The NS-related software and spreadsheet thread

There are many programs (for your PC or as scripts on diverse servers) and spreadsheets somewhere on the internet, which could be great for RPers if they actually knew they existed. There is no way to inform NSlers using your software/spreadsheets about updates, especially if your contribution is highly popular. That is the reason why I started this thread: Post links to your programs or spreadsheets and state the category of it. I will include it in the list here and your users can subscribe to this thread. Developers can post updates and users, who subscribed will no longer bug you with errors of older versions :)

It is a Unix extension. An archive of GNU tar was compressed by GNU Zip. For me this is easier since I am a Linux-user. WinZip can open it without problems in every version I know.

Leagion reached version 0.0.9.

Most changes are only internal, but one new feature has been introduced: variables in the custom fixtures. Some minor things were also introduced, but only to tweak scorination a bit. The URL is unchanged.

What do these do?

Election generators create results of elections based on basic data like districts population, number of parties and such. And scorinators... well, are used scorinate matches, mostly World Cup matches. What to scorinate is? To generate results/scores of matches based on rank, RP-bonus and random numbers.

BTW: Feel free to propose software not fitting into these categories!

The OSN has a very cool* system for this called GUSTO at http://osn.jink.org/. Granted, you have to join the OSN to be in it. It's more advanced than the nseconomy version as that's based off of the old GUSTO tables.

Some of the results from that spreadsheet are posted semi-regularly to the GUSTO blog, found at http://gusto.jactivism.com.

Example (http://gusto.jactivism.com/test/November042004.xml)

GUSTO calculates everything from GDP to interest rates to estimates of military power. It does a lot. ;)

I'm working on my spreadsheet. It'll take a (long) while to get finished for public use, but here's a glimpse of what it is being built off of. (I'm going to make the divisions editable, and make the interface MUCH more streamlined over the next few weeks)

To add in values, you must edit the formulas, as for the column of the M1A1 inside the counted divisions, you must change the multiplyer for the # of divisions you have.

http://www.geocities.com/anomaly149/original_calculator.xls

As I said before, I will be modifying this heavily. The divisions are actually from Teh Ninjas (love those things lol, and have purchased quite a few I think), but feel free to alter all you want. You can enter any value in for the unit numbers, but don't touch the totals areas... they will auto-compute. It is for Exel 2k3 I think.

If you have any advice whatsoever, please tell me. I'm redoing it, so the first page will be nothing but totals for everything, and you only edit the later pages, but that's a ways off
Rejistania
16-03-2005, 23:53
Nice, I'll include it after told me what it is (no Excel here) and made it a bit more userproof. Don't trust users to touch your formulas. :)

17-03-2005, 02:42
Ah. I'm color-coding the next version, and anything in red will be a no-touchy zone. Also, anything on the first page will be a no-touchy zone as well. And it will say "No Touchy anything red or anything on the first page" in big font on the first page. I'm nearly done with the land pages and am moving on to air, sea, space, and missile command soon. Logistics for each can be found in the individual section, and hopefully this will be easier to use.

Newer version of the military calculator: (my private insanity)

http://www.geocities.com/anomaly149/troops_for_NS_dudes

It's an exel document that shows you most of its information on page one, but you can edit your ground forces on the following pages. I tried to make sure it was clean, but if it's not, you are free to edit any green square. As for areas under ground troops for unattatched units, select the original row under that heading, and insert a (small, 1 row by 4 columns) set of cells to make more room if you run out. You can add more until you have all the cells you need. Remember to shift cells down though, or else you'll really mess things up visually. (I'll make another version that is easier to use in this reguard, and that allows for fleets and airwings)

A couple of Leagion-related questions:

1. How can I resume a season halfway through? I've tried reading the help page but I can't make much sense of it, and I don't fancy adjusting league tables myself - I just know I'll botch it up.

2. Can I fix it so that two teams are prevented from playing home games on the same matchday? As any policeman will tell you, it's not always a good idea to have local rivals playing at home at the same time.

okay, for the questions:
1. if you =simto a certain amount of matches, a leaguedef.resume.lgn is created, executing it resumes a season.
2. only via custom fixtures. if you have said leaguedef.resume.lgn, you can edit it's custom fixtures.

Another quick question - are there programs out there for scorinating rugby / american football matches? Or will I have to resort to some creative use of Leagion?

Sports with multiple types of scoring that produce different ammounts of points *and* are dependent on one another (tries and conversions, touchdowns and 1/2 points after) are a bugger to get to grips with.

Most people offering to score American Football games use (i.e. 'host and get to play with' a version of Madden, a practice I've always disliked.

So the quick answer is 'probably not, and good luck with that'

I was thinking something along the lines of scorinating each match twice; once for tries/touchdowns (assuming all conversions are good), once for penalties/drop goals/field goals.

Horribly complicated I know, but hey, it might work.

I did an uber-simple rugby scorinator for the Rugby World Cup that scored all 4 ways of scoring at once (Tries, Conversions, Penalties, Drop Goals) and had each with a different likelyhood of happening. Then it added up all the points scored and viola.

Tries were most likely, then Penalties, then Conversions, then Drop Goals. You obviously couldnt score more Conversions than Tries, of course. T'was uber-simple and basically it meant, RPing = Winning.
