Sliponia's Ready For Some Football
Schedule Released.

OLIVERRY--Sliponia's national football team is ready for some competition against newly found rival Adam Island and World Cup of Basketball champs Harlesburg.

"We feel that we stand a good chance," said Coach Dick Vermeil. "No one has any reason to think they'll do better than other teams really, but we think that our playing will be great. You are looking at Sliponia's All-Star team."

Turori defeats Sarzonia in gridball opener, 12-10

Sarzonia gridball team Coach Bobby Sanders paced the sidelines, worried. His team had a 10-9 lead with six seconds remaining in the World Cup opener between Sarzonia and regional rivals Turori and their field goal kicker lined up for a 36 yard attempt. He made three of four field goals earlier in the game, including a 47 yard effort as the first half [OOC: The first 15 minutes] expired.

He had every reason to worry. The kicker blasted the kick right between the uprights and Turori defeated Sarzonia 12-10 in the NS Bowl I opener for both teams.

"We just didn't make the plays on offense when we had to," Sanders said. "When you get killed in time of possession, you're not giving your defense a chance to succeed."

Quarterback George Pendry completed only 13 of 29 passes for 148 yards and the team's touchdown, a 17 yard strike to tight end Joe Cooley that gave Sarzonia a 7-3 lead with 8:21 to go in the first half. Kicker Adam Novak's 32 yard field goal with 5:46 remaining in the half gave Sarzonia a 10-3 lead that seemed to be insurmountable with the way Sarzonia was shutting down Turori's offense.

"Defense wasn't the problem out there," Sanders said. "We lost the time of possession battle 18:31 to 11:29. When that happens, no defense is going to be able to hold up that long."

Sarzonia went into the game looking to emphasize a strong running game and its powerful offensive line, but Pendry threw the ball 29 times, a figure that Sanders said was "way too much."

"We don't want him throwing more than 15 passes a game. When they were stacking eight and nine men on the line, we had no choice if we wanted to move the football."

Sarzonia's next game is against Hisam and the team is going to go back to the drawing board to try to devise their game plan.

"We're going to have to play clock control football and create turnovers on defense," Sanders said. "As for special teams, we can't keep giving teams a short field and expect to win ballgames."

Legalese opens up Gridiron Football championships tomorrow
The Red Xens, Lethislavania await in first round

Legalese will commence play in the first round of the Gridiron Football Championships in Oliverry, leading to NS Bowl I. The results appear to be wildly unpredictable, as games will only be 30 minutes long, rather than the conventional 60, and that most of Legalese’s opponents appear to be somewhat new at the game as well.

“This is definitely a whole new ballgame for us” said Sagdineo High School coach Frank Baum, who will also coach the Legalese National Team in the championships. “I was able to convince some of my top kids to make the trip, and have tabbed other high school players to make out my lineup. We’ll see how it goes.”

Baum’s largest concern, however, is with the roster limits. The 25-man roster could hamper squads, especially since it will cut depth charts down dramatically.

“It’s the main reason I chose the high schoolers, to be honest” said Baum. “With the only organized league, and the likelihood that most already play on both sides of the ball, I think they can adjust.”

Legalese has unveiled their uniform styles, which are available here (http://jdfrew.people.wm.edu/Legalese.htm).

Adam Island Beats Sliponia

OLIVERRY- Sliponia may have knocked AI out of the Baptism of Fire, but they gave the island republic an early win in the NS Bowl I qualifiers, 21-8.

Quarterback and Adam Island Football League MVP Jim Ciancutti threw three touchdown passes in the 30 minutes of play, two of them to WR Bill Watters in the first half.

After the first 15 minutes, with Adam Island up 14-0, coach David Aughenbaugh sent second-stringer Reid Campbell in to replace Ciancutti. Campbell gave AI a long drive, but threw an interception, which was run into the endzone by Sliponia. They went with the two-point conversion and were successful, cutting the lead down to 6.

With the jeers of the Sliponian fans following him, Campbell headed to the bench and Ciancutti came back in. With 5 minutes remaining, Cinancutti led the drive down the field, assisted by a 35-yard rush from fullback Richie Krumrie.

Ciancutti tossed the ball to Woody Harley who snatched it out of the air and scored a touchdown. Kicker Max Bryant got his third PAT, and Sliponia was unable to put the remaining 30 seconds to use.

If Adam Island wins their other game, or if Sliponia loses theirs against AI's Basketball WC rival Harlesburgh, Adam Island will be guaranteed a spot in the NS Bowl tournament.

NS Bowl Officials are watching some teams

Marshalliston, Oliverry-Oliverrian team is in the gang. The coach of the team: Marvin Lamperona doesn't know why. He stated:

"What the fuck? What did my team to be watched by the NS Bowl?"

The other teams are Turori and Adam Island.

The NS Bowl officials didn't want to comment this but Oliverrian coach thinks he has an idea why.

"Oliverry is the hosting team, so it can be a reason. The other ones seems so correct, that it can be suspect. It can be the reason but me, I don't know."

The headquarters of NSBowl federation are in Marshalliston(the capital of Oliverry for those who didn't know).

We will continue to see what will happen in this affair.

Harlesburg ready to play against Adam Island
After news of Harlesburg's loss to Adam Island in the Basketball World Cup
The Harlesburg Titan's are looking to seek revenge for their country men.

"This isnt just about sport it's about community." said Garry Germaine Harlesburg's star Quarterback

"When Harlesburg won the first game against these guys we were happy after a loss to Kaze Progressa but with the heartbreak of last night things need to be sorted."said Tightend Hubert Hoberstaft

Harlesburg have been working hard on the technical things all week long and as one fan reported they are not a bunch of po-pos they are athletic strong and fast but they are smaller than their opposition in the blocking department but they have strong secondrys to cover for this.

(OOC2)I used to watch it a bit um havent seen Gridiron in a while though like last Superbowl did get a bit disgruntled with the "double pump" 2 years before though :D

Sarzonia wins gridball battle, 14-10

After being forced to throw the ball 29 times in the NS Bowl opening loss to Turori, the Sarzonian national gridball team kept the ball on the ground, rushing for 79 yards on 23 carries and stomping past Hisam 14-10 to send the team to the quarterfinals of the NS Bowl.

"We were able to establish our running game and pound the ball and play our style of football," Coach Bobby Sanders said. "When you do that, you have a chance to win gridball games."

Running back Shaquice Allen led the way for the Rockets with 21 rushing attempts and 82 yards and a 16 yard score. Quarterback Joe Pendry had the other two rushing attempts on kneeldowns at the end of the game. After completing 12 of 29 throws in the 12-10 loss to Turori, Pendry only went to the air nine times, completing six for 93 yards and a touchdown to wide receiver Ronnie Coles.

The Rockets (1-1) won the time of possession battle, keeping the ball for 21:17 and keeping their defense off the field for most of the game. When it was on the field, the defense forced four turnovers, including three interceptions.

"When we're able to force turnovers, we have a chance to put our team into position to win," linebacker Antonio Marshall said. "We've still got another game ahead of us."

AI Defeats Harlesburg, Qualifies

OLIVERRY- The Adam Island Four-Down Football Team has defeated Harlesburg, in a low-scoring game that propelled AI to the quarterfinals for NS Bowl I.

The entire first half was scoreless, with QB Jim Ciancutti throwing two interceptions, one of them in the end zone. He was sacked twice, and was eventually substituted for second-stringer Reid Campbell.

AI's defense made up for the poor OL. Linebacker Marc White got a sweet interception and they sacked Harlesburg's QB four times in the first half.

At halftime, the score was tied 0-0. A tie would still qualify AI for the quarterfinals, but who wants to tie?

Campbell got AI to the end zone on the first drive of the half, ending with a 9-yard TD run by halfback Rickey Roberts. The PAT was good, and AI went up 7-0.

Harlesburg made it down the field the next posession, and put the score at 7-6. Since a tie would still eliminate Harlesburg from the Bowl, they needed the win, and so they went for the two-point conversion, which they completed.

The ball changed hands a few more times, until AI finally got it with only 40 seconds left on the clock. They brought it up to the 29-yard line, and asked Max Bryant to knock in the game-winning field goal with time running out. It was nearly blocked, but the ball sailed over the Harlesburgians' heads and just over the post. Adam Island had won!

The next game is against 2-0 Turori, who finished at the top of Group B. Adam Island filed an official inquiry into why they had to play another first-place team instead of being rewarded for winning their group by playing a weaker team, like maybe Vilitia. Nevertheless, AI is confident they will destroy the Turori offense and run their defense into the ground.

Gridballers try to slip into next round

After two low-scoring gridball games, Coach Bobby Sanders and the Sarzonian gridball team say they're ready to face Sliponia in their first playoff game of the gridball World Cup.

"We've worked hard to establish our ground game all week long," Sanders said. "We want to make sure we eat up a lot of clock on offense and shut down their running game on defense. We want Sliponia to be as one-dimensional as possible."

Sarzonia's defense has averaged 11 points allowed per game so far, including a 12-10 loss to Turori and a 14-10 win over Hisam. The only touchdown the team gave up was on a 54 yard scoring strike late in the second half of the game against Hisam.

"We've been able to put the clamps on some good teams," Sanders said. "We've got to keep doing that if we want to win the Cup."

The team will look to running back Shaquice Allen to lead the way and have set 75 yards rushing as their benchmark. The team said if they can run for 75 yards in the 30 minute game, they'll be able to win most of the time.

"This isn't like the gridball games back home, everything's more intense here," Allen said. "When you're playing 60 minute games, a power running game will wear you out. Here, it's a little harder to do that." Allen rushed for only 17 yards in the loss to Turori, but ran for 82 yards and a touchdown against Hisam. Quarterback Joe Pendry will also be expected to make more plays; he has tossed two touchdowns, but threw three interceptions in the Turori game and lost a fumble in the first half of the Hisam game.

"We've got to take care of the football," Pendry said. "That starts right here," he added, tapping his chest with his right index finger. "I've got to do a better job of managing the ballgame for us to go on."

Sliponia's Field Goal Secures Win
As time expires.

OLIVERRY--Sliponia's national football team will be competing against Adam Island again after defeating Sarzonia by a field goal as time expired in the fourth quarter. The Slips lost 21-8 in the last game against AI (Margaret (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Margaret) strikes American Football too! [OOC: Still think it's crap that I Rp'ed and lost the first game where there aren't any advantages other than rp]) but look to take a win away from them.

"We feel that we stand a good chance," said Coach Dick Vermeil. "No one has any reason to think they'll do better than other teams really, but we think that our playing will be great. You are looking at Sliponia's All-Star team."

Sarzonia loses playoff opener 20-17

After dominating time of possession and outgaining Sliponia 91-23 on the ground, most casual fans would have said the Sarzonian gridball team should have won their quarterfinal game easily, but thanks in part to five turnovers, Sarzonia lost 20-17 to send the team into the consolation rounds.

"You can't win games when you lose the turnover battle the way we did," said quarterback George Pendry. Pendry threw four interceptions and lost a key fumble that gave Sliponia the ball on Sarzonia's 23 yard line with 29 seconds remaining. "I made some terrible decisions out there."

Sarzonia started out like they were going to blow Sliponia out of the water. Running back Shaquice Allen led an 8 play, 65 yard drive that took nearly six minutes off the clock by running six times for 58 yards. He scored from the four after catching a shovel pass from Pendry to give Sarzonia a 7-0 lead.

Pendry then completed a 43 yard strike to tight end Joe Cooley to give Sarzonia a first and goal at the eight yard line, but Sliponia stiffened, forcing an Adam Novak field goal from 29 yards out. Even though Sarzonia took a 10-0 lead, the team walked off the field in frustration after not scoring a touchdown. Sliponia soon made them pay for the missed opportunity.

After Novak kicked the ball out of bounds, Sliponia only needed three plays to cut the lead to 10-7. A long bomb on a third and 18 play demoralized the Sarzonian defense after the offense's failure on the previous series, and Coach Bobby Sanders was pleading with his team to keep their heads in the game. They didn't. Receiver Ronnie Coles fumbled the next kickoff at his own nine yard line and Sliponia forced a three and out after a sack. Punter Mark Gardocki's punt only sailed 35 yards, giving Sliponia the ball inside Sarzonia territory. Two plays later, Sliponia made it 14-10.

Sanders returned to the ground game, calling Allen's number nine times out of the next 10 plays, culminating in a 12 yard touchdown run that put Sarzonia on top 17-14. Unfortunately, that lead was short lived, as Sliponia drove from their own three to the Sarzonia one, but couldn't cash in. A field goal from 19 yards out tied the game at 17 and set the stage for the last second drama.

"We've got to pick ourselves back up and play gridball," Sanders said. "We're playing like a bunch of kids."

[OOC: We've been playing two 15 minute halves in this World Cup, so it would be as time expired in the second half.]
