OOC Interest Thread for RP Idea

Texan Hotrodders
30-11-2004, 22:40
I will be going on Winter Break in a couple of weeks, and would like to have something to do besides work and read. So I have an idea for a Western RP that would center around a historical saloon in Texan Hotrodders called "The Cylinder". This saloon is located in a town called "Chassis". This would be a Semi-Open RP that would have no set plot, and creativity (within reason) is encouraged.

I'm thinking that if there is enough interest in this for me to start it the rules will be:

$ Each nation can only have two characters, maximum.
$ Characters can only have tech that would have been available in and during the time of the western expansion of the RL United States of America.
$ No magic, unless it's of the sleight-of-hand variety.
$ No wanking or godmoding, obviously.

Well, this is certainly enough interest that it will actually be worth doing. I should get to doing a thorough starting post with descriptions of the town and saloon in precisely two weeks. I'll contact those who have expressed interest by TG if that's alright.

I'll use the opportunity to do an introductory thread to my current character (as he's currently a couple of hundred years old, and a western situation would suit him pre-vampirism - although I'd like him to come out alive, it doesn't matter what conidition he's in).

Name: Tristan Rynis

Place of Origin: Athyrn, Eastern Europe

Age: 24

Height: 6'1"

Hair colour: Very pale blond (almost white)

Eye colour: White, has the effect of making him seem like he has no iris

Distinguishing features: Simple tattoo on left shoulderblade (clan tattoo, but as he is still merely human it is very plain)

Preferred weapons: Revolvers or knives

Notes: Good with pistols and knives, some unarmed combat ability. Enjoys gambling but is not very good at it. Has a slight Eastern-European accent. Well cultured, knowlegeable and smartly dressed.

Profession: Gentleman flunky for the House of Thyrn, currently without any specific tasks.

Wealth: Appears fairly wealthy but does not carry much money. Equipment and clothing is well made, fashionable and comfortable.

I will take part. I would like introduce:

Gus Wallen
Male at the age of 36. Breeds horses and takes pride in the care provided to his steeds. At the age 13 he was thrown from a wild stallion and his left leg was trampled badly, leaving him with a limp. His hair is brown and wind blown from the hours spent riding. He has soft grey eyes;very compassionate gaze.

Padro Nivez
Statistics unknown. Appears to be a male of 24 with brown hard eyes. Notorious horse thief (of course, can't have a breeder without a thief ;) ).

DFD knows what I'm talking about... lol.

Many of my characters are Moroii, or "living vampires." No, they are not invincible, they can be killed just like anyone else can, no, they are not immortal, they are not afraid of garlic, their only aversion to sunlight is that they get sunburned easily, they do not fly, or turn into bats, or any of that stuff. If they're not allowed, that's ok, I'm just wondering if they are.

ooc: Average height has not been steadily increasing as a result of time, but rather it is an indicator of the general health of the population. The more resources and better-nourished generations become the taller they progress. Average height during this period was between 5'6-5'7. Perhaps it was foolish of me to assume a high standard of living?

More importantly however: I was planning on using his tall, lanky awkwardness as an element in the RP. I didn't even look at everyone else's heights, though I could change it as it would not drastically alter him, and would be only a minor revision to my mental image of him if it were deemed necessary.

I would like to introduce:

Pan Carter (yes, i know- strange name combination ;) )
Height: let's just say average - so it won't be historical incorrect
Preferred weapon: long knives or a tie (murder in the darkness...mwahahaha :D)
Occupation: mostly lurking around, doing work he gets at the road
Description: gray eyes, normal body, can slip into a crowd with ease

Then my statement was accurate. We currently have a skewed population for this RP. The reason is largely irrelevant. Having an abnormally tall character doesn't bother me, I'm just getting the feeling that some players are running with the assumption that six foot was average then.

That, or everyone wants to play overly tall freaks of nature :p

If you don't mind another.

Christopher Tynn
Occupation: Thief and cheat, artist, thug of the backstabbing kind (i.e. not much brawn, but good in a fight.
Height: 5'7"

Description:
Tin Chris is slender with tanned skin, brown hair and eyes. He is not particularly remarkable in appearance - his clothes are well-made but not flashy and his pistols well-used by unadorned.
Tynn is famous in his own little corner of the West (under a different name), so famous in fact that he had to get out of town sharpish, before sharp objects started coming his way, but it is quite a way from the little town in question, and with a change of clothes, accent and name he is unrecognisable.
He is an excellent thief, pickpocket and cheat with a talent for drawing and painting. He is fast, something that helps in a fight, but lacking the brute strength to fight fair (or, "stupidly" to his frame of mind) in a brawl.

27-12-2004, 20:38
Name: Lucky Pete
Profession: Former prospecter, went broke after he lost his fingers in a bar fight and lost his ability to dig properly.

Demeanor: Accident prone and only really happy when he's seeing one of his new gun designs being tested (By someone else, he has terrible aim. Although not a problem with some of his designs :D )

...because of some OOC posts being made.

[Oh, what a mess I got myself into... The gun was put back into his jacket. He didn't kill anyone, he didn't fire it. The use of the word WOULD suggests a non-real situation. Ike was just peeking through the window, pointed his gun, and put it back. Why would Ike bother about being as quiet and careful as possible if he had fired the gun? I tried to keep my post and the sentences short, since Ike is a telegrapher, so his thoughts and stuff will be influenced by that style. Apparently it just brings confusion...]

OOC: I understood your post just fine, but I guess I can see how it wasn't clear to everyone.

Everybody: In the future, please take any OOC discussions to the OOC interest thread listed on the first page of this thread. If you want to make an OOC note and tack it onto a post, that's fine, but posts that are entirely or mostly OOC should be made in the OOC interest thread. Or you can telegram each other and work any difficulties out that way.

This afternoon I'll edit my post into an RP entry.

Poor word choice. Anyway, a shower in this sense is little more than a bucket of water over the head. Thanks for catching that, though. I sustained a head injury over the weekend so I've been a little screwed up in my posting. Thought I caught it all, but apparantly not. I'll go edit now.

Actually just a metal cistern out back with a bit of hose and a nozzle on the end would work for a decent shower.

The First real bathrooms were built in the U.S. (Savannah) in the early 19th century. But didn't become popular until 1880 or so. Nothing wrong with Dawn being a progressive girl. (Although the dead horse in the water is likely going to cause a bout of Cholera downstream)

Yep, that's the idea at least (hence the "also breeds horses").
Unless that somehow interferes with something you had in mind for further along in the story?

A little "just incase" post, since I'm pretty new to RPing and am not sure just how much rule-bending is allowed before it gets frowned upon.
I'm referring to the tiny bits of godmodding/moding/whatever I occasionally find myself doing - like in my last post, when I sent Dawn to get some water, things like that.

I don't really think it's a problem, since I only do it with tiny details that have no influence on the story whatsoever and just serve to move things along. Seems a bit silly to me to pause at that point, wait for Gaeltach to post a two line reply about getting water, and then continue the scene. Right?
If I'm wrong about this, don't hesitate to let me know though.

The events my character are going to refer to are similar to the Colfax County War (http://nenewmexico.com/legends.php?page=colfax) Which supposedly left some 200 dead. This was caused in part by the gold feilds of the Maxwell Land Grant. Made by Mexico before the U.S. Mexican War, it was technically illegal being twice the allowable size. (Larger than the entire state of Rode Island,

Gold was discovered and then Maxwell sold the Grant to a Dutch/English group of investors. Trouble began because of squatters on the land and the fact that the gold feild lay 'across' the boundry of the land grant.

Anyway it seemed appropriate to have a similar event to the 'north' with Sheriffs being gun downed and such over this fight over the gold feilds.

I have a question for those of you who've participated in the RP...

Do y'all see a need to continue? There hasn't been much posting on it at all lately, and while I suspect it may be partly due to the summer lull, I think the RP needs some revitalization if it's to continue.

If y'all do want to continue, then is there anything y'all think I can do to improve the RP for y'all?

Fine wine, good food, and scantily clad women.
Now. Anyone with any useful ideas? :D
