An Adventure on the Edge of War

The Resurgent Dream

The trod was well advertised. People from all over the world were being allowed into the dreaming for the first time in history. A bed and breakfast in a nearby small town offered the tourists accomadations prior to their trip. The countrysider was quiet, rolling hills with scattered farms on their grassy surface. It was mostly sheep country.

At the trod itself, a boggan in brown trousers, white shirt, and red vest sold small gold necklaces that enchanted the visitors so that they could enter the dreaming. The price was high as befits the tourist industry everwhere. Still, service always came with a pleasant smile and kindly words of advice.

Fetid Fens

D' Neicthlbel was disinterestedly looking at the wall map of the Great Swamp of Fetid Fens. The map showed events and important people moving about in the thirteen million acre swamp. It was a creation of D' Neicthlbel's teacher almost eight hundred years ago. D' Neicthlbel used it to feel the pulse of the heart of Fetid Fens, the central focus of magic.

Since the Great Seal had cracked, technology was creeping into the swamp. The swamp itself fought back and usually won. The chains on chainsaws broke for no reason, the gasoline exploded, laser saws didn't do much better, the beam would bounce off the moisture in the tree and usually sever some part of the operator.

To D' Neicthlbel's eye things were normal almost boring. He needed a vacation. On one of his trips to The Technical Side he read something about an opening to the dreaming in a land called The Resurgent Dream. He would make a journey there. Perhaps this old Illusionist could find adventure in a new land. As his teacher had told him many years ago "If I tie you up with a rope that is an illusion, you know it is an illusion yet you can't break free -- Is it an illusion at all?"
