An Ancient Wreck (ATTN Space Nations)

Agdar
27-11-2004, 02:24
Four female figures moved swiftly across a grassy plain on the planet of Agdar. There was no mistaking them for human. Each was nine feet tall with light blue skin and darker blue hair. The women wore simple animal skins tied together and hanging to cover their private places in front and rear, leaving the legs bare all the way up. Higher up, another skin was tied across their chests. On their feet, they wore leather boots. Those boots padded quietly across the field as they approached the object.

It wasn't like anything they had ever seen before. The wreckage was a vessel of smooth metal now bent. An outside observer could immediately identify it as a small space vessel of some kind. To the women...well, they had absolutely no idea what they were seeing. It might be a chariot of the gods.

Wide-eyed, the beings entered the gaping hole in the side of the ship, looking around the interior. The ship was irreparably damaged, with wires and panels scattered around on the bent floor. One woman accidentally bumped into just the right panel, causing a loud beep. Spinning, she called out in her language "Is anybody there?"

Unbeknownst to her, a message travels through space, moving rapidly among the stars and accessible to starship communications or to communication systems on distant worlds. "Is anybody there?"

The independent cruiser RGSV Misty Mountain travels through space not far away from the primitive planet, calmly and methodically taking data, for no real reason besides that was what it was assigned to do.

Precise star positions are calculated, solar wind values, dark matter density, all kinds of things are determined and transmitted back to the archives, massive banks of anything you'd ever want to know about anything, for safe keeping.

The ship's precise and sensitive sensors arrays pick up the transmission from a planet not far away, several minute's travel by hyperspace and a few hours on sub-light.

"Incoming transmission from unknown planet F-3. Unable to determine language as it does not fit with any known types," announces the AI to the ship's small crew, all snug in their stations, surrounded by endless streams of data.

"Attention unknown transmitter, what is your status, over?" The AI fires back a response across the Sub-etha net, and the captain stirs himself from bed to take a look at things.

OOC: Not at all.

The women look shocked as further sound comes from the metal itself. All four fall to their knees. Fortunately, one among their number is in training to be a priestess and she speaks to the machine in the language of the spirits, blue head bowed reverently. The language of the spirits, as the ship's AI might or might not be able to tell, is a vulgarization of ancient Sumerian. There is no discernable linguistic connection to the language the women originally spoke in.

"Oh, great spirit, your humble servants are sorry to have disturbed thee. We merely sought to explore in the name of Her Most Wise Emminence, the First Guardian, Emilia val Tamara. How might your granddaughters appease you, great spirit?"

The ship thrummed slightly as the engines propelled it through the firmament, tails of fire streaming from it and other ships of the task force. Weapons turrets lined the sides, its unpainted metal hull giving off an impression of power. There was only one adornment: the black and red banner of the Skeelzanian Reich.

The bridge was a similarly sterile affair. Blinking consoles lined the wall, and still more filled “the Pit” where technicians ran the day-to-day operations of the ship. In this case, it was a Tiamat class Command Carrier, one of the first out of the yard. She and a small escort had been assigned border patrol duty, which explained why they were on the very fringes of Skeelzanian space.

A Commsman jerked awake as his console beeped, signifying that a message had arrived. This being a particularly desolate part of the Frontier, there was little reason for a message to be flying around. Ordering the computer to play the transmission, the ensign dutifully listened, then plugging it into the translator. “Damn xenospeak,” he muttered. The translator, an old Babeltron 2000, churned away for a few moments before giving an answer: 404. Sighing, the Skeelzanian called up his commanding officer.

Lewis Carnelian snapped up in his bed, instantly awake. Punching the receiver on his bedside communit, he listened to the watch officer give a brief description of the problem. Five minutes later he was in the Pit, listening to the message himself. “Babel doesn’t recognize it?” he asked.

The ensign shook his head. “Either an unknown or the Babel is just more junk the dockies crammed in here. Sir.”

Carnelian ignored the quip. “Might be a scout ship for an invasion force as far as we know. How far away is the source?”

“No more than a few thousand gus.”

“A short jump then. Radio the fleet, tell them to form up on the Yavuz and prepare to receive jump coordinates. Nav, plot us a jump to the source.” The crew carried out their tasks with typical efficiency, and before the hour was out the Yavuz, her two escorting cruisers and 3 corvettes were on their way through hyperspace towards the mysterious signal source.

The Patriarch's First Battle Fleet was doing a field exercise a few systems away in a reather empty cluster of nebula's and stellar nurseries. nothing of any uniqueness or importantance making it perfect for training far from prying eyes.

It took 3 days before the message made contact with the Fleet. The night crew was mostly asleep the Kzinti at the sensor console was the only one awake. A loud echoing beeping sound brought the Kzinti to full attention, he played the message once, twice, three times before he decided to wake the others. A forcefully whack to the head of the Kztinti to his left was more than sufficient in waking the Weapons-Operator infact he may enjoyed it alittle.

Soon The entire night crew was awaken and soon Graf-Admiral was on the bridge of the Patriarch's Command ship.

"Sensor Operator, send a lightwave message to the "Slashing paw","Furious Hunter",and"reckless victory"" Graf-Admiral order after he listened to the message personally, there is no doubt if we had gotten the message one of the many monkey species had gotten it aswell, perhaps a full name will be mine if I bring a something home of value.

Soon a channel was opened between the 4 ships The 3 Captains were respectfully silent as their stared at their screens waiting for Graf-Admiral to speak,

"H'rrr you three have been assigned to find out the cause of the transmission, perhaps those of you that have not gained partial names yet might stand to earn one should you bring something of value back for the patriarch. As soon as you enter the system send a lightwave message back to the fleet about your status and if anyone else is there, I doubt there won't be any monkeys their." Graf-Admiral pause for a moment " They seem to enjoy having their noses in every inch of the galaxy."

The 3 Captains raked their claws across their faces in salute before the channel closed and the three ships broke off from the fleet and entered Hyperspace where they would have to travel for a day before they were within reach of the system. upon entering the system the 2 heavy corvettes Reckless Victory, Furious Hunter and the small cruiser Slashing Paw
they imediately starting scanning the system for any other ships and the object which the message came from.

Average Scanners: The planet is earth-like with higher temperature, smaller polar regions, and larger tropical zones. There are two continents, one larger than the other. The signal is emitting from somewhere in the northwestern region of the larger continent.

Good Scanners: All the information above is also included here, of course. Also, signs of low-tech intelligent life is present on the planet with an incredibly low population density. The population is concentrated, though not wholly limited to, the eastern shore of the larger continent. The ship emmitting the signal still has some functional systems but is essentially 'totalled'.

Great Scanners: Life is abundant and diverse. There is only one intelligent species on the planet but it has very high internal genetic diversity. Technology on the surface ranges from stone age to a level equivalent to Rennaissance earth but no society reaches the industrial level. Nonetheless, a total of one thousand individual high tech artifacts seem to be scattered over the planet, most of Goa'uld manufacture. Of these, none register as currently activated besides the ship. One hundred register as having some kind of martial capability.

Following a few hours in hyperspace, the Yavuz (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v87/Bad_Skeelz/ForeignBB3.jpg) and escorts burst back into realspace, on the edge of the planet's gravitational field. Long-range scanners immediately went to work surveying the planet, zeroing in on the message source and gathering anything else that might be useful. An intel officer quickly scanned over the latest printout before tearing it off, then running it up to the Admiral.

Sipping his coffee, Carnelian half-listened to the man as he rambled off planetary information. G class, overly tropical...two continents...evidence of lower class xeno civilization, origin unknown. Finishing his drink, Carnelian took the readout and checked a few details. "Any idea wherethe signal is coming from? Is it from the natives or something else?"

"Comms thinks its coming from the northwestern corner of the larger continent. I don't think its native in origin, sir. It doesn't look like the xenos have the technology to broadcast a signal of this magnetitude."

"Alright. Tell GroOps to get a patrol ready, but first I want a fighter sweep of the area." The officer saluted and rushed off, leaving Carnelian to attend to other duties. After inquiring if there was another pot ready, he called up one of his escorting corvettes. "Any sign of foreign vessels?"

"None for now, sir. But if that signal was as powerful as we think it is, there might be others showing up anytime."

"Well keep an eye out then. Don't want to get caught unawares."

While their Admiral refilled his cup, two heavy Schwarztod fighters rocketed out of the Yavuz's forward hanger, diving through the planet's atmosphere a half-hour later. Flying low over the northern plains, the craft thundered over the mysterious wreck, circling around to get a better look.

As the women remain inside the ship, the fighters fly over a plain grass field with a crashed ship in it. It looks like a Goa'uld shuttle, if they'd recognize one, and seems to have been there for centuries.

((OOC: You'd be able to pick up on the response to LRR's message as well as the original one. It's hardly on a secure channel))

Mean wile in orbit over G-VI the signal that the young girl sent had reached a sensor station:
The communications officer sat back in his large black chair looking at his instruments wondering if he would ever get nay thing he leaned over for a moment to get a ceramic glass, he drank some of the black fine liquid in side it , one of the consoles began to beep loudly. The young officer looked over and tapped a button and ran threw the message …. “Interesting “ he said to him self looking at the wave patterns .

He looked over to one of his other officers an old man about 50 . who was sitting on a chair observing the sensor read outs from scouting missions he said to him “sir I got this weird message its coming from a star cluster in the Omega expanse “ .(ooc that’s the section of space that we call were you’re in ..) the other officer looked back from his duties saying “what that far out?!” the com officer nodded and said “yes I’ve run it threw the UT and it seems that it’s a female saying hello .” hmm the old man thought to him self looking back then saying “well since our fleet isn’t doing much I think we should godhead and have a ship check it out ..” the con officer nodded and agreed .

Star base DS18
…….
The young captain sat in his chair drinking some sweet but tangy Tea from Ceti II . he looked over to his small but metallic console .. he said to him self looking at it “that’s an odd message … “ he pressed a button and listened . To what Commander Freeman at the G-VI senor array had to say “ Captain .. Kayborn I presume ?” “Yes” he replied in an odd voice “what do you need ? “ Freeman chuckled and said “ok in short we discovered a message from a planet in the Omega expanse .. we need a ship to go check it out “ Kay born raised an eyebrow and said “ok I’m listing .. what type of ship do you need..” Freeman said “It would be best to send a galaxy class...” Kay born nodded and said “well I guess I can spare the UFS Lexington…”Freeman nodded and smiled” Good good when shall I be on the ship ? “ Kay born said with surprise “you on the ship?” yes me Kay born replied blinking a bit putting down a cup of coffee…

UFS Lexington
…..
people began to board the ship as rob sat back in his chair looking around t his officer he raised his hand and said “helm set a course to the system were the message was sent from maxim warp ..” as kayborn and freemen stood by the young 17 year old boy in captains uniform skinny well dressed black hair brown eyes .. the ship rushed out with a loud roar towards the system stars passing by quickly . with in a few hours the ship arrived in the system and began humming slowly towards the inner planets

"Ah, the language appears to be similar to Sumerian. Curious that," says the AI.

"Move into orbit above unknown planet F-3."
"Aye, Ion drives at full power."
"Drives operating within safety parameters."
"The return message seems as though whoever sent it thought our reply came from a supernatural being."
"Attention unidentified vessel, do you read us, over?"
"Planet F-3 has many regions of anomalous element composition. Small pockets of spacecraft-grade metals, judging by the spectrometer reading. They look like space ships, but only one, the one we are picking up transmissions from, is showing any energy signature. It also has abundant signs of animal and plant life, owing to its earth-like climate, which is a little on the tropical side. There also appears to be at least one intelligent species, perhaps more but probably one, which is capable of elementary stonework."

The ship's AI reads off its sensors information, or at least as much as it deems necessary to tell about. The crew probably would not care about the dimensions of every single rock and tree on the facing side of the planet.

As the cruiser moves in towards the planet, it picks up other ships, formerly blocked by the planet's orbit.

"Long-range passive scanners are picking up four ships in the vicinity of planet F-3. They appear to be three El Sentinel warships, and perhaps one Skleezanian vessel. Range 2.5 million kilometers to Skleezanian vessel, 3.8 million kilometers to El Sentinel vessels."
"Attention all ships, this is the RGSV Misty Mountain. What is your status, over?"

Rob listened a bit confused but listened since the UT was on .. he said “send a hello message ..“ with that the con officer opened a channel . rob cleared his thought , and said “Hello to evry one out there this is the United Federal ship Lexington . we come in peace .. we are a bit surprised that so many have come to investigate this message as we have .. “ . rob looked over to his helms men “ put us in standard orbit over the planet I want to scan it if there life even primitive life we should learn more about it “ the helms men nodded and did as he was told the ship moved to orbit the planet

As per orders, the FUSC Frigate Resolute had been patrolling nearby space, searching what had previously been empty channels for a whole week.

"Cap'n, we've got something on communications."

Captain Einstechn's eyes lit up.

"Then let's hear it!"

"Aye aye Captain"

"Is anybody there?" The soft voice crackled through the Comm-Channel.

"It appears to be coming from this planet. Designated A#8."

"I see. Most interesting. Take us into orbit and open a Comm-channel to whatever sent it"

-----

The Resolute swiftly entered the orbit of the planet, not expecting what was to come.

"Cap'n!"

"Ensign?"

"We have other ships on sensors. They aren't ours."

"Take us to battle stations. Ensign Uno, warm up the MAC Guns. Ensign Beal, get me communications broadcasting to all ships in the area."

Cries of Aye Aye! resounded through the bridge, as red klaxons popped down. The onboard AI, Marneus, popped up suddenly, appearing to be playing a game of cards.

"Go fish"

Einstechn raised an eyebrow.

"What are you doing?"

"Oh, just beating the Engine Systems at Go Fish. Pretty easy really" Marneus replied casually.

"I see... well, tell me where those ships came from and where that signal came from."

"I'll get right on it"

As per ordered, the comm broadcast opened to all nearby Kzinti, LRR, Skeelzanian, and Federal ships.

"This is Captain Einstechn, FUSC Resolute. Repeat, Captain Eintstechn of the FUSC Resolute. We picked up a signal from this planet. Identify yourselves, repeat, identify yourselves"

"LRR cruiser identified...Fedral ship identifed...unknown ships present, alien origin-"

Carnelian cursed silently at the ever-growing list of ships appearing in the system. "Just how many people received that damn message?" Having been in hyperspace for the last couple of hours, the Skeelzanians had missed the women's reply to the downed ship's AI. Just as well too, since Carnelian already had plenty to think about. "Weps, go to standby. The fleet is going to code yellow." A series of alarms sounded throughout the fleet, ordering crewmembers to drop what their doing and report to battlestations.

As weapon systems warmed up and awaited targeting information, Carnelian set about addressing the various ships in the proximity, some of which were already issuing demands of purpose.

"Unidentified and identified ships, this is the Skeelzanian Command Carrier Yavuz on routine patrol through the Frontier. I am her commanding officer, Rear Admiral 2nd Class Lewis Carnelian. We are responding to an unknown signal issued from this planet; we request that all ships present simmilarly declare their purpose here.

Carnelian signed off from the broadcaster, making sure its 'off' light was definetly lit. Clicking over to another frequency he muttered, "that should hold them. Any report from the fighters?" A voice from the hanger crackled through, saying they were still on recon.

In fact, the fighters were just finishing their recon over the downed craft. Neither recognized the design, though recognizing anything that's been crashed in the open for hundreds of years is difficult at best. Gathering a few minute's worth of video feed, the fighters gave their AM engines an extra boost of energy, shattering the quiet plain sky with two enormous thunderclaps as they boosted back into space.

"Captain, we have a message encoded from nearby vessel."

Ensign Beal leant back in his chair. The Bridge Command Chair swung round, and Einstechn got up and walked over to the Communications Console.

"Alright, open it up"

" from the federal union … we come in peace"

Einstechn cocked an eyebrow.

"Marneus, get me a translation, ASAP"

Marneus minimized and maximized again at the Communications Console.

"Already done. Language: Federal.
the from Unione Federales.. die to prepare you doge's Feltian! Territorya hera belongz to Unioen Federales!"

Einstechn almost leapt back.

"What the hell! Marneus, stop pratting about. Get me the translation"

Marneus laughed.

"That is the translation."

Einstechn stood up, and turned back to the command console. The bridge ensigns all swivelled round, a chorus of "Orders, sir!" following the squeak of the seats.

"Ensign Uno, MAC cannon status?"

"Fully armed sir, safeties removed!" Uno Barked.

"Good. Prep the Nuke. Marneus, you have point control. Arm all Archer missile pods"

"Will do" Marneus zapped back into the system as Uno got the work with the nuke.

"Ensign Jagged, send us straight at that thing. Degrees Point O Six One Two."

"Copy that"

"The Nuke is prepped and armed, Skipper!" Uno shouted.

"Copy that. Get a firing solution to co-ordinates Three O Two Four Niner"

"Sir, thats away from the enemy ship!" Jagged butted in.

"I know Jagged. Stay at your post"

"But, but.. .but"

"Sir, we have a firing solution. Firing at your order."

"Fire... now!"

The nuke soared straight out of the bottom of the Resolute and round the opposite side of the planet.

"Ensign Jagged, set a course at O Zero Two Nine Four"

"Sir, thats a direct collision course!" Jaggied cried out in anxiety.

"I know that Ensign. J ust do it"

The Resolute turned to face the enemy ship and went dead ahead against the Federal ship.

"Ensign, get me a firing solution for those MAC guns. RElease safeties and prime bolts."

"Copy that!"

"Fire.. NOW!"

The Resolute stammered as three bolts of magnetically powered lightening slugs flew straight at the Federal ship.

"Ensign, set evasive manevures"

"Course change, sir?" Jagged asked hopefully.

"Negative Ensign. Stay on course"

"BUT THIS IS SUICIDE!"

"Ensign, stay on course. That is an order!"

Tears dripped slowly down Jagged's face. Reluctantly he set in evasive maneuvres and stayed on course towards the Federal ship. As the Resolute charged straight forwards, the nuke kept going straight away from the engagement.

With all the sudden communications being sent off into the void from other ships the three Kzinti warships had become a buzz with relaying data to each other while the 3 Captains had argued over how to take the next step, of course to Rag'naf-Captain of the Slashing Paw the assigned leader of this little venture theiir opinions mattered little.

"quiet!" Rag'naf-Captain thundered in absolute anger, The two other Captains immediately fell silent. " You will plot a course around the farthest planet, letting the gravity pull you towards the planet, power down to absolute minium have the crew put of their pressurized combat armor only the most nessicary of ship functions, I will go in the other direction and meet up with you just outside the planet's orbit. The prey will not see us till we are feasting on it's liver!"

The 3 captains saluted then the channel closed and the Reckless VictoryandFurious Hunter were off along the fringe of the system while the Slashing Paw moved out aswell in the oppisite direction. It took Rag'naf-Captain immediately after the ship began to move, the power to eerything but bare essentials was turned off including oxygen pumps. they would have to rely on their combat suits ability to clean out excess CO2 for the next several hours and those that didn't manage to get there armor on it time died.

it didn't matter though war in space was slow and they had all the time they needed.

"Sir, first volley hit directly! Enemy shields down!" [OOC: 10%, I know]

"Excellent. How are our MAC guns doing?"

"Sir, MAC Guns at 42,51,49%. ET one minute until recharge!"

"Keep us going ensign."

There was a rumble and a flash as three phasers smacked into the fore of the Resolute, the electronics flashing and them returning to normal.

"What the hell just hit us? Damage Report, Ensign!"

"Sir, enemy weapons. Energy."

Marneus popped up.

"Armour is sustaining. Those things are nasty. Classified: Phasers. There's some severe burns on the front of the Resolute. We've lost Archer Missiles Tango through Zeta. I suggest you let me handle evasive maneuveres"

Einstechn nodded.

"Copy that Marneus. You take em"

The Resolute turned left and right in dodge manuveres as more phasers smacked into the sides, burning system controls and killing some of the crew.

"Sir, MAC Cannons at 82,85,90%!" Uno said.

"Copy that, do you have afiring solution?"

"Sir, yessir."

"Fire at will Ensign!"

Uno bit his lip hard as he pulled down on the trigger, sending three more bolts flying straight at the ship. No sooner had they left the barrel, was there a huge explosion and the Resolute rocked on its side. Marneus however, had taken control and the Feltian ship did a spin to avoid a piece of the damage. Einstech got back up on his feet, as the Resolute took another hit and recoiled.

"MARNEUS! DAMAGE REPORT!"

The AI's calm voice replied "Torpedoes. Decks Hotel through Liro are burning. Fire control is doing okay. Decks Delta through Foxtrot are also burning. We are under control... fire control to a portion of the Archer missiles and point defense is gone."

"damnit. Fire all Archer missil;es."

A stream of the missiles flew at the Federal ship while the [i]Resolute[i] went on a straight course and fired another three MAC cannon shots.

Meanwhile, the nuke soared round the planet.

Missiles and Mac cannon rounds hit reducing Port ventral and aft shields to 75 % (over all shield power now)

[There's 3 MAC guns, and the power is in order of each, right to left.]

Another three MAC rounds sped towards the Federal ship, as well as next group of Archer's.

More phasers hit the 2 metre titanium plating of the Resolute, creating burns and scalding the armour. A torpedo smacked into the side of the Resolute, absorbing more armour and creating a small hole in the side. All uneeded outer decks however, had long been evacuated and thankfully no personell were killed as the doors were sealed.

"Marneus, concentrate. Get us away from those torpedo blasts!" Einstechn ordered.

"I'm trying. It's not easy being an AI you know" Marneus retorted.

The next torpedo flew towards the Resolute, yet the ship swerved to the side and the point defense autocannons whacked it out of the sky. The next torpedo came flying into the front, a hedge of autocannons destroying it in mid-space.

"Two torpedoes down"

"Ensign, MAC gun power?"

"82%,84%,89%" Uno replied.

"Right. Get us to full power MAC guns. Divert 30% engine speed to weapon power" Einsechn ordered calmly.

"Roger. Diverting... done. 89%,93%,96%"

"Good. Wait a second, then fire on my order."

The Resolute swung to the side, the front first then the back, as it lined up a shot on the side of the Federal ship.

"MAC power?"

"93%,96%,97%"

"Release safeties and fire .. NOW!"

The MAC guns, operating at +30% power, spat their deadly load straight at the side of the Federal ship, followed by a wave of Archer missiles.

"Uno, Arm our second nuke. Marneus, swing us round back to were we where and give the engines 10% power back. Set a course straight for their ship."

"Roger that" Uno replied, saluting.

"Will do" Marneus zapped away, busy diverting the power.

"Nuke armed, sir. Safeties off"

"Good. Get those MAC guns warmed up for another shot."

"Copy that. MAC guns at 33%,38%,39%"

"Understood. Marneus, give engines full power. Keep evasives. Get the boosters ready to active"

"Understood Captain."

"Sir, MAC guns at 50%,52%,53%"

"Roger that. Marneus, swing us back to where we were"

Another torpedo swept past, smacking into the top and ripping off two archer missiles.

"Where's point defense!"

Marneus popped back up again.

"I can't do it all on my own. It's a tough job"

"Understood Marneus" Einstechn sighed. "Give me damage report."

"Ah.. we have major damage on the front, sides are sustaining but we have taken some holes from phaser damage. Nothing major, but we-"

BANG

A torpedo smacked right above them, recoiling the ship as all controls blanked and started again.

"Shit. Keep Point Defense going!"

"SIr, MAC Guns at 89%,91%,92%!" Uno reported

"excellent. Marneus, swing us around to the side again, back where we started."

The Resolute followed those orders, while phasers removed another arh
cer missile pod.

"Right, Marneus, give Guns 60% more power!" Einstechn was getting visibly fatigued.

"Done and done"

"FIRE!"

The overclocked MAC guns speared into the Federal ship.

"Get us more power to the engines now, evasive maneuveres. Step up point defense!"

The Resolute span in circles, up, down, left, right, as it kept going towards the Federal vessel.

The Slashing Paw knew only of the battle because of the explosions and streaks of light that brightened the void. by now they were beginng to be dragged towards the planet which the message came from.

2 hours later

the 3 ships had finally regrouped just outside of the orbit of the planet, The power was being restored through the ships. Once again a private channel was opened between the 3 captains

Rag'naf-Captain withheld his laughter as he spoke " it seems the monkeys are at each others throats like cubs at a fresh kill "

"perhaps we should wipe both of the two fools from the face of the system, would make easier later." the Captain of The Furious Hunter quipped in eager to try and earn a partial name.

"that could make things worse aswell you 2 will scan teh planet find out where that message came from I'll prepare my troops for landing as soon as you two find it's location."

"yes dominate one" the two replied and the ships began to move out to scan the planet.

More phaser's ripped through the outer plating of the side armour, searing the shieldless sides.

"Ensign, fire MAC guns when they reach 80%. Target the top"

"Copy that, MAC Guns at 70%.."

"Marneus, bring us round and go straight for that bastard"

"Will do"

The Resolute powered forwards as it sent three MAC shots swirling towards the top of the Federal ship. The nuke that had been coming round the planet however, emerged, heading at Mach 10 towards the Federal ship.

"now!"

Another MAC shot blasted the Federal ship, as several hundred Archer missiles streamed into the vessel. As they came towards it, the Federal CIWS would be too busy to notice the Nuke slam right down on the top-back of the ship.

"Ensign, stat report?"

"The nuke hit. Enemy top shields most likely destroyed."

"Good. Release safeties on the second nuke."

The Resolute was in a vulnerable position...directly on top of the Federal craft, it was showing its precious underbelly to the phaser defences.

[You've been hit by a nuke, 3 mac shots, and about 200 missiles on your top area, where shields are weakest (45%). I would think your shields would have died]

"They certainly seem intent on killing eachother," said Carnelian as he watched the battle on the bridge vidscreen. His executive officer, standing slight behind, murmured his agreement. They continued to watch the Fedral and Feltian warships blast eachother until Carnelian's communit beeped. "Fighters have returned, sir. Have some choice shots of the downed craft."

Leaving the XO in command, Carnelian quickly made his way to the hanger several decks below. By the time he arrived the Flight, GroOps, and Intel officers were already there, though they waited for the admiral before viewing the tape. As the tape came to an end, each were asked their opinions.

"Judging by its size, I'd say its a bomber or pinnance," said the Flight Officer. "Don't recognize its make though," he added. Intel concurred, though he too did not recognize the make. The GroOps, a young Colonel fresh from the Army Academy, was more concerned about any passive defenses than the craft's origin. "I can insert a squad a few hundred meters from the crash sight, and have them go in on foot. Judging from the vidoe I don't think there's anything to worry about, but I want backup for my men all the same."

Carnelian nodded. "I'm sure Weaps can provide all the fire support your men will need. Are they ready for deployment?"

"Yes, sir."

"Good. Launch the shuttle as soon as you're able."

*** *** *** *** ***

The red and black dropship streaked through the atmosphere, a trail of fire marking its passage. As it broke through the clouds its pilot deftly fired the control rockets, slowing the craft to a more manageable speed. Still, sonic booms rippled out behind it as the dropship descended, eventually landing 5600 meters downwind of the crashed ship.

Ten Skeelzanian troopers piled out of the back, their black Templar armor adjusting to a shade of green more or less even with that of the grass around them. Fanning out from the shuttle, their leader scanned the area for signs of life with his helmet-sight. Luckily for the four women, the crashed ship effectively blocked any heat signatures they may have. "LZ's clear. Move out!" The ten Skeelzanians, all about seven feet tall, advanced slowly towards the wreck, each handling his SAR with a casual air.

Einstechn had to think, and he had to think fast. He had missed his hourly call in. They knew.. and it was only a matter of time. In fact, that very second, the FUSC Cruiser Absolute and the two destroyers, Justice and Vengeance were tearing through space, and had just entered the system after routine planetary checks.

"What the hell...."

Einstechn blinked as several of the ships appeared.

"Marneus, whats going on?"

"They're leaving and entering warp, very fast."

"I see..." Einstechn said.

"No you don't."

Einstechn shrugged.

"Turn us around quickly, before thoes torpedoes-"

BANG

The ship recoiled, and was only saved by Marneus' quick calculations as it span to absorb recoil.

"Taken heavy damage on the aft side... decks are burning."

"Goddamnit... where are they!"

"Calculations... here." A little picture popped up on tactical overlay.

"Sir, incoming from the Absolute!"

Einstechn had never been so relieved in his whole life. Even as the ship shuddered from multiple phaser hits, even as reports from all decks came in, minor and major damage had been sustained..

This is the FUSC Absolute, do you read Captain, do you read?

"We read, we read. This is the Resolute To FUSC Absolute!"

FUSC Resolute, sit rep!

"We've been heavily damaged.. engaged a hostile vessel. Enemy target was wounded but they had something that stopped our MAC weapons. Shields maybe"

Understood. ETA to your position 2 minutes. Absolute out

Einstechn sighed deeply. It was over. First contact, and it was a decisive draw.

"Ensign, power up engines. Get repair crews out"

-----

There was a -zap- and three dots appeared on the radar on the bridge of the Resolute. The ships phased in from slipspace, and the force around the planet now totalled two destroyers, a cruiser, and a frigate.

Captain Waffleton strode in the bridge of Absolute, smoking his pipe. It was against regulations, but who cares? At the note that four enemy ships had just warped in, he had immediately ordered battle stations for all ships.

"Sir, the enemy are approaching range!"

Waffleton thought carefully.

"Charge up all the MAC guns. Get everyone else to do the same. Target... that ship. The big one."

The Comm and Fire Control ensigns nodded. About a minute later, all ships had their conventional MAC guns warmed up [19] and the destroyer and the cruiser had their super-mac guns charged and ready to fire [4].

"On my word, open fire."

The tactical sensor array came up in front of Waffleton, and he studied carefully. The enemy was coming into range... five, four, three, two.. one.

"Fire."

Nineteen high-powered MAC blasts [90%] smacked straight into the front of the Federal Galaxy class ship. Waffleton waited for the flickering of the shields.

The field doesn't have any signs of intelligent life. There are a number of small mammals, similar to rodents, that can be seen scurrying about in the field. The creatures are relatively silent and pose no apparent threat. They dive through the grass, hunting insects.

The women turn at the sound of the landing. One of them peeks just slightly out the door. Pulling back in, she speaks to her comrades. "A chariot of the gods has landed. I cannot clearly see any warriors. I can spot movement in one or two places but it seems to blend back into the grass."

Another nodded. "They are spirit warriors then. Were they here to aid us, they would not be acting in this manner. Were they here simply to slay us, they would have done so from the skies."

Yet a third piped up. "What should we do?"

The fourth took on a commanding air. "We do not defy the spirits."
...
The Skeelzanian troops see a native, as described earlier, step from the door, her hands raised above her head. She walks slowly clear of the ship, hands visible the entire time and sinks to her knees about fifteen feet from the crash.

As the MAC guns hit four Super-MAC shots [eight x as powerful as a normal mac shot] careered into the Galaxy class ship.

"Oh my god.." The wave of phasers smacked straight into the fleet immediately, causing a fair bit of damage, but the torpedoes were still to come. They slammed straight into the side of Justice like angry birds into a window, causing huge damage. The fleet entered evasive maneuveres, activating boosters. The other three remained basically unscathed, but the Justice was still burning. The Justice began slipspace engagement. before it entered slipspace, it fired its MAC cannon rounds straight at the front of the Galaxy.

This is Absolute to Justice, what the hell are you doing!

Commander Richards had taken on a grim look. His ship was heavily damaged and internal fires raged. This was one last defiant attempt. It exited slipspace right behind the Federal fleet, the three Nuclear weapons armed.

Waffleton watched the scene unfold in amazement. The Justice had exited slipspace right behind the Galaxy.

"Fleet, arm all MAC cannons of types and fire straight at the front of that thing!"

His order was met with a chorus of MAC shots [15 conven, 3 super] directly at the front of the Galaxy.

Richards gulped. He came right over the top of the Galaxy, fired -all- his Archer missiles, and dropped three nuclear weapons at the same time. The point of impact was the top of the ship, placed so that it would spread down into the front of the Galaxy. The resulting explosion, by his knowledge, should hammer the ship down and the next MAC volley should rip through it...

Hundreds of the missiles, accompanied by the nukes, dropped straight down on top of the ship as the Justice entered slipspace... to late. The back was caught in explosions and torpedo fire and was literally ripped from the ship. The engineless craft floated down into the planet... as escape pods crammed with marines ejected down onto the surface.

Waffleton, catching the idea, fired all the MAC guns left in the fleet again directly at the Federal ship. This had to work.. for all their sakes.

The gunshot could easily be heard and it made Ca'tok-assault captain's fur raise on end, it seems the monkeys are here..

He quickly called his Kzinti Warriors in "it seems the monkeys have found something at the crash sight or it's the survivors from those two ships continuing the war down on the planet..."

there was a general murmur of amusement and fear/anticipation among his troops, He pointed as his 2 snipers and one of his regular warriors "you 3 go find the highest elevation and report in when your in position "

The three raked their claws across thier muzzles in salute before running off north of the squad on all fours, he watched them disappear before continuing "the rest of us will divide and conquer, split up into threes, be swift and precise do not engage unless I say " he emphasised that last part strongly for the more foolish Kzinti warriors under his command

"may the One Fanged God smile upon our hunt." his squad quickly followed orders and all bound off in threes on all for legs in a long line.

30 minutes later

"Dominate one, This is Sniper-chief reporting in it seems there are monkeys already at the crash site " Chief-Sniper spoke in a hush as he stared into his holographic reticule that provided a up close look at the action below.

"I can see and smell the scent of an injured prey but I do not see it among the monkeys below."

"good, report in should anything else happen I do not want to hunt blind" Ca'tok-Assault Captain replied as he leaped over a fallen tree his following warriors barely keeping pace.

As the soldiers approach, the women bare their necks in an obvious gesture of submission. The wounded woman stares uncomprehendingly as the sergeant yells at her. She already surrendered. For her part, she's just waiting for him to indicate what he wants her to do. She speaks in broken Sumerian. "I...no know what... you say." She points to his mouth, then to her ears, then shakes her head. "You want me come with?" She points to herself, then to his ship, then shrugs questioningly.

After several moments of clueless staring, the three uninjured women lower their hands slowly, keeping their open palms in view the entire time. They press their wrists together and look to the soldiers with brows arched inquiringly. Perhaps the spirits wish them restrained somehow, as captives often are in wars.

As they're hit by the spray of bullets, the other women bear looks of utter shock. This was unknown in their laws of war. One dies instantly. The other is mortally wounded, even beyond Federation medicine. The third, very severaly injured, is still alive and might have a chance in a high-tech medbay. None are speaking or moving.

The woman being pulled leaps to her feet and runs along with the soldier. It's necessary, really. She must weigh five hundred pounds and would be rather hard for a human to drag at any speed. Whether she comes because she considers her surrender binding in spite of recent events or from fear of the guns is anyone's guess. Her expression is resentful but non-threatening. She grunts once or twice as the running jars her injured arm, following him aboard his ship.

Bereft of medical attention, the one woman who could have been saved expires with her mortally wounded comrade. Three native corpses now lie in a pool of blood fifteen feet from the wreck.

The wreck itself is covered in vines and other growth, smeered with dirt. Goa-uld markings, ressembling ancient Egyptian, are faded and almost gone from its side. Inside, parts and wiring lies strewn about the room. One or two lights are still on. Tricorders pick up only a few power signatures within the ship. The ancients chair still stands, coated in a thick layer of dust. A small mammal scurries out of a panel where it seems to have made it's home. The creature has dark black fur and no tail.

The back of the ship is even more damaged. The walls jut inwards from the bang of the crash, preventing access to the rear compartments of the vessel. Unfortunately, those compartments are the source of the strongest energy reading in the whole vessel.

The computer banks contain a database of Stargates in the NS universe and pretty much no other useful information that hasn't been destroyed. When translated, the outer markings identify the ship as Shuttle 8. Three piles of dusty, half-decayed documents are found. The first pile shows images of the natives in captivity. They are in chains doing manual labor, in cages, or on lab tables being experimented upon. The second pile shows the natives as they are on their own. The females are dressed like the women dead outside and armed with spears and arrows. The men wear a long tunic of hide and are noticeably shorter and weaker. None of the pictures show armed males. The third picture shows the natives dressed in the armor of eagle-headed jaffa. The Agdari carry staff weapons and bare the forehead markings of Lord Ishtar.

The shuttle captain lazily flipped through pages of his book, one of the pulp fictions printed en masse for the military. Hearing a popping noise outside, he looked out over the plain. "Shit!" Tossing the booklet away, he punched the ship's ignition just as the sergeant hefted the native into the back compartment, scrambling up himself moments later. One by one the squadmembers reached the shuttle, until all but one was unaccounted for. Phaser bolts splashed against the armored sides as the craft lifted off, its two autoguns whirring into action. Bullets impacted all around the Fedrals as the Skeelzanians boosted back into space.

"There were four, you said?" Carnelian peered at the native through the door slits, trying to make out its general form. The specimen had been thrown in a holding cell almost upon arrival, and had been given basic treatment for its injuries (as far as the medics could tell at any rate. You try administering first aid to an alien life form.)

The onboard xenologist glanced at his check pad. "Yes, sir. The soldiers were forced to kill the others when a trap was sprung, though we're not sure by whom. When they exited the downed craft, the women were armed with primitive weapons: spears, bows, et cetera."

"And the grunts were attacked with phasers. The Fedrals perhaps...? Bah, we're not here to start another war with them. Examine the creature at your leisure, we're pulling back to the system fringe." The xenologist saluted, each man then returning to his respective stations.

In his small cabin the 'xenodoc' surveyed his tools with his two assisstants. "Pity the grunts only bagged one," he said. "We'll have to be conservative with our studies." The three men each donned rubber gloves and then wheeled their cart, filled with your standard doctor tools as well as a few things you would most definetly NOT want to be subjected too while at the doctor's, into the holding cell.

Securely latching the door behind them, the three Skeelzanians surronded the Agdari in a corner. The xenodoc looked the creature over quickly, sizing it up. Turning, he selected a neural hook-up from the cart, placing it on the Agdari's head while the others stood poised to intervene. One carried a stun-pistol, hoping that the creature had learned to fear guns.

Firmly securing the mesh of wires and electrodes to the specimen's scalp, Dr. Mouhad, for that was his name, took a step back. "Now creature," he intoned, "what is your name?"

She rises, kneeling when the doctor and the other men enter the holding cell, making no move to resist the neural device. "My name is Eleanor tal Marin. I am now your servant, great god, according to the laws of my people. I..." She hesitates, eyes tearing up further. Ca'tok-Assault captain had a plan simple in design but effective none the less.
he opened a small channel to the Slashing Paw.

"Dominate one, I require a the use for a fighter, I need it to do a strafing run over the crash site, no weapons fire I just need a very low and slow fly by over" Ca'tok-Assault captian waited patiencely for a reply. 30 seconds later a reply came.

h'rr, a fighter is being sent, I expect you to explain yourself upon your return. and with the reply the channel was closed. Ca'tok-Assault Captain opened a channel to his sniper team "Chief-Sniper premission to fire on the monkeys should they engage our trap, make your shots count "

"yes dominate one, ready to engage"

He sent 10 of his warriors south of his position where the forest jutted out 5 meters ahead of the line he was at. it took nearly 2 minutes for the fighter to reach the crash site. Ca'tok-Assault captain watched anxiously as the fighter flew over the craft slowly.

The fighter was infact so close when it flew over teh object that it made the entire area shake with a pulsating humming sound. As soon as it was done it's fly by the fighter left the area for home.

"we will wait for night fall.." Ca'tok-Assault captain opened a chanel to the sniper team " we will wait for night fall, report in should anymore appear or if they leave"

"yes dominate one"

perhaps we should abandon the crash site for now, the ... creatures that would of been able to help are now dead and the wreck is worth nothing till they can find a creature that could read it.

Your humble servant does not understand why you, in your infinite wisdom, had need to call them to your service in your true home."

Mouhad nods, writing quickly on his clipboard. They think us gods. Interesting, he muses. Perhaps we can exploit this. Again he addresses the xeno. "Your sisters were of lesser nature, and their extermination was ordered by the Great One. You co-operating with us further, or you shall face a similar fate." He spoke to one of his assistants in battlespeak, "continue with the normal tests. I must inform the Admiral of this developement."

*** *** *** *** ***

"Gods, you say?" Carnelian gazed at the blue-green world filling the vidscreen, hands clasped firmly behind his back. He was meeting with Dr. Mahoud in his personal cabin; the xenodoc had said it was important.

The man nodded eagerly. "Yes, they think us gods! We may not have to crush this species out of hand after all! We can use them, exploit them, have them run our mines-"

"SCARR is quite capable of smelting ore without using frail xenos as labour." The Admiral turned from his vidscreen, crossing over to the minibar and making himself a drink. "What possibile use can these things have? Their civilization is primitive, they haven't even developed guns for Spoot's sake. True they are somewhat physically superior, at least this sample is." He downed his drink quickly, not offering one to the doctor. "In any case, religious zealots have a tendency to spiraling out of control. No, I don't like the idea of utilizing them."

Mouhad took a step towards him, his voice taking on a pleading edge. "But think of the possibilites! If their birth rate is high enough, we could have found the next grunt soldier for Skeelzania. They could prove a useful asset against the Arenumbergians and Fedrals, if we just speed up their development a little. And of course, there are less martial uses..."

"I favor shorter women myself." Carnelian turned, looking the doctor straight in the eye. "And we both know what happened when the Ork culture was artificially enhanced. But if you are right about these creatures as cannon fodder, it would be wrong for me to forgo a new meat shield for the Army." He stopped, taking a deep breath before continuing. "As commander of this flotilla, I grant permission for this...'experiment' to go forward. You, my good doctor, will be incharge of the ground mission. I will contact Solomon and get official backing and funding if I can, otherwise I can only provide limited support."

A short time later the holding-cell door swung open, a practically giddy Mouhad rushing in. His assistants looked up, startled, one still gripping a pair of tongs. "You have not damaged the women too badly, I fear? Good. You, Eleanor, stand up." He waited for the Agdari to get too her feet before continuing. "The Great One has deemed it necessary to return to his servant's world, we myself acting as his avatar. We shall return to your world, where you shall direct me to your People. Follow the guards, we have no time to waste." Escorted by a guard detail, Mouhad and Eleanor made their way to the hanger, boarding a dropship prepared for them. They would fly to the crash sight where she was collected, and from there she would direct them to her village, or where-ever it was these degenerates congregated.

In an empty field, warrior women practice with spear and bows, showing significant expertise. These are not naive girls straight out of childhood, as the women who died at the crash were.

Although the Justice had been lost, it's crew had not been. The Justice had been holding a company of Marines [120], and they had ejected once the ship was evidently falling into orbit. The pods had smashed down into the ground of the planet, around the signal.

Lieutenant Rastan was in command of the Marine detachment. His men had landed two hours ago, along with some crew and Commander Richards. He had taken 1st Platoon and advanced towards the signal... when there was fire. The zaps of phasers and the ratatatatat of bullets could be heard by Rastan's platoon. He had signalled for reinforcements, and now behind a low hillock lay around seventy men of the FUSC Marine Corp.

"Sergeant, whats going on?" Rastan whispered.

Sergeant Tulan lay on the hillock, his sniper rifle tucked into his shoulder.

"Seems something's going on. Could be the people we fought above. Some sort of other species. Humanoids."

Rastan nodded. He was glad they had Tulan.

"I see... How many?"

"Not sure. We outnumber 'em, though." He spoke again, the rifle not moving from his grip.

"Right. I'm going to take 1st Platoon and circle this... site. Select the best shooters from 2nd and spread 'em out here. Get the others over to where i'm heading."

"Copy that skipper." Tulan waved. "Spritesky, Alianne, Telshiv, spread out. Target any possible locations. Keep our boys covered."

Rastan smiled. He led his troops round the crash site. At the wave of a hand, they charged into the construct and spread out... voices could be heard inside.

It's main interest seemed to be the planet. It would not go combata ctive unless fired upon, which would be a terrible mistake. Once in orbit, then a hole opened in the twisting enigmatic gel-like substance that surrounded the ship (which was actually several lightyears of compressed space swirling around the ships wormholedrive). This hole birthed multiple points of light, which were actually four fighters and two dropships. These entered atmosphere. Destination: Shuttle crash site.

"Kshat.." this time he wasn't speaking english but Hero's Tongue the Kzinti Native language. he slowly walked forward drawing a long barbed sword from his back sheath. He tossed it into the ground at the man's feet.

The sword was a Wtsai blade a symbolic weapon proving his adult hood and also widely used in combat and duels. to a human it would of been comparable to a broad sword or larger and weighing 2 times as much.

The 14 other Kzinti Warriors moved closer and made themselves comfortable with great interest. such duels were rare and one that would affect the future of an entire civilization is even rarer.

The Warthog bounced over the hill toward the settlement.

"Lieutenant, looks like we have contact, over"

The words cracked through the comm-link.

"Copy that Sergeant. Take us to 'em"

The lead Warthog swerved down, and straight through a fjord as water gushed upwards onto the muddy hull of the jeep. They took another path, and all of the nine soldiers took a deep breath in awe. They drove slowly down a mud path, fields on either sides. And on those fields, worked humanoids. They drove into the village, the humanoids watching them [Same village as E.S and TFU] and the Lieutenant disembarked. He vainly shouted into the village.

"Who is your leader!"

Banks and O'Leary reached the a cliff looking over the crash site. O'Leary took out his binoculars and looked over at it, seeing several men in white suits patrolling round the wreck. He passed the binoculars to Banks for him to see and radioed in; "This is Private O'Leary to Sargeant Thomson, do you read?"
"Yes private, what is it."
"I found the place where the signal is coming from but there are soldiers patrolling it. They look Terran, but I'm not sure."
"Ok, Private, you and Banks return to camp."
"Rodger."
They picked up their equiptment and headed back. Meanwhile Thomson was reporting to the captain.
"...It's guarded then?"
"Yes, I don't know what faction they belong to though."
"They might not be hostile but I'm not taking any chances. I'm sending fire team Bravo and Charlie and two warthogs to assist. And remember: Don't shoot until they start shooting at you, I don't want this to start a war."

Cheif Sniper looked down at the crash site from his perch scanning the area, his holographic reticule giving him a clear precise view of the monkeys down below.

"h'rr the monkeys are worthless prey they do nothing!" He muttered to his partner and the Kzinti warriors ordered to protect the two.

"all they do is scurry about in and out of the objective ... " Second Sniper replied impatiently.

"I see something comrade, 2 monkeys. a sniper pair... comrade find the other one" Cheif Sniper adjust the zoom and took aim at the one with with the binoculars

"yes dominate one " Second Sniper responded excitedly as he scanned the ridge across from them, he took several seconds to find and take aim on the one who previsously had the binoculars. He zoomed his holographic reticule in reading the armor on the monkey as eh walked before taking aim.

"as soon as we fire get up and retreat we will take up another position later." Chief Sniper said in a hushed calmed voice. "Fire.."

a pair of thin red beams shot out from thier hiding spot across the crash site towards the ridge at the two monkeys in a blink up an eye.

it did not take long for the 2 Kzinti Snipers to bound off on all fours followed by the Kzinti warrior ordered to protect them.

Ca'tok-Assault Captain lowered his Weapon as he walked towards the intruders. His body language was easy to read, absolute hatred of the monkeys. He stopped infront of the commanding officer and leaned over him his black lips once again curled up into a wicked smile. His bat like ears slowly moved back hugging his head firmly as he spoke slowly in english making sure the monkey could hear and understand each and every word

"Leave now monkey before I feast upon your liver, it would due your honorless race wise to stay out of the affairs of Patriarch and all of the kzinti."

A thunderous roar emitted from the mouth of Ca'tok-Assault Captain as he clenched and opened his hand as 5 long razor sharp claws came out from the ends of each finger.

"Leave..."

Atlantian Scout Patrol, 4th fleet, Sol system

Four Jaguar destroyers and a Centaur light cruser closed in on the Mars planetary system cloaked. The four destroyers where known as the Set, the Hammaraubi, the Athena, and the Itza. The cruser's name was the Thor. Their mission: simple reconnosence for the Atlantian Federation, a whole star cluster away. but this scouting trip was about to take an unexpected turn...

"Sir, I'm detecting a transmitton coming from the J-9 system, in some unkown language" said the communications officer.

Commander Sorath looked over at him. "Have you checked through the language library?"

"Yes. None match. And there also seems to be alot of ship signatures above one of the planets"

"Really? Well, that sounds alot more interesting then watching stations turn. Set a course, and have the rest of the group follow us. Keep us cloaked"

"Yes sir" the navagation officer replied, pushing several buttons. The scout group instantly turned and headed to the outskirts of the Sol system, where a Jump Node leading to the J-9 system lay. The five ships entered the bluish wormhole, and vanished, reappering on the other side moments later. Only those with the ability to detect cloaked ships would know the Atlantians had arrived.

"The scouting team we sent haven't returned. I suspect KIA, I hope I'm wrong."
"Well, at least we know that someone on this planet is hostile." Replied the leader of Bravo team

Back on the Stromwind the Captain Chesterfield returned to the bridge. "Anything to report?" She asked.
"There was a rupture in sub space but I didn't detect any ships."
"A failed attempt at using hyperdrive to get away?"
"Probably. But because we're in the magnetic field I can't normally detect entries into subspace, like hyperdrive or wormholes. I can only detect exits. Something has entered the system."
"Ok, tell Thomson and his men to be on the watch out for more than Terrans."

OOC: I've read some of this thread and someone has explained the situation to me, I might join in now if that’s ok. My first FT RP!

Also, sorry for the awful intro post, I just want to get involved and I'm going to watch a film a bit later anyway.

IC: Aboard the Zakian warship (http://www.freewebs.com/zakiaa/zakiaswarships.htm), the Justice, Admiral Kurdun Zaphiir played back the message a few times before turning around to face the rest of the bridge, "Alright people, it looks like we have found some Ancient Tech, it looks pretty damn advanced, who thinks we should go and get it?"

A huge chorus of cheers and acknowledgements told Zaphiir that he should make his way to the planet.

"Take us into warp!" Zaphiir ordered.

The space began to distort into whirlpools around the three ships, two Harbinger MKII Frigates and the Vigilance grade cruiser, before the three ships *popped* out of existence...

Zaphiir looked out of the glass of the bridge, the skies were distorting as wild hues were thrown in all directions, lightning crackled and, after ten seconds of hell: it stopped.

Justice emerged into normal space, two smaller ships emerged from their whirlpools moments later, both undamaged.

"Status report! Immediately, Warp can screw up a ship's systems more times that not."

"Checking sir...all green, even the EnPro reactor is A-OK and that thing just loves to get busted up in Warp."

"Thank you Ensign and I just noticed one thing about this Ancient Tech..."

"What would that be sir?"

"We aren't the only ones who found it!"

Zaphiir, along with the rest of the crew, scanned the fleets through the view port, a multitude of different ships from different cultures.

"Its most likely they are already planetside, lets get some men down there!"

<<<----------------->>>

Master Sergeant Kurgan Reicher had his teeth clamped firmly together, the rattle of the large scale droppod boring into his ears, the intense heat as the pod smashed through the atmosphere, he clenched his eyes shut, only opening them once to that the rest of his ten man squad were doing the same.

Kurgan gave a curse when the pod finally hit the ground, it sent Kurgan's head into his shoulders while the pod's AI gave an ironic remark, "We hope you had a pleasant drop and have a nice day!"

Once the Master Sergeant was finished rounding up his men, resplendent and sinister in their full green metallic battledress, he had his Comms Officer radio the other four squads to see if they were all good-to-go - and to make sure they their ATVs had landed successfully.

Kurgan sent two men to go and fetch the ATV that had landed nearby in it's own droppod while he told the Comm's officer to relay commands to the other squads.

"OK, Alpha team is the Command Unit with me, Kurgan...Alpha team will be paired with Delta team, both of these teams will head towards a village that scanners picked up, Charlie team and Bravo team will head to the crash site that has the Ancient tech, understood?"

A chorus of rogers came through the Comm. Officer's speaker.

"Well then ladies, this operation is officially underway."

Within moments, Alpha team and Delta team were crammed into their ATVs heading towards the village as Bravo team and Charlie team we making their way to the crash site.

OOC: Once more, I'd like to apologise for the mediocre quality of this post, I'll post with more detail and higher quality later on, I'm a bit short on time here.

The underlord Hemen, a minor goa'uld in the scheme of things, commanding a single ship, was rather bemused by his find. A long range signal of this kind was quite rare - the transmission device was not used by the forces of any current System Lord, not to his knowledge at any rate. It had briefly been used in Tel'taks several centuries ago, but had been superseded since by a more effective module scavenged from a different race at a later date.

That said, Hemen was not one to let an opportunity for advancement pass him by. Fortunately for him, Atum permitted a certain kind of latitude in his underlings, the kind that one would be foolish to consider freedom. He had merely found that they worked better when scheming for their own benefit. As such, he'd taken his mothership from standard assignment, and ordered it to set a course for sight of this abandoned goa'uld transmission.

The transmission had been interpreted fairly easily, the goa'uld were familiar with this language, or at least, with its origin, and were quite willing to learn new languages. It did not seem to be from a goa'uld, which was helpful. Of course, Hemen's first step was to calculate the sequence of glyphs representing the origin of the signal in the vast network of stargates - a device constructed by an ancient race of terrifying power and spread to many thousands of worlds - and compare it to the database of the ship. When no match was found, he was forced to conclude that the planet in question either did not possess a stargate, or that its location had not been made known to the System Lord Collective, the ruling body of the goa'uld. Analysis of the signal gave an ancient imprint of Hathor {And or Ishtar - Daniel Jackson seems to think they're the same goa'uld. Your mileage may vary of course} who had not been heard of for some time.

Now, after a comparatively short time in hyperspace, the goa'uld had arrived. Over the planet - his confidence was so great as to not try for subtlety - the great metal point of the ha'tak class mothership, a vessel over six hundred meters long and from many angles as wide as it was long. A blue flash of light heralded the ship's arrival as it decelerated from the speeds it was able to achieve in hyperspace.

The jaffa warrior - a human modified by genetic engineering to carry a wormlike goa'uld symbiote in an abdominal pouch, among other things - at the main controls of the vessel spoke to Hemen, "My lord, there are other vessels in orbit. They are not goa'uld. Raising shields."

Hemen bit his lower lip in annoyance. He had hoped that such a thing would not be the case. "Ignore them," he ordered, "scan the surface for the vessel that send the transmission."

"Yes my Lord," he said, "It is a Tel'Tak of outdated design as you suspected Lord."

"Interesting," he said, "Send a diagnostic signal to its transporter rings," he ordered, "and find out if they are operational."

"Yes Lord," the operator replied, manipulating the controls.

The rings still work.
Lord Atum
13-01-2005, 09:40
Upon hearing that the transporter rings still operated, Hemen stood, a long crimson cloak flowing out behind his golden armour. "Good," he said, "I shall go down to the planet. Jaffa, kree," he ordered in the main goa'uld dialect, causing three armed guards to step forward, and pushed a button on the collar of his armour. With a grinding sound, the metal plates of the helmet slid up over his head, seemingly coming from nowhere and snapping into place to form a high helm based on a falcon with glowing red eyes in the same gold plated metal as the rest of his armour.

"See if your sensors can detect a chappai on the surface as well," he said, "It should be a priority to re-establish stargate contact with this world." His voice was distorted and somewhat metallic as he spoke from behind the helmet. He strode off towards the back of the ship's bridge, flanked by the three other jaffa. Two of them now wore the same falcon helmet as he himself did, and the third wore a helmet styled after an exotic animal, possibly an ant-eater. They stood in the centre of a marking on the floor, and Hemen activated the control on his ribbon device, a weapon worn on and around the hand.

A set of five naquadah, apparently a dark stone, rings quickly descended from the ceiling, holding themselves in a position around the four armoured figures. A light shone down from above as the rings snapped into place, hovering around the party. Outside the ship, a white beam shot out to meet the shuttle. The air inside the rings flashed a white-gold, and the travellers were gone, vanishing down to the planet, and the sealed rear compartment of the abandoned Tel'tak.
Lord Atum
15-01-2005, 12:44
The goa'uld party arrived in the dusty rear compartment in a flash, raising tremendous clouds of dust which, were their helmets not sealed, would have posed severed problems to breathing. Hemen looked around, and with a disparaging comment about the lack of repair, strode over to the door of the compartment. There was no control panel on that side of the door - the tel'tak class was used for imprisonment of slaves at a stretch, and was designed with that in mind. However, most goa'uld carried kara-kesh ribbon devices, which were capable of sending a signal, uniformly implemented on standard equipment by decree of the System Lords, they operated many goa'uld technologies. Hemen was no exception, and soon used both it and simple brute force to open the door.

He stepped into the room beyond and immediately sat down in the pilot's seat. A few moments of analysis using the computer revealed that the ship was in no condition to fly. Indeed, its power systems were not in a state to do much either. Mercifully, ring transporters, like their cousins the stargates, received their power from the transmitting platforms. After adjusting the communications system so that it would target his ship he ordered, in goa'uld, mindful of the possibility of others listening in, that the ship send down a portable naquadah generator with an operator to connect it to the ship's power grid and recharge its onboard batteries.

'Of course My Lord,' was the reply 'we have located the stargate, shall we send troops to secure it?'
It took a moment to order that a transporter-ring equipped ship with escorts be sent down. The Setesh Guard, kneeling behind Hemen, analysed the disturbed dust. "My lord. Two, perhaps three groups have been here recently, the first were heavy, possibly armoured, wearing simple footwear - as many as four or five."

Hemen turned in the chair, observing where the paper notes had previously lain, "something has been taken as well." He could hear the flash of the transporter rings as a leather and mail clad jaffa warrior came down with the reactor.

"The second group were humans, also heavy from these treads, from the looks of things. They came for a brief time and left. They appear to have examined the ship in greater detail."

Outside, the Setesh Guard, Ke'lar, crouched again, leaning on his staff weapon, "This appears to have been the site of a brief struggle, if it can be called that. The first group came out, some cast down weapons, and knelt - one separate from the others, possibly a leader," he said, his black armoured head turning as he picked out the blood splattered against the door, "and was shot, while unarmed."

One of the soldiers with the falcon helmets made a brief remark about dishonour, and the others nodded. Hemen, marginally more pragmatic, just cast a glance at the landing area of the Skeelzanian vessel.

"The other three also came out, and put down their weapons. From the crushed grass and blood, they were also shot, and fell with a great deal of blood, likely dead," he pointed with the butt of his staff weapon toward the shallow graves, recently dug. "Curiously large," Hemen said, "We are likely not dealing with humans."

The tracker nodded his agreement, "Over eight, possibly nine feet tall from these impressions."

"What can you tell me about their murderers?" Hemen asked. He was certain that they were not goa'uld at least, from their use of 'crude' projectile weapons. As such, he considered them to be essentially killing their equals, and thus, murder.

Ke'lar stood and walked over to the tracks left by the xenophobic Skeelzanians, "Heavy. Armoured," he said, looking at the deep impressions, sharp because of the boots of their powered armour, "Relatively advanced Taur," he said, "Space travel, obviously," he nodded with his snout toward the crushed grass and indented ground where the Skeelzanian shuttle had landed, "They came, shot their victims with projectile weapons, and left in a hurry. They're obviously not the group that were examining the Tel'tak. I suppose that that group may have driven them off.

"Then a fourth group appears to have arrived," he said, walking over to the K’zinti tracks, much more cleverly concealed than the others, and he was unable to tell how many there were, or their equipment, "definitely not humans. They left in that direction," he said, pointing off with his staff weapon. "I suspect there may be signs of native settlement in that vicinity."

Hemen looked off, and activated a telescopic sight of his helmet. He could see nothing, other than what might be a wisp of smoke though. "For now, it's best to leave them alone then," he said, erring on the side of caution, unsure of the K'zin numbers or strengths. Instead he looked around until he found another direction that could hold a village. "We go that way."

He looked at one of the Horus Guard, not wanting to leave an operational naquadah reactor and its operator alone, "Ka'nek, kree, hal mek nowe a tel'tak" he said, ordering Ka'nek to guard the fallen shuttle. The underlord looked at the recently dug graves and contemplated having them exhumed. Unfortunately, there would be little point. Bodies of that size would not fit in the sarcophagus aboard his ship, therefore they would have to be sent to Tartarus for revival if he wished to do that, and he would need to call in credit to have such a thing done, to no tangible gain. He examined the weapons the Agdari had thrown down, content that they were not sophisticated enough to be any threat, and began walking off in the direction he suspected the other local village to be in.

Meanwhile, in orbit, the goa'uld mother ship launched three small vessels from its underside. The first was a standard death glider, the basic goa'uld fighter seen on a hundred worlds. After that came another of a similar type, but larger, with a wingspan of over sixteen meters. It carried on its underside another set of transporter rings. Essentially it was a mobile ring platform, which would allow easy access to the stargate. The third was another death glider, following up as escort. They swept down toward the planet like gigantic swooping birds, ignoring the other vessels in the area.

Meanwhile back on the ship, everyone was working quietly, they had not seen anything for hours, until suddenly the ops console beeped loudly, the ops officer rushed over form talking with the helmsmen and taped on the console. He scanned and found that some thing had teleported down to the surface. He said in a confused yet concerned voice, “Sir were detecting a teleport... It looks like it's in the vicinity of the shuttle,” he taps and again the console beeps , “I suggest we beam a party down to see what’s going on,” the captain sighed and looked up as the crew worked quickly and briskly around them he said “get an away team of eight ready, I want to see what’s going on there,” ops nodded , the captain rushed to a turbolift and several moments later shuffled over to the transporter room, where eight people stood, four were marines and four were scientists. He and the others stepped up to the transporter pad, the captain nodded to the petty officer who taped on the console, a blue stream of light and particles enveloped the team of eight as they shimmered down directly in front of the shuttle, they all looked around wondering who was down here as the captain and a four man team started scouting around.

Ka'nek saw the away team turn the corner of the overgrown tel'tak. The armoured helmet following his head's movement, but limiting his vision somewhat. The armour plates slid over one another like the well lubricated machine that they were, and the glowing red eyes of the falcon helmet regarded each of them in turn. He turned, bringing the long staff weapon he carried to face the interlopers, "Identify yourselves!" he demanded, his voice distorted by the helmet's concealed speakers.

In the engine compartment of the Tel'tak the second jaffa was busy hooking the reactor up. He had slid one of several panels containing crystal like computing circuits out, and removed a pair of dull yellow ones, replacing the first with a thick cable from the box containing the reactor. After he pulled down a grey handle. The reactor began to hum, lighting a dull yellow colour. Several of the crystals in the array it was plugged to also began to glow, as the whole thing lit up. Then he heard Ka'nek's proclamation nearby, and stood, drawing a sidearm and a personal communicator device.

The Agdari Stargate was surrounded by a large village of Agdari men and women going about their daily business. Hunters were returning from nearby woods with small, alien animals. A large temple built in the ancient Sumerian style stood a mile or so away, accessible by a clear road.
Lord Atum
17-01-2005, 09:54
The first of the three death gliders settled into position over the stargate, practically ignoring the village all around it. The second, larger version of the birdlike spacecraft settled in front of the stargate, and after a moment’s wait, a seam appeared in its belly, splitting open in a hiss of steam to reveal a set of rings, much like those of the cargo ship, which descended down to the ground. In a flash, six more of the elite jaffa warriors from the ship in orbit appeared, and looked around at the crude alien settlement.

The first of the jaffa looks around at the Agdari for a moment, and, settling on a course of action that seemed better than trying to converse with the natives – though he recognised some basic words, he did not comprehend more than the occasional single word – he strode over to the plinth with concentric rings of symbols on it that stood near the stargate, and began pressing them one after another.

17-01-2005, 10:25
After a short time, the stargate shut off, quite what the falcon headed man had said into the stargate via the communicator built into his helmet was unknown, but a scant few moments later, the inner ring of the stone circle began to spin again.
Lord Atum
17-01-2005, 10:40
With a visible flush of blue-white energy, the stargate opened once again, and what appeared to be a human man stepped through. He was tall, and selected for what were, to the mind of the goa’uld that infested him, good looks. Around his left arm he wore a golden ribbon device, and around the right, what would, to a modern observer, appear to be a wristwatch, albeit a rather sophisticated and bejewelled one.

He looked around for a long moment, and, picking a native who seemed to be something of a leader to his mind, walked over. He spoke in ancient Sumerian, which the initial communications had said was the language here, “What is your name?” he asked…

“Excellent,” he said in a deep, reverberating and inhuman voice, “I am Jarith, servant of the God known as Atum.” He considered permitting her to rise, but given that she would tower over him by a good three feet, he decided that it was not worth the effort.

He waited a moment, and then asked, one eyebrow raised, “Now, tell me, where can one find the First Guardian?”

Janith pondered this information for a moment, “I cannot think of anything I wish from you right now, unless you have any information about the temple you would wish to tell me, thus, you are free to go about your business with my blessing.”

"Thank you, my lord." The villagers rose, though they didn't quite go about their business. They mostly milled about and gawked at the strange beings surrounding the gate.

Janith considered using one of the gliders to go to the temple, but settled on not doing so – the walk wasn’t exactly a long one, and it would do his host a measure of good – as he walked, the goa’uld considered how best to inform this First Guardian that she and her people were now the property of Lord Atum. If the reaction in the village was anything to go by, it would be easy enough. However, priesthoods were often rather dedicated to the previous god, and caused problems for this sort of takeover. As he approached the temple, he smiled, noting its ziggurat-like design. It had been a while since he had seen one of those.

A number of priestesses step from the temple and kneel before the Underlord, all dressed in flowing white robes. After a few minutes have passed, a more stately Agdari in an ornate, gold-lined robe stepped from the temple, kneeling, though not lowering her eyes. "I am ever at the service of the gods." she says in Sumerian.

The woman stood, turning without a further comment and leading the Goa'uld through the temple. In truth, there was not much to it. Cells for the priestesses. Meditation gardens. A central worship area and altar. A state chamber, throne room, and sitting room for the First Guardian. An abandoned wing held more ancient and grander chambers clearly designed for the personal use of a Goa'uld and a retinue of Jaffa.

Eventually, Janith paused, began to walk back the way they had came, he observed the Agdari priestess carefully. “Now I shall explain why I am here. Your world now falls under the domain of the Great God Atum. It is his wish that you be informed to prepare for him to visit here in the near future…” His eyes flashed a soft, muted, white as he made his announcement.

He smiled, presuming that she meant him, “Of course, what aspects do you wish to discuss with me… and what is your name?” he asked, raising his eyebrow somewhat as he regarded the tall Agdari woman.

"My name is Satik, my lord. We need to discuss organizing the planet, preparing a proper place to receive our god, making the appropriate changes to the legal code...things of that nature."
Lord Atum
18-01-2005, 21:23
Legal code, how boring he thought, but necessery for governing them I suppose. He briefly wondered who would be appointed as underlord here. Alas, he'd not found them, that git Hemen had, so it'd probably go to him. "I see," Janith said, "well, as for place, it is rather likely that He will arrive through the stargate," he spared a glance in the direction of the gateway, "so I imagine that this temple and the village nearby would be ideal."

Meanwhile, Hemen was returning to the Tel'tak after a fruitless search, pleased to see that it was at least semi operational once more.

Satik nodded. "As for loyalty, I believe most of the planet will give their fealty willingly enough. However, I will need your help in communicating with them all. Our population is widespread and we do not have regular communication."

She paused, hesitating. "Forgive your humble servant her impertinence, my lord, but I am also interested to know what role myself and the Guardians shall play in the new order."

The captain returned to the bridge after her break.
"Captain," The Ensign replied "A lot has happened since you were away. A large power reading came from the surface, several ships of unknown classification have entered the system and ground team has reported arial units. No design we know of, but I'm guessing they're a threat."
"OK, equip the Aquilla fighters for patrol." She pushed the com button. "Sargeant, I want you to send a team to these co-ordinates." She downloaded the co-ordinates to the sargeant's Command Uplink Device.
"Rodger that ma'am." Replied Thomson and turned to Corporal MacMillan "Send three of your men in the chain gun warthog to the co-ordinates the Captain sent. Be on full alert."
MacMillan turned to Bravo team and pointed to three of his men "You three, in the 'hog."
The men climbed into the LRV and drove into the forest towards where the stargate was.

Janith frowned imperceptibly as he considered the logistics of it. Yes, communicating with the whole planet in a short time would be rather difficult. He was sure that something appropriate could be rigged up, but not how long it would take, and he said as much, coached in more reassuring language, “Yes, I am certain some appropriate means of spreading the word can be found.”

The other question came as no surprise. It was only natural that she would desire to continue to enjoy her current privileged position. “I imagine that Lord Atum will quite readily permit you to continue in your present function.”

Flashing back to the orbiting mothership, the other underlord, Hemen sat down once more, golden helmet retracting into his collar as though it had never been there. “My Lord,” said the other operator, “we are detecting increased activity from one of the interlopers.”

“I see,” he said, “contact Mnewer. Instruct them that we require reinforcements to be brought through the stargate.”

“My Lord?”

Hemen gave a look that brooked no compromise. He knew that the only major reason for increased activity would be an effort to seize the stargate. “Send down two more squads as well.”

The jaffa bowed, “Yes My Lord.”

Satik smiled broadly at that. "Then His Lordship's humble servant shall strive to her utmost to be worthy of the position and of His Lordship."

She paused a moment. "It feels good to tangibly serve the gods again, my lord. We have worshipped them from afar during their absence of course but...Forigve your humble servant. I am rather overwhelmed with joy by all this."

Janith nodded a little, “Of course,” he said, “that is only natural,” he turned a little, “in any case,” he said, “I should return through the stargate and make my report,” he said.

----

Meanwhile in the village, the stargate had activated again. Har'ek, cut a figure few could match. His heavily armoured form was designed to project the image of danger, and it did so quite well. He was a walking arsenal in many respects, he liked it that way, it lent him an air of danger in the eyes of many.

The lightweight weapons of the goa'uld found all sorts of places on his body, from a deceptively delicate looking ring weapon and a shak'nel – a miniature weapon used by some jaffa - on his hands, More accurately, the former was worn, the latter braced against the back of his wrist as many jaffa wore the zat'nik'tel, which he of course, also sported, hanging from his belt to the front of his thigh, within easy reach of his left hand. Even more worryingly, the seemingly endless amount of weapons stowed on the person of the jaffa commander even included a set of claws that covered the tips of each finger, and two viscious knives. Even by jaffa standards he was heavily muscled. From above a particularly poorly trimmed brown beard, dark eyes glinted intelligently.

Commander of one of Atum's most important projects, the constant exploration launched from Mnewer's stargate, aimed at constant expansion of his domains, Har'ek was an aggressive and ruthless commander, and far from incompetent. He was also the first of a significant force. He looked around, and walked over to the small gathering of Horus guards as more of his kind began to file out of the stargate.

The jeep carring the three marines sped towards the village where the Stargate was located; Jamerson, the squad leader at the wheel, dodging the trees in their way, Petter one of the few female marines on the Stormwind and one of the best at the mounted gun, and Kefner, the "greenhorn" private in the passenger seat.
"So!" Shouted Jamerson "What do you think would be contolling whatever made the energy signal, a beer for whoever is right, Petter?"
"I'm guessing the guys who came here first. How about you, sir?"
"Nah, it's one of the new guys. Kefner?" replied Jamerson
"I don't know sir, but I think we'd have to be careful. Intel says there's a village surrounding it."
"That's not a guess, don't you want a beer?...Nevermind we're getting close so we should go the rest of the way on foot."
Jamerson stopped the jeep.
"Ok, it's a hundred meter walk from here to the village, Kefner, you guard the jeep. Stay quiet and don't shoot until they start shooting at you." Said Jamerson and him and Petter got out and headed towards the village.

Outside the village, the jaffa patrols were growing in strength. The army of Lord Atum was large by almost any standard, over five million individuals.

It was also poorly trained, abominably equipped, lacking in tactical sophistication and dependant entirely on numbers and fanaticism to have any chance of a victory against a space-faring foe.

But it was still large, and Atum had ordered the area around the stargate to be heavily guarded. As such, there was a seemingly perpetually increasing number of jaffa in and around the village. Har’ek had ordered patrols to be set up, and one of these four soldier groups would likely be encountered at some point, covering all paths toward the village.

“A System Lord’s trappings must be huge, monumental, constant proof of their might. Their ships must be mighty, devastating, organised into fleets that can obliterate entire systems. Their homes must be powerful statements of their glory, huge statues, gilded engravings and frescos on the walls. They sit on intimidating thrones and surround themselves with large bodyguards, all to show that they are powerful beyond measure, rich beyond dreams, and mighty beyond reason.”

The home of Atum could definitely be described as a powerful statement of his glory. Towering over the primitive city below, the Palace of Mnewer was a colossal fortress-temple that dwarfed any religious structure ever built on Earth. Its shining limestone surface was dazzling if one looked at the sun reflected in it, and at its top were seemingly endless warrens of grand chambers built by the toil of countless slaves.

The overlord himself stood in a ring of white light on the floor, a standing console with a dozen crystalline buttons next to it. He extended a hand, almost in a salute, or a benediction. “I, am the Great God Atum,” he said, in Sumerian, “Your world now falls under my domain, and I command that you pay your homage to me and me alone…” this went on for some time, almost a minute in fact, with pauses for effect now and then. Eventually, he cut the power to the recording device, and set himself to editing…

Janith proceeded to dial the stargate, surrounded by an ever increasing number of jaffa (the first rule of goa'uld life seemed to be that the jaffa came in unlimited numbers) who regarded the Agdari priestess with interest. After a few moments he pressed the central cap of the dialing device, and the portal opened with a loud wooshing sound.

Then he fiddled about for a few more moments with the 'watch' he had been wearing earlier, until, having selected a six-character code from twelve digits, the central gem of the device glowed a dull green. Janith stepped up to the shimmering, water-like edge of he portal, and looked at Satik with a slight smile, before dissapearing through the 'water,' creating little ripples in its surface.

Satik mostly ignored the curious Jaffa, standing with a firm and proud demeanor. After all, they were tiny. So were the gods, of course, but they were gods and could assume whatever form they wished.

The woman smiled back at Janith before following him through the Stargate. She matched her naturally long strides to his, staying about three feet behind him and a handsbreadth to his right.
Lord Atum
14-02-2005, 19:08
The other side of the portal was much more impressive. A high chamber surrounded the stargate, almost twice the height of the stone ring. A dull red glow covered the walls of the chamber it was in, which were divided into numerous vertical sections, with thick blast doors of a silver plated metal withdrawn into the sides. At least thirty jaffa were covering the gate from behind the numerous force shields, using the two foot thick walls as cover. The walls were covered in numerous murals on their plaster covering, showing some of the battles, conquests, and discoveries that had been launched from this room. Doubtless, in a short enough time, something about her people would appear on those walls.

The force fields flashed off after several moments, and the jaffa filed around the room, most of them disappearing to a large barracks attached to the complex. Janith, giving the priestess a quick glance, stepped through one of the doors, and into a larger room beyond, with several pillars supporting its high roof. It was a mere half dozen yards into the next room, through a few areas intended for defence, complete with tripod mounted weapons and more blast doors. Janith gestured for her to step into a circle on the floor, and ordered her, rather curtly, to kneel.
Agdar
14-02-2005, 19:19
Satik followed him through the rooms, looking around quietly. She stepped into the circle as he ordered. She had no problem kneeling swiftly and obediently. He was her lord and kneeling before him was natural. Still, she was visibly perplexed about why she was being ordered to kneel here in the middle of the floor they were walking over.
Lord Atum
15-02-2005, 00:07
Janith pressed his hand to a panel on the wall, which turned green, and stepped back into the narrow circle. He pressed the stone on the back of the silver device he wore around his hand and wrist, and looked up. A circle of stones on the ceiling slid back, revealing a shining white light. A set of wide naquadah rings fell from the ceiling, surrounding both of them.

A blinding, disorientating flash encompassed both of them, and their surroundings changed. The rings passed into the floor, and Janith stepped away, “Follow,” he ordered, and began striding down the narrow causeway. The great bulk of the palace loomed ahead, casting a long shadow over the expansive city below. The rings were built onto a wide plinth, standing high from the city below like a sandstone stack sticking out from the sea, linked to the clifflike side of the palace by a long bridge, just wide enough for two men to walk abreast on, guarded by two menacing – though perhaps not to Satik – figures in black armour, with glowing blue eyes, who loomed at the end of the causeway on either side of a high arch.

Janith’s cloak was whipped about his wide frame by the wind high from the ground, and he walked slowly toward the guards, letting Satik take a long look around at the valley, one side of which seemed to be dominated by the great outcropping upon which the palace rested, the rest covered in urban sprawl, technologically unsophisticated, but planned by a superior intelligence, with a strong grasp of Urban Science, surrounding a wide river where the sails of numerous ships loaded with foodstuffs could be seen sailing in with the morning tide.

Jamerson and Petter reached the outskirts of the town just in time to see the Stargate activate and close again.
Jamerson radioed in to the base camp "Sir, I've reached the location of the energy signal. It seems to be a giant ring. Perhaps a transportation device, I just saw some people going into it and then shutting down."
Thomson replied "Good, any hostiles."
"Unknown, sir. The villagers look peaceful and it looks like the object is some kind of monument. There are other people, definately not one of the villagers. What do you suggest?"
There was a pause
"Get back to base, the captain is going to set up a diplomatic mission."
"Rodger sir."
The marines both ran back to the warthog to see Kefner sleeping in the passenger seat with his legs up on the dashboard.
"Wakey, wakey!" Shouted Jamerson. "We're going back, but before that we should all get some sleep"
"You woke me up to tell me to go back to sleep?"
"Yes, because you're first watchman."
Jamerson and Petter un-rolled their sleeping bags and fell asleep while Kefner was sitting in the passenger seat looking around the small clearing where jeep was parked.
"I should have never joined the marines." he said to himself.

There was a low rumble that echoed through the valley as one of the massive metal ‘peaks’ of the mountains rose vertically from the shaped pyramid that was the real peak. The massive goa’uld mother ship continued its Ascent as Janith led Satik inside, “Of course,” he said, wandering through the equally over-scaled atrium, its hanging linen banners and bright lights concealing golden walls covered in hieroglyphics. “The Lord’s throne room is this way,” he added, ducking behind one of them and into a slightly lower – though still high enough for her – corridor, its metallic walls clearly intended more for servants than for guests.

Lord Atum’s throneroom was a vast cathedral like space, with hundreds of incense burning trays on pedestals lining the walls, which, like the entrance hall’s, were lined with hieroglyphic inscriptions, in goa’uld, telling of the great power of Lord Atum. At one end, they started, telling of how he had created the universe from primordial chaos and anarchy, and told of his creation of the other gods, until at the end, the story stopped at the alcove off the main room where the throne lay. A short flight of a dozen steps lead up to the throne itself, (http://www.stargate-alliance.com/images/screenshots/Art2.jpg) which was currently unoccupied, but for two more black armoured guards on either side of it, below a banner with his symbol, a mound or a hill within a circle within a pair of bull’s horns upon it.

Janith took a brief look around, and concluded that the System Lord was not there. “Wait there,” he said, after a moment, pointing to the polished marble floor at the bottom of the steps, where the early morning sunlight streamed in from massive stained glass windows on both sides of the throne room, depicting great battles and acts of creation, all of questionable veracity.

Satik followed him to the foot of the stairs, pausing and waiting as he passed. "Yes, my lord." she responded swiftly.

Satik took a moment or two to take in the stories on the wall, eyes widening with interest. As a priestess, she was at least passingly familiar with such tales, though she had heard somewhat...different versions. After thoroughly taking in the room, Satik decided to get a head start on kneeling and fell to one knee before the throne, eyes lowered. One eye couldn't help but peek up expectanly from time to time, excited to be seeing a god.

Atum arrived after what seemed like hours, but was truly only minutes. Throughout all that time the Kull Warriors stood entirely immobile, but for their heads, which occasionally looked this way or that. He appeared as a mansize figure, tall, as tall as the warriors with him, in an all-encompassing black robe trimmed with royal purple, that seemed worn with age, over another, dark red robe. He wore suade gloves that covered his hands, and where his face would be was only a rippling darkness. If one suitably versed in goa’uld were to examine the walls, he would be described as a God of Light and Darkness, who shrouded himself in secrecy.

Another title which he had appropriated for himself was The Hidden One, the ancient title of Amun, and this he lived up to, seeming to have appeared from nowhere before the throne, in which he promptly sat, regarding his latest acquisition. “Come,” he ordered, his voice sounding unnaturally deep, but not with the same reverberating tone of lesser goa’uld.

At the command, Satik rose, eyes still lowered deferentially. She approached the throne and kneeled again immediately before it. "Your servant hears and obeys, my lord." was her only spoken response as she awaited his will.

"I swear my undying loyalty and the undying loyalty of my people onto you, our one and only god, thy will be done on Agdar is it is in the heavens." He seemed satisfied,
"Good. I sense you have questions you wish to ask of me," he said. Admittedly this hardly required supernatural abilities to guess...
"I wish to know what my god requires of me and my people beyond the loyalty of our hearts."
He leaned forward a little, "What do you offer?" he asked.
"We would give whatever our god required." she said as a disclaimer in case he found her initial offers displeasing. "However, I feel that what we could best offer is the martial service of our young women."
"I do not require martial service at present," he said, "But I shall bear it in mind, and consider ordering appropriate training..."
Satik frowned thoughtfully, not knowing of anything else she has to give. "What do you require, my lord?"
"The loyalty of your hearts is enough for now," he said.
"As my god commands."
"Do you have more questions?"
"No, my lord."

"I see," he said, "describe your people for me."
"We are a race of warriors, holding honor and loyalty dear to our hearts."
"Excellent."
"We are a matriarchal people, subsisting mostly on hunting and farming."

"Yes," he said, "I want your opinions on the matter of potential divisions among your people, especially those that could be caused by my return."
She paused, considering. "I do not see anyone...or at least any significant number, resisting the return of the gods on principle. There are some who might impiously resist certain commands. Repetitive manual labor, for example, is rather unpopular. I could and would enforce it if ordered but it would be likely to engender some resistance."

"I do not see a need for that. For such tasks as require it I have humans. I do not expect my warriors to undetake such menial duties."
"So long as my people can live as warriors, they will obey their god. Of course, individually there might be the occasional blasphemer or traitor but I can assure my lord that your humble servant is more than capable of...dealing....with such people as they deserve without my lord ever needing to be disturbed."
"Yes. I should hope so. If heretics ever become a problem worthy of my attnetion, I will be most wrathful in dealing with them.
Satik remained respectfully silent, having nothing to add to her god's 'just' declaration.

Lord Atum stood, and stepped around her, "Follow," he said. Satik rose and moved to follow.

Lord Atum seemed to have far less self-conciousness in being followed by a nine foot tall woman than Janith had. That said, as he claims to have created them, it would hardly be fitting to show such nervousness. Satik just followed calmly and quietly.

Atum leads her out onto a wide balcony, overlooking the ring platform she arrived on, and the valley. "You found this view beautiful..." he said. Satik just nodded, since it wasn't a question.

"You will remain here for the rest of the day. I will have Janith find you a room with a view of the city," he said.

"My lord, may I say something?"
"You may speak freely."
"I cannot truly find the words to express it and I know that, as a god, you already know but...the joy and love we feel at your return..." she trailed off, her breath catching in her throat with emotion.
"It is to be expected..." he said, leaning forward, "your people have been alone for a long time... Too long. The lesser 'gods' are becoming most remiss in their duties of late." Satik just beamed adoringly at him.

"You should trust them only in so far as they are my servants. I have had to punish an increasing number of them for disloyalty of late."
"I hear and obey."
"Good," he said, "I shall see you again this evening and we shall return to your world." Satik bowed again.

He turned to leave, rather annoyed that he wasn't able to give a reassuring smile. He waved a hand at Janith, and pointed him over to Satik, "See to her comfort," he said, taking malicious delight in the humiliation that flickered across the obsequious underling's features, knowing that he'd used the Agdari's language to give him that order, and probably within her earshot.
Satik gave no visible response as Atum stepped off into the corridor, disappearing again, and Janith stepped forward, and, hesitatingly, gave a very slight bow.
Satik flushed purple and returned it.
"This way," he said, turning sharply on his heel and leading off down a different corridor, past several horus guards. Satik walked after him calmly, not doing anything to rub it in.
Lord Atum
16-02-2005, 19:15
Satik followed Janith through the corridors. Eventually, Janith led her up several large flights of marble stairs, which she could probably bound up three at a time, and into another wide corridor that terminated in a large suite of 'guest quarters' appointed with all manner of hangings, golden lattices over silver walls, and incense burners.

Satik looked around her quarters with a more than satisfied smile. "Thank you, my lord." The goa'uld underling glared at her, unsure if it was sarcasm, "If you want anything, ring the bell," he gestured to a brass bell on a table in the centre of the reception room, "and someone will attend to your desires."

"Thank you, my lord."

He made his way out, muttering something about the indignity of it, leaving Satik in her rooms. One of the things she would be most frustrated by, would be the lack of appropriate furniture - it was intended as a lesson in why the goa'uld were generally 'human.' Satik tried to sit down, then tried to lie down in her bed, sighing heavily as she looked around the room.

Fortunately, the bedroom included a rather large bed, intended for two, or more, humans, so she could lie on it relatively comfortably. There was also a small bathroom, and a wide balcony overlooking the city.

Satik tried the bathroom rather frustratingly as well, muttering.

While she was unaware of the exact method, Atum was indeed monitoring her, and made a brief note to have appropriate furniture made. Satik searched the room for any reading materials, those at least, weren't hard to come by. Given the size of most goa'uld egos, such inscriptions to their glory were everywhere. As well as which, there was a small tablet about six inches square, and a page turning device that changed the text 'embossed' on its surface when waved over it.

Satik sat on the floor and spent some time reading about Atum's glory. After a few hours, Janith reappeared. Satik rose and bowed and the smarmy underling bowed back, and promptly sat down in one of the grander chairs.

Satik sat back down on the floor
"So," he said, "what do you think?"
"He is my god. He has my unconditional loyalty, love, and service."
"And the rest of us?"
"Are my lords and have my obedience so long as you serve the god."
"Good," Janith said, "I'm sure he'll be pleased..."

Satik inclined her head.
"I have been sent to fetch you, we had best be going," he said.
Satik rose, following him.
"Incidentally, what do your people consider fine food?"
"Turtle stew, seasoned properly." Janith said nothing, trying to recall quite what a turtle was, and walked back the way they had come last time. The throne room was livlier this time, with a practical crowd of goa'uld courtiers in outfits of competing complexity and grandeur. All eyes were on Janith and Satik as they arrived, and though the room's level of noise dropped, there was much conversation on Janith's recent humiliation, ranging from barely concealed glee to curiosity.

Satik stood quietly, not speaking to her betters unless spoken to. After a few minutes, where the throne had been before, another set of the ubiquitous transporter rings descended from the high roof and both the 'God' and his throne appeared.

As one, most of the crowd turned and bowed toward the throne, and Satik bowed swiftly and low.

For the next two hours or so, everyone effectively ignored her. The numerous goa'uld approached the throne one by one, or in couples, kneeled, and held brief conversations with their Lord, usually requests for this or that, or offerings of some form of tribute. Occasionally, he seemed offended, and they offered laboured and terrified apologies. Finally, he pointed toward Satik and beckoned her over, much to the obvious annoyance of those who hadn't gotten their audience.

Satik approached, kneeling before the throne. He looked over her head at the assembled courtiers, "I am now departing for this one's world, until my return, you are to follow all orders of Lord Thoth," there were slight murmurings, "as if they were my own." After that, he looked down at Satik, and stood, ordering her to follow him.

Satik rose, following her god and looking rigidly forward to avoid the resentment and disdain of the other Goa'uld. He lead her into another room, with another set of rings, "You did very well," he said, "I am pleased..."

"I simply stood there, my lord."
"Yes," he said, "Kneel,” and Satik knelt.

He had nonetheless been pleased by the reaction a large portion of them had at being snubbed in her favour. Even though she didn't know it, she had played her part quite well in the gesture of contempt. He patted he slightly on the head, not very used to such things, as they were, again, transported, this time all the way into orbit of the planet.
Satik smiled brightly, looking up adoringly at him and leaning into the patting slightly.

He walked off, and ordered her to follow. Satik stood and followed. It was a very short walk onto the control room of the ship, and Atum sat down in a replica of the throne from the palace, and spent the next few moments giving orders to and asking questions of a jaffa technician, almost dismissively gesturing with one hand for her to kneel again by the throne.

Satik knelt beside the throne in silence and after a few moments, the wide window, from which the green and blue surface of Menwer was visible changed with a brilliant flash, and outside there seemed to be only a blue and white tunnel, through which they were passing rapidly. He turned his attention to the priestess again, and asked if she was hungry.

"Yes, my lord." she answered, looking up.

Meanwhile, on Agdar, the stargate activated once more. This time however, it was not to transport people, but vehicles. One of the ‘godly chariots’ flashed through the portal, then another, then a third, and finally a fourth. The entire ‘gate-glider’ compliment of the Mnewer stargate complex was there, dividing up and going north, south, east and west, in search of settlements, bearing the news of their ‘god’s’ arrival.

The gliders screamed over the marines by the warthog. "Holy crap!" shouted Kefner as she jumped awake.
"Well," said Jamerson, who was on watch, looked at the time "we'd better head back, we've had enough sleep and I'd like to have breakfast at the camp instead of rations."
The squad rolled up the sleeping bags and put them into the jeep's boot and started to drive back to the camp.

Back on the ship the captain was still awake. "Lieutenant Rayne, have you got her out of the databanks?"
"No ma'am, the hasty installation lodged her in much deeper than we guessed. Wait a minuite...That should do it"
A 2 foot high holographic image of a woman appeared on a pedistal next to the Captain. She was dark haired, fair skinned and 'dressed' in normal clothes.
"I didn't think I'd get out of there. Thank you, lieutenant."
"No problem, Rachel." replied Rayne on the Com.

The captain turned to the hologram "Rachel. I have a mission-"
"-I know, diplomacy with the new race we've found. This is very menial task for a ship's AI, what happens if I'm captured and you get in a battle?"
"That won't happen, you're going to be transmitted. If there's any danger you can transmit back."
"Why can't you do it? Diplomacy IS a captain's job."
"The thing is, is that I'm not sure I can trust anyone other than our own men on this planet. That's why I'm going to send you, you're a much better diplomat than me and you're much safer."
"Ok then."
"Good, the reciever is going to be transported on the next pelican with some of our shock troopers. They speak a different language to ours so your translation subroutenes will hadle that."

It had been too long, the stargate program was back in action, and the new base was up and running, exploration could now be conducted like it had been so long ago. The coordinates were punched into the dialing AI, who projected the planets position. The group of 6, designated, SST-1, walked through the newly opened portal.
Master Dragoon Splinterpike walked through, he was the leader, and his strong sence of honor, compelled him to go first.

OOC: If ya want to RP with me, just RP your mens reactions to mine coming through the gate.

Siesatia is composed of 3 races, Human, Raptor, and Burmecian. THe leader is a Burmecian.

Burmecian (Homomus burmecien)- Burmecians are a rat like people who lived on the Mist Continent. They were there before the humans emigrated from the Forgotten Continent. Burmecians are an incredibly agile race, and prefer to be lightly armored and have their speed, than heavily armored and encumbered. They posses an advanced ability to jump, some up to a mile high, and many use this advantage in battle to their fullest extent. Polite and reserved, they are normally a fountain of good advice, and will not hesitate to take charge of any situation. The Burmecians form 100% of the Dragon Knight Corps.

Over one of the larger of the numerous Agdari villages, as far away from the stargate as could be found a ‘gate-glider’ settled over the largest clearing between the buildings it could find, such a common land, or gathering area, especially anything appropriately religious. The logic for choosing villages and the occasional town remote from the stargate was simple. As word spread, it would spread from each location, meaning that the time taken to reach saturation would be minimal.

From its underside, a beam of golden light flew, spreading out to become an image that seemed composed of light or air, a hologram of Atum. Rather than the black cloak he most often wore, he wore a variant of the silver and golden robes that his once (long ago) Master, Ra, had worn.

“I, am the Great God Atum,” he said, in Sumerian, “Your world now falls under my domain, and I command that you pay your homage to me and me alone. Your leaders are to swear loyalty to me at the stargate in two of your days, and until that time, and thereafter, you are to obey them as you have until this day. I expect absolute loyalty and obedience from you my people, and in return you shall have love and surety from me.”

After the end of the speech, the apparition dissolved into a thousand spheres of golden light, which rained down into the ground, disappearing as they did so.

----

Meanwhile, aboard Atum’s ship, having finally managed to get the System Lord away from ‘that infuriating mortal,’ Janith approached Atum, and bowed deeply. “My Lord,” he said, “may I be so bold to make a suggestion?”

The System Lord stopped in the middle of the wide corridor and held up a hand to stop his two guards. “Speak,” he commanded.

Janith smiled, “I have been thinking of the Agdari priestess My Lord,” he said, “Perhaps it would help keep good order on that world if you were to make her a Host.”

The System Lord paused and seemed, to Janith’s delight, to be thinking the proposal over. His words however, were disappointing, “You are more foolish than I thought,” he said. “Why would I want to replace a loyal and honest worshipper with another fawning, spineless dilettante like yourself?” He waved to the guards. “Beat some sense into this object.”

They darted forward, and seized Janith by the wrists, dragging him back against a wall as Atum started off again, before pinning him there and proceeding to rain hammer-like blows on him.

“Pathetic,” Atum muttered as he strode away.

In the camp the squad returned and the dropship carrying the transmitter, 4 shock troopers and a small ground transport, for six people, arrived. The leader, with a distinctive three yellow stripes on his dull grey uniform approached Sargeant Thomson and salluted him.
"Corporal Funtz." Said Thomson and returned the salute. "You can rest up here until you're ready to go."
"Yes, sir." Funtz replied and looked back to his soldiers who were checking their weapons "But I think we're all ready."
"That all depends, is Rachel ready?"
"Yes, I am Sargeant." answered Rachel on the Com.
"Good, now get movin'."
"Thank you Sargeant." He turned back to his men again. "Dubbo, you got the transmitter?"
"Yes, sir" Dubbo replied
"Ok, Fenicks, you're driving, Shive, in the back with me"
Fenicks got behind the wheel while the others got in the back.

In orbit of Agdar, something else at last appeared, a large vessel, like the vessel that had arrived days ago, the Citadel Ship of Atum was dark hulled, with numerous windows of varied sizes on its side, and armour plates. It was radially symmetric too, but unlike the smaller Ha’taks, which could only be turned to produce mirror images of themselves three times, this vessel could be turned eight times. And in each of its alcoves, securely bolted to their mother ship, were eight more ha’taks.

As the vast vessel came to a relative stop with the planet below, and the escort ships began to disengage from the carrier vessel, and took up position in a wide ring around the flagship. In a small room aboard that acted at the System Lord’s sanctum, he seemed satisfied at last.

It had been infuriatingly difficult, but eventually the problem had resolved itself. Do anything a goa’uld could do. While shape changing didn’t fall under that, he’d finally managed to persuade the Authorities, how he hated them, that skin changing did. Thus, he’d successfully altered his form to one more suitable to his new subjects. He stood, placing the artefact that he wore as a mask back upon his face, and draped a new set of silver robes over his shoulders.

Now to see if those reprobates have finished the new throne, he thought to himself, waving a hand over the panel that controlled the door, walking away to find his latest ‘little plaything’ before the landed.

Satik was lying idly in the four beds pressed togehter that formed her bed. She was dressed lightly in white nightgown and seemed rather casual and relaxed. She hadn't had much to do during the long voyage and had fallen into a rather lackadaisacal mood. When Atum entered, she rose swiftly and then fell to one knee, bowing her head. "My lord..."

Offhand, I’m not sure where your IC post was going, but either way, you’re liable to get shot through of holes on the other side of the gate, either just shot on Agdar, or smashed against an iris type affair on Mnewer, and shot if you somehow get through that…

There’s a reason why the SGC uses MALPs.

Eventually, the group from Adrogantia met three curious figures just outside the village The first was a tall ‘black’ man, wearing a white linen kilt, and something similar that hung from his shoulders, leaving his midriff exposed. The most startling thing about his appearance however, was that where his head should be, was only a metallic headdress, worn by what appeared to be the head of a Sacred Ibis.

The Ibis head turned to look at the newcomers with piercing blue eyes, and said something, its beak closed, in an alien language. The guard brought up a staff he was holding, and pressed a button about a quarter of the way up, causing the flared end of the staff to split into quarters, and crackle with fire

The second figure, a human by all appearances, dressed in extremely antiquated looking armour, with a tattoo on his forehead did the same, and a third, scholarly figure, dressed in a lightweight but practical silvery outfit, looked up, apparently unarmed, seemingly surprised by these interlopers. He put a handheld computer device into his pocket, and raised an eyebrow inquisitively.

Funtz looked up at the headress the man was wearing and down to the staff, all the men, except Dubbo, raised their hands. "Rachel?" Funtz said, very intimidated. Her holo-image appeared above the transmitter Dubbo was carrying.
"He's asking us why we're here."
"How did you know that?"
"The language is a resemblance to some ancient Earth cultures."
"Then answer him!"
Rachel turned to the soldier and, in a poorly translated language of the soldier, told him they were here on a peaceful mission. The men still had their arms raised.

Satik was kneeling in her nightgown. Atum looked her up and down for a moment, "We have arrived, and will be landing shortly."

Satik nodded. "Yes, my lord. I should change."

He nodded, "Do s.," he said. It didn't really occur to him to leave the room, being a so-called god didn't help one's respect for the privacy of others.

Satik waited a moment. "Ummm...my lord?" He let out a curious little noise, and after a moment seemed to figure out what she wanted, and left, rather bemused. Satik stepped into the hall after a few moments, now dressed in flowing white robes. She bowed again to Atum.

"I expect you to arrange for the leaders of the settlements around the stargate to personally pledge themselves to me in the same way you have tomorrow," he said, walking off down the corridor, expecting her to follow.

"Of course, my lord." She walked behind him, keeping a respectful distance.

"Additionally," he said, "you will make today a festival in future."

"As you command, my lord."

Around the stargate several goa'uld had set up their base of operations. As a group the goa'uld underlings were responsible for the day-to-day management of the empire. In this case, they were discussing long term plans for making their Lord's and thus their own, stay as comfortable as possible. "Obviously," one of them said, sitting on an antique wooden camp chair. The goa'uld formed the nobility in many ways, and typically enough of imperialist bureaucrats everywhere, these goa'uld were not to be without their comforts, even on a new planet, and this was the reason for the large number of servants hanging around, demurely presenting refreshments and drinks, taking minutes, and other such trivialities. One could easily call them slaves without being at all inaccurate, however ‘serfs’ would perhaps be a better definition.

“Obviously we could set up such a system. But it will take almost a year, and we’ll have to pay out almost two hundred billion shekels.” While Lord Atum could, and often did, demand labour for nothing, the system of providing the peasants with remuneration for their work had existed for several decades now. It was not to be confused with fair treatment - the system lord had simply decided that it was more efficient, and so proclaimed that it would be required of his underlords.

“That is a large slice of the budget,” said a second goa’uld, plucking a fluted glass of some form of crushed fruit juice from a tray held by one of the servants, “and we would be best to run it before Him.”

“I agree. However, I have little doubt,” the first said, “that he’ll approve. It would spare him some ships on garrisoning this place.”

The underling with the two guards seemed satisfied for now, and looked the group up and down, “Who are you?” he demanded imperiously, “and why are you here?”

"Captain" buzzed on the com, it was the medical officer.
"Yes?" she replied
"He's finally awake."
"Good, I'll be down in a moment" She got out of her chair and walked quickly to the medical bay. In it was the ship's doctor, Jason Hewes and the science officer, an Aesiran called Yerzil, sitting on the medical bed. Yerzil got off the bed and onto his digitigrade legs, standing 2 meters tall and greyish blue with no nose or visible mouth he was the only Aesiran on the ship and stood out well.
"Sorry, captain" he 'said' telepathicly to everyone in the area. "This was my first time in cyogenicly enhanced sleep."
"No need. I'm just glad you're awake. You can spend as long as you want being briefed on what's happened, but be in the bridge as soon as you're done."

Atum stalked silently along the vessel's corridors, thinking, of the many uses he could have for such a large population. It was the goa'uld way to only think of others in terms of how they would benefit one's self. For this, Atum could not truly be critisised. The curse of genetic memory is that an individual inherits, flawlessly, the prejudices and opinions of their forebears. Thousands of years of vanity and petty ambition are hard to shake.

"Tell me," he said at last, as much for somethign to say to Satik as for general curiosity, "more about the martial tradition of your people."

The goa'uld underling viewed the refusal of the Adrogantians as a personal affront, "Have you no answer?" He demanded, his voice becoming dangerous, reverberant as he said so, his eyes glowing with an unnatural phosphourescance.
