A fistful of Iron [ATTN: Menelmacar]
The Allanean Arms cargo haulers entered Sol, hauling behind them a rock of insane size - about a mile wide, actualy. That rock was a nickel-iron asteroid harvested in New-Montana, and rumour had it there were Menelmacari businessmen ready to purchase.
Either way, the captain of the main tower grinned happily in anticipation of the sheer amount of money he was about to get paid. While, of course, Allanean Arms would only pay him about half a percent of the value of the asteroid, it wolud be enough, at this size, that he would be able to buy a swath of land in Nova-Texas and spend the rest of his life hunting deer.
Prairie dogs, actually. Praire dogs where Captain Rock's main passion, but it was hard for him to afford the expensive rifles and precision made ammunition that this sport required. But that, thought Rock, was about to change. He smiled blissfully and waited for his Menelmacari contact.

About a quarter million kilometers distant, a Federation Space Battle Group, nine ships, watched the Allaneans on sensors, as the ships' crews laughed in their beers. Those not on duty, of course.

Tracking Station Charlie was one of the four facilities on Charon designed to track and keep an eye on entering vessels through likely vectors. Of course even something a mile wide..coming in on an unconventional route would have been picked up by one of the many tracking probes set up along the outer edges of the system ages ago.Nearly several decades old many of the tracking posts malfunctioned on occassion and required repairs. So when this object began to show up on scanners the response was less than shock. More like annoyance.
"Tracking Post 577 is reporting a massive object coming into the system..."
"577? Didnt we just repair that?" The officer on the watch gave an annoyed grunt as he checked over his reports on the clipboard and shook his head. "Yeah it was just repaired..those idiots probably forgot to recalibrate the thing to not pick up on space dust..."
"Shall I dispatch the recon units?" The executive officer on duty asked as he stood next to the control panel to signal a recon alert. The officer on watch just sighed and shook his head before looking forward toward the information screen. "No, the Cruiser Georgetown is in the area..tell them to go check out the post and fix it. Should be nothing but a routine assignment for them.
On the bridge of the Georgetown Captain Jinkins sipped coffee quietly and watched as the new reports came up on the screen just to the left of his command chair. As he scrolled through the reports the message flashed at the bottom of the screen. "God damnit...dont those screwballs have folks to fix those things..this is a warship, not a Maytag Repair Van."
"Sir? The XO moved from the weapons station and looked over the shoulder of the captain down toward the HUD screen. Captain Jinkins stood up and walked over toward the viewscreen of the warship. After some adjustment the cameras fixed themselves into position and zoomed in..Relay Post 577 wasnt wrong afterall and it picked up a legitimate target.
"Oh christ..always on my tours..Comm Ops, contact the Columbia..give them our status report. Helm, bring us about..we're going to investigate this closely." The cruiser moved from its current course and picked up speed putting itself on a direct intercept course with the transport and the rock. "XO, sound General Quarters." The lights inside of the cruiser dimmed slightly as the weapons systems drained power from them. Emergency lighting came on but the hallways were still dim as crew moved. Over the ships internal intercom came what everyone knew already. "All hands general quarters, I say again, all hands general quarters." a kaxalon blarred twice and then the standard alarm let out a scream for several more seconds. They'd catch up with the Allanean vessel in no time.

Near the asteroid sprouted the crimson bloom of a Menelmacari tesseract, from which a large vessel emerged, marked with FHG corporate colors. It was a Vingilot freighter, though this particular ship had upgraded gravitic tractors, for hauling large...objects.
Objects like metallic asteroids.
The freighter scarcely slowed, and exchanged no communications whatsoever with the Allanean ship, but almost delicately plucked the asteroid from the void with its tractors as it passed. The ship was indeed the vessel the Allaneans were to meet with, as even a cursory scan would inform them. Another tesseract opened, this one larger than before to encompass the asteroid along with the vast freighter, and a moment later it snapped shut behind ship and rock, leaving the Allaneans alone on the frontier.
Captain Rock smiled gleefully. "Yeee-haw! Folks, we did it! We closed the contract of our lives!"
"No, Cap'n," replied the Chief Engineer. "You did."
And it was true. While every crew member aboard the haulers grew significantly richer today - Allanean Arms gave them all a fraction of the cost of the gigantic asteroird, only the captains where now rich enough to retire and live well. Perhaps, in a few such journeys, the sailors would be rich enough, too...
But Captain Rock wouldn't be accompanying them. He'd be with his prairie dogs in Nova-Texas.

"Contact friendly...they've taken the rock..." The communications officer looked up from his console and back toward the Captain.
"Who's the other contact belong to?"
"Registry...Allanea Arms..."
"Well now....lock forward battery onto the transport. Nations who have no buisness being out in space..I really want tp know who gave them space capacity in the first place..Weps, you may fire when ready." The Weps pushed up on the safety covers of the anti capital ship missile tubes. Pressing down onto the buttons the tubes were cleared and soon a barrage of nine missiles was unleashed upon the transport without any warning.
The entire affair was being monitored by Tracking Station Charile on Pluto's Moon of Charon and other ships of the Charon Defense Fleet were being vectored toward the scene of the incident, including the Flagship Columbia. The captain watched the viewscreen intently as the missiles raced toward their target. He didnt want to risk those missiles being his only attack and thus he walked over toward the weapons station and leaned against it. "Weps, clear the dorsal and ventral guns. Target the bridge, lets knock them out."
It took a mere handful of seconds for the turrets to swing into place and the barrels to elevate to their requested position. After several more seconds the crew of the Allanean transport would see silent flashes emitted from the tubes of the heavy rail guns as they fired their massive projectiles toward where the FSN Weapons Officer thought the bridge of the transport to be. Generally this kind of response was considered overkill but few in the Federal Military had any real compassion for the Allaneans.
OOC: That was mean. And with Weyreans jumpy due to two over inflated nations trying to wipe the floor with their alliance, discharging weapons on a 'friendly' vessel is.....not smart..."
The Sol fleet was named so because it was permanently stuck in Sol. Only the fleet's flagship, the WSGS Bombard, a Storm-class dreadnaught, had the ability to leave the system. On other ships, the space vacated by the translation drives and firien cells was used for additional weapons systems.
The small battle between Imperial and Rebel forces on the outskirts of the system had Admiral; Fara Iro Storm dispatch a Star Destroyer, to watch the proceedings.
*****
"Weapons fire detected at 9.188, 4.112," tactical whispered aboard the WSGS Bloom.
The Star Destroyer was sitting in space, away from major space lanes and several million kilometers from the battle it was observing. The new weapons fire was nine million kilometers away. With weapons powered down, the Star Destroyer seemed to pose no real threat. Besides, Weyr was not currently at war against anyone.
"Origin?" captain Alexander Storm asked.
"Federal starcraft firing on Allanean freighter," the response came, after the few seconds it took to verify the drive signatures of both craft. "More Federal craft are converging on vector."
"Let's check it out. Target vectors.....forward deflectors at full, find out what the hell's going on," Storm commanded. He held off on charging weapons or using active scanners – he did not want to provoke anyone. A freighter being fired on by an entire fleet -- an interesting occurance.
The one-point-six kilometer wedge that was the WSGS Bloom turned around, drives flaring a brilliant azure. It would take several minutes for the vessel to come within weapons range, and in the meanwhile a polite inquiry was sent to both craft asking as to what was going on.

OOC: I'm assuming that Star Destroyer is a typo, too.
Nope. Always have a Star Destroyer parked in the Sol system. Always did, always will. Weyr got conquered by the Empire, so now Weyr steals their technology and manufactures Star Destroyers, save that Weyrean ones don't have all their vital systems in the most vulnerable part of the ship. What? It's not like I'm claiming a dozen of them or something (that's reserved for II) Besides, Weyr has invested a few hundred billion USD into Allanea and doesn't want to see all that cash go down the drain.

OOC: You havent seen mean. And only one ship fired.
IC:
The SBBNs Columbia and Resolute were the first warships on the scene. The Columbia was the Charon Defense Fleet's flagship and the Resolute her typical escort. The Cruiser Georgetown remained in its spot as the unknown vessel began to approach the scene. Weapons were kept at the ready and new missiles were automatically reloaded into the ACS tubes. Admiral Towne had been briefed as he took the bridge of the Columbia and was uncertain as to the intent of the unknown approaching warship. He wasnt however pleased with snoopers in area and god help them if they were here to pick a fight.
The next ships on the scene were from the Independent Cruiser Squadrons. Five of the most advanced warships in the system, they mixed Federal Technology with Menelmacari Technology to produce sleak black cruisers. They kept their weapons systems offline and their scanners were at a bare minimum. If anything the ACS was more like an Internal Police Force amongst the regular military units than regular combat forces. As such their ships were tailored with a variety of sensors and jammers and this made up for a rather moderate armorment for a ship designated as a Cruiser. The weapons howere which were packed on the five Imperator class cruisers were also a mix of Menelmacari and Human weapons. Anti-Capital Ship Missiles mixed with Plasma Cannons gave the ships respectable armorments.
Other ships were on their way but the majority of the CDF remained located around Charon's orbiting End Point fleet supply base.
"This is Admiral Lance Towne, of the Federal Stellar Navy Battleship to unknown vessel state your intent." Towne wasnt in the mood to play games at the moment. Scattered reports from Mars were beginning to reach the rim and at the fleet at Charon was taking on last minute supplies to move back toward Mars. Even troops on the surface of Charon were being picked up and being readied for transit back to the inward reaches of the Sol system.

I wonder if i should get invloved ... i have an outpost in sol..
OOC: I know. One ship fired, but you dispatched more ships into the area. I'm not really looking to pick a fight, but I figured I need to boost my relations with Allanea and my shiny Sol fleet was just sitting there doing nothing useful. I'll wait for Allanea to respond before posting anything more than the comm. It should take at least fifteen RP minutes for my ISD to close so that it can fire its main turbolasers, although its missile batteries have a longer range. No active scanners, and its drives are firing in a clear decceleration pattern.
"This is Weyrean Star Guard Ship Bloom, Star Cruiser class, classification: Assault Intercept Missile heavy Turbolaser Parasite Platform No.81F. We were in the area, and wondering why you're firing on an unarmed freighter," Storm sent back. "Take us to one million and stop," he commanded. "No acceleration. Don't provike them."
One million kilometers was the standard pre-engagement distance for a Weyrean capitol craft, where it could begin firing hyperfusion missiles. Storm had no intention of engaging anyone, but that did not mean he would not be cautious. Drives began firing, slowly deccelerating the massive warship.
Then...something happened.
http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=375363
And the captain of the WSGS Bloom forgot why he was there. Somewhere in the depths of The Tower, a pair of cyclers spun up, then slowed, adjusting their recording of etherSpace, and a few lines in the Book of Shadows were erased.
"Er....sorry to bother you," captain Storm sent. "We'll be on our way. May I ask if you'll need help in wherever those troops are going?" he asked good-naturaly.

Admiral Towne rolled his eyes as the question was asked. Somehow he knew it would have been asked. Moving from one spot on the bridge to another he pondered just leaving them listening to static. That was infact exactly what he was going to do. Using heavily encrypted short range ship to ship communications each vessel was given a set of orders and after several moments the ships began to move off. The Battleships Resolute and Columbia heading back toward Charon with the Georgetown bringing up the rear in an escort formation. The five Imperator Cruisers remained though in the area. All there was, was silence.
One of the Imperator class Cruisers moved toward the wreckage of the merchant vessel. They were going to begin a salvage operation of the hulk.
'Guess not," Storm shrugged. There was a sense of...losss. As though something had disappeared. People said that Weyreans were tied to the etherSpace more closely than most other sentient beings. Perhaps that was true. He shrugged, gave the orders to resume monitoring station. The vessel turned, presenting its broadside to the opposition fleet, before all that could be seen were its many azure drives flaring to life.
Captain Rock shrugged as the ships CIWS easily took down the NYNJ missiles. With a swift movement of the hand, he pushed a red button to summon aid. "Maybe I'll be going back to my prairie dogs, anyhow.." pondered Captain Rock. His companions where not so lucky. On his rear view screens, he saw one of the other haulers become a cloud of glowing smoke.
“Oh crap…” thought Captain James Rock Then he simply prayed. “Oh Lord, let the fleet come fast… pleasepleaseplease…” And the fleet came. Eventually. By the time it came, Captain Rock would never see any prairie dogs - at all.
Behind the NYNJ vessels, an enormous Allanean force emerged – four battlegroups. Eighty vessels in total.

OOC: You know Allanea, I am not surprised that you dont even realise that half of the Nationstates world will not even roleplay a mile within you. Considering that you never seem to learn and understand the general rules of thumb, let me at least point out this, perhaps minor, yet very annoying incident. New York and New Jersey posted a very reasonable attack, and whilst you have learned that you CAN take losses, you dont even seem to notice the very fact that you WANKED an entire fleet into existance. I could understand if you actually roleplayed the fact, but do you not realise that it cannot just appear as your post denotes. I could be just hearing things myself, but all I read from your posts is; FAP, FAP, FAP.
And you wonder why half the world fails to recognise your very existance. Anyhow, continue on. I have finished my rant.

OOC:
Let me be reasonable here..no CIWS is going to have a 100% success rate against missiles. Especially a CIWS mounted on a hauler. Thats just not likely. Especially since these are missiles designed to circumvent the defenses of warships and avoid the ECM and cause the CIWS to miss. Them you do realize right that CIWS's work on method of wall of bullets so that enough smack a missile to make it explode?I'm sorry thats not going to take out all twelve.
IC:
Admiral Towne watched his status screen as new ships appeared on the screen...this was going to be interesting...the Charon Defense Fleet was much larger than the fleet was when they had engaged in a standoff with Valinon. Infact it was that standoff which forced the officals in the Federal Stellar Navy to modernize and expand upon the fleet. So as the Allaneans payed attention to their sensors they would register the Battleships Resolute and Columbia turning around to face the incoming warships. The Cruiser Georgetown turned and stayed several hundred kilometers head of the two Battleships. Yet those werent the only ships.
The Charon Defense Fleet began to move. It wasnt just a couple of dozen vessels either as soon a wide assortment of Frigates, Destroyers, Cruisers and Battleships began to move. More vessels appearing out of the sensor shadow afforded to them by Charon. Soon then number of ships matched that of the Allaneans..but that still wasnt it as more warships began to move from around Charon. By the time the entire fleet was marshalled for combat, it was clearly obvious that the Federal Stellar Navy was fighting on its home turf and that the Allaneans were out of there league on the edge of the solar system. However things would not get better for the OPFOR.
The Independent Battlegroups had been marshalled into the 22nd Battlegroup, and additional headache for the Allaneans the warships normally ran the major route from Mars to Charon and now they were going to join up with the Charon Defense Fleet. At only half the strength of what the Allaneans had dispatched the 22nd Battlegroup was composed of thirty to forty of the newest warships the FSN had built. They were hybrids..jointly built Menelmacari-Federal Ships. Not warships to be underestimated. What they lacked in terms of number of weapons they made up in sheer firepower and electronic warfare capabilities. Of which each vessel had begun to power up its strong ECM generators and attempted to scramble enemy radars to keep missiles from being to effective unless they were designed to burn through such static.
OOC-
I'm not going to say the number of ships outright because of all the jamming but your dealing anywhere from 200 to 250 warships.

What exactly happened here? The last transmissions from several ships of our merchant navy in the area record an unprovoked, unreasonable attacks by your craft on our vessels. Perhaps we should choose a better time and place?

The ISASF "Wasp", the first Wasp-class Ion Cannon Frigate in the Island States' fleet, watched the ships gather from behind a large comet nucleus, its extendable sensor boom passively scanning the events as they unfolded.
"Captain, we're detecting large amounts of NYNJ and Allanean vessels converging on the local area," the tactical officer reported. "Why the hell are we out here anyway?" The captain of the "Wasp" flicked her lit cigarette into the corner of the bridge.
"Continue monitoring the situation, and prepare to record any fighting onto the computer," Captain Lisa Powell ordered. "ISASF Command wants to know the exact strength of any Allanean battle fleet. The New Haven situation some time ago caused a shakeup in the ISASF, so we get to gather intel incase another standoff occurs."
OOC:
@Allanea: First, you tell me that you're quitting NS. Then, you're telling me that you're back. Please decide. I hate editing my posts time and again for no reason.
@NY&J: The ships are dead. Deal with it. The fact that the CIWS was effective against the first batch of missiles doesn't mean that you didn't kill that ship with the next batch. Allanea posted that some time has passed between when his last ship blew up, and when the Allanean fleet arrived.
@Everyone else: My ISD is still in the area. An A-wing to the superstructure won't kill it, because Weyreans aren't dumb enough to mount the CICC in the weakest part of the ship. I don't give a damn who kills what, but watch where you send your missiles or someone will become the first victim of my shiny new Point-Singularity Cannon weaponry. This -does- pertain to Allanea, too.
"Well, things are starting to look up," Alexander Storm watched the Allanean fleet reverty to normSpace.
The WSGS Bloom was back at its station some ten million kilometers from the projected engagement envelope. He really did not care who won. Allanea was known for its imperialistic policy, and so were its enemies. Neither side was really better, and both seemed to be perfectly happy to wage pointless wars against one another.
"Plot firing solutions for all ships on scanners," he commanded, just in case. Weyrean passives were good. With the opposition ships moving to their engagement stations, drive signatures were crystal-clear to scanner techs used to silent deep-space patrols. By not engaging active scanners, no-one could know that he was ready to launch a few hundred missiles at any potentially hostile craft.
OOC: Sorry, Weyr. Weird stuff has happened. I don't NORMALLY do this.
@Allanea: No problem. Still...good to have you back. As a side note -- for the right amount of money, the Weyrean Star Guard will fight for anyone.
@NY&J: Was there any reason you attacked an Allanean freighter, aside from pure spite?
