by which in times of peace presidents, generals, and guest speakers spoke to crowds of thousands of Nanakan soldiers on folding chairs. Now, Michael moved forward to the stage which was surrounded by a layer of sandbags and used by presidential forces.
"Who goes here alone and unarmed?" asked one of the president-loyal soldiers guarding the platform, raising his gun. "Are you a friend or foe?"
"A friend of Nanakaland and a foe of its enemies," Smith replied. The soldier could still not identify the former president.
"Have you been living under a rock for years!? The country is divided in a great civil war between those loyal to the president, those loyal to the senate, and many opportunists. To which side do you hold your loyalties, stranger."
"All and none. My loyalties are to Nanakaland, not a faction."
"Then you cannot be on presidential territory," explained the soldier. "There is a battle going on. You're going to get yourself killed!"
"No. I am here to prevent other innocent Nanakans from being killed from a civil war that has divided the others."
"Then you are a pacifist?"
"Hardly. Though I was born in a time before Nanakaland and helped it grow. I led it through two world wars and through two ages of Nanakaland. I am the most popular leader ever."
"Who are you?"
"Michael Smith."
"Smith is dead!"
"Did you see his body with your own eyes?"
"He was burned in a fire. There is no evidence. He is dead, though."
"That's what he would want you to think," explained Smith. "He was hiding from those who tried to kill him and almost succeeded. Now they are gone and he must reunite the country he helped create."
"And what proof do you have?"
"I have my proof."
"Smith is dead. Face the facts."
"He is?" asked Michael as he took off his jacket. The soldier then noticed, but Smith still said, "I am Michael Smith, alive and well, and I shall reunite Nanakaland!"
The soldier just stood there in awe. Words can barely describe the meeting of Michael Smith. It was like all of the good presidents of the United States as one person, standing right there in front of you, but it was even more shocking because an overwhelming majority actually believed that Michael Smith had died.
Michael Smith had managed to wire every intercom system in the fort to a microphone. While down in the bunker with the computers, he also managed to tap into every television and radio network in Nanakaland and its commonwealth. Almost everyone in Nanakaland would hear the message he was about to say and he was sure of it.
"Fellow Nanakans, I, Michael J. Smith, am addressing you not as a president, a former president, a great leader, or any other position of importance," he said into the microphone, "I am addressing you today as a humble man of our great country. Despite popular belief, I am not dead - I was hiding from a group of people who wanted me dead and are now gone. However, since I stepped down from power it appears as if a civil war has started.
"You were quick to fight and apparantly did not try diplomacy first. I do not blame you as it was probably the Underground's fault more than anything. They manipulated the nation. However, you bought into the lies. You must now stop this civil war before it tears apart this great nation we have spent so long trying to build up!
"It will be hard to stop so soon, but it is the only remedy. You must listen to my humble request. If you do not like the way the last elections turned out, you can always hold a recount or a revote or just wait until the next elections. To start a war is not the right thing to do.
"So please listen to me when I say that this war is not the right thing to do. We must end it now or Nanakaland shall never be a superpower again. Please. That is all I can ask of you."

And so it ended. The senatorial and presidential forces layed down their arms, the elves realized the errors in their ways and stopped fighting the others - although some Ostotaurian elves remained hostile to humans for some time to come - and the PATRIOT Defenders simply dissolved for they were not being very patriotic. The Underground remnants stirred up some riots, but for the most part the civil war was over. However, Lord Skull and the Thirteen took over much of Great Freedom secretly and their presidential candidate won, setting the stage for future hostilities.
Everything seemed wrapped up, but the divisions were not resolved. President John Williams fled Nanakaland to one of its allies, Falastur, who granted asylum. This left Nanakaland leaderless until the next elections for no man stepped up to take over and Williams never officially resigned. The people looked to the ex-president, Michael Smith, for leadership, but Smith did not want to run for president and the other leader the people wanted, Senator Thomas Smith (his son), didn't express intentions to take power in Nanakaland.
Damage had been done and Nanakaland remained divided. It would take a long time and hard work to reunite it and reverse the work done by the Underground but the Nanakan people were determined. Both Michael and Thomas Smith pushed for special elections to determine a president to replace Williams until his term officially ended while the reunited army spread throughout Nanakaland to wipe out elements of resistance. One of the first things to be rebuilt was the army, which was needed for reunion of the nation.
However, it was later found out that this was only the first part of the civil war, a simple path to division. The actual civil war would heat up after a period of some peace. The seeds of division were sown and all it would take is one more incident to heat up the civil war again. This was the way in Nanakaland's Third Age - the road to division.
