DEFENSE BUDGET INCREASE APPROVED
Capital City - With a successful election tucked under his belt, President State Worthy's defense budget proposal has passed with overwhelming support from both the Left and the Right. A press secretary from The Capitol announced that the decision was heavily influenced by the alarming global rise of 'threatening idealogies' and the 'obvious' need for increased security measures.
However, That Character, state governor and renowned former lounge singer, was among 17% of the voting group who opposed the proposal.
"Increased spending is only going to hurt the taxpayers," he reasoned at the pre-vote pre-debates, "And history has repeatedly shown that throwing money at a problem won't make it go away. I'm concerned that on a foreign note, the Nationstate's armed forces are so hopelessly outmatched by thousands of 'threatening' nations, that it won't matter even if we have full enlistment and the highest soldier pay in the world!"
"Which, of course, we don't," insists General General, General and Head of the Armed Forces. "What people like Governor Character need to know is the citizens need peace. We need protection. This is entirely a popular motion, and isn't this a democracy? Surely he and other 'representatives' can recognize that."
The new proposal calls for a "multi-percentage-point increase" in the defense budget, which will go toward improving recruitment, training and equipment for all branches of the armed forces.
