The Elderly woman took her place at the head of the table. She had short, white hair that was whisked back perfectly. She called or order in the courtroom and the twelve men in suits sat at the table as well.
The woman turned to each of the men and told them the story of BTA-74 Yankee. “BTA-74 Yankee is the train that was to take care of the prisoner transfer of Jack Williams who is charged with the mutilation of a small colony on Mars. He was being held at Shining Ridge. The train arrived at the arranged station on autopilot. It was boarded by security agents and originally thought to be a ghost train with no survivors but one was soon found. She had several wounds and tested positive to a drug test.”
The woman turned to a guard and told him to bring her in. “Gentlemen I would like you to mean Lieutenant Hendridge.” As the door slid open a tall, beautiful, blond haired woman walked into the room. “Please take a seat Lieutanant.”
The Hendridge looked at the woman and sarcastically replied, “won’t I need a lawyer first?”
“Lieutenant this is an evidentiary hearing a lawyer will not be necessary. Now sit.” Hendridge did as she was told. “What happened on that train Lieutenant?”
Hendridge seemed reluctant, but answered, “We were sent for the prisoner exchange as you already know. It was just me, the commander, and three rookies. On the train ride there the men were playing cards and I popped a few pills.
“Once we arrived at Shining Ridge we geared up and were ready to go. We left the train to find that no one was in the streets. This was very odd for a Friday night. With our suspicions aroused we decided to split up and conduct a search of the buildings. What we found was horrifying. There were bodies in the Recreational Center. They were hanging upside down from the ceiling and were decapitated. It was pretty hard to look at. We found signs of violence in other places too.
“We searched outside some more later. It was at this point the The Commander the commander went missing. We later found her body in the sand dunes. She too was decapitated.
“We knew at this point that we had to secure the prison even though we knew Williams wouldn’t be there, and he wasn’t. We tried to follow his trail and soon found that his footprints were soon accompanied by many more. He was traveling with no less than one hundred men. We soon lost his trail however. We returned to the train and followed headed east, the same way he went. A few miles down the road our train slowed down. One of the rookies was driving it. His name was Yohan Ballard. He stopped the train and leveled his gun with me. The other two followed suit. It turns out they were working for Williams all along.” Hendridge paused and shed a tear. Something she didn’t normally do.
“Please Lieutenant, go on. I’m sure this is difficult.”
Hendridge nodded as the lone tear dripped off her nose. “Once I got my bearings on the situation I pretended to lower my rifle. I shot Yohan in the balls. After that I swung my leg and the others fell. Unfortunately tripping a man doesn’t kill him. The ganged up on my and knocked me out. I guess the chained me up, gave me some more drugs cause I sure didn’t take arsenic, and they left me for dead.”
The older woman gazed into Hendridge’s eyes with her own. Hendridge could feel those all black eyes seeing right through her. She had to divert her gaze for she felt that the woman would learn her most intitmit secrets. “Your excused Lieutenant,” the old woman said with a hint of satisfaction. We will be contacting you soon about the situation.
