Blown Budgets, Blown Fuses

For many within the Hammerian government's infrastructure, a Beowolf cluster was a treat for the Defense department; every firearm registration on file, every specification neatly tucked away. For the Commerce department, every tax record, every sale, every credit, and every crellar is tracked.

However, every suit's dream has become a gamer's paradise.

"It was horrible," stated a trembling security guard by the name of Otis, who wishes to remain annonymous. "I came back from the Mr. Coffee, checked the shell activity and found a remote game of Pong running! The IP didn't even match a government computer!"

When informed of this travesty, the Department of Defense secretary, Jack Elliot, was shocked. "I can't believe this. All of our classified documents, all of our crucial infrastructure components, breached by some guy on a ZX81!"

What could simply be combatted by a firewall will be fought with an entirely new supercluster. "It's about frikkin' time we throw out this old heap of computers," muttered Skip Skittle, a nearby janitor, who opted to go unnamed.

A minute chunk of the current budget surplus, which remains in the low hundred-trillions, has been allocated to purchase a 128-system Supercluster.

These systems are currently providing processing and storage for all departments of the Hammerian government. Under the hood for each system are two FHN XL8 (3200Mhz FSB, 128-bit) 8.6Ghz processors, 32 Gigabytes of 1600Mhz XDDR RAM, and 32TB of Solid-state storage.

Rumors suggest that these powerboxes may also be home to the Hammerian Echelon Network...
(Obvious hint.)
