Under the earth there is hell open rp

ooc: this is open to all FKC nations and any other nation that wants...Basically I was kicking around the idea of an underground rail system, not really a subway, reaching out throughout portions of Rouge Jiggady, as a new system of transportation that does not take up development space on the land, and that can safely negotiate the more dangerous parts of RJ. The government has gotten its hands on a nice surplus of cash so they have contracted a company to get the digging underway........ and that where the rp comes in, however successful or ill-fated the tunneling and train system ends up.

This is basically going to be a character rp of the people involved in the mining process, so feel free to jump right in with one of the workers in the tunnels in whatever capacity, or on the business/government side of things, it would be neat to see the two sides of the project in the rp. I basically wanted this to be me finally getting underway with the development of RJ in the role playing world, I have been sitting back with it not really doing anything up to this point....sticking with my primary nation of Jiggady.

IC:

Just outside Century City

The deal was completed with the usual handshake and photo op, lightbulbs flashed as the two men clasped hands with smiles. A cheer rose up from the crowd of gathered dignitaries, workers, media affiliates, and business people who braved the cool and damp morning to see the groundbreaking of the long awaited rail project which was officially entitled project "Connecting Hope."

Most of the people who had come out fell into two categories, those who helped get the project off its feet and those who were waiting for it to collapse on itself. There had been much debate over the rail system in the government already delaying the project by ten months, mostly over the funding. However, when multi-billion dollar business owner, and crime boss, Ormand Rink stepped forward to offer the services of his construction company the dissenting voices were quickly silenced.

And here they stood today, after nearly two years of waiting through planning and delays, at the groundbreaking ceremony of "Connecting Hope." Ormand Rink and Chief of State Xander loosened their handshake so that each could pick up matching golden shovels specially made for the ceremony. In unison each man raised their shovels and thrust them into the ground, with smiles on their faces for the media.

Another roar of cheers from the crowd and the men were quickly rushed away to their waiting cars to take them to the VIP party back in Century City, capital of Rouge Jiggady. The crowd quickly dispersed as they went for their own vehicles to the party or respective destinations.

------

Ten miles away, they were just nearing the shift change for the night crew that had toiled away in the tunnels, already well underway. The groundbreaking today was a show entirely for the media and elite who loved such things, and being seen at such things; as was the party they would be attending. Project 'Connecting Hope' had actually got under way three weeks ago with the mainline construction around Century City, Xandtopia, and one of the far reaching outposts on the other side of the Gonad Jungle.

While construction had made little headway in what the bigwigs would consider progress, those actually involved in the construction were more than pleased with their start. Ford Harrison, the project manager from Rink Construction, was busy flying from site to site overseeing the initiation of 'connecting hope', keeping in constant contact with each site foreman. His ass was the one on the line for keeping this going as smoothly as possible, and Ford had already begun loosing sleep over it with having to keep control of the construction and business end of it. He already had to replace the foreman of the Xandtopia team, who had been drunk when he set up the positions for the dynamite blasts nearly taking out a main water pipeline.

However the work at Century City was going well, and Ford left the ceremony with the hope that this site, being the base of his operations, would lead all of the others in progress.

---------

Deep under the earth the night shift crew was finishing up and already taking shifts up the elevators to daylight. They had spent the entire night bringing the digging equipment online for the surge forward and the actuall tunneling process, and each man was ready to get out and breath fresh air again.

ooc: alright thats it for now...I'm about to pass out at the computer. More tomorrow feel free to jump right in wherever you want. This is pretty freeform so you can take some liberties with what is going on, especially with the workers underground...

Some crappy maps for reference on Rouge Jiggady and where the cities are that the construction is taking place.

In Dyelli Beybi, things had not gone unnoticed...

In the Ministry of Public works a pair of beaurocrats were discussing the odd tunneling going on across the Eastern border.

One, man peered at his notes for what seemed like the thousandth time this evening. They were suitably vague that he could figure next to nothing out from them, "I really don't understand this. They're connecting the place with underground tunnels, does that mean they're planning to extend out East to us?"

The other man shrugged, "All I know is we havn't granted them planning permission or resource consent for any such project."

"Hrrrm." the first considered this, "Well we'll need to find out exactly what's going on..."

Hyperion Corporation Headquarters

Justin Iyukoir, CEO of Hyperion Corp, of which Hyperion Transport Systems, Vrak’s leading distribution company controlling most of the rail and road traffic, slammed his flipper angrily on the stone table. Before him, lay the latest news story from Rouge Jiggady in the busines section. His aides recoiled at the sudden outburst since usually their boss was an easygoing walrus.

-How on earth were we shut out of this deal?

The Head Sales VIP, whose job was to drum up new business, replied.

-Well, er…we’ve been concentrating on the new space expansion program – which includes building up Jump city. As well, we ran a feasibility study and determined that underground railways that Rouge Jiggady was proposing was not only too expensive, but would be running a deficit for at least ten years. As well, above ground systems can be expensive enough, especially considering the new heavy lift systems we are currently exploring in our domestic market. And..
-And I’ve heard enough. Did you at least attempt to make contact with them?
-Well…er…[shifts uncomfortably]…only as far to get data for the study.
-Hmmm. Well, it may not be too late to salvage this. I want a team formed now and sent on a plane. We are experts at building railways and if they don’t go for that, we can sell them some of our finest railcars. And yes, I know there is a war going on. Dismissed.

The assembly of walruses and humans filed out. Clearly, their boss expected success. Later that day, a corporate jet was winging its way towards the main capital of Rouge Jiggady.

Still stinging from the CEO’s rebuke Hal Jaystrom, Head Sales VIP, scowled at the latest sales figures. True, Hyperion was still the number one transportation and distribution company in Vrak. But only some smooth talking managed to save his neck. Literally.

He thumbed through the glossy sales brochures that had pictures of different rail cars commonly used in Vrak. In truth, Hyperion Transport Systems did not export much due to the vast domestic market. They also switched their long-term strategy, preferring to concentrate on the emerging space hauling market. Hal couldn’t quite bring himself to that line of thinking, since he thought it was costly and too full of unknowns. Better to expand in the FKC he thought. Then again, he wasn’t the CEO.

He turned his head and looked at his pretty aide. She was in her mid twenties, long legs and even longer black hair. Her voluptuous figure stirred things that didn’t need to be stirred right now. He managed to croak out.

-Ah, Cindy? Putting the final touches on the presentation?

She gave Hal a demure smile and replied in a honey sweet voice.

-Yes boss. Almost ready.
-[I bet you are…]..Er…that’s great.
-I wonder how they can afford making an underground network spanning the whole country?
-Guess we’ll find out soon enough.

The corporate jet veered slightly to the right as the pilot transmitted his location to the Rouge Jiggady air traffic control.

The Gala reception was in the ball room of the Hilton hotel in Century City, and the elite crowd sipped wine and posed for photo ops.

An aid in a tuxedo slowly made his way through the throng of well dressed business people and government officials. Standing over six feet tall he was able to look over the heads of many of the guests to pinpoint where he was headed.

"Sir," he said as he came up to Xander who was at the moment engaged with several reporters.

"The people of Rouge Jiggady need not fear at all over the funding of this endeavor. I assure you that a surplus do to the cutting back of several other programs has resulted in enough money to get this project underway; along with the generous donations from private individuals and businesses." Xander smoothly gave his rehearsed speech as he sipped some wine, and motioned with his eyes for the aid to stand back.

"Now if you will excuse me, I have plenty of guests to speak with." Xander strode confidently away from the reporters and waited till they were well out of earshot of the always troublesome media. "What is it?"

"Sir, we just got this from the air traffic control at the airport in Century City. A private jet, that is registered to a powerful Vrakian transportation company, is en route and is schedualed to land at any time."

"What do they want?" Xander asked with tension creeping into his voice. They walked and talked together, skirting the main cluster of guests and the Chief of State tried his best to keep a smile.

"I imagine that they are a bit upset over being out of the loop on this." A new voice said. Xander and the aid turned about to see Miranda Kent, the secretary of transportation, sidle up next to them. "I already was informed of the jets imminent arrival."

The three quietly exited the room, for one of the nearby private conference rooms. Xander walked straight over to the bar and poured a glass of scotch, which he quickly downed. "Alright, I want the usual people brought in right now to get things straight before we start having to answer the questions the Vrakians will have." The aid moved over to the corner and spoke into a microphone in his sleeve, sending orders along to get as many of the central advisors together as possible.

"As you know Mr. Chief of State, this has been a roundtable discussion with every nation in the region on the feasibility of such an undertaking. And now that we have gone ahead on our own, especially with the consensus reached over it, they want answers. In fact it was the majority opinion in the council that the formation of armored rail lines would be best for protecting our rail lines in the Gonad Jungle from elves." Miranda sat down and let her hair out of its tight bun.

"Yes but we went on with it for a reason, for several reasons Miranda. That was why you voted in favor of it. And it is too late to back out now that Rink is involved in the project and what we promised him." Xanders voice began to rise and his face grew redder. He was known for quickly becoming hysterical when things were not going his way.

"Dont worry Xander, we will spin this until there is no more problem and go on with busisness." Miranda spoke calmly.

Better to go down dignified / With boughten friendship at your side / Than none at all. Provide, provide!

-What’s that boss?
-Oh, er…just a poem I was reading.

He caught himself, believing he was only thinking the words and not whispering them aloud. She really wouldn’t understand. Underneath her exterior, she was corporate through and through. What would it mean to her seeing a man contemplating his existence? The silliness and futility of it all? Ah…

The silver jet landed gracefully upon the tarmac, the gleaming Hyperion Transport Inc. logo on the tail. A cool breeze caressed the delegates as they stepped down the stairs. Hal sniffed the air, taking it all in.

Much nicer than Vrak, he idly thought. I could live here. Maybe raise some horses. Who would care?

Cindy siddled up to Hal’s left, unaware that Hal suddenly developed a boner just by detecting her perfume.

Egad! Ah…have to concentrate.

He fumbled with his briefcase and looked around, doing a good impression of a stereotypical absent-minded professor instead of the calm veteran of a thousand deals.

OOC: The poem is "Provide, Provide" by Robert Frost.
